Introduction
To get the full benefit of your Truecharge's capabilities, please read
and follow the instructions in this manual, and pay particular attention
to safety instructions identified with this symbol:
Retain this manual for future reference.
The Truecharge 20i/40i is designed to charge 12 volt lead-acid
batteries including sealed, maintenance-free, and gel types. The
Truecharge 20i is best suited for batteries with capacities between
100 ampere hours and 400 ampere hours (battery sizes from 27 to
8D) and the Truecharge 40i is best suited for batteries with capacities
above 400 ampere hours (8D and larger).
The Truecharge 20i/40i has two separate DC positive terminals and
a common negative terminal to allow charging of two separate
batteries (or battery banks) of the same type. The Truecharge 20i/40i
can also perform equalization charging on flooded (non-sealed or
wet) batteries, as recommended by battery manufacturers.
Important Safety Instructions
Warning: A risk of electric shock exists inside this product.
The Truecharge 20i/40i contains no user-serviceable
components. Do not disassemble the charger: take it to a
qualified service person when service or repair is required.
ncorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electrical shock
or fire. Contact your dealer or the manufacturer for service
information.

Warning: To reduce the risk of electric shock, always
disconnect AC power from your Truecharge 20i/40i before
attempting any maintenance.
Warning: Risk of explosion. Never allow a spark or flame in
the vicinity of a battery or engine. Be sure the battery com-
partment is well ventilated.
Warning: This equipment contains components which tend
to produce arcs or sparks. To prevent fire or explosion do not
install in compartments containing batteries or flammable
materials or in locations which require ignition-protected
equipment.
Caution: Use the Truecharge 20i/40i for charging 12 V LEAD-
AC D batteries only. Do not attempt to charge a battery which
is not rated at 12 volts. Damage to the battery and/or charger
may result.
Installation
ocation:
The Truecharge 20i/40i must be installed in a location that meets the
following requirements:
1) Dry - Do not allow water or other fluids to drip or splash on the
Truecharge 20i/40i.
2) Cool - Ambient air temperature should be between 0ºC and 40ºC
3) Ventilated - Allow at least 10 cm of clearance around the
Truecharge 20i/40i for air flow. Ensure that the ventilation openings
on the unit are not obstructed.

4) Safe - Do not install the Truecharge 20i/40i in the same compartment
as batteries or flammable liquids such as gasoline.
5) Close to battery/batteries - Avoid excessive cable lengths. Use
recommended wire sizes and locate the charger as far away from
the battery as the DC cables permit. Do not install the Truecharge
20i/40i closer than 0.7 m to a battery unless it is in a separate
compartment.
Mounting:
Your Truecharge 20i/40i should be mounted securely to a vertical
surface, with the AC input at the top and the DC output at the bottom.
Mounting hardware should be size M4 (4 mm) or larger.
AC Wiring:
Warning: Shock hazard. The Truecharge 20i/40i must be
properly grounded to reduce risk of electrical shock. The AC
power supply cord and plug used must have a ground conductor
and the socket must be able to accept the plug without modi-
fication. Have an electrician install proper wiring and sockets
if they are not already installed.
Warning: Fire and shock hazard. AC wiring should only be
performed by a qualified electrician and must be done in
accordance with local electrical codes.
Warning: Risk of explosion. Connect the Truecharge 20i/40i
to AC power after connecting to the battery, and disconnect
AC input power before disconnecting from battery. This will
reduce the likelihood of sparking.
n order to connect your Truecharge 20i/40i to AC power, you will
require an approved supply cord that matches the 230 VAC

receptacle you will be connecting the charger to, and has an appliance
coupler that matches the ac inlet provided on the charger. This supply
cord must be a minimum of 0.75mm2 in conductor cross sectional
area, and be a 3-wire type having 2 live conductors plus ground
(earth).
DC Wiring:
Warning: Fire hazard. DC wiring must be in good condition
and correctly sized to prevent overheating.
Connect your DC cables to your Truecharge 20i/40i before making
any connections to the battery. Use wires that are as large in diameter
as possible and keep wiring runs as short as possible, to minimize
voltage drops and prevent overheating. The minimum wire sizes we
recommend are 5mm2 for the Truecharge 20i and 8mm2 for the
Truecharge 40i. Make sure that the polarity is correct before making
the final connection or damage to the charger may result.
Operating Instructions -
Normal Charge Cycle
1) For all batteries, carefully study and follow all of the battery
manufacturer's recharging instructions, especially specific precau-
tions such as removing or not removing cell caps while charging,
and recommended rates of charge. f you are charging a flooded
battery, add distilled water in each cell until battery acid reaches
level specified by battery manufacturer.
2) f possible, disconnect all loads from the battery.
3) Set the "BATTERY TYPE" selector switch on the Truecharge
20i/40i to the type of battery you are charging. f your battery has
removable caps that allow you to add water, it is a flooded

