Introduction
The Woodley Equipment Clinispin HCT portable
centrifuge, is a dedicted 4 place high speed centrifuge
for haematocrit determinations.
Installation:
1. Remove centrifuge from box and place on a sturdy level surface.
If the centrifuge appears to be damaged, please contact your
distributor immediately.
2. Verify that there are no loose objects or packing material in the
rotor or tube chamber.
3.Verify that the timer is in the ‘0’ position and plug in the AC/DC
adapter into an approved and properly grounded 240V AC outlet.
Do not insert specimen tubes at this time.
4. Turn the centrifuge on. If there is a smooth whirring sound and
the unit accelerated with little or no vibration, your Clinispin Micro
centrifuge is ready to operate. If there are loud or unusual sounds,
or if you experience excessive vibration, DO NOT OPERATE.
Contact Woodley Equipment Company Ltd.
Read the ‘Instructions for Use’ completely before operation.
Sample Preparation:
1Ensure your EDTA sample is completely mixed immediately
before use.
2 Hold the capillary tube up to sample (see fig. 1).
3 The sample will run into the capillary tube. Fill to approximately
1 cm from the top of the tube (see fig. 2).
4Holding the capillarytube towards the bottom, press it into the
tray of sealant and gently rotate it to form a plug of sealant inside
the tube (see fig. 3).
5Repeat step 4 to ensureagood seal is made (see fig. 4).

Instructions for use
1Spin only balanced loads. Make sure that capillary tubes are
placed opposite each other.
2Insert capillary tube(s) and close lid.
3 Set timer for 5 minutes - the unit will immediately begin spinning
atfull speed (11,000 rpm).
4 Do not open the lid at any time whilst the centrifuge is still
spinning - wait for the timer to stop and the audible alarm to
sound.
5 After the unit has stopped, carefully remove the capillary tubes.
NB - Wait until the rotor has stopped completely before
opening the lid.
Reading your Haematocrit results:
1 Place the reader card directly behind the tube and align the top
and bottom of the fluid (not the tube or sealant) with the 0 and
100 lines (see fig. 5).
2 The separation line between the red cells and plasma should be
read on the graph at the point of separation.
3 NB - The separation line will be at a slight angle, therefore you
must read the midpoint of the angle for an accurate percentage.
4 0 - 100 on the reader indicates a percentage (%) result. To express
the result in SI units multiply the % value by 0.01, eg 45% = 0.45
5 SAFETY - Used capillary tubes must be disposed of as clinical
waste in a sharps container.
Care & Maintenance
With proper care and maintenance the clinispin HCT centrifuge will
provide years of service.
A) Clean the inside of the centrifuge. Whenever there is a tube
breakage or spillage, it is recommended that the inside of the
centrifuge is cleaned, and if possible disinfected.
(Do not immerse the electrical components in any liquid).
B) The Clinispin HCT utilises a maintenance-free
brushless motor and its bearings are permanently
lubricated; it should not need servicing for the life of
the centrifuge. Likewise, the electrical components
weredesigned for high reliability and should not
need regular service.
