Quick Start Guide
1. Introduction
THOMSON TWG850 is a residential gateway which will give you broadband Internet access, telephone connection
and wireless networking all in one unit.
This residential gateway can connect to cable systems using the DOCSIS or EuroDOCSIS standards (please
check with your cable provider for compliance), allowing broadband Internet access.
The THOMSON TWG850 has an 802.11b/g access point that gives you wireless connection to the Internet. It has a
USB interface and also a high performance Ethernet port which further expands the Local Area Network (LAN)
capabilities.
If you have subscribed to phone services from your cable operator then you will be able to place normal phone
calls using your analogue phone and/or fax machine. The THOMSON TWG850 provides two RJ-11 connectors for
your phone or home phone system.
This residential gateway offers Parental Control and Firewall for additional protection and security.

3. Connecting the Residential Voice Gateway to Your Computer
Installation Procedure for Ethernet Interface
Follow the steps below for proper installation:
1. Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the CABLE connection in the wall, and the other end to the CABLE
jack on the TWG850.
Note: To speed up the registration process of cable modem, the coaxial cable should be connected to the
modem before connecting the power cable.
2. Connect the plug from the AC power supply into the POWER AC ADAPTER jack on the TWG850, and plug
the power supply into anAC outlet.
Note: Use only the power supply that accompanied this unit. Using other adapters may damage the unit.
3. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of your computer, and the other end
to the ETHERNET port on the TWG850.
4. The TWG850 will look for the proper cable modem signal in the Cable Television network and process the
initial registration. The voice gateway is ready for data transfer after the LED “Cable Link” is lit solid green.
Note: The REBOOT button at the rear panel is for maintenance purposes only. You don’t need to use it.

Installation Procedure for USB Interface
Follow the steps below for proper installation:
1. Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the CABLE connection in the wall, and the other end to the CABLE
jack on the TWG850.
Note: To speed up the registration process of cable modem, the coaxial cable should be connected to the
modem before connecting the power cable.
2. Connect the plug from the AC power supply into the POWER AC ADAPTER jack on the TWG850, and plug
the power supply into a power outlet.
Note: Use only the power supply that accompanied this unit. Using other adapters may damage the unit.
3. Connect the USB cable to the USB connector on the voice gateway.
4. The TWG850 will look for the proper cable modem signal in the Cable Television network and process the
initial registration. The voice gateway is ready for data transfer after the LED “Cable Link” is lit solid green.
Note: The REBOOT button at the rear panel is for maintenance purposes only. You don’t need to use it.

4. USB Driver Installation
For Windows 98SE/Me
1. Wait until the voice gateway is running in the operational state (registration O.K.). Plug the USB cable into your PC USB port.
You will see the next page. Click the “Next” button.
2. Select Search for the best drivers for your device and click the Next button.
3. Check Specify a location and browse CD-ROM. Click the Next button.
4. Select The updated driver... and click the Next button (Click back if Windows finds and proposes the USB.INF driver)
5. Click the Next button.
6. This completes the installation. Click the Finish button.
7. The system will ask you to restart your computer. Click Yes to complete the installation.
For Windows 2000/XP
1. Wait until the voice gateway is running in the operational state (registration O.K.). Plug the USB cable into your PC USB port.
2. You will see a popup window appear. Click the Next button.
3. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device and click the Next button.
4. Insert the driver CD into CD-ROM. Select “CD-ROM drive” and click the Next button.
5. Click the Next button.
6. This completes the installation. Click the Finish button.