type, and the switch should be set to the position marked "FLOOD-
ED". f your battery is sealed, and has no caps, set the switch
to "GEL".
4) Set the "BATTERY TEMPERATURE" selector switch for the
temperature of your battery, using the following chart:
5) Apply AC power to the Truecharge 20i/40i, and the yellow
"CHARG NG" indicator will light. The green "READY" indicator
on the Truecharge 20i/40i will light when the battery is fully
charged, and ready for use.
Operating Instructions -
Equalization Charge Cycle
f you are using a flooded lead acid battery, an occasional equalization
charge may be recommended by the manufacturer. Equalization
restores the battery's maximum capacity and reduces the risk of
premature battery failure.
Precautions:
Caution: Equalization should only be performed on a flooded
lead acid battery. Do not equalize a battery unless there are
provisions to add water to the battery. Never equalize a battery
more than two times per month, and always check battery
fluid level before AND after equalization. Fill only with
D ST LLED water.

Caution: The Truecharge 20i/40i is NOT able to automatically
determine when to stop the equalization of a battery. The
battery specific gravity should be monitored throughout
equalization to determine the end of the equalize cycle.
Caution: Disconnect all loads connected to the battery during
equalization. The voltage applied to the battery during equal-
ization may be above safe levels for some loads.
Equalizing Your Batteries:
1) Follow the battery manufacturers instructions when equalizing
your flooded or wet batteries.
2) The equalization charging cycle is started by pressing the recessed
pushbutton switch marked "EQUAL ZE" on the control panel.
Press and hold the pushbutton for about 5 seconds until both the
"CHARG NG" and "READY" indicators light. The charger is
now in equalization mode.
3) Monitor the battery specific gravity during equalization with a
battery hydrometer. Equalization is complete when the specific
gravity of the battery remains constant for three hours. f equal-
ization is complete, terminate the equalization charge by momen-
tarily depressing the "EQUAL ZE" pushbutton.

IMITED WARRANTY
What does this warranty cover? This Limited Warranty is provided by Xantrex Technology,
nc. ("Xantrex") and covers defects in workmanship and materials in your Xantrex Truecharge
20i/40i. This warranty lasts for a Warranty Period of 12 months from the date of purchase
at point of sale to you, the original end user customer.
This Limited Warranty is transferable to subsequent owners but only for the unexpired
portion of the Warranty Period.
What will Xantrex do? Xantrex will, at its option, repair or replace the defective product
free of charge, provided that you notify Xantrex of the product defect within the Warranty
Period, and provided that Xantrex through inspection establishes the existence of such a
defect and that it is covered by this Limited Warranty.
Xantrex will, at its option, use new and/or reconditioned parts in performing warranty repair
and building replacement products. Xantrex reserves the right to use parts or products of
original or improved design in the repair or replacement. f Xantrex repairs or replaces a
product, its warranty continues for the remaining portion of the original Warranty Period
or 90 days from the date of the return shipment to the customer, whichever is greater. All
replaced products and all parts removed from repaired products become the property of
Xantrex.
Xantrex covers both parts and labor necessary to repair the product, and return shipment
to the customer via a Xantrex-selected non-expedited surface freight within the contiguous
United States and Canada. Alaska and Hawaii are excluded. Contact Xantrex Customer
Service for details on freight policy for return shipments outside of the contiguous United
States and Canada.
How do you get service? f your product requires troubleshooting or warranty service,

Direct returns may be performed according to the Xantrex Return Material Authorization
Policy described in your product manual. For some products, Xantrex maintains a network

n any warranty claim, dated proof of purchase must accompany the product and the product
must not have been disassembled or modified without prior written authorization by Xantrex.
Proof of purchase may be in any one of the following forms:
· The dated purchase receipt from the original purchase of the product at point of sale
to the end user, or
· The dated dealer invoice or purchase receipt showing original equipment manufacturer
(OEM) status, or
· The dated invoice or purchase receipt showing the product exchanged under warranty

What does this warranty not cover?
This Limited Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear of the product or costs related
to the removal, installation, or troubleshooting of the customer's electrical systems. This
warranty does not apply to and Xantrex will not be responsible for any defect in or damage
to:
a) the product if it has been misused, neglected, improperly installed, physically damaged
or altered, either internally or externally, or damaged from improper use or use in an
unsuitable environment;
b) the product if it has been subjected to fire, water, generalized corrosion, biological
infestations, or input voltage that creates operating conditions beyond the maximum or
minimum limits listed in the Xantrex product specifications including high input voltage
from generators and lightning strikes;
c) the product if repairs have been done to it other than by Xantrex or its authorized service
centers (hereafter "ASCs");
d) the product if it is used as a component part of a product expressly warranted by another
manufacturer;
e) the product if its original identification (trade-mark, serial number) markings have been
defaced, altered, or removed.

life support systems and Xantrex makes no warranty or representation in connection with
any use of the product for such purposes.

