1. General information
■The instruments and software described in the operating instructions have been
designed and manufactured using state-of-the-art technology. All components
are subject to stringent quality and environmental criteria during production. Our
management systems are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
■These operating instructions contain important information on handling the
instrument. Working safely requires that all safety instructions and work instructions
are observed.
■Observe the relevant local accident prevention regulations and general safety
regulations for the instrument's range of use.
■The operating instructions are part of the product and must be kept in the immediate
vicinity of the instrument and readily accessible to skilled personnel at any time. Pass
the operating instructions on to the next operator or owner of the instrument.
■Skilled personnel must have carefully read and understood the operating instructions
prior to beginning any work.
■The general terms and conditions contained in the sales documentation shall apply.

1. General information
1.1 Description
The CPA2500 USB adapter enables the direct connection of a model CPT2500
pressure transmitter to the USB interface of a PC.
With the aid of the associated USB-ScanSoft operating and readout software or
WIKA-Cal, the settings for data logging measured values from the CPT2500 pressure
transmitter can be made. Furthermore, the recorded measured values can be
graphically displayed and evaluated.
1.2 Operating the software
This operating instructions assumes basic knowledge of operating a PC under the
Windows™ operating system. If these are not available, it is recommended to familiarize
yourself with the basics of Windows™ before installation (manuals, technical literature,
introductory courses, etc.).
1.3 Licence agreement
Subject of the Contract
Subject matter of the contract is USB-ScanSoft.
Grant of licence
■You, as the licensee, are entitled to use the included copy of the program in your
company at any place, also at several workstations, as well as to make a back-up
copy. Thus, the copyright notice of WIKA must be attached to the back-up copy.
■You, as the licensee, are not allowed to modify, translate, reconvert, decompile,
disassemble or decode the program in whole or in part as well as develop other
software derived from the program.
Ownership of rights
When purchasing the program, you will only get ownership of the CD-ROM on which the
program is stored.You will not hold the rights to the program itself. Any and all rights for
publication, reproduction, editing and usage of the program shall remain with WIKA.
Warranty and limitation of liability
■WIKA guarantees that the CDs, on which the program is stored, are faultless with
regard to the selected material under normal operating conditions. Should the data
media present any defect, the data media may be returned to WIKA within 30 days
from the date of first purchase.The data storage media will be replaced promptly and
free of charge.
■WIKA guarantees that the program is generally usable in the sense of the program
description. As it is not possible according to the state of the art to develop computer
programs that work error-free in all applications and combinations, WIKA shall not
assume any liability with regard to freedom from defects and uninterrupted operation

1. General information
of the program. In particular, WIKA does not guarantee that the program meets the
user's requirements or works together with other programs selected by the user.The
purchaser (licensee) is responsible for the correct selection and the consequences of
the program use as well as for the intended or obtained results.
■WIKA is not responsible for correct entry of values and handling of the program.
WIKA does not assume any liability for any damage due to incorrect entries,
configuration, transfer or consequences thereof. WIKA recommends to check
the correct functionality of each sensor based on the plausibility of some manual
measurements over the entire measuring range after configuration.
WIKA is liable without limitation
■Except that this damage has been caused by WIKA due to gross negligence. In this
case, WIKA shall be liable for direct personnel or property damage up to ten times
the purchase price for each liability case.
■In accordance with the provisions of product liability legislation.
■To the extent of a guarantee provided by the seller.
■For a slightly negligent breach of duty which is essential for the attainment of the
licence agreement (cardinal duty), WIKA's liability is limited to the level of damage
which is foreseeable and typical for the type of business in question.
■Any further liability of WIKA does not exist.
■The preceding limitation of liability also applies to the personal liability of WIKA's
employees, agents and managing bodies.
Duration of the contract
This contract is in force until the licensee terminates it by destroying the program and
all copies. Furthermore, it terminates when the contract terms are violated.The licensee
undertakes to destroy the program and all copies on termination of the contract.
Improvements and refinements
WIKA is entitled to make improvements and refinements of the program in its sole
discretion.
Breach of contract
WIKA points out that the licensee shall be liable for any and all damages from copyright
infringements, which are caused to WIKA due to a breach of the contract terms by the
licensee.
By opening the package, you accept the agreements.

This licence agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of
Germany to the exclusion of the UN Convention for the International Sale of Goods of
11 April 1980 (UN CISG).The place of performance is Klingenberg am Main, Germany.
The exclusive place of jurisdiction is Aschaffenburg, in the case that each party is a
merchant or corporate body under public law or has no general jurisdiction in Germany.

