Safety Warnings
 Read this manual carefully and completely before installing and using the TECNOWARE EVO DSP
MM RACK TOWER Uninterruptible Power Supply, which, from here after, will also be referred
to as UPS.
 The UPS must be used only by properly trained personnel. To ensure correct and safe
operations, it is necessary that operators and maintenance personnel observe the general
safety Standards as well as the specific instructions included in this manual.
 Risk of electric shock: do not remove the cover. The UPS contains internal parts which are at a
high Voltage and are potentially dangerous, capable of causing injury or death by electric
shock.
 There are no internal parts in the UPS which are user serviceable. Any repair or maintenance
work must be performed exclusively by qualified technical personnel authorized by
TECNOWARE. TECNOWARE declines any responsibility if this warning is disregarded.
 The electric installation has to be done by qualified personnel. Follow all the Safety Standards
(CEI Standards in Italy or IEEE elsewhere) for the Input/Output connections and for the right
section of Input/Output cables.
 It is compulsory to ground the UPS according to Safety Standards.
 Risk of electric shock at the Output lines when the UPS is ON.
 Risk of electric shock at the Output lines while the unit is connected to the AC utility line.
 For respect of the Safety Standards is necessary the presence of a differential circuit breaker
between UPS Output lines and the loads.
 We recommend to use a dedicate AC power line for the UPS.
 Do not obstruct ventilation slots or holes and do not rest any object on top of the UPS.
 Do not insert objects or pour liquids in the ventilation holes.
 Install the UPS indoors, in a protected, clean and moisture-free environment.
 Do not expose to the direct sun light.
 Do not keep liquids, flammable gases or corrosive substances near the UPS.

1Introduction
The UPS EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER (UPS means Uninte uptible Powe Supply) is the esult of constant
technological esea ch aimed at obtaining the best pe fo mance at the lowest cost.
EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER is an advanced ON-LINE UPS built specifically to p otect you compute f om any
i egula ities in the AC line (fo example blackouts, b ownouts, ove voltages, mic o-inte uptions), which often
cause damage to ha dwa e and softwa e.
All that is possible because EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER is a Double-Conve sion ON-LINE UPS.
Unde no mal AC line condition EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER p ovides an automatic Output Voltage egulation f om
the Rectifie and Inve te blocks and filte s out f equently occu ing elect ical distu bances (high Voltage
t ansients, spikes, inte fe ences, etc.), thus p otecting the devices connected to its outlets. Du ing a powe
failu e, EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER continues supplying adequate AC powe (with a t ue sine wave) to all
connected devices th ough its inte nal batte ies and by its DC/AC conve te (Inve te ).
EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER p otects the devices f om accidental ove load o Inve te fault by an Automatic Bypass
that di ectly connects the AC Input line with its outlets.
EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER models a e facto y-equipped with RS-232 and USB inte faces, which may be used fo
notify to a compute a powe failu e o a Low Batte y condition: this allows automatic data backup du ing an
extended blackout with the most common ope ating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc). Thanks to Inte faces,
UPS DSP MM can communicate the seve al made measu ements (Input/Output Voltage, batte ies, abso ption,
F equency, etc.), and can also be p og ammed in o de to sta t-up o shutdown automatically at fixed times.
Read this manual carefully before using the EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER ; it includes
important safety warnings and useful advices for correct use and installation.
EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER is constantly being developed and imp oved: consequently, you unit may diffe
somewhat f om the desc iption contained in this manual.
This manual includes the following models:
•EVO DSP MM 1.3 Rack Tower (1300VA)
•EVO DSP MM 2.6 Rack Tower (2600VA)
•EVO DSP MM .0 Rack Tower ( 000VA)
In this manual EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER will simply be efe ed to as UPS.
EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER models a e made f om a single unit that contains the elect onics pa ts and the
batte ies.
Howeve EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER models a e p edisposed to the connection with exte nal BATTERY BOX units in
o de to inc ease the autonomy.

3Receipt and site selection
Ca efully emove the UPS f om its packaging, and ca y out a meticulous inspection. We ecommend keeping the
o iginal packaging in a secu e place, in case you need to send the UPS fo maintenance pu poses. In case of
t anspo t damage, notify the ca ie and deale immediately.
We ecommend paying attention to the below points in o de to choose a co ect placement fo you UPS:
•The UPS is designed to ope ate in a p otected envi onment (e.g. offices). We the efo e ecommend
installing it in a place with ve y little o no humidity, dust o smoke.
•When the UPS is b ought f om a cold place to a wa me place, humidity in the ai may cause condensation
in the UPS. In this case, allow UPS to stand fo two hou s in the wa me place befo e beginning with the
installation.

