1.0 Technical information about Viridian EcoLite charging station
Viridian EcoLite charging station is developed to supply power to electric vehicle. The charging
station comes with a residual current device Type B to protect against direct current (DC)
leakage (pulsating and smooth DC) which may occur after the cars rectifier and might leak
back onto the power line.

2.0 Installation of Viridian EcoLite charging station
The charging station is designed to be mounted on a wall, ladder pole or other suitable fixed
installation. NB! Do not drill in the enclosure/housing as this compromise the corrosion
resistance of the housing.
2.1 Connection
Incoming conductors are connected to the RCD and ground terminal. It is ready for cabling
both at the back and the bottom of the charging station. An additional grounding cord is
included that can be removed if this is not necessary. (Used when mounting external charging
cable / controller)
Charging station supports all power grids –230V 1/3-phase (IT) og 400V 3-phase (TN) and
can be connected as:
1) 1P+N (1-phase / 400V TN-S)
a. L1 and N are connected and the charging station is connected as 1-phase
230V
2) 2P (1-phase / 230V IT)
a. L1 and N are connected and the charging station is connected as 1-phase
230V
3) 3P (3-phase / 230V IT)
a. L1, L2 and N are connected and the charging station is connected as 3-phase
230V*
4) 3P+N (3-phase / 400V TN-S)
a. L1, L2, L3 and N are connected and the charging station is connected as 3-
phase 400V**
*Cars with type 2 socket that have L1 and L2 active can utilize «3-phase 230V». E.g. Tesla,
BMW i3 and e-Golf (2017) support this. Note that this is really a «2-phase» solution and
gives about 15% power versus regular 1-phase charging. In this setup, connect the L3 to
the N connector, while the L3 socket should remain open.
**Connecting the charging station to 400V/3-phase allows for maximum output (22kW)
and all vehicles that connect will draw the cars maximum capacity.

3.0 Adjusting the amperage / number of amps
The charging station is delivered with 32A as standard (maximum) and is adjusted by mounting
a resistance between the IC and 0V on the charge controller.
Resistance is installed by removing the cover at the charging station and loosening two wing
nuts (one on each side of the type 2 connector). Then the type 2 connector can be tilted
forward and a coupling board can be found on the top. The resistor should be connected to
the IC and 0V sockets at the far right of the switchboard (check the connection diagram on
page 5 and 6). NB! Turn of the RCD type B switch before performing this as these are powered
contacts.
The table shows the various resistors that must be used to adjust the current:
Resistance Ω (Ohm)
Amperage (Number of amps)
249
10A
348
16A
432
20A

4.0 Test of charging station after installation
To test the charging station, connect a suitable mode 3 charging cable to the Type 2 connector
and to the electric vehicle. Make sure that the charging station connects the contactor / relay
and that the car is powered, and that LED lights indicate the different charging processes.
4.1 LED - signal codes
The charging controller LED provides light signals on the charging process and when
connecting a car. When powered, the charging station performs self-test and signals this by
flashing LED light.

5.0 Safety mechanisms
The charging station comes with several safety mechanisms to ensure the charging process is safe and
secure.
5.1 Type 2 connector / outlet
Before charging starts, the Type 2 connector will lock the plugs to the charging station when the plug
is connected to the charger connector on the charging station and the vehicle. This is to prevent
accidental disruption of the charging and prevent the theft of the charging cable. The charging cable is
is locked in place with a 12V solenoid and the charging station releases the plug if it loses power supply
or if a fuse blows. This is why there is a vacuum hose in the bottom of the charging station.
5.2 Locking the charging station
One key is included with each charging station that is intended for the end user to unlock and turn off
the charging station. This is done by turning off the ground fault switch (RCD Type B) inside, and this
prevent unauthorized use of the charging point if this is not desired.

6.0 Error messages
Error message # 1: The charging process will not start.
1) Check the RCD and circuit breaker
a. The RCD might have been triggered due to security reasons
2) Check if the car signals an error message. (e.g. charging not possible)
a. In some rare cases, electric vehicles may interrupt the charging process due to
discrepancies by the power supply. Contact an electrician to investigate your
fuse box and power supply.
3) Check the charging cable
a. Is the charging cable connected and pushed in properly?
i. In some cases, the locking mechanism will be blocked if the cables is
not properly connected and thus does not start the charging
Error message # 2: The charging process is interrupted during charging.
1) Check the earth fault protection (RCD) and circuit breaker
Error message # 3: I cannot remove the charging cable from my car.
1) Unlock the charging cable by using the car's remote control or directly in the car
a. In some cases, locking mechanism will be active to prevent unauthorized
disconnection of the charger cable.
Error message # 4: Charging plug is stuck in the charging station.
1) Turn off the charging station by turning off the ground fault switch (RCD) inside the
charging station.
