User’s Manual - English
Safety Warnings
Read this manual carefully and completely before installing and using the TECNOWARE EVO DSP PLUS MM
Uninterruptible Power Supply, which, from here after, will also be referred to as UPS.
This manual should be kept close to the UPS and read before the UPS is installed and used.
The UPS must be used only by properly trained personnel. To ensure correct and safe operations, it is
necessary that operators and maintenance personnel observe the general safety Standards as well as the
specific instructions included in this manual.
Risk of electric shock: do not remove the cover. The UPS contains internal parts which are at a high
Voltage and are potentially dangerous, capable of causing injury or death by electric shock.
The electric installation has to be done by qualified personnel. Follow all the Safety Standards (CE
Standards in taly or EEE elsewhere) for the nput/Output connections and for the right section of
nput/Output cables.
There are no internal parts in the UPS which are user serviceable. Any repair or maintenance work must
be performed exclusively by qualified technical personnel authorized by TECNOWARE. TECNOWARE
declines any responsibility if this warning is disregarded.
Warning to the technical personnel authorized for Service: since internal components are connected to
the batteries, they will remain powered, and therefore dangerous, even after the UPS has been
disconnected from AC power mains. Before any repair or maintenance work, disconnect the batteries
from UPS, by removing the positive cable (red colour) from the first battery of the battery pack.
CAUT ON - H GH BATTERY VOLTAGE AND R SK OF ELECTR C SHOCK - the battery pack nominal voltage is
192 Vdc (there are 16 batteries series-connected inside the UPS).
t is compulsory to ground the UPS according to Safety Standards.
Risk of electric shock at the Output lines when the UPS is ON.
Risk of electric shock at the Output lines while the unit is connected to the AC utility line.
We recommend to use a dedicate AC nput/Output power line for the UPS.
Do not obstruct ventilation slots or holes and do not rest any object on top of the UPS.
Do not insert objects or pour liquids in the ventilation holes.
nstall the UPS indoors, in a protected, clean and moisture-free environment.
Do not expose to the direct sun light.
Do not keep liquids, flammable gases or corrosive substances near the UPS.

1ntroduction
UPS EVO DSP PLUS MM (UPS me ns Uninterruptible Power Supply) is the result of const nt technologic l rese rch
imed t obt ining the best perform nce t the lowest cost.
UPS EVO DSP PLUS MM is n dv nced ON-LINE UPS built specific lly to protect your computer from ny
irregul rities in the AC line (for ex mple bl ckouts, brownouts, over volt ges, micro-interruptions) which often
c use d m ge to h rdw re nd softw re.
All th t is possible bec use UPS EVO DSP PLUS MM is Double-Conversion ON-LINE UPS.
Under norm l AC line condition UPS EVO DSP PLUS MM provides n utom tic Output Volt ge regul tion from the
Rectifier nd Inverter blocks nd filters out frequently occurring electric l disturb nces (high Volt ge tr nsients,
spikes, interferences, etc.), thus protecting the devices connected to its outlets. During power f ilure, UPS EVO
DSP continues supplying dequ te AC power (with true sine w ve) to ll connected devices through its intern l
b tteries nd by its DC/AC converter (Inverter).
UPS EVO DSP PLUS MM protects the devices from ccident l overlo d or Inverter f ult by n Autom tic Byp ss th t
directly connects the AC Input line with its outlets.
The EVO DSP PLUS MM models re f ctory-equipped with RS-232 nd USB interf ces, which m y be used for notify
to computer power f ilure or Low B ttery condition: this llows utom tic d t b ckup during n extended
bl ckout with the most common oper ting systems (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.). Th nks to Interf ces, UPS DSP MM
c n communic te the sever l m de me surements (Input/Output Volt ge, b tteries, bsorption, Frequency, etc.),
nd c n lso be progr mmed in order to st rt-up or shutdown utom tic lly t fixed times.
This manual is a guide that enables you to correctly install and use your UPS. This
manual includes important SAFETY instructions for the operator, for the UPS correct
installation, and gives useful advice on the product and battery maintenance. For any
type of problem, please refer to this manual before calling the customer service.
EVO DSP PLUS MM is const ntly being developed nd improved: consequently, your unit m y differ somewh t from
the description cont ined in this m nu l.
This m nu l includes the following models:
•EVO DSP PLUS MM 8.0 (8 KVA)
•EVO DSP PLUS MM 10.0 (10 KVA)
•EVO DSP PLUS MM 12.0 (12 KVA)
In this m nu l EVO DSP PLUS MM will simply be referred to s UPS.
EVO DSP PLUS MM 8.0, EVO DSP PLUS MM 10.0, EVO DSP PLUS MM 12.0 models re m de from single unit th t
cont ins the electronics p rts nd the b tteries.
However EVO DSP PLUS MM models re predisposed to the connection with extern l BATTERY BOX units in order to
incre se the utonomy.