•In all ci cumstances, see the “Technical Cha acte istics” chapte fo envi onmental specifications and
check that the selected a ea meets these c ite ia.
•Du ing no mal ope ation the UPS discha ges a minimal amount of heat. So it is necessa y to leave at least
10 cm of unobst ucted space all a ound the UPS in o de to keep it p ope ly ventilated.
•Do not obst uct ventilation holes.
•Do not inse t objects o pou liquids in the ventilation holes.
•Do not est any object on top of the UPS.
•Do not keep liquids, flammable gases o co osive substances nea the unit.
•Install the UPS on a p ope ly tiled floo . Avoid the installation on a floo that is not tiled flat.

.1 NORMAL Mode
The UPS typically wo ks in No mal mode: Input mains powe is available and its amplitude is within specifications.
Please efe to figu e 1.
Afte the filte has eliminated any high F equency inte fe ence p esent on the mains, the AC Input line is ectified
and conditioned in the Rectifie block (AC/DC conve sion); the continuous powe now ente s into the Inve te
block and is then econve ted into alte nated powe (DC/AC conve sion), ove coming the Automatic Bypass and
feeding the load afte an ext a filt ation. At the same time the UPS echa ges the batte ies th ough the Batte y
Cha ge block.

The No mal mode is identified by:
•The g aphic LCD panel shows the functioning du ing
No mal mode.
.2 BATTERY Mode
Du ing ope ation in No mal mode, if the UPS finds the Mains OFF condition (due to a Blackout o
Ove voltage/B ownout), it then switches into Batte y mode. In this case, the batte ies supply the equi ed Output
powe thanks to the DC/AC conve sion ca ied out by the Inve te . The UPS switches back to No mal mode a few
seconds afte AC Input powe is esto ed o Voltage comes back to inte nal specifications.

The Batte y mode is identified by:
•The g aphic LCD panel shows the functioning du ing
Batte y mode.
•An acoustic signal eve y 4 seconds.
.3 BYPASS Mode
In Bypass mode, the AC Input line is di ectly connected with the UPS outlets by an Automatic Bypass.
As indicated in figu e 1, in Bypass mode the UPS echa ges the batte ies.
Du ing No mal mode, the UPS switches automatically to Bypass mode as a consequence of accidental overload
or Inverter fault thus protecting the supplied devices.
When the UPS is wo king in No mal mode it is possible to switch the UPS by p essing SELECT + ON/MUTE button
fo at least 5 seconds, as explained into chapte 5.

The Bypass mode is identified by:
•The g aphic LCD panel shows the functioning du ing
Bypass mode.
•An acoustic signal eve y 10 seconds.
During Bypass mode, loads are fed directly from AC Input line. Therefore no protection
against AC Input line disturbances or interruptions is present.
. STAND-BY Mode
If the UPS is in Stand-by mode, it is “inactive”. In Stand-by mode the Inve te is off and the e is not Output powe
but the UPS is not completely off: indeed the UPS echa ges the batte ies egula ly and the g aphic display is ON.
If the OFF button is p essed when the UPS is in No mal mode, the UPS switches in Stand-by mode.
If the UPS is in Stand-by mode and the AC Input line is emoved f om UPS, then the UPS switches completely off.
The Stand-by mode is identified by:
•The g aphic LCD panel shows the functioning du ing
Stand-by mode.
.5 ECO Mode
It is possible to select the ECO mode to save ene gy and to inc ease the efficiency of the UPS.
The ECO mode uses the Bypass to feed the loads. The UPS will ope ate as in Bypass mode wheneve the
F equency/wavefo m/RMS value of AC Input line mains Voltage is within thei tole ance limits. If the AC Input line
Voltage goes beyond these limits, the UPS switches into no mal ope ation.
Please contact Technical Se vice fo the inst uction to enable the ECO mode; by default the ECO mode is disable.
ECO mode does not provide perfect stability in Frequency/waveform/RMS value of the
Output Voltage like in Normal mode. Thus, the use of this mode should be carefully
executed according to the level of protection required by the application.
The ECO mode is identified by:

