1. Introduction
To all residents of the European Union

of the device after its lifecycle could harm the environment. Do
not dispose of the unit (or batteries) as unsorted municipal
waste; it should be taken to a specialized company for recycling.
This device should be returned to your distributor or to a local

3. General Guidelines
Refer to the Velleman®Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of
this manual.

WARNING: To avoid electrical shock always disconnect the test
leads prior to opening the housing. To prevent fire hazards, only
use fuses with the same ratings as specified in this manual.
Remark: refer to the warning on the battery compartment
Avoid cold, heat and large temperature fluctuations. When the
unit is moved from a cold to a warm location, leave it switched
off until it has reached room temperature. This to avoid
condensation and measuring errors.
Protect this device from shocks and abuse. Avoid brute force
when operating.

away from rain, moisture, splashing and dripping liquids. Not for
industrial use. Refer to §8 Pollution degree.

This is an installation category CAT II measuring
instrument. Refer to §7 Overvoltage/installation category.
Read this addendum and the manual thoroughly. Familiarise
yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it.
All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons.
Damage caused by user modifications to the device is not
covered by the warranty.
Only use the device for its intended purpose. Using the device in
an unauthorized way will void the warranty. Damage caused by
disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by
the warranty and the dealer will not accept responsibility for any
ensuing defects or problems.
4. Maintenance
There are no user-serviceable parts inside the device.
Refer to an authorized dealer for service and/or spare parts.
Before performing any maintenance activities, disconnect the test leads
from the jacks.
For instructions on replacing battery or fuse, refer to §11 Battery and fuse
replacement.
Do not apply abrasives or solvents to the meter. Use a damp cloth and mild
detergent for cleaning purposes.
5. During Use
Risk of electric shock during operation. Be very careful when
measuring live circuits.
Never exceed the limit value for protection. This limit value is listed
separately in the specifications for each range of measurement.
Do not touch unused terminals when the meter is linked to a circuit
which is being tested.
Never use the meter with CAT II installations when measuring voltages
that might exceed the safety margin of 600 V above earth ground.
Set the range selector at its highest position if the intensity of the
charge to be measured is unknown beforehand.
Disconnect the test leads from the tested circuit before rotating the
range selector in order to change functions.
When carrying out measurements on a TV set or switching power
circuits, always remember that the meter may be damaged by any high
amplitude voltage pulses at test points.

Always be careful when working with voltages above 60 VDC or 30 VAC
rms. Keep your fingers behind the probe barriers at all times during
measurement.
Never perform resistance, diode or continuity measurements on live
circuits. Make sure all capacitors in the circuit are depleted.
6. Overvoltage/Installation Category
DMMs are categorized depending on the risk and severity of transient
overvoltage that might occur at the point of test. Transients are short-lived
bursts of energy induced in a system, e.g. caused by lightning strike on a
power line.
The existing categories according EN 61010-1 are:
CAT I
A CAT I-rated meter is suitable for measurements on protected
electronic circuits that are not directly connected to mains power, e.g.
electronics circuits, control signals…
CAT
II
A CAT II-rated meter is suitable for measurements in CAT I-
environments and mono-phase appliances that are connected to the
mains by means of a plug and circuits in a normal domestic
environment, provided that the circuit is at least 10 m apart from a
CAT III- or 20 m apart from a CAT IV-environment. E.g. household
appliances, portable tools…

III
A CAT III-rated meter is suitable for measurements in CAT I- and
CAT II-environments, as well as for measurements on (fixed) mono-
or poly-phased appliances which are at least 10 m apart from of a
CAT IV-environment, and for measurements in or on distribution level
equipment (fuse boxes, lighting circuits, electric ovens).

IV
A CAT IV-rated meter is suitable for measuring in CAT I-, CAT II- and
CAT III-environments as well as on the primary supply level.
Note that for all measurements on equipment for which the supply
cables run outdoors (either overhead or underground) a CAT IV
meter must be used.
Warning:
This device was designed in accordance with EN 61010-1 installation
category CAT II 600 V. This implies that certain restrictions in use apply that
are related to voltages and voltage peaks which can occur within the
environment of use. Refer to the table above.
This device is only suitable for measurements up to 600 V in CAT II

7. Pollution Degree
IEC 61010-1 specifies different types of pollution environments, for which
different protective measures are necessary to ensure safety. Harsher
environments require more protection, and the protection against the
pollution which is to be found in a certain environment depends mainly on
the insulation and the enclosure properties. The pollution degree rating of
the DVM indicates in which environment the device may be used.

