responsibility in such cases.
4 Application
The HSS-99 plaster model trimmer is used in dental laboratories and is designed only or
grinding (trimming) plaster models.
To prevent damage to the trimmer and/or to the grinding disc, it has to be used only with
plaster. Otherwise, the grinding disc will quickly lose its sharpness and cutting speed.
Only use the device or this type o application.
6

5 Before Startin
5.1 Transport
Be ore transporting the unit, ensure that it has been unplugged rom the power socket.
Make sure that it is packed correctly in order to avoid accidental damage.
Be sure to check or any transport damage when unpacking the goods. Note down
any damage i ound.
5.2 Stora e
When it comes to unctional sa ety, the location o the trimmer is very important, even i it
is only to be stored there or a short period. The location should be dry, well ventilated and
ree o vibration. An even temperature and a wooden base are desirable. Do not set up or
store the trimmer outdoors. I the unit is to be stored or an extended period, protect it rom
moisture and dust.
6 Installation/ Start-up
6.1 Installation
Open the box, remove the packing materials, and care ully li t out the device and
accessories. Check the included accessories.
7

6.2 Location
Because the trimmer operates only with water, we recommend you install it close to a tap.
The best place is right next to a washbasin. A urther variation is to set up the trimmer on a
console* in the basin itsel (*available as accessory).
The device has to stand horizontally on a steady and even surface.
Do not install the unit outdoors or in places without proper ventilation.
Install the device in a place where it will not block the working area and the
unctionality (take the dimensions into account). When you set up the unit, make
sure that the grinding disc is accessible and that the unit is close to the plaster
separator.
Be ore start-up, be sure the device reaches room temperature.
Before starting the unit, connect up the ollowing:
You will need the thinner pressure hose ( ½ inch – 13 mm) with the woven insert when
installing the rinsin water hose. You use the thicker plastic hose (1 inch – 25 mm) or the
drain hose. When installing the drain hose, make sure that the hose end hangs reely in
the separator and not beneath the sur ace o the water.
8

6.3 Rinsin Water Hose
Locate the rinsing water hose (thinner hose with woven insert) between the tap and the
hose connector on the trimmer. This connector is underneath the unit. Lay it on its side to
connect the hose, making sure not to damage the paint. Use the clamps already on the
hose to connect it, tightening them securely.
There should be a stopcock between the tap and the eed hose so the hose is not under
continuous pressure when the trimmer is not being used.
Ti hten the hose clamps a ain about 2 days after installation.
The tap has to be turned off at ni ht and over the weekend.
6.4 Drain Hose
The drain hose must be laid out such that water can never back up in the trimmer. This
would cause the water to spray out through the grinding disc opening. Always arrange the
hose in a smooth bend (not kinked) and with a permanent drop o at least 2 cm per metre.
The end of the drain hose must be above the water level of a plaster catcher.
The hose end must not be immersed in water.
If necessary, shorten the hose or chan e the drain an le at the trimmer end by
turnin the drain-hose connection.
In its standard con iguration, the drain-hose connection is angled o to the right. However,
it can also be aligned vertically to the right, and this is recommended in di icult drain
situations.
In that case, use a sealing cap instead o the drain connection.
Finally, insert the power plug into the socket, making sure that the mains and the unit
operate on the same voltage.
9

7 Mountin
7.1 Installin the An led Mount
The angled mount is used or trimming very protruding teeth so as not to cut the teeth o .
The angled mount is attached to the HSS-99 support plate. Please ollow the guidelines
below.
When workin with the an led mount, make sure that it has been installed
correctly. It should be installed as shown in the dia ram below.
Make sure that items 1 and 2 are
inserted and en a ed correctly in the
support plate.
8 Settin
The HSS-99 plaster trimmer does not need any other support than the one described in
6.1 “Installing the angled mount”.
10

9 Operation
9.1 General Operatin Instructions
All instructions or using the unit, whether in verbal or written orm, are based on our own
experience and experimentation and can only be regarded as guidelines.
A ter you switch the trimmer on, wait a ew seconds or the motor to come up to
speed. Only then can you use its ull power.
Never push on the models so hard that the motor labours. This could overload it and
cause possible damage.
9.2 Water Re ulation
The water supply can be regulated using the tap or the red ball valve. I you intend to set it
using the ball valve, make sure the tap is ully open. Whichever method you use, the low
o water is su icient i the grinding disc is close to its natural colour when grinding.
The grinding itsel is done by applying light pressure and small le t / right movements o
the model.
Always work with ully set plaster models because wet plaster can block drain hoses
and cause “smearing” o the grinding disc.
11

10 Troubleshootin
Fault Cause Solution
Water spray at
disc opening
Water supply set too high Reduce water pressure at tap or ball
valve (see 8.2 Water regulation)
Drain hose has been
lengthened with a thinner
hose
Make sure that the diameter o the drain
hose is 1 inch (25.4 mm)
Drain hose is kinked Make sure the hose is laid out without
kinks
Hose end is under the sur ace
o the water in the plaster
catcher
Make sure the hose ends above the
water sur ace
The all o the hose is
insu icient
Ensure that the all is at least 2 cm per
metre
The radius o the hose is too
small
Ensure that the hose is laid out as
straight as possible
There is a tube bend in the
hose (causing blow-back)
The bend must be increased to at least
Ø = 40 mm
I the above recommendations do not solve the problem, contact your dental depot
or our service department.
12

Be ore you carry out any cleaning or maintenance work, disconnect the power
plug and prevent the motor rom restarting accidentally.

The identi ication plate has always to be kept in easily legible condition and has
not to be removed.
Remove external dirt (caustic traces o plaster) rom time to time with some orm o
cold cleaner.

The equipment should be cleaned at regular intervals to ensure trouble- ree
operation.
It requires only normal cleaning (sponge, damp cloth, mild detergent) and no urther
chemical additives.