.6 CONVERTER FREQUENCY Mode
It is possible to select the Conve te F equency mode to wo k with the Output F equency diffe ent f om the Input
F equency. Fo example it is possible to wo k with 60 Hz Input F equency and 50 Hz Output F equency o 50Hz
Input F equency and 60 Hz Output F equency.
Please contact Technical Se vice fo the inst uction to enable the Conve te F equency mode; by default
Conve te F equency mode is disable, and the Output F equency will synch onize automatically with the Input
F equency; by default the Conve te F equency mode is disable.
The Conve te F equency mode is identified by:
•The g aphic LCD panel shows the functioning du ing
Conve te F equency mode.
•The “CF” cha acte s a e ON.
5EXTERNAL DESCRIPTION
5.1 Front Panel
The f ont panel info ms the use about ope ating status, ala m conditions and measu ements. It also p ovides
access to cont ols and configu ation pa amete s.
F ont panel shown below consists of two pa ts:
1. G aphic LCD panel p ovides complete info mation about the functioning status and existing ala ms, Load and
Batte y level, Input, Output and Batte y measu ements.
2. The G aphic LCD panel is outable. Is possible to show the display in towe view o ack view. Fo mo e
details see pa ag aph “Settings”.
3. 3 buttons enables the use to tu n ON/OFF the UPS and to make selections of the functioning pa amete s.

Graphic LCD Panel Function
Battery information
Indicates the Batte y capacity by 0-25%, 26-50%, 51-75%, and 76-100%.
Indicates the Batte y is faulty o defective.
Indicates Low Batte y level and Low Batte y Voltage.
Input and Battery Voltage information
Indicates the Input Voltage o Input F equency o Batte y Voltage.

5.1.2 Buttons
Functions of the buttons a e given below:
Button Function
ON/MUTE
Turn ON the UPS: p ess and hold ON/MUTE button fo at least 3 seconds to tu n ON the UPS.
Mute the acoustic alarm: when the UPS is in Batte y mode, p ess and hold this button fo at
least 5 seconds to disable o enable the acoustic ala m. But it’s not applied to the situations
when wa nings o e o s occu .
Test Battery: p ess and hold ON/MUTE button fo at least 5 seconds to pe fo m the Batte y Test
while the UPS is in No mal mode.
SELECT
Select the measurements on the graphic display: by p essing the SELECT button it is possible
to choose the elect ical pa amete to be displayed (Input Voltage, Input F equency, Batte y
Voltage, Output Voltage, Output F equency). If the button is not p essed fo at least 10
seconds, then the default pa amete will came back on the g aphic display.
Setting mode: P ess and hold this button fo 5 seconds to ente UPS setting mode when Standby
and Bypass mode.
Down key: P ess this button to display next selection in UPS setting mode.
OFF/ENTER
Turn OFF the UPS: p ess and hold ON/MUTE button fo at least 3 seconds to tu n OFF the UPS.
By p essing this button while the UPS is in No mal mode, the UPS will go to Stand-by mode; by
p essing this button while the UPS is in Batte y mode, the UPS will switch OFF completely.
Confirm selection key: P ess this button to confi m selection in UPS setting mode.
ON/MUTE +
SELECT
Switch to Bypass mode: when the UPS is functioning in No mal Mode, p ess ON/MUTE and
SELECT buttons simultaneously fo at least 5 seconds. Then UPS will ente to Bypass mode. This
action will be ineffective when the Input voltage is out of the acceptable ange.

5.2 Rear Side

1. Computer Interface (DB9 female connector): it is the communication RS-232 po t.
2. Computer Interface (USB connector): it is the communication USB po t.
3. Telephone Protection (RJ11/RJ 5 IN/OUT connectors): to p otect and filte a phone line, an ADSL o a LAN.
. EPO (Emergency Power OFF) connector
5. Input Circuit Breaker: it goes off in Ove load o sho t-ci cuit condition; push the exte nal button of the
Ci cuit B eake to eactivate it.
6. Grounded AC Input power socket: IEC C14 (EVO DSP MM 1.3 Rack Towe ) and IEC C20 (EVO DSP MM 2.6-4.0
Rack Towe ) type to connect the UPS to the AC utility line by the included powe co d.
7. Grounded Output Receptacles: IEC C13 type to supply loads.
8. Slot for SNMP Interface (optional)
9. Battery Box Connector: emove the metal cove to access to the Batte y Box Connecto and to connect the
UPS to an exte nal Batte y Box.
10. Grounded Output Power Receptacle: IEC C19 type; Fo connecting an Output powe line to supply all the
devices to be p otected.

