this user manua carefu y before you connect this device and start work, and operate the
device according to the recommended guide ines. The operation safety and the

this user manua . We are not iab e for any damages which occur due to inappropriate
usage or fau ty operation of this device.

3 Safety Guidelines
Configuring and operating this equipment requires precise knowledge and observance
of the instructions in this user manual. The equipment is designed on y for its intended
app ication.
WARNING:
•Servicing and repairs shou d be carried out on y by authorised specia ists.
•Before you carry out any c eaning or maintenance work, disconnect the
power p ug and prevent the motor from restarting accidenta y. You shou d
a so disconnect the water ine.
•A ways wear eye protection when working on grinding discs.
•E ectric motors have dangerous e ectrica y conducting and rotating parts
when in use. They can cause damage to hea th and property if operated
incorrect y, used for other than their intended purpose or inadequate y
serviced.
•On y qua ified specia ists shou d carry out work on the motor.
•Condensers has to be a owed to discharge comp ete y before you open
the unit.
•When working on the unit, wear c ose-fitting garments and ro s eeves
inwards on y. Do not wear g oves.
•If you have ong hair, wear some form of protection such as a hair net.
•When working with the HSS-AZ, do not wear rings, chains, brace ets or
simi ar jewe ery.
•Be sure to shut off the tap at night and over the weekend.
Make sure that the equipment is connected to the correct power source.

3.1 Potential Dangers
Risk of injury: The trimmer’s rotating parts and the grinding disc are
dangerous.
3.2 Responsibility for Operation or Damage
The responsibi ity for operating the device ies exc usive y with the owner or user if said
device is incorrect y serviced, maintained or a tered by persons not emp oyed by an
authorised dea er or if the device is used in a manner contrary to its specified purpose.
The unit has to be maintained and operated in accordance with this user manua .
Wassermann Denta -Maschinen GmbH is not responsib e for damage arising from the
nonobservance of these instructions.
Warranty and responsibi ity provisions contained in the sa es and supp y conditions of
Wassermann Denta -Maschinen GmbH are not extended by these instructions.
Responsibility for the product becomes void if alterations are made to it by
third parties or if non-approved parts are installed. Only original
WASSER ANN parts should be used. If any damage results from the
installation of a non-approved disc, responsiblity lies with the person
installing that spare disc.
If diamond grinding discs are used, serious wear will result from grinding
embedded materials and metals. We will be in no way responsible in this
case.

4 Application
The HSS-AZ p aster trimmer is used in denta aboratories and is designed exc usive y for
grinding (trimming) p aster mode s.
To prevent damage to the trimmer and/or to the b ade, it must be used on y with p aster.
On y use the device for this type of app ication.
5 Before Starting
5.1 Transport
Before transporting the unit, ensure that it has been unp ugged from the power socket.
Make sure that it is packed correct y in order to avoid accidenta damage.
Be sure to check for any transport damage when unpacking the goods. Note down
any damage if found.
5.2 Installation
Open the box, remove the packing materia s, and carefu y ift out the device and
accessories. Check the inc uded accessories.
The device has to stand horizonta y on a steady and even surface.
Insta the device in a p ace where it wi not b ock the working area and the
functiona ity (take the dimensions into account). When you set up the unit, make
sure that the grinding disc is accessib e and that the unit is c ose to the p aster
cutter or a sink.

–You wi need the high-pressure hose with the woven insert and a diameter of 1/2 inch
(13 mm) when insta ing the rinsing water hose. You use the p astic hose with a
diameter of 1 inch (25 mm) for the drain hose.
Do not insta the unit outdoors or in p aces without proper venti ation.
Before start-up, be sure the device reaches room temperature.
5.3 Storage
If the unit is to be stored, even for a short time, its ocation can have a significant effect on
its operation. The ocation shou d be dry, we -venti ated and free of vibrations. It is
important for the unit to be seated on a wooden base and to be kept at a constant
temperature. The unit has not to be stored or set up outdoors. If the unit is to be stored for
an extended period, protect it from moisture and dust.
6 Start-up/ Installation
6.1 Location
Because the trimmer operates on y with water, we recommend you insta it c ose to a tap.
The best p ace is right next to a washbasin. A further variation is to set up the trimmer on a
conso e* in the basin itse f (*avai ab e as accessory).

Before starting the unit, connect up the fo owing:
6.2 Rinsing Water Hose
Locate the rinsing water hose (thinner hose with woven insert) between the tap and the
hose connector on the trimmer. This connector is at the rear, under the motor. Use the
c amps a ready on the hose to connect it, tightening them secure y.
There shou d be a stopcock between the tap and the feed hose so the hose is not under
continuous pressure when the trimmer is not being used.
Tighten the hose clamps again about 2 days after installation.
The tap must be turned off at night and over the weekend.
6.3 Drain Hose
The drain hose must be aid out such that water can never back up in the trimmer. This
wou d cause the water to spray out through the grinding disc opening. A ways arrange the
hose in a smooth bend (not kinked) and with a permanent drop of at east 1 cm per metre.
The end of the drain hose must be above the water level of a plaster catcher.
The hose end must not be immersed in the water.
In its standard configuration, the drain-hose connection is ang ed off to the right.
Finally, insert the power p ug into the socket, making sure that the mains and the unit
operate on the same vo tage.