3Receipt and site selection
C refully remove the UPS from its p ck ging, nd c rry out meticulous inspection. We recommend keeping the
origin l p ck ging in secure pl ce, in c se you need to send the UPS for m inten nce purposes. In c se of
tr nsport d m ge, notify the c rrier nd de ler immedi tely.
We recommend p ying ttention to the below points in order to choose correct pl cement for your UPS:
•The UPS is designed to oper te in protected environment (e.g. offices). We therefore recommend
inst lling it in pl ce with very little or no humidity, dust or smoke.
•When the UPS is brought from cold pl ce to w rmer pl ce, humidity in the ir m y c use condens tion
in the UPS. In this c se, llow UPS to st nd for two hours in the w rmer pl ce before beginning with the
inst ll tion.

10 cm of unobstructed sp ce ll round the UPS in order to keep it properly ventil ted.
•Do not obstruct ventil tion holes.
•Do not insert objects or pour liquids in the ventil tion holes.
•Do not rest ny object on top of the UPS.

4.1 NORMAL Mode
The UPS typic lly works in Norm l mode: Input m ins power is v il ble nd its mplitude is within specific tions.
Ple se refer to figure 1.
After the filter h s elimin ted ny high Frequency interference present on the m ins, the AC Input line is rectified
nd conditioned in the Rectifier block (AC/DC conversion); the continuous power now enters into the Inverter
block nd is then reconverted into ltern ted power (DC/AC conversion), overcoming the Autom tic Byp ss nd
feeding the lo d fter n extr filtr tion. At the s me time the UPS rech rges the b tteries through the B ttery
Ch rger block.
Ple se refer to figure 2, which describe the UPS front p nel.
The Norm l mode is identified by:
•Line led is ON.
•The gr phic LCD p nel shows the p th of energy flow
during Norm l mode.
4.2 BATTERY Mode
During oper tion in Norm l mode, if the UPS finds the M ins OFF condition (due to Bl ckout or
Overvolt ge/Brownout), it then switches into B ttery mode. In this c se, the b tteries supply the required Output
power th nks to the DC/AC conversion c rried out by the Inverter. The UPS switches b ck to Norm l mode few
seconds fter AC Input power is restored or Volt ge comes b ck to intern l specific tions.

The B ttery mode is identified by:
•Battery led is ON.
•The gr phic LCD p nel shows the p th of energy flow
during B ttery mode.
•An coustic sign l every 4 seconds.
4.3 BYPASS Mode
In Byp ss mode, the AC Input line is directly connected with the UPS outlets by n Autom tic Byp ss.
As indic ted in figure 1, in Byp ss mode the UPS rech rges the b tteries.
If you connect the AC Input line to the UPS nd the Input line bre ker on the re r is “ON”, the UPS will go to
Byp ss mode.
The Byp ss mode is n idle mode for the UPS: then by pressing ON button, the UPS turns ON completely,
ctiv ting the Inverter block.
When the UPS works in Byp ss mode it c n be considered s “not ctive”, since the Inverter block is not ctive.
The UPS is considered “ ctive” when the Inverter block is ON (in Norm l mode nd in B ttery mode).
Furthermore the UPS switches automatically to Bypass mode as a consequence of accidental overload or
nverter fault thus protecting the supplied devices.

