INTRODUCTION
To your VTech 15850 DECT6.0 Cordless Phone with
Answering Machine
Phonebook –The home phonebook stores up to
200 entries; the mobile phonebook stores up to 1500
entries for each of the 4 mobile phonebooks.
Calling Number Display* lets you see who’s calling.
Your phone stores details of the last 50 callers in the
Call List.
Answering machine, with up to 45 minutes digital
recording time and helpful voice prompts.
* IMPORTANT
You need to subscribe to a Network Calling Number
Display service to be able to see the caller’s number or
name when called, or in the Calls List. See page 94 for
more details.
This User Guide provides you with all the information
you need to get the most from your phone. Before you

When using your telephone equipment, basic safety
precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk

Read and understand all the instructions.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the
product.
Unplug this product from the wall outlet before
cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a
damp cloth for cleaning.
Do not use this product near water (for example, near
a bath tub, kitchen sink, swimming pool) or in humid
areas.
Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as

Avoid using a telephone during an electrical storm.
There may be a remote risk of electric shock from
lightning.
Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the
vicinity of the leak.
Use only the supplied NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride)
batteries. The operation periods for the handsets are
only applicable with the default battery capacity.
The use of other battery types or non rechargeable
batteries/primary mobile batteries can be
dangerous. These may cause interference and/or
unit damage. VTech will not be held liable for damage
arising from such noncompliance.
Use only the power adaptors supplied with this
product. Please contact TecHelp on 1300 369 193 for
replacement adaptors.
Please ensure that the batteries are inserted
according to the correct polarity as indicated on the
re-chargeable batteries and the internal markings
inside the handset battery compartment.
Do not immerse the batteries in water, and do not

LOCATION
Place your VTech 15850 within 2 metres of the mains
power socket and telephone socket so that the cables
will reach.
Make sure it is at least 1 metre away from other
electrical appliances to avoid interference. Your VTech
15850 works by sending radio signals between the base
and handset. The strength of the signal depends on
where you locate the base. Putting it as high as possible
ensures the best signal.
The maximum range between the base station and the
handset is approximately 300 meters.

Telephone base installation
Install the telephone base as shown below. Make sure
you clicked the wall mount bracket securely into the
mounting slots before plugging in the adapter and
telephone line cord.
Note: Ensure power cord is fed through slot on base so

Handset batteries installation
Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset battery compartment. Insert the supplied battery as indicated.  then slide it upwards until it clicks into place.

Charge the handset by placing it face forward in the
telephone base or charger. The CHARGE light on the
handset is on during charging.

Note: The display of your handset may go blank for a
short time when placing back on charge. This is the
normal operation of your handset.

Additional handset charger installation
Plug the power cable into the charger base.
Plug the other end into a mains power wall socket.
Install batteries to handset, and place the handset in
the handset charger to charge.

Range extender setup (for multi handset packs)


Stand near the telephone base and make a call.
Walk away from the telephone base with the handset.
Make a note where the signal becomes weaker.
Note: The optimum location for the Range Extender is
as far from the telephone base as possible while still


To install the Range Extender:
Plug the mains power cable into the Range Extender

Or if you want to mount the Range Extender on a wall:
Plug the mains power cable into the Range Extender,
thread the cable through the locking slot and then
bundle the power cable with a twist tie.
Hold the Range Extender in the place where you plan
to mount it. The blue light on should remain on
and steady, indicating that the Range Extender has a
good signal from the telephone base.
Put the wall mount slot on the back of the Range
Extender over the screw heads and slide the Range
Extender down into place.

This range extender doubles the effective transmission
distance between the base unit and the cordless
handset. Place your VTech Range Extender(s) in

talking further away from the base than ever before.

POwER-fAIL bACkUP MODE
Power-fail mode allows your telephone system to
function in the event of a power outage. The telephone
system uses stored power from the handset’s battery to
operate.
After the power goes out, if there is already a handset
with enough charge placed in the telephone base,
the telephone system enters battery backup mode
automatically. That handset screen shows Powering
base... Don’t pick up. All other handset screens show
Battery backup mode.
-OR-
If there is no handset placed in the telephone base after
the power goes out, all handsets show Out of range OR
no power at base and Put HS on base to power base
alternatively. Place any handset with enough charge in
the telephone base. Its screen shows Powering base...
Don’t pick up. All other handset screens show Battery
backup mode.
Note: A handset which does not have enough charge to
power up the base, its screen shows Out of range OR no
power at base and Not enough battery to power base
alternatively after the power goes out. Find another system
handset that has enough charge to activate the mode.