5.2.1 EPO (Emergency Power Off)
EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER models have the EPO (Eme gency Powe OFF) connecto on the ea side, (see figu e
5).
This permits to immediately switch the UPS Output OFF from a distance in case of emergency.
The UPS is supplied with EPO sho t-ci cuited te minals and in this case the p oduct wo ks no mally.
If you want to use an exte nal switch to tu n OFF the UPS by EPO, then emove the sho t-ci cuit f om the EPO
te minals and connect the switch to the EPO te minals as desc ibed in the figu e 5.

If the switch is CLOSED the UPS works normally; if, on the contrary, the switch becomes
OPEN then the UPS Output turns OFF immediately.
To switch the UPS Output ON again afte an EPO, it is necessa y to close again the EPO switch.
The EPO te minals a e isolated and do not need an exte nal feeding Voltage.

6Electrical Installation
The electrical installation has to be done by qualified personnel. Follow all the Safety
Standards (CEI Standards in Italy or IEEE elsewhere) for the Input/Output connections
and for the right selection of Input/Output cables.
For safety we recommend using external circuit breakers between Input mains and UPS
AC Input line and between UPS Output lines and the loads. The circuit breakers should
be qualified with leakage current protective function (leakage current < 30 mA).
For the Input/Output connections use ONLY the included power cables or cables with
the same power ratings.
TECNOWARE declines any responsibility if this warning is disregarded.
The EVO DSP MM RACK TOWER models a e made of a single unit design that contains the elect onic pa ts and
batte ies.
Before starting the installation procedure, be sure that:
1. The AC Input Voltage for the UPS has been removed.
2. The UPS is completely OFF (only if graphic LCD panel is OFF).
6.1 Installation
We advise you to follow the steps below explained:
1. Th ough the included powe cable connect the UPS Input socket to the AC line outlet (see figu e 4). It is

2. Connect the devices to be supplied to the UPS outputs, by using only the included cables. Be su e all the
devices have the main switch in OFF position.
3. Only if the e is an exte nal Batte y Box:
We suggest to use ONLY Battery Box supplied by TECNOWARE. TECNOWARE declines any
responsibilities if this rule is not followed.
Before starting whichever operation be sure that the Battery circuit breaker of Battery
Box is in “OFF” position.
3.1. Remove the metal cove (#9) on the ea side (see figu e 4) to access to the Batte y Box Connecto .
3.2. Connect the Batte y Box to the Batte y Box connecto .
3.3. Place the Batte y ci cuit b eake of Batte y Box in “ON” position.

Use ’s manual 1 UPS EVO DSP MM Rack Towe
It is compulsory to ground the UPS according to the Safety Standards.
The case of the UPS is internally connected to the ground terminal (GND) of the IN/OUT
terminals, in order to guarantee safety to the user. To guarantee safety it is necessary
to be sure that the local electric plant is supplied with GROUND (in compliance with the
Safety Standards), and that a valid connection is guaranteed between the GROUND of
the UPS and the GROUND of the local electric plant.
Any interruption of the GROUND conductor is absolutely prohibited.
Risk of electric shock at the Output lines if the UPS is ON, even when the UPS is not
connected to AC utility line.
Risk of electric shock at the Output lines while the unit is connected to the AC utility
line.
Risk of electric shock: do not remove the cover. The UPS contains internal parts which
are at a high Voltage and are potentially dangerous, capable of causing injury or death
by electric shock.
There are no internal parts in the UPS which are user serviceable. Any repair or
maintenance work must be performed exclusively by qualified technical personnel
authorized by TECNOWARE. TECNOWARE declines any responsibility if this warning is
disregarded.
Disregard for these warnings may lead to a risk of electric shock to operators.
7First Start Up
Tu ning the UPS ON is ve y easy. Neve theless we ecommend that, on Fi st Sta t Up, the following p ocedu e is
obse ved fo g eate safety.
1. Be su e all the devices connected to the UPS outputs have the main switch in OFF position.
2. Resto e the AC Input line fo the UPS; be su e that the AC utility powe is available, and that its voltage and
f equency a e within the specifications.
3. As a consequence of point 2, the UPS tu ns on the g aphic display and goes in Stand-by mode: the UPS
echa ges only the batte ies and doesn’t supply Output powe . Check the g aphic display shows the
functioning of the batte y cha ge du ing Stand-by mode.
. P ess ON/MUTE button fo at least 3 seconds: the UPS emits a b ief acoustic signal and pe fo ms a
functioning SELF-TEST. Afte some seconds the UPS sta ts to wo k in Normal Mode and the g aphic LCD
panel will show the functioning du ing No mal mode.
5. Simulate a black-out by emoving the AC Input line. The UPS sta ts wo king in Battery mode: the g aphic LCD
panel will show the functioning du ing Batte y mode. Mo eove UPS emits a b ief acoustic signal eve y 4
seconds. When Batte y level is ending the acoustic signal will be emitted eve y 1 second.
6. Resto e the AC Input line: afte few seconds the UPS tu ns back in Normal mode.
7. The UPS has passed fi st sta t up check: now tu n ON the devices (one by one) to be supplied by UPS,
checking the UPS doesn’t epo t Overload info mation on the g aphic LCD panel and all the devices a e
wo king egula ly. By g aphic display check if the Output load pe centage is less than 100%; othe wise it is
necessa y to emove pa t of the loads at the Output lines.
Befo e using the UPS no mally, leave it in No mal mode fo in o de to cha ge Batte y completely (the UPS cha ges
Batte y also in Bypass mode o in Stand-by Mode). The batte ies each the 90% of thei capacity afte about 4
hou s of echa ge.

