NETWORK SETUP
Overview
The encoder is used to capture analog camera outputs and provide IP encoded
analytic data to the ViconNet Video Intelligence Video Analytics Server (VN-VI-
SERVER). One encoder is required for each analog camera output. In order to
communicate with the encoder(s), each must be set up with a unique IP address
on your network. The following paragraphs describe how to set up for encoder(s)
for network communication.
Setting up the Encoder
NOTE
The following steps might require that you change your workstation's IP address in
order to communicate with the encoder. Make sure that you note the workstation
settings or address prior to making any changes. You will change the IP address
back to the original address or setting, when you have completed setting up the
encoder.
If you are unsure of any of the following steps or on a Corporate LAN, please
consult your Network Administrator.
Connecting to the Encoder
The following steps assume that you are using Windows® XP or Windows Server
2000 (or higher) on your workstation. The default IP address of the encoder is:

3
198.168.0.62. In order to communicate with the encoder, your workstation has to
be on the same network IP (198.160.0.XXX) as the encoder. If it is not, perform
the following:
1. Disconnect your workstation from the network and connect its network
interface with the Ethernet (ETH) connector on the rear panel of the encoder,
using a crossed LAN cable or an Ethernet switch.
2. Connect power to the encoder (See Installing the Encoder in this guide).
3. On your workstation, right-click My Network Places and click Properties.
4. Right-click Local Area Connection icon and click Properties. The Local Area
Connection Properties window displays.
5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. The Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window displays.
NOTE
Depending upon how your system is set up, it may obtain an IP address
automatically or a fixed IP address may be listed. An example of each follows.

6. If your screen resembles the screen shown with an IP address and Subnet
mask, write down your settings. You will need to reenter the settings when the
procedure is complete.
7. Change the IP address to: 192.168.0.1, and the Subnet mask to:
255.255.255.0.
8. Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt or
Start/Run/cmd.

9. In the Command Prompt window, type ping 192.168.0.62. You should see a
response similar to the window below.
NOTE
The encoder is preset with a default IP address of 192.168.0.62.
10.If you do not receive a response similar to that shown above, ensure that you
have followed all of the steps correctly.

Encoder Network Setup
To set up the encoder with your network parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Open a web browser and enter http://192.168.0.62. You are now ready to set
up the encoder on your network. A browser window will display.
NOTE
If you received a firmware update from Vicon and wish to upgrade your firmware
version, click Write DSP Flash. Browse for the updated .bin file and click Write
Flash to update. When the process has completed, reset the unit and reload this
web page. See Resetting the Encoder in this guide for a description of this
procedure.
2. Click Network Properties link. The Mango DSP IP Node Configuration
web page displays.
NOTE
If you are unsure of any of the following steps or on a Corporate LAN, please
consult your Network Administrator.
The preferred method is to assign a fixed IP address to the encoder. There is
currently no way to discover the IP address the encoder has received from the
DHCP server.

3. Enter Hostname, and select Fixed: Assign the following IP address
configuration to the hardware. Enter the values in each field. Provide a
unique IP address for the encoder. Click Save.
NOTE
Each encoder is preset with a unique MAC address that cannot be modified by the
user.
If you are setting up multiple encoders, they must all have a unique IP address.
For example: If you use the default network settings, you can set each encoder up
as follows: 192.168.0.XXX, where XXX is a unique number for each encoder.
4. Configuration is complete. Reset the encoder (see Resetting the Encoder) and
connect it to your network.
5. Reset your workstation to its original settings and reconnect it to the network.
Resetting the Encoder
You can reset the encoder by clicking on the Reset DSP link on the browser
interface, pressing the RESET button on the front panel or cycling power to the
encoder.