2.2 Description
The complete measuring unit consists of the model CPT2500 pressure sensor and the
CPA2500 USB adapter.
Through the CPA2500, the recorded pressure values can be transmitted to a PC,
notebook or similar IT devices.
The voltage supply is made via the USB interface.
The voltage supply is only output after successful initialisation of the
adapter on the PC.

3.2 Intended use
The USB pressure sensor serves for the accurate determination of the pressure
value.The measured pressure is output as an electrical signal. Only use the CPT2500
in applications that lie within its technical performance limits (e.g. max. ambient
temperature, material compatibility, ...).
For performance limits, see chapter 11 “Specifications”.
The USB interface adapter CPA2500 is used for data transfer between the model
CPT2500 USB pressure sensor and PC, notebook or similar IT devices.
The instruments have been designed and built solely for the intended use described
here, and may only be used accordingly.
The technical specifications contained in these operating instructions must be
observed. Improper handling or operation of the instrument outside of its technical
specifications requires the instrument to be taken out of service immediately and
inspected by an authorised WIKA service engineer.

3. Safety
Handle electronic precision measuring instruments with the required care (protect from
humidity, impacts, strong magnetic fields, static electricity and extreme temperatures,
do not insert any objects into the instrument or its openings). Connectors and female
connectors must be protected from contamination.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for claims of any type based on operation contrary
to the intended use.
3.3 Improper use
WARNING!
Injuries through improper use
Improper use of the instrument can lead to hazardous situations and
injuries.
▶Refrain from unauthorised modifications to the instruments.
▶Do not use the instruments within hazardous areas.
▶Do not use the CPT2500 with abrasive or viscous media.
▶Observe the operating parameters in accordance with chapter
11 “Specifications”.
▶It is forbidden to open the instruments.
▶Do not use the instruments if they are damaged. Before use, check for
visible defects.
▶Only use the accessories specified and authorized by WIKA.
CAUTION!
Damage to the instrument through incorrect pressure media
The pressure medium to be measured can lead to material damage to the
pressure sensor.
▶Check whether the material of the USB pressure sensor is suitable for
the pressure medium to be measured.
This instrument has been designed and tested in accordance with the relevant
safety regulations for electronic measuring instruments.The trouble-free function
and operational safety of the instrument can only be guaranteed if the general safety
measures and the instrument-specific safety instructions given in this operating
instructions are followed.
USB pressure sensor
■Before using the instrument, check that there are no cracks on the case or any
missing plastic parts. Pay particular attention to the insulation of the connectors.
■Pressure sensors should only be fitted or removed when the system is free from
pressure.
■
If the reference pressure sensor is used in applications with oil as a pressure medium,
make sure it is not be used with flammable material or gases directly afterwards, since
this can lead to dangerous explosions and a risk to personnel and machinery.

Interface adapter
■Before using the instruments, check that there are no cracks or missing plastic parts
on the case. Pay particular attention to the insulation of the connectors.
■Design the wiring particularly carefully when connecting to other devices (e.g. PC).
Under certain circumstances, internal connections in third-party devices (e.g. GND
connected to the ground) can lead to impermissible voltages that could compromise
or even destroy the function of the devices themselves or a device connected to it.
■Improper handling of the interface adapter can damage the adapter itself. It is also
possible that your connected instruments may be damaged.
Measuring mode
■Select the proper function and correct measuring range for the measurement.
■Always operate the USB pressure sensor within the defined pressure range.
Any use beyond or different to the intended use is considered as improper use.
Do not use this instrument in safety or emergency shutdown devices.
3.4 Responsibility of the operator
The instrument is used in the industrial sector.The operator is therefore responsible for
legal obligations regarding safety at work.
The safety instructions within these operating instructions, as well as the safety,
accident prevention and environmental protection regulations for the application area
must be maintained.
The operator is obliged to maintain the product label in a legible condition.
3.5 Personnel qualification
WARNING!
Risk of injury should qualification be insufficient
Improper handling can result in considerable injury and damage to property.
▶The activities described in these operating instructions may only be
carried out by skilled personnel who have the qualifications described
below.
Skilled personnel
Skilled personnel, authorised by the operator, are understood to be personnel
who, based on their technical training, knowledge of measurement and control
technology and on their experience and knowledge of country-specific regulations,
current standards and directives, are capable of carrying out the work described and
independently recognising potential hazards.

4.1 Transport
Check the instrument for any damage that may have been caused.
Obvious damage must be reported immediately.
CAUTION!
Damage through improper transport
With improper transport, damage to property can occur.
▶When unloading packed goods upon delivery as well as during internal
transport, proceed carefully and observe the symbols on the packaging.
▶With internal transport, observe the instructions in chapter
4.2 “Packaging and storage”.
If the instrument is transported from a cold into a warm environment, the formation of
condensation may result in instrument malfunction. Before putting it back into operation,
wait for the instrument temperature and the room temperature to equalise.
4.2 Packaging and storage
Do not remove packaging until just before mounting.
Keep the packaging as it will provide optimum protection during transport (e.g. change
in installation site, sending for repair).

