Electrical Safety
Before you operate the printer, arefully read the following instru tions. To ensure the ontinued safe
operation of the printer, refer to these instru tions.
Xerox®printer and supplies are designed and tested to meet stri t safety requirements. These in lude
safety agen y evaluation and ertifi ation, and omplian e with ele tromagneti regulations and
established environmental standards.
The safety and environment testing and performan e of this produ t have been verified using Xerox®
materials only.
WARNING: Unauthorized alterations, whi h an in lude the addition of new fun tions or
onne tion of external devi es, an affe t the produ t ertifi ation. For details, onta t your
Xerox®representative.
GGeenneerraall GGuuii eelliinneess
WARNING:
• Do not push obje ts into slots or openings on the printer. Tou hing a voltage point or
shorting out a part ould result in fire or ele tri sho k.
• Do not remove the overs or guards that are fastened with s rews unless you install
optional equipment and are instru ted to do so. Power off the printer when you perform
these installations. Dis onne t the power ord to remove the overs and guards to install
optional equipment. Ex ept for user-installable options, there are no parts that you an
maintain or servi e behind these overs.
The following are hazards to your safety:
• The power ord is damaged or frayed.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• The printer emits smoke, or the surfa e is unusually hot.
• The printer emits unusual noise or odors.
• The printer auses a ir uit breaker, fuse, or other safety devi e to a tivate.
If any of these onditions o ur, do the following:
1. Power off the printer immediately.
2. Dis onne t the power ord from the ele tri al outlet.
3. Call an authorized servi e representative.

Use the power ord supplied with your printer.
• Plug the power ord dire tly into a properly grounded ele tri al outlet. Ensure that ea h end of the
ord is onne ted se urely. If you do not know if an outlet is grounded, ask an ele tri ian to he k
the outlet.

WARNING: To avoid risk of fire or ele tri al sho k, do not use extension ords, power
strips, or power plugs for more than 90 days. When a permanent outlet re epta le
annot be installed, use only one fa tory-assembled extension ord of the appropriate
gauge for ea h printer or multifun tion printer. Always adhere to national and lo al
building, fire, and ele tri al odes regarding length of ord, ondu tor size, grounding,
and prote tion.
• Do not use a ground adapter plug to onne t the printer to an ele tri al outlet that does not have
a ground onne tion terminal.
• Verify that the printer is plugged into an outlet that provides the orre t voltage and power. If
ne essary, review the ele tri al spe ifi ation of the printer with an ele tri ian.
• Do not pla e the printer in an area where people an step on the power ord.
• Do not pla e obje ts on the power ord.
• Do not plug or unplug the power ord while the power swit h is in the On position.
• If the power ord be omes frayed or worn, repla e it.
• To avoid an ele tri al sho k and damage to the ord, grasp the plug when you unplug the power
ord.
The power ord is atta hed to the printer as a plug-in devi e on the ba k of the printer. If it is
ne essary to dis onne t all ele tri al power from the printer, dis onne t the power ord from the
ele tri al outlet.
EEmmeerrggeennccyy PPoowweerr OOffff
If any of the following onditions o ur, power off the printer immediately and dis onne t the power
ord from the ele tri al outlet. To orre t these problems:
• The equipment emits unusual odors or makes unusual noises.
• The power able is damaged or frayed.
• A wall panel ir uit breaker, fuse, or other safety devi e has been tripped.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• Any part of the printer is damaged.
Conta t an authorized Xerox servi e representative.
EElleeccttrriiccaall SSuuppppllyy
The ele tri al supply for the devi e meets the requirements stated on the data plate on the rear of
the devi e. If you are not sure that your ele tri al supply meets the requirements, onsult your lo al
ele tri ity provider or a li ensed ele tri ian.
WARNING: The devi e onne ts to a grounded ele tri al ir uit. The devi e is supplied with a
grounded ele tri al plug that fits into a grounded ele tri al outlet. The power ord plug only
fits into a grounded ele tri al outlet. The power ord design is a safety feature. If you are
unable to insert the power ord plug into your ele tri al outlet, onsult your lo al ele tri ity
provider or a li ensed ele tri ian. Always onne t the devi e to a properly grounded ele tri al
outlet.