The Byp ss mode is identified by:
•Bypass led is ON.
•The gr phic LCD p nel shows the p th of energy flow
during Byp ss mode.
•An coustic sign l every 2 minutes.
During Bypass mode, loads are fed directly from AC nput line. Therefore no protection
against AC nput line disturbances or interruptions is present.
4.4 CONVERTER FREQUENCY Mode
It is possible to select the Converter Frequency mode to work with the Output Frequency different from the Input
Frequency. For ex mple it is possible to work with 60 Hz Input Frequency nd 50 Hz Output Frequency or 50Hz
Input Frequency nd 60 Hz Output Frequency.

Frequency.
The Converter Frequency mode is identified by:
•Line led is on.

during Byp ss mode.
•The “CF” ch r cters re ON.

5.1 Front Panel
The front p nel informs the user bout oper ting st tus, l rm conditions nd me surements. It lso provides
ccess to controls nd configur tion p r meters.
Front p nel shown below consists of three p rts:
1. Gr phic LCD p nel provides complete inform tion bout the energy flow p th nd existing l rms, Lo d nd
B ttery level, Input, Output nd B ttery me surements.
2. 4 LED’s when illumin ted indic te UPS st tus.
3. 4 buttons en bles the user to turn ON/OFF the UPS nd to m ke selections of the functioning p r meters.

5.1.2 Buttons
Functions of the buttons re given below:

OFF Turn OFF: press nd hold the button more th n 0.5 sec to turn the UPS OFF.
TEST B ttery Test: press nd hold the button more th n 0.5 sec to test the B ttery while in Norm l
mode.
MUTE Mute the l rm: press nd hold the button more th n 0.5 sec to mute the buzzer. If you press it
g in fter the buzzer is muted, the buzzer will beep g in.

5.2.2 EPO (Emergency Power Off)
EVO DSP PLUS MM models h ve the EPO (Emergency Power OFF) connector on the re r side, (see figure 6).
This permits to immediately switch the UPS Output OFF from a distance in case of emergency.
The UPS is supplied with EPO short-circuited termin ls nd in this c se the product works norm lly.
If you w nt to use n extern l switch to turn OFF the UPS by EPO, then remove the short-circuit from the EPO
termin ls nd connect the switch to the EPO termin ls s described in the figure 6.

f the switch is CLOSED the UPS works normally; if, on the contrary, the switch becomes
OPEN then the UPS Output turns OFF immediately.

To switch the UPS Output ON g in fter n EPO, it is necess ry to close g in the EPO switch.
The EPO terminals do not need an external feeding Voltage and are isolated from the dangerous voltages that
are present inside the UPS.
6Electrical nstallation
The electrical installation has to be done by qualified personnel. Follow all the Safety
Standards (CE Standards in taly or EEE elsewhere) for the nput/Output connections
and for the right selection of nput/Output cables.
We recommend to use dedicate AC nput/Output power lines for the UPS.
For safety we recommend using external circuit breakers between nput mains and UPS
AC nput line and between UPS Output lines and the loads. The circuit breakers should
be qualified with leakage current protective function (leakage current < 30 mA).
The EVO DSP PLUS MM models re m de of single unit design th t cont ins the electronic p rts nd b tteries.
Before starting the installation procedure, be sure that:
1. The nput circuit breaker on the rear panel is “OFF” (see figure 4).
2. The AC nput Voltage for the UPS has been removed.
3. The UPS is completely OFF (only if graphic LCD panel is OFF).