Avoid exposure to the following factors:
■Direct sunlight or proximity to hot objects
■Mechanical vibration, mechanical shock (putting it down hard)
■Soot, vapour, dust and corrosive gases
■Hazardous environments, flammable atmospheres
Store the instrument in its original packaging in a location that fulfils the conditions
listed above. If the original packaging is not available, pack and store the instrument as
described below:
1. Wrap the instrument in an anti-static plastic film.
2. Place the instrument, along with the shock-absorbent material, in the packaging.
3. If stored for a prolonged period of time (more than 30 days), place a bag containing
a desiccant inside the packaging.

Only use original parts (see chapter 12 “Accessories”).
WARNING!
Physical injuries and damage to property and the environment
caused by hazardous media
Upon contact with hazardous media (e.g. oxygen, acetylene, flammable
or toxic substances), harmful media (e.g. corrosive, toxic, carcinogenic,
radioactive), and also with refrigeration plants and compressors, there is a
danger of physical injuries and damage to property and the environment.
Should a failure occur, aggressive media with extremely high temperature
and under high pressure or vacuum may be present at the instrument.
▶For these media, in addition to all standard regulations, the appropriate
existing codes or regulations must also be followed.
▶Wear the requisite protective equipment.
5.1 USB pressure sensor CPT2500
5.1.1 Mounting the CPT2500
WARNING!
Physical injury due to aggressive media, high pressures and
temperatures
When mounting, there is a danger from aggressive media, high pressures
and high medium temperature.
▶Observe the information in the material safety data sheet for the
corresponding medium.
▶Connect the USB pressure sensor once the system has been
depressurised.
▶At medium temperatures above 65 °C [149 °F] wear protective gloves.
Only use the USB pressure sensor if it is in perfect condition with respect to safety. Prior
to commissioning, the USB pressure sensor must be subjected to a visual inspection.
▶Leaking liquid is indicative of damage.

5.1.2 Requirements for mounting point
The mounting point must meet the following conditions:
■Environment corresponds to a max. pollution degree of 3.
■Humidity ≤ 80 % r. h. (non-condensing).
■Protected from weather influences.
■Sealing faces are clean and undamaged.
■Sufficient space for a safe electrical installation.
■For information on tapped holes and welding sockets, see technical information
IN 00.14 at www.wika.com.
■Permissible ambient and medium temperatures remain within the performance limits.
Consider possible restrictions on the ambient temperature range caused by mating
connector used.
■For performance limits, see chapter 11 “Specifications”.
5.1.3 Mechanical mounting
The max. torque depends on the mounting point (e.g. material and shape). If
you have any questions, please contact our application consultant.
For contact details, see chapter 1 “General information” or the back page of
the operating instructions.
1. Seal the sealing faces.
2. At the mounting point, screw the pressure transmitter in hand-tight.
⇒When screwing in, do not cross the threads.
3. Tighten with a torque wrench using the spanner flats.The maximum torque of the
CPT2500 is 50 Nm; for flush connections, 40 Nm.
5.2 Electrical connection with USB adapter CPA2500
Only model CPT2500 pressure transmitters can be used in connection with
the CPA2500 USB adapter! Using other sensors could damage both the
adapter and the sensor.
Connecting the sensors
1. Change the sensor in the depressurised state.
2. Connect the 7-pin connector to the USB pressure sensor in accordance with the
orientation guide and secure it through the connection sleeve.Turn the connection
sleeve clockwise without much force.
When connecting, the connector might not locate properly in the socket. In this
event you should try holding the connector by the bend protection, rather than by the
connector sleeve.