No pollution or only dry, nonconductive pollution occurs. The
pollution has no influence. (only to be found in hermetically
sealed enclosures)

Only nonconductive pollution occurs. Occasionally, temporary
conductivity caused by condensation is to be expected.(home
and office environments fall under this category)
Pollution
degree 3
Conductive pollution occurs, or dry nonconductive pollution
occurs that becomes conductive due to condensation that is
to be expected.
(industrial environments and environments exposed to
outside air - but not in contact with precipitation)

The pollution generates persistent conductivity caused by
conductive dust or by rain or snow. (exposed outdoor
environments and environments where high humidity levels
or high concentrations of fine particles occur)

This device is only suitable for measurements in Pollution
degree class 2 environments.

9. Operation
GENERAL
When the range of the measured signal is unknown, start measurement
in auto-range mode, and then select range according to indicated value.
The display shows “OL” when the present range limit is exceeded. Select
a higher range to continue measurement.
Do not measure voltages > 600 V or current higher than 1000A. Never
turn the rotary function switch [3] during measurement.
The device will go in sleep mode when no activity is detected for ±30
min.
For all measurements: pressing the data hold button [4] freezes the
currently measured value until the data hold button [4] is pressed again.
The hold-mode is indicated by the word “HOLD” in the display.
To switch on the backlight, press and hold the backlight button [4] for
about one second. To switch the backlight off, press and hold the
backlight button [4] again for ±1s. Note that the meter goes in HOLD
mode when switching the backlight on or off. Press the data hold button
[4] again to continue normal measurement.
The meter starts in auto ranging mode. To select the range manually,
press the range button [7] (not for AC current, diode and continuity
measurements). To return to auto ranging, press and hold the range
button [7] for ±2 seconds.
AC/DC VOLTAGE MEASUREMENT
Connect the red test lead to the "V Ω °C/°F" jack [10] and the black lead
to the "COM" jack [9].
Set the rotary function switch [3] in the position.
Use the mode button [5] to choose between AC and DC voltage.
Connect the test leads parallel to the source being measured.
Read the voltage value on the LCD display [8] along with the polarity of
the red lead connection.
AC CURRENT MEASUREMENT
Make sure no test leads are connected to the “V Ω °C/°F” [10] or “COM”
[9] jacks.
Set the rotary switch [3] in the desired range (40A, 400A or 1000A). If
the current to be measured is unknown beforehand, set the range switch
in the highest range position and then reduce gradually until the ideal
resolution is obtained.
Press the trigger [2] to open the jaws [1] of the clamp. Enclose a single
conductor within the clamp and release the trigger [2]. Enclosing
multiple conductors at the same time will result in faulty measurements.
Read the current value on the LCD display.

RESISTANCE, AUDIBLE CONTINUITY, DIODE and CAPACITY TEST
Connect the red test lead to the "V Ω °C/°F" jack [10] and the black lead
to the "COM" jack [9].
Set the rotary switch [3] in the " " position.
For resistance test and continuity test, press the mode button [5] until
the “Ω” symbol appears in the display. Connect the test leads to the
resistor to be measured and read the value in the LCD display.
Disconnect one side of the device under test to avoid interference from
the rest of the circuit. When the resistance is <100Ω, a continuity buzzer
will sound.
For diode measurements, press the mode button [5] until the " "
symbol appears in the display. When the diode passes the test, indicated
forward voltage will be 0.4~0.7V while reverse voltage will indicate “OL”.
When the diode is short circuited, both readings will be ±0mV; when
open, both measurements will shown “OL”.
Notes: forward DC current: ±0.3mA
open circuit voltage: ±1.5V
For capacity measurements, press the mode button [5] until “F” is shown
in the display. Warning: disconnect power to the device under test
(including batteries!) and discharge all capacitors before measuring
capacitance. Connect the test leads to the capacitor to be measured and
read the value in the LCD display.
FREQUENCY or % DUTY CYCLE measurement
Connect the red test lead to the "V Ω °C/°F" jack [10] and the black lead
to the "COM" jack [9].
Set the rotary switch [3] in the "Hz·%" position. Select Hz or % duty with
the Hz - % select button [6],the selection is indicated in the display.
Connect the test leads to the circuit under test and read the value in the
LCD display.
TEMPERATURE
Set the rotary switch [3] in the "°C·°F" position. Select °C or °F with the
mode select button [5],the selection is indicated in the display.
Insert the side of the temperature probe adapter marked with “+” in the
"V Ω °C/°F" jack [10] and the other side (“-”) in the "COM" jack [9].
Hold the probe head to the device under test for ±30s and read the value
in the LCD display.
Do not change the rotary function switch when the thermocouple is
connected to the meter.
10. Battery
When the low battery indication appears, replace the internal battery.