The cables for EVO DSP PLUS MM 8.0 should be able to withstand until 40A current. t is
recommended to use 4 mm2 or thicker wire for safety and efficiency.
The cables for EVO DSP PLUS MM 10.0 and 12.0 should be able to withstand until 63A
current. t is recommended to use 6 mm2 or thicker wire for safety and efficiency.
We recommend using only flexible TR -RATED cables. Otherwise if you use rigid cables,
it will be difficult to move the UPS from initial positioning.
We recommend to use dedicate AC nput/Output power Lines for the UPS.
6.1 nstallation
Connect the GROUND wire first when making wire connection. Disconnect the GROUND
wire last when making wire disconnection.
Make sure that the wires are connected tightly to the terminals.
We dvise you to follow the steps below expl ined:
1. Remove the metallic panel that covers the nput/Output terminals, see figure 4. The termin ls re shown in
figure 5.
2. Connect the NPUT line (L NE, NEUTRAL and GROUND), p ying ttention to the right pol rity, in ccord nce
with figure 5, s expl ined below:
Connect INPUT GROUND wire to the GROUND termin l (#3).
Connect INPUT LINE wire to the INPUT LINE termin l (#4).
Connect INPUT NEUTRAL wire to the INPUT NEUTRAL termin l (#5).
3. Connect the OUTPUT line (L NE, NEUTRAL and GROUND) s follow:
Connect OUTPUT GROUND wire to the GROUND termin l (#3).
Connect OUTPUT LINE wire to the OUTPUT LINE termin l (#1).
Connect OUTPUT NEUTRAL wire to the OUTPUT NEUTRAL termin l (#2).
4. Re ssemble the met llic p nel th t gives ccess to the UPS termin ls.
The instructions below describe the operations to correctly connect the UPS to a Battery
Box supplied by Tecnoware.
We suggest to use ONLY Battery Box supplied by TECNOWARE. TECNOWARE declines any
responsibilities if this rule is not followed.
Before starting whichever operation be sure that the Battery Box circuit breaker is
“OFF”.

5. Proceed with the connection of the B ttery Box through the following oper tions:
Remove the met llic cover for B ttery connector on the UPS re r side (# 1, figure 4)
Connect the B ttery connector of UPS to the B ttery connector of B ttery Box by the included B ttery
c ble.
Screw the GROUND termin l of B ttery c ble to the c se of UPS by using screw of met llic cover.
Screw the GROUND termin l of B ttery c ble to the c se of B ttery Box.
Connect the AC Input power socket of the B ttery Box to n AC utility line for rech rging b tteries.
CAUT ON: H GH BATTERY VOLTAGE AND R SK OF ELECTR C SHOCK - the battery pack
nominal voltage is 192 Vdc (there are 16 batteries series-connected inside the UPS.
Remove the metallic cover for Battery connector (#1, figure 4) ONLY if there is an
external Battery Box.
6. Restore the AC Input m ins Volt ge to the UPS.
t is compulsory to ground the UPS according to the Safety Standards.
The case of the UPS is internally connected to the ground terminal (GND) of the N/OUT
terminals, in order to guarantee safety to the user. To guarantee safety it is necessary
to be sure that the local electric plant is supplied with GROUND (in compliance with the
Safety Standards), and that a valid connection is guaranteed between the GROUND of
the UPS and the GROUND of the local electric plant.
Any interruption of the GROUND conductor is absolutely prohibited.
We recommend to use dedicate AC nput/Output power Lines for the UPS.
Risk of electric shock at the Output lines if the UPS is ON, even when the UPS is not
connected to AC utility line.
Risk of electric shock at the Output lines while the unit is connected to the AC utility
line.
Risk of electric shock: do not remove the cover. The UPS contains internal parts which
are at a high Voltage and are potentially dangerous, capable of causing injury or death
by electric shock.
There are no internal parts in the UPS which are user serviceable. Any repair or
maintenance work must be performed exclusively by qualified technical personnel
authorized by TECNOWARE. TECNOWARE declines any responsibility if this warning is
disregarded.
Disregard for these warnings may lead to a risk of electric shock to operators.
