Hardware
To use this machine with the Network Interface Card installed, the following hardware and
software are required.
Be sure to use a right cable and network device for your network interface card.
•Token Ring
STP cable with the RJ-45 connector for Token Ring, or Token Ring cable with the D-Sub 9-pin
connector.
•10BASE-2
10BASE-2 coaxial cable and BNC connector.
•10BASE-T
UTP cable with the Category 3 or 5 RJ-45 connector.
•100BASE-TX
STP cable with the Category 5 RJ-45 connector.
This machine can be used in the following network requirements:
•IPX/SPX Network (NetWare)
Server : Novell NetWare 3. x, 4. x, 5. x.
Either PCONSOLE included with NetWare or NetWare
Administrator must be available.

Network Requirements
To use the network utility included with this machine, the following requirements must be met.

Connect this machine to the network. Connection procedures differ with the network interface
card (optional).
Insert the 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX
cable in the connector.
Connecting to the Network
Important
Before connecting the cable, be sure that the machine power is OFF.

Assign the IP address, the Subnet Mask, and the Gateway address of this machine on the
control panel. This address must be assigned when using the TCP/IP protocol or TopAccess.
Note:
Assign the Gateway address when the printer is used in network through a router. Enter
the router’s address for the Gateway address.
Press the PRINTER/NETWORK button
on the control panel.
Press the ON/OFF button.
The SETTING and UTILITY tabs
appear.
The message display panel changes
to showing the printer screen.

Press the SETTING tab.
Enter the IP address to be assigned.
Press the IP Address button.
•Press the Subnet Mask and Gateway buttons
to assign the Subnet Mask and Gateway
Address if necessary.
•Enter with the numeric keys (0 to 9).
•Move the cursor using the ←or → button.
•To halt assigning the IP address, press the
CANCEL button.
•You cannot enter any number exceeding 255.
•The following address cannot be assigned.
IP Address 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255 and 0.0.0.0
Press the SET button.
The IP address has been assigned
and the display returns to showing
the Setting screen.
Note:
After assigning the IP address, turn off the power of this machine and then on or reset
the printer by referring to the section on Resetting the Printer. The IP address assigned
becomes valid after the machine is restarted.

Set them up in the print server mode. They cannot be used in the remote printer mode.
This example of operation is performed under the following conditions. Check the conditions of
the environment you are using.

•NetWare server name : NWSRV (They must correspond with the names to be set for
MAP or TopAccess.)

Name the following as desired.
•Print queue name : TOS_QUE
•Printer name : TOS_PRN
•Print server name : TOS_SRV (They must correspond with the names to be set for
MAP or TopAccess.)

When using with NetWare 3.x this machine is set up by using PCONSOLE.

Type “PCONSOLE” and press the Enter key.
Log in for the NetWare server with Supervisor.
Choose Change Current File Server from the Available Options menu.
A list of file servers is displayed.
Select the file server on which you want to install the print server and press the
Enter key.
Log in to the file server.
Work on the workstation.
•If you don’t have to change the File Server, skip to “Creating a print queue.”
Press the Esc key to return to the Available Options menu.
•If the name of the file server you want is not displayed, press the Insert key to get a list of file servers.
Print Queues appears.