Always disconnect test leads when replacing the battery. Do not us the
device without batteries installed.
The battery cover is located on the back of the device and is closed with
one screw. Remove the screw and open the battery compartment.
Remove the battery and insert a new 9V battery following the polarity as
indicated in the battery holder. Only use a new battery of the same type
and specifications.
Reinstall the cover and secure it with the screw.
Remove the battery when the device will not be used for a long time to
avoid leakage.
Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries and do not throw in fire as
they may explode.
WARNING: handle batteries with care, observe warnings on
battery casing. Dispose of batteries in accordance with local
regulations. Keep batteries away from children.

WAARSCHUWING: Om elektrische schokken te vermijden,
ontkoppel altijd de meetsnoeren alvorens de behuizing te
openen. Om brand te voorkomen gebruik enkel zekeringen met
dezelfde specificaties zoals aangegeven in de handleiding.
Opmerking: zie waarschuwing op de achterkant van het toestel
Vermijd koude, hitte en grote temperatuurschommelingen. Als
het toestel van een koude naar een warme omgeving verplaatst
wordt, laat het toestel dan eerst voldoende op temperatuur
komen. Dit om meetfouten en condensvorming te vermijden.
Bescherm tegen schokken. Vermijd brute kracht tijdens de
bediening.
Toestel met vervuilingsgraad 2. Enkel geschikt voor gebruik
binnenshuis! Bescherm het toestel tegen regen, vochtigheid en
opspattende vloeistoffen. Niet geschikt voor industrieel gebruik.
Zie §8 Vervuilingsgraad.
Houd dit toestel uit de buurt van kinderen en onbevoegden.
Elektrocutiegevaar tijdens het gebruik van deze
multimeter. Wees voorzichtig tijdens het meten van een circuit
onder spanning.

Er zijn geen onderdelen in het toestel die door de gebruiker
gerepareerd kunnen worden.
Contacteer uw verdeler voor eventuele reserveonderdelen.
Dit toestel valt onder installatiecategorie CAT III. Zie
§7 Overspanning-/installatiecategorie.
Lees het addendum en deze handleiding zorgvuldig door. Leer
eerst de functies van het toestel kennen voor u het gaat
gebruiken.
Om veiligheidsredenen mag u geen wijzigingen aanbrengen.
Schade door wijzigingen die de gebruiker heeft aangebracht aan
het toestel valt niet onder de garantie.
Gebruik het toestel enkel waarvoor het gemaakt is. Bij
onoordeelkundig gebruik vervalt de garantie. De garantie geldt
niet voor schade door het negeren van bepaalde richtlijnen in
deze handleiding en uw dealer zal de verantwoordelijkheid
afwijzen voor defecten of problemen die hier rechtstreeks
verband mee houden.
4. Onderhoud
Er zijn geen onderdelen in het toestel die door de gebruiker
gerepareerd kunnen worden.
Contacteer uw verdeler voor eventuele reserveonderdelen.
Ontkoppel de meetsnoeren van de aansluitingen voor het onderhoud of de
reiniging.
Voor informatie over het vervangen van de batterijen en de zekering, zie
§11 Batterijen en zekeringen vervangen.
Gebruik nooit agressieve schuur- of oplosmiddelen. Reinig de meter enkel
met een vochtige doek en een zachte detergent.
5. Tijdens het gebruik
Elektrocutiegevaar tijdens het gebruik van deze multimeter.
Wees voorzichtig tijdens het meten van een circuit onder spanning.
Overschrijd nooit de grenswaarden. Deze waarde wordt afzonderlijk in
de technische gegevens van elk meetbereik vermeld.
Raak geen ongebruikte aansluitingen aan wanneer de meter gekoppeld
is aan een meetcircuit.
Gebruik de meter nooit voor CAT II-installaties bij spanningsmetingen
die de veiligheidsmarge van 600 V boven het massapotentiaal (kunnen)
overschrijden.
Plaats de bereikschakelaar in de hoogste stand indien u de intensiteit
van de belasting niet op voorhand kent.

Ontkoppel de meetsnoeren van het meetcircuit alvorens u aan de
draaischakelaar draait.
Wanneer u metingen uitvoert op een tv of een schakelende voeding,
mag u niet vergeten dat een sterke stroomstoot ter hoogte van de
geteste punten de meter kan beschadigen.
Wees uiterst voorzichtig bij metingen > 60 VDC of > 30 VAC rms. Houd
tijdens metingen uw vingers achter de beschermingsrand van de
meetpennen.
Voer nooit weerstands-, diode- of continuïteitsmetingen uit in circuits
waarop spanning aanwezig is. Zorg ervoor dat alle condensatoren in het
circuit volledig ontladen zijn.

