NOTICE
Thisunit isequipped withabattery pack and backup battery.It ispossiblethatthe UnitechPA966 may
notpowered on due tobattery discharge asaresultofstorage.
Intheabovesituation,plug the PA966 tothe RS232 orUSB cablewithDCinportorputtheunit
intotheUnitechPA96xCradle(with12V/2AAC-DC adapter),and rechargethe unitfor16hoursinorderto
fullycharge itsbackup battery.
The backupbattery willchargefromexternalpowerorthe mainbattery (ifthe mainbatterystillhas
enough powertoturnon).Inthe event themain batteryisfullycharged,refrainfromusingthePA966 for
16 hoursinorderforthe mainbattery tofullycharge the backup battery.
Backing up databybackup battery only, withoutthemainbattery installedinbatterycompartmentmay
takeaslongas6hours.Therefore,inordertopreventdataprotectionfailuredue tobackupbattery failure,
do notleavethe PA966withoutthe rechargeablebatterypack installed,orwithoutconnection toAC
powerforanextendedperiod oftime.

Installing theBatteryPack
1.Removethebatterycompartmentdoor(located on
the lowerback side ofthe unit).
2.Position the battery pack withthe labelside towardsyou,and the
battery pack straptowardsthe bottomofthe unit. Insertand fullyseat
the battery pack,making surethe shape ofthe battery pack fitsthe
shapeofthe battery compartment.

Charging theMainandBackup BatteriesfortheFirst Time
It maytakeup to16 hourstofullycharge the emptybackup battery. The firsttimecharge should
be atleast 16 hourstoensureapropercharge.
CAUTION:Operating thePA966 forthefirsttime withouttheACadapter,and withoutfully
charging thebackup battery may resultinloss ofdatastoredinRAMmemory.

ouslyattachingaPulling Tag,the cardcan be removedby
affixing alengthofadhesivetapetothesurfaceofthecard
andpulling thecardoutbypulling outwardon thepieceof
tape.
PCMCIAPullingTags
PullingTagssimplifytheremoval ofPCMCIAcardsfromthe PA966.Before
insertingaPCMCIAcard,removeoneofthethreePullingTagsfromthe
Pulling Tagsheetand adhereittobothsidesofthe PCMCIAcard, leaving a
short(approx. 78)tab.Toremovethe PCMCIAcard,simplypull outwardson
thistab.
Protective ScreenFilm
The PA966 screenshipswithaprotectiveplasticfilm. You mayremovethisifdesired by
peeling fromone corner.Thescreenwill bemoresusceptibletoscratchingwithout the
film,butwillbemorereadable.
Using theStylus
CAUTION:Neveruseanything otherthanthe PA9666sstyluson the
screen.Using objectother than astyluscouldcausepermanent
damage.
Towritedataintoafieldon aform,usethe stylustoprintthe lettersor
numbers.Usevery lightpressure.

PressingtheON/OFF Key
TheUnitechPA966 welcomescreenappears.The
WindowsCE;screen will appearshortly.
AdjustingScreenBrightness
Press [FUNC] keyand Cursorkeytodecrease
orincreasescreen brightness.
CalibratingthePA966
The PA966 will promptyoutocalibratethe unitby
tapping asequenceofscreen locations.Tapgentlybut
firmly.Whenyou havecompleted the seriesoftaps,
press the [ENT]keytoconfirmit orpress the [ESC]
keytocancelit.
Thisscreen will automaticallyappearwhen the unitis
powered onforthe firsttimeorafterthesystemis
reset. Thisscreen canalsobe accessed at anytimeby
pressing thehot key[FUNC]and the [ESC]key.
SettingTimeZone,Date,andTime
AfterCalibratingthePA966,the <Date/TimeProperties8
dialog boxwill appear.Followthe stepsbelowtoset
the dateand time.
