Getting The Most From Your Pager
This manual is specific for Unication Alpha series, 8/16 RIC pager, named
Alpha ELEGANT and Alpha LEGEND only.
We recommend you to spend a few minutes learning all
of
the functions and
messaging capabilities
of
your pager.
Give yourpager number
to
your business associates, friends, family, children's
school, and the babysitter so you can always be reached in an emergency.
Include your pager number on business cards and yourvoice mail.

Receiving and Reading
Your
Messages
When a message is received, your pager alerts and displays a flashing • symbol.
1. Press any button
to
stop the alert.
2. Press -to display your message.
Read stored message(s)
The pager automatically stores the message and the time and date
it
is received.
A flashing arrow
·l·
at
the bottom right corner
of
the screen indicates the message
you are reading continues beyond the four lines
of
the display.
1. Press -
to
advance
to
the next screen
of
the message.
2. Press '
to
read your message line by line.
3. Press and hold -
to
rapidly scroll through yourmessage, screen by sc-
reen.
Read more stored messages
The ELEGANT and LEGEND pagers store up
to
19 personal messages in me-
mory.
If
more than
one
message exists, you can
do
as below.
1. Press

to
select the message you want to read. The symbol

indicates the location
of
the message.
2. Press -
to
displayyour message. While reading
your messages, you can press

to
viewthe previous
or
next message.
A
flashing@
symbol indicates you have a message that has not been read.
The pager alerts
at
predetermined intervals
to
remind you
of
any unread mess-
ages.

Using the Function Menu
Press •
to
display the function menu.
The function menu gives you access
to
the many features
of
your pager through
a series
of
symbols and prompts.
F
or
exampl
e,
when the function menu screen isfirst displayed, the
++
symbol
flashes, indicating the present position
of
the cursor. You can
now
press...,.. or~
to move the cursor within the function menu.
NOTE: To exitfrom any menu without making changes, press- .
Backlighting
The pager
's
backlight illuminates in low-light conditions when any button is pre-
ssed. You can manually activate
or
deactivate the backlight
at
any time
by
pres-
sing and
ho
lding • for two seconds.
If
no
other buttons are pressed, the backlight automatically turns offwhen the
pagerreturns
to
the standby mode.
Locking and Unlocking Messages
Up
to
10 messages can
be
locked in memory, preventing them from being repl-
aced when memory isfull (indicated
by
the
:.:..;
symbol).

Display Zoom
When this feature is enabled, the standard 4-line display is converted
to
a 2-line
display. The characters are enlarged vertically, increasing message readability.
To Enable Display Zoom:

All
new
and stored messages including notebookmessages are displayed in a
two line format. Pagerprompts are not enlarged in the zoom mode.

automatically
wraps around and displays
at
the first symbol in the beginning

the same row
(farleft).

Setting the Alarm
The
alarm on yourpagercan set
two
daily alarms
for
a specific timeand date,
or
it can be used as a daily alarm.
To set the alarm for a specific time and date:
1. Press •
to
display the function menu.

To
set the alarm to alert dally:
Follow the steps previously described, exceptwhen setting the date, press l
for the date entries until you see a blank month, day, and year (--/--/--
).
The alarm is now set
to
alert every day
at
this specified time.
NOTE1:
If
the alarm expires without being acknowledged, the symbol flashes
until any button is pressed.
NOTE2: To exitfrom any menu without making changes, press - .
Setting the Message Alarm
This feature allows you to set a one-time
or
a dailyalarm for a particular perso-
nal message. You can set an alarm
for
up
to
five personal messages.
To
set a one-time message alarm:

Setting the Alert Pattern
NOTE: The pager must
be
in the audible alert mode
to
select the alert pattern.
Your pagerhas six alertmodes (alert mode, alert and vibrate mode, vibrate then
alert mode, vibrate mode, chirping mode, silent mode), sixteen alert patterns
(one standard alert, eight different pleasing alerts, seven different urgent alert),
two vibrate modes (continuous vibrate, interrupted vibrate) and two tone modes
(general tone, escalating tone), allowing you
to
selectand change the alert.
To

Setting the On/OffDuty
This feature allows you to selectively enable
or
disable the message alerts sent
to
specific pager numbers
or
groups.
Afterpagerhas been programmed,
go
to
the pager's menu screen, using
the
..,..
keybutton move to the On/Off Duty Icon ( C),
it
should be flashing and indic-
ating "ON DUTY".
Note: Upon programming
the
pager it
is
defaulted
to
being On Duty so all Fun-
ctional Addresses are enabled
for
alerting.