8Functioning
8.1 Turning ON and OFF
Let’s see ca efully the consequences of the p essu e of ON/MUTE and OFF/ENTER buttons.
The UPS is in Stand-by mode (the Inve te is OFF); if the ON/MUTE button is p essed, afte few seconds the
Inve te sta ts and the UPS switches in No mal mode.
The UPS is in No mal mode (the Inve te is ON); if the OFF/ENTER button is p essed, the Inve te tu ns OFF and
the UPS switches in Stand-by mode.
To turn completely OFF the UPS please do the following steps:
 Put the UPS in Stand-by mode by pressing the OFF/ENTER button
 Disconnect the AC Input Voltage for the UPS.
The graphic LCD panel is OFF only when the UPS is completely OFF.
If UPS is used daily, it is ecommended to leave the UPS connected to the AC Input line and use the ON/MUTE and
OFF/ENTER buttons on the f ont panel to activate/deactivate the Inve te .
If the UPS has to be tu n OFF completely fo seve al days, it is ecommended to disconnect the AC Input line fo
the UPS.
If the ON/MUTE button is p essed when AC Input line is not p esent, the UPS switches ON even, and wo ks in
Batte y mode afte some seconds.
If the OFF/ENTER button is p essed when AC Input line is not p esent, then the Inve te switches OFF and
consequently the e will be no Output powe .
8.2 Low Battery and Automatic Restart
The UPS eaches the Low Battery condition wheneve , du ing wo king in Batte y mode, the batte ies each a
cha ge level allowing the connected devices to ope ate fo few minutes mo e.
The UPS wa ns ope ato s of Low Battery by lighting of the LOW BATT. icon on the g aphic LCD and by emitting an
acoustic signal eve y second.
If AC Input does not come back on within few minutes, the UPS shuts-down automatically thus p eventing the
batte ies f om discha ging excessively; the UPS stops supplying Output powe , deactivates cont ol panel indication
and goes to a waiting state. Once AC Input comes back on, the UPS restarts automatically and afte 4 seconds it
goes back to wo k in No mal mode.
Afte a complete discha ge, the UPS needs 4 hou s to echa ge completely the batte ies. The UPS echa ges
batte ies automatically if it wo ks in No mal mode, in Bypass mode o in Stand-By mode.

8.3 Load Testing
The UPS indicates the Output Load level by g aphic LCD (as desc ibed in the chapte 5).
When the Output load is highe then nominal value the UPS wa ns of Overload condition by g aphic LCD and by
acoustic ala m as desc ibed in the “Wa ning Table” and in the “T oubleshooting” chapte .
The UPS wa ns of an Ove load less than 110% by acoustic ala m.
An Ove load between 110% and 130% is accepted fo about 30 seconds and afte UPS switches automatically to the
Bypass mode.
The UPS switches immediately to the Bypass mode if the Ove load is highe than than 130%.
Once the equested powe is back within ange, the UPS switches automatically to the No mal mode.
Make sure that the UPS never indicates Overload condition.
Do not connect a load greater than rated value to the UPS (see POWER specifications in
the chapter “Technical Characteristics”), as this may damage the unit. In this case the
warranty is void.
8. Manual Static Bypass
Du ing No mal mode functioning it is possible to switch the UPS in Bypass mode, by p essing at the same time
ON/MUTE and SELECT buttons at least 5 seconds, as explained into chapte 5.
The Bypass mode, named also Manual Static Bypass, is useful while pe fo ming maintenance o se vice on the
UPS.
Maintenance and service may only be performed by authorized technical personnel.
During Static Bypass, loads are fed directly from Bypass mains. Therefore no protection
against mains disturbances or interruptions is present.