▶Connect the connector without tilting the threads.
⇒If the connector is positioned correctly, it can be plugged in without any
significant effort.
▶When removing the pressure sensor, do not pull on the sensor connection cable, but
only on the connector sleeve.
Replacing sensors
1. Disconnect USB adapter.
2. Change the USB pressure sensor in the depressurised state.
3. Connect USB adapter to new sensors.
4. Activate adapter via the software.
Connect the sensors before activating the adapter, otherwise they may not
be recognised correctly by the adapter.
The USB adapter has been designed so that all model CPT2500 pressure transmitters
can be connected without the need for any readjustment.
5.3 Operating mode
The associated USB-ScanSoft software is used to configure the USB pressure sensor
and record the measured values.
Adjustable parameters include:
Parameter Function
Cycle time 1 ms ... 10 sec., programmable in ms steps
Measured values
Cycle time < 5 ms The value to be recorded (measured value, min. peak, max. peak)
can be selected.
Cycle time > 5 ms A complete data set containing the following measured values is
always recorded:
■Current pressure at the time of data transfer
■Minimum pressure (min. peak) in the period of the last cycle time
■Maximum pressure (max. peak) in the period of the last cycle time
■Mean value of the pressure over the period of the last cycle time
Trigger conditions 5 for start of data logging
6 for stop of data logging
Pre-trigger 50 data sets (for cycle time > 5 ms)
200 measured values (for cycle time < 5 ms)
The measurement is started by means of a trigger condition and the instrument
then automatically outputs the measured values in the set cycle time without further
prompting until the stop condition is fulfilled.

This software is intended for use with the CPT2500 only. Several CPT2500 can be
read out and displayed simultaneously. The number of CPT2500 that can be used and
the display speed depend on the respective system. For more details, see the system
requirements.
After data logging, the data is saved to the disk and can be viewed and commented on
at any time.
6.1 Intended use
This operating instructions assumes basic knowledge of operating a PC under the
Windows™ operating system. If these are not available, it is recommended to familiarize
yourself with the basics of Windows™ before installation (manuals, technical literature,
introductory courses, etc.).
The software may only be used for its intended purpose.
6.2 First steps and installation
To use the software, the driver may need to be installed first.
6.2.1 Installing the drivers
A user account with administrator rights is required to install the device
drivers.
If you do not have these rights, log in with an appropriate account or ask
your system administrator.
Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista™ or Windows 7
If a device with the same USB chipset is already installed on your PC, the adapter will
automatically be installed when it is plugged in.
If this is not the case, you will be prompted to install the driver.
1. Insert the data medium with the driver into the drive.
2. Switch to the CD drive and select the directory with the driver data.
3. According to the operating system, start the installer for the driver from the data
medium.

4. Follow the instructions of the installation program.

5. Plug the model CPA2500 adapter into the USB port of the PC.
⇒The CPA2500 is now automatically installed with the current driver.
Through the installation of the driver, the CPT2500 USB pressure sensor, in connection
with the CPA2500 USB adapter, can be communicated with via a COM port.

6.2.2 Automatic update of the drivers
An older driver that was previously installed in the system will not be automatically
updated.
If, during the installation of the instrument, it is detected that there is already a driver that
is suitable, from the operating system's point of view, this driver is automatically used.
If problems occur when using the adapter, first make sure that the current
driver for the adapter is also being used. If necessary, the current driver
must be installed manually, see chapter 6.2.2 “Automatic update of the
drivers”)
6.2.3 Updating or deinstalling the older driver version
In order to update a driver, the “old” driver must first be deinstalled and then the new
driver installed.
Deinstalling the driver
1. Disconnect the connections to USB adapter.
2. Call up the item Software.
⇒Start \ Settings \ System control
3. Open the sub-item Connections (COM and LPT).
4. Find the entry CP210X USB to UART Bridge Controller in the program list.
5. Press [Change/Remove].
6. Confirm the deinstall warning.
⇒The deinstallation is now carried out.
7. Then acknowledge the corresponding success message.
⇒The driver is thus deinstalled for all respective USB adapters.
Reinstallation of the driver
▶The reinstallation is carried out in line with the installation instructions. Please
continue reading there at your operating system.

6.2.4 Determining the driver version used
Two installed device drivers are required to use the adapter.
■“USB-Composite Device” (for the USB device itself)
■“USB to UART Bridge Controller” (for the preparation of the COM port)
1. With the adapter plugged in, access the device manager.
⇒Start \ Settings \ System control \ System \ Hardware
2. For the USB device driver open the sub-item “USB controller”.
3. Then, by double-clicking, open the properties for the connection “CP210X USB
Composite Device”.
4. Select the sub-item Driver.
5. For the COM driver, open the sub-item “Connections (COM and LPT)”.
6. Then, by double-clicking, open the properties for the connection “CP210X USB to
UART Bridge Controller (COM x)”.
⇒Under the item Driver version, the currently
used driver version can be determined.
6.2.5 Checking the correct installation and COM port
■Is the driver installed correctly?
■Under which COM port can the newly installed adapter be addressed?
1. Access the device manager.
⇒Start \ Settings \ System control \ System \ Hardware
2. Open the sub-item Connections (COM and LPT).
If the installation was successful, the entry “CP210x USB to UART Bridge Controller
(COM x)” will be displayed.
⇒The x after the COM stands for the COM port that is now available (e.g. COM 4).