7. Overspannings-/installatiecategorie
DMM’s worden opgedeeld volgens het risico op en de ernst van
spanningspieken die kunnen optreden op het meetpunt. Spanningspieken
zijn kortstondige uitbarstingen van energie die geïnduceerd worden in een
systeem door bv. blikseminslag op een hoogspanningslijn.
De bestaande categorieën volgens EN 61010-1 zijn:
CAT I
Een CAT I-meter is geschikt voor metingen op beschermde
elektronische circuits die niet rechtstreeks verbonden zijn met het
lichtnet, bv. elektronische schakelingen, stuursignalen…
CAT
II
Een CAT II-meter is geschikt voor metingen in CAT I-omgevingen en
op enkelfasige apparaten die aan het lichtnet gekoppeld zijn door
middel van een stekker en circuits in een normale huiselijke
omgeving, op voorwaarde dat het circuit minstens 10 m verwijderd is
van een CAT III-omgeving, en minstens 20 m van een CAT IV-
omgeving. Bv. huishoudapparaten, draagbaar gereedschap...

III
Een CAT III-meter is geschikt voor metingen in CAT I- en CAT II-
omgevingen, alsook voor metingen aan enkel- en meerfasige (vaste)
toestellen op meer dan 10 m van een CAT IV-omgeving, en metingen
in of aan distributiekasten (zekeringkasten, verlichtingscircuits,
elektrisch fornuis).
CAT
IV
Een CAT IV-meter is geschikt voor metingen in CAT I-, CAT II- en
CAT III-omgevingen alsook metingen op het primaire toevoerniveau.
Merk op dat voor metingen op toestellen waarvan de toevoerkabels
buitenshuis lopen (zowel boven- als ondergronds) een CAT IV-meter
gebruikt moet worden.
Waarschuwing:
Dit toestel is conform de EN 61010-1 installatiecategorie CAT II 600 V
ontworpen. Dit houdt bepaalde gebruiksbeperkingen in die te maken hebben
met spanningen en spanningpieken die kunnen voorkomen in de
gebruiksomgeving. Zie tabel hierboven.
Dit toestel is enkel geschikt voor metingen tot 600 V in CAT II
8. Vervuilingsgraad
IEC 61010-1 specificeert de algemene veiligheidsvoorschriften voor de
verschillende omgevingstypes. Omgevingen met een hogere
vervuilingsgraad hebben een betere bescherming nodig tegen mogelijke
invloeden van de verschillende types vervuiling die in deze omgeving
kunnen voorkomen. Deze bescherming hangt hoofdzakelijk af van de

Omgeving waar frequent geleidende vervuiling voorkomt,
bv. veroorzaakt door geleidend stof, regen of sneeuw. (in
openlucht en omgevingen met een hoge vochtigheidsgraad
of hoge concentraties fijn stof)
Waarschuwing: Dit toestel is ontworpen conform EN 61010-1
vervuilingsgraad 2. Dit houdt bepaalde gebruiksbeperkingen in die te
maken hebben met de pollutie die kan voorkomen in de gebruiksomgeving.
Zie tabel hierboven.
Dit toestel is enkel geschikt voor gebruik in omgevingen
geclassificeerd als vervuilingsgraad 2.
9. Gebruik
ALGEMEEN
Indien u het bereik niet kent, start de meting met de automatische
bereikinstelling en kies het gepaste bereik aan de hand van de eerste
meetresultaten.
De display geeft ‘OL’ weer indien het bereik overschreden wordt.
Selecteer een hoger bereik.
Meet geen spanning > 600 V of stroom > 1000 A. Draai niet aan de
functieschakelaar [3] tijdens het meten.
Het toestel schakelt naar stand-by na 30 seconden inactiviteit. Druk op
een toets om verder te gaan.
Druk op de vergrendeltoets [4] om de uitlezing op het scherm te
bevriezen (de display geeft ‘HOLD’ weer). Druk opnieuw om verder te
gaan.
Houd de vergrendeltoets [4] ingedrukt om achtergrondverlichting in of
uit te schakelen.
De meettang staat standaard in de automatische bereikinstelling. Stel het
bereik handmatig in met de RANGE-toets [7]. Deze functie is niet
beschikbaar voor AC-stroom, en diode- en continuïteitstest. Houd de
RANGE-toets [7] gedurende ± 2 seconden ingedrukt om de automatische
bereikinstelling opnieuw in te stellen.
METEN VAN AC-/DC-SPANNING
Koppel het rode meetsnoer aan de V Ω °C/°F-ingangsbus [10] en het
zwarte meetsnoer aan de COM-ingangsbus [9].
Plaats de functieschakelaar [3] op .
Kies tussen AC- en DC-spanning met de MODE-toets [5].
Sluit de sondes in parallel aan het te meten circuit.
Lees de waarde en de polariteit van het rode meetsnoer van de display
[8] af.
METEN VAN AC-STROOM
Zorg ervoor dat er geen enkel meetsnoer aan ingangsbussen [9][10] is
aangesloten.