Operational Safety
The printer and supplies are designed and tested to meet stri t safety requirements. These in lude
safety agen y examination, approval, and omplian e with established environmental standards.
Your attention to the following safety guidelines helps to ensure the ontinued, safe operation of the
printer.
OOppeerraattiioonnaall GGuuii eelliinneess
• While the printer is printing, do not remove the paper sour e tray that is sele ted using either the
print driver or Control Panel.
• Do not open the doors when the printer is printing.
• Do not move the printer when it is printing.
• Keep hands, hair, ne kties, and so on, away from the exit and feed rollers.
• Covers, whi h require tools for removal, prote t the hazard areas within the printer. Do not remove
the prote tive overs.
• Ensure that the rear right over is atta hed. Open this over when you onne t an interfa e able.
OOzzoonnee RReelleeaassee
This printer produ es ozone during a normal operation. The amount of ozone produ ed depends on a
opy volume. Ozone is heavier than air and is not produ ed in amounts large enough to harm anyone.
Install the printer in a well-ventilated room.

PPrriinntteerr LLooccaattiioonn
• Pla e the printer on a level, solid, non-vibrating surfa e with adequate strength to hold the weight
of the printer. To find the weight for the printer onfiguration, refer to Physi al Spe ifi ations.
• Do not blo k or over the slots or openings on the printer. These openings are provided for
ventilation and to prevent overheating of the printer.
• Pla e the printer in an area where there is an adequate spa e for operation and servi ing.
• Pla e the printer in a dust-free area.
• Do not store or operate the printer in a hot, old, or humid environment.
• Do not pla e the printer near a heat sour e.
• Do not pla e the printer in dire t sunlight to avoid an exposure to light-sensitive omponents.
• Do not pla e the printer where it is exposed dire tly to the old air flow from an air onditioning
system.
• Do not pla e the printer in lo ations sus eptible to vibrations.

• Store all supplies in a ordan e with the instru tions given on the pa kage or ontainer.
• Keep all supplies away from the rea h of hildren.
• Never throw toner, print or drum artridges, or toner ontainers into an open flame.
• When you handle supplies, avoid skin or eye onta t. Eye onta t an ause irritation and
inflammation.
• Do not attempt to disassemble supplies, whi h an in rease the risk of skin or eye onta t.
Caution: Use of non-Xerox supplies is not re ommended. The Xerox Warranty and the Servi e
Agreement do not over damage, malfun tion, or degradation of performan e aused by use
of non-Xerox supplies, or the use of Xerox supplies not spe ified for the printer.
VVaaccuuuumm CClleeaanneerr UUssee ffoorr TToonneerr SSppiillllss
Use a broom or wet loth to wipe off the spilled toner. To minimize generation of dust parti les,
sweep or wipe slowly. Avoid using a va uum. If you have to use a va uum, ensure that the unit is
designed to ontain ombustible dusts. Ensure that the va uum in ludes an explosion rated motor
and non- ondu tive hose.

Maintenance Safety
The Xerox®printer and supplies are designed and tested to meet stri t safety requirements. Safety

• Follow all warnings and instru tions marked on, or supplied with, the produ t, options, and
supplies.
• Do not attempt any maintenan e pro edure that is not des ribed in the do umentation supplied
with the printer.
• Always exer ise are when you move or relo ate the printer. Conta t your Xerox®representative
to arrange the relo ation of the printer.
• Never throw toner, print or drum artridges, or toner ontainers into an open flame.
WARNING: Before leaning the printer, unplug it from the ele tri al outlet.
Do not use aerosol leaners. Aerosol leaners an ause explosions or fires when used on
ele trome hani al equipment.
The metalli surfa es in the fuser area are hot. To avoid personal injury, use aution.
Do not attempt to remove paper that is jammed deeply inside the produ t. Swit h off the
produ t promptly and onta t your lo al Xerox®representative.
Do not apply ex essive for e on the do ument glass.
Do not override any ele tri al or me hani al interlo k devi es.
