Note: 1. Serious injury means loss of sight, injury, burns (high temperature, low temperature), electrical

1. Checking the Warning Labels on the Main Unit
Make sure warning markings are attached on the main unit.
If any of them are missing or the wording is illegible, contact Toshiba's Service Department.

Be sure to ground the equipment.
Operation without grounding may cause
accidental fire or shock.

Turn off power removing or connecting any
modules, boards, or devices.
Otherwise, it can cause electrical shock, or
machine damage.

Touch a grounded metal part to discharge the
static electricity on your body before touching
the equipment.

Turn off power of the equipment before
replacing the power fuse or warning fuse.
Otherwise, it can cause electrical shock or fire.

etc.) in User's manual.

like to be broken by static electricity, resulting

cut off or cause overheat.

Limitation of Applications
The equipment has been designed and manufactured for use in an industrial environment.
However, the equipment is not intended to be used for systems which can endanger human life
(Note 1).
Consult Toshiba if you intend to use the equipment for a special application which involves human
life and has great influence on the maintenance of the public function (Note 2). This is why such
application requires special care on the operation, maintenance, and control of the system (Note 3).
(Note 1) The systems which can endanger human life are life maintenance systems, equipment
installed in the surgery, and other medical equipment.
(Note 2) The systems which involve human life and have great influence on the maintenance of the
public function mean the main control system of a nuclear power plant, safety and
protection system of a nuclear power facility, transport operation and control systems for
mass transportation, control systems of aviation and space systems, and other systems
and subsystems where safety is critical.
(Note 3) "Special care" means to build a safety system (foolproof design, fail safe design,
redundancy design, etc.) in full consultation with Toshiba's engineers.

Preface
The Toshiba Integrated Controller V series is a new integrated control system
suitable for the age of open and light-sizing. Based on the control and computer
technologies long accumulated, it implements an easy-to-use open system by
applying a standard multi-vendor network and simplified engineering package
software.
This manual describes the handling requirements, functions, and troubleshooting of
the V series model 3000 loop controller (L3 controller).
Be sure to read "Safety Precautions" before use, to ensure correct and safe
operation.
Note that the expenses for repair/replacement of worn or consumed products will be
charged even if request for the repair/replacement is made within the product
guarantee period.

Be Sure to Observe the Following
Observe the following to ensure the safety of the operator in using the equipment and to
keep it in normal operating condition.
1. Carefully read the Operation Manual before use.
2. Avoid installing or keeping the equipment at any of the places or in the environment
mentioned below.
(1) Very dusty place
(2) Place where corrosive gases (SO2, H2S, etc.) are generated
(3) Place where the product may be exposed to vibration or shock
(4) Environment of low or high temperature deviating from the conditions for instal-
lation specified herein.
(5) Very humid place
3. If the ambient temperature or the internal temperature of the equipment has arisen
too high, or if the equipment has developed a fault, stop using it, switch power off,
and contact the nearest Toshiba service station.
4. Do not open the case of the equipment while it is in operation except when setting
the switches.
5. Do not attempt to modify the equipment.
6. Take care not to drop the EN7 module during transit.

Chapter 1 Overview of
Loop Controller L3
The loop controller L3 is a Toshiba Integrated Controller V series control station which
uses Ethernet control LAN. The L3 controller is composed of an L3 CPU module
(L3PU11/L3PU21), an Ethernet module (EN7 module) and various IF modules (all of
which constitute a main unit or basic unit), and I/O modules. The L3 CPU module has a
capacity for 512K steps of program and is capable of executing up to 256 loops of PID,
sequence and batch controls. With the serial bus duplexed (for standard specification)
for redundancy and the main unit adaptable to duplex configuration, the L3 controller is a
highly reliable control station. An object-oriented tool in compliance with the IEC61131-3
is available for control-function engineering, enabling efficient development of application
programs using the Ladder Diagram (LD), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and
Sequential Function Chart (SFC).

1.1 L3 System Configuration
The L3 controller is composed of a main unit and intelligent PI/O and G3 I/O modules
which are connected via serial bus and G3 I/O bus, respectively, with the main unit. The
main unit comprises a power supply module, an L3 CPU module, an EN7 module for
connection with an Ethernet control LAN, and other IF modules.
The following system configuration is possible for the L3 controller.
•Up to three CPU modules (S/L/C) are installable in the main unit, to implement a multi-
controller.
•A maximum of 16 L3 controllers and a maximum of eight control monitor stations
OIS1200 can be connected to a system via Ethernet control LAN (10BASE5/
10BASE2), which can be constructed for duplex configuration.
•The L3 controller communicates process information with each PI/O module via
duplex serial bus (standard) and a communication module. For the standard
specification, one line is connected to the serial bus. A maximum of four lines can be
connected to the serial bus. Each serial bus can accommodate up to 15
communication modules.
•As for G3 I/O modules, one basic base unit and a maximum of 28 expansion units (a
maximum of seven expansion units/line x 4 lines can be connected.
•The L3 controller can be used in single configuration, or in stand by duplex
configuration.

1.2 Configuration of Main Unit
There are two types of basic base units for the L3 controller: one for single configuration
and the other for duplex configuration.
The L3 main unit (basic unit) comprises an L3 CPU module which is the core component
of the L3 controller, an EN7 module for connection to the Ethernet, various other IF
modules, and a power supply module which supplies power to each of these modules.
Each module is installed in each slot of the basic base unit.
1.2.1 Single Configuration
The basic base unit is available in four types which differ in the number of slots for
connection with station bus: 2-slot, 4-slot, 6-slot and 8-slot types. The power supply
module is installed in slot [PS], the L3 CPU module, EN7 module, and IF modules in the
station-bus-connectable slots ([S1] through [S*]: * represents number 1, 3, 5 or 7), and
G3 I/O modules in slots for connection with direct bus ([S#] through [S10]: # represents
number 2, 4, 6 or 8).
Figure 1-3 shows an example of basic unit in single configuration (BU748).

Figure 1-4 shows an example of basic unit in duplex configuration (BU748) (implemented
on two single-configuration basic base units).

For the duplex-configuration basic unit on two single-configuration basic base units,
install a duplexing interface module in slot [S0].
Figure 1-5 shows another example of basic unit in duplex configuration (BU784).

For this duplex configuration as well, install a duplexing interface module in slot [S0] of
each of the primary and secondary basic base units.

1.3 Connection with Intelligent PI/O System
The L3 controller can be connected with an intelligent PI/O system via serial bus.
Connection with an intelligent PI/O system requires the following components, for system
construction:
•Communication base unit (USCB1)
•Communication module (SBIF1/SBIF2)
•Serial bus (ZCS004A***1)
•Terminal unit (UT***)
•I/O bus (ZCS005A***1)
•Terminal resistor (FSTM1)
•Serial bus terminator (UTMN3)
•Relay cable (ZCS010A***1)
•Relay terminal unit (4TBBEMB007F31S)
For connection of the main unit to an intelligent PI/O system, connect relay cable with
serial bus via the relay terminal unit. Standard serial bus is duplexed (lines A and B). A
maximum of 15 communication base units can be connected to each line of this serial
bus, and a maximum of 14 terminal units to I/O bus. Communication modules can also
be connected for duplex configuration. For duplex configuration, install two
communication modules in the communication base unit. For single configuration, install
one communication module on the left side (P).
Be sure to terminate the serial bus with a terminal resistor, and the I/O bus with a serial
bus terminator.
IMPORTANT
•Communication module (SBIF1) and high-speed communication module (SBIF2) cannot be
connected to the same I/O bus (the same communication base unit).