Plaats de functieschakelaar [3] op het gewenste bereik (40, 400 or
1000 A). Indien u het bereik niet kent, start de meting op het hoogste
bereik en kies het gepaste bereik aan de hand van de eerste
meetresultaten.
Open de kaken [1] met de trekker [2] en sluit een enkele geleider
volledig tussen de kaken. Laat de trekker [2] los. Het meten van
meerdere geleiders tegelijkertijd geeft een verkeerde uitlezing weer.
Lees de waarde van het rode meetsnoer van de display [8] af.
METEN VAN WEERSTAND, DOORVERBINDING, EEN DIODE EN CAPACITEIT
Koppel het rode meetsnoer aan de V Ω °C/°F-ingangsbus [10] en het
zwarte meetsnoer aan de COM-ingangsbus [9].
Plaats de functieschakelaar [3] op .
Voor de weerstand- en doorverbindingstest, druk op de MODE-toets [5]
tot Ω op de display verschijnt. Koppel de meetsnoeren aan de weerstand
en lees de waarde van de display [8] af. Ontkoppel een zijde van het te
meten circuit om storingen te vermijden. Bij een goede doorverbinding
piept de multimeter.
Voor de diodetest, druk op de MODE-toets [5] tot op de display
verschijnt. Een goede diode heeft een directe spanning tussen 0,4 ~
0,7 V. Bij een omgekeerde aansluiting en bij een open diode verschijnt
‘OL’, bij een kortsluiting in de diode verschijnt een waarde van ‘± 0 mV’.
Opmerkingen: directe DC-stroom: ± 0,3 mA
spanning open circuit: ± 1,5 V
Voor de capaciteitstest, druk op de MODE-toets [5] tot F op de display
verschijnt. in the display. Let op: ontkoppel eerst de voeding naar het te
meten circuit (ook de batetrijen) en ontlaad alle condensatoren! Sluit de
sondes aan de te meten condensator en lees de waarde van de display
[8] af.
METEN VAN FREQUENTIE EN DE DUTY CYCLE
Koppel het rode meetsnoer aan de V Ω °C/°F-ingangsbus [10] en het
zwarte meetsnoer aan de COM-ingangsbus [9].
Plaats de functieschakelaar [3] op Hz/%. Selecteer Hz of % met de
Hz/%-toets [6]. Uw keuze wordt op de display [8] weergegeven.
Sluit de sondes aan de te meten condensator en lees de waarde van de
display [8] af.
METEN VAN DE TEMPERATUUR
Plaats de functieschakelaar [3] op °C/°F. Selecteer °C of °F met de
MODE-toets [5]. Uw keuze wordt op de display [8] weergegeven.
Koppel de positieve zijde van de temperatuursonde aan de V Ω °C/°F-
ingangsbus [10] en de negatieve zijde aan de COM-ingangsbus [9].
Houd de temperatuursonde gedurende ± 30 seconden tegen het te
meten object en lees de waarde van de display [8] af.

Draai niet aan de functieschakelaar terwijl de temperatuursonde aan de
meettang gekoppeld is.
10. Batterij
Vervang de batterij van zodra de aanduiding voor zwakke batterij op de
display verschijnt.
Ontkoppel de testsnoeren alvorens de batterij te vervangen. Gebruik geen
meettang zonder batterij.
Maak de schroef los en open het batterijvak achteraan de meettang.
Verwijder de oude batterij en plaats een nieuwe 9 V-batterij van hetzelfde
type. Respecteer de polariteitsaanduidingen.
Sluit het batterijvak en span de schroef aan.
Verwijder de batterij na gebruik.
Herlaad geen alkalinebatterijen en gooi ze nooit in het vuur.
WAARSCHUWING: Volg de richtlijnen op de verpakking van
de batterij. Houd de batterij buiten bereik van kinderen.