7 Assambly
7.1 Installing the Angled ount
The ang ed mount is inserted as required in the HSS-AZ support p ate. P ease fo ow the
guide ines be ow.
When working with the angled mount, make sure that it has been installed
correctly. It should be installed as shown in the diagram below.

8 Setting-up
The HSS-AZ p aster trimmer does not need any other support than the one described in
6.1 insta ing the ang ed mount.

9 Operation
9.1 General Operating Instructions
A instructions for using the unit, whether in verba or written form, are based on our
own experience and experimentation and can on y be regarded as guide ines.
After you switch the trimmer on, wait a few seconds for the motor to come up to
speed. On y then can you use its fu power.
Never push on the mode s so hard that the motor abours. This cou d over oad it and
cause possib e damage.
You shou d, of course, a ways work with fu y set p aster mode s, as wet p aster can
cause b ockages, especia y in drain hoses.
9.2 Water Regulation
The water supp y is regu ated at the tap. The f ow of water is sufficient if the grinding disc
is c ose to its natura co our when grinding.
When grinding, use ight pressure on y whi e moving the mode to the right and eft.

11 Care and aintenance
11.1 Cleaning
Before c eaning or servicing the unit, ensure that it is disconnected from the
mains power and cannot be switched on again accidenta y.
Keep the unit we away from water supp y.
Open the unit on y after the disc has come to a comp ete stop.
The identification p ate has a ways to be kept in easi y egib e condition and has
not to be removed.
Remove externa dirt (p aster each) from time to time with a damp c oth.
Use on y co d c eaners to avoid damaging the paintwork or removing the ettering.
The equipment shou d be c eaned at regu ar interva s to ensure troub e-free
operation.
It requires on y norma c eaning (sponge, damp c oth, mi d detergent) and no further
chemica additives.
11.2 aintenance
•The HSS-AZ p aster mode trimmer does not require any maintenance. However, if
you open the disc chamber for c eaning or to change the disc, be sure to c ean the
sea ing surfaces and coat them with a new app ication of water-inso ub e grease.
•For safety reasons, you shou d regu ar y check that the c amps on the water hose
are tight.
11.3 Repairs
Servicing or repairs to the unit has on y to be carried out by qua ified technicians.
On y origina spare parts are to be used. Responsibi ity for the product is voided
if unauthorised persons a ter it or if inappropriate components are insta ed.

11.6 Spare Grinding Discs
Spare discs are a ways supp ied with a tube of grease for sea ing the disc
chamber.
When using a spare disc, fo ow the instructions provided for changing discs.
We strong y advise against insta ing a spare disc on top of an a ready insta ed
disc, regard ess of its origin and type.
Warning!
If diamond discs are used, you wi experience extreme disc wear when grinding
embedding materia s and meta s. We assume no responsibi ity for this.
Product responsibi ity apses if the equipment is a tered by third parties or if non-
origina parts are insta ed. Use on y origina Wassermann spare parts. If damage
occurs after a “foreign disc” has been insta ed, responsibi ity ies with the person
who insta ed said spare disc.

11.7 Foil Grinding Discs
These discs can be turned around and remounted after one side has been used up, thus
a owing you to continue working. This increases disc ife considerab y.
•Loosen the turn ocks to take off the front p ate.
•Loosen the centra screw of the ax e turning it in a eft direction, whi st ho ding onto
the grinding disc very firm y.
•As and if required, oosen the push rod by putting a screwdriver behind between the
push rod and the grinding disc and take off together with the PVC disc.
•Turn the foi grinding disc.
•Set on the push rod with PVC under ay disc and screw rea y tight y.
•C ean the contact surfaces of the casing components and sea them with the grease
(supp ied with every spare-grinding disc and avai ab e as accessory) by coating with
a ine of grease on the casing component and without a owing any time to e apse.
•Put back the front p ate and make sure the turn ocks are rea y tight.
•Removing any superf uous grease.

11.9 Warranty
The warranty period for our equipment is 12 months. If fau ts occur within the
warranty period, contact your denta depot or get in touch direct y with our service
department.
Your equipment shou d on y be operated in perfect condition. If fau ts occur which
cou d harm operators or third parties, the unit shou d not be used unti it has been
fixed.
This warranty does not cover damage caused by improper use, externa mechanica
causes, transport damage or interference with the unit by unauthorized persons.

13 Disposing of the Unit
The unit has to be disposed by an authorized recyc ing operation. The se ected company
has to be informed of a possib y hea th-hazardous residues in the unit.
13.1 Information on Disposal for Countries within the EU
To conserve and protect the environment, prevent environmenta po ution and
improve the recyc ing of raw materia s, the European Commission adopted a
directive that requires the manufacturer to accept the return of e ectrica
and e ectronic units for proper disposa or recyc ing.
Within the European Union units with this symbo shou d not therefore be disposed of
in unsorted domestic waste.