power supply and Xantrex makes no warranty or representation in connection with any use
of the product for such purposes.
Return Material Authorization Policy
Before returning a product directly to Xantrex you must obtain a Return Material Authorization
(RMA) number and the correct factory "Ship To" address. Products must also be shipped
prepaid. Product shipments will be refused and returned at your expense if they are
unauthorized, returned without an RMA number clearly marked on the outside of the
shipping box, if they are shipped collect, or if they are shipped to the wrong location.
When you contact Xantrex to obtain service, please have your instruction manual ready for
reference and be prepared to supply:
· The serial number of your product
· nformation about the installation and use of the unit
· nformation about the failure and/or reason for the return
· A copy of your dated proof of purchase
Return Procedure
1. Package the unit safely, preferably using the original box and packing materials. Please
ensure that your product is shipped fully insured in the original packaging or equivalent.
This warranty will not apply where the product is damaged due to improper packaging.
2. nclude the following:
· The RMA number supplied by Xantrex Technology nc clearly marked on the outside
of the box.
· A return address where the unit can be shipped. Post office boxes are not acceptable.
· A contact telephone number where you can be reached during work hours
· A brief description of the problem
3. Ship the unit prepaid to the address provided by your Xantrex customer service
representative.
If you are returning a product from outside of the USA or Canada
n addition to the above, you MUST include return freight funds and are fully responsible
for all documents, duties, tariffs, and deposits.
If you are returning a product to a Xantrex Authorized Service Center (ASC)
A Xantrex return material authorization (RMA) number is not required. However, you must
contact the ASC prior to returning the product or presenting the unit to verify any return
procedures that may apply to that particular facility.

Le chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i est conçu pour recharger les batteries
au plomb de 12 volts, y compris les modèles scellés, ceux qui ne
nécessitent aucun entretien et les batteries à électrolyte gélifié. Le
chargeur Truecharge 20i convient plus particulièrement aux batteries
dont la capacité se situe entre 100 et 400 ampères-heure (modèles

Préparatifs
Emplacement:
Le chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i doit être installé dans un endroit

1) Un endroit sec - assurez-vous qu'il n'y ait pas d'eau ou d'autre

2) Un endroit frais - assurez-vous que la température ambiante du
local se situe entre 0 et 40 degrés Celsius.
3) Un endroit bien aéré - assurez-vous qu'il y ait un espace d'au
moins 10 cm autour du chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i pour que
l'air puisse circuler librement. Veillez à ce que les orifices de
ventilation de l'appareil ne soient pas obstrués.
4) Un endroit sans danger - n'installez pas le chargeur Truecharge
20i / 40i dans un placard contenant des batteries ou des produits
inflammables tels que l'essence.
5) Un endroit pratique - n'utilisez pas de câbles trop longs. Respectez
les longueurs de câble recommandées et placez le chargeur aussi
loin possible de la batterie. Le chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i doit

Installation:
Votre chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i doit être solidement fixé sur une
surface verticale, le pôle CA vers le haut et le pôle CC vers le bas.
Les accessoires de fixation devraient être au minimum de type M4
(4 mm).
Branchement CA:
Mise en garde: risque de chocs électriques. Le chargeur
Truecharge 20i / 40i doit être correctement mis à la terre afin
de minimiser les risques de chocs électriques. La fiche et le
cordon d'alimentation en courant alternatif doivent être dotés
d'une broche et d'un fil de mise à la terre, et la prise doit
pouvoir recevoir la fiche sans avoir à être modifiée. Demandez

Mise en garde: risque d'explosion. Pour ne pas créer
d'étincelles, ne branchez le chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i sur
la prise d'alimentation en courant alternatif qu'après avoir
raccordé le chargeur à la batterie, et coupez l'alimentation
avant de débrancher le chargeur de la batterie.
Afin de pouvoir brancher votre chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i
sur une prise d'alimentation CA, vous devrez vous procurer
un cordon d'alimentation agréé qui convienne à la prise CA
de 230 volts sur laquelle vous brancherez le chargeur et qui
dispose d'un connecteur convenant à la prise CA du chargeur.
Ce cordon d'alimentation devra avoir une section transversale
(conducteurs) d'au moins 0,75 mm2 et être doté de 3 fils (2
conducteurs pouvant être mis sous tension et 1 fil de mise à
la terre).
Branchement CC:
Mise en garde: risque d'incendie. Veillez à ce que les câbles
d'alimentation en courant continu soient en bon état et à ce
qu'ils soient de la bonne taille afin d'éviter tout risque de
surchauffe. Raccordez les câbles d'alimentation CC au chargeur
Truecharge 20i / 40i avant de les brancher sur la batterie.
Utilisez des câbles dont le diamètre soit aussi large que possible
et veillez à ce que ces câbles ne soient pas trop longs afin de
minimiser les chutes de tension et d'éviter la surchauffe. Nous
vous recommandons d'utiliser des câbles d'au moins 5 mm2

Fonctionnement - cycle de charge normale
1) Quelle que soit la batterie que vous vouliez recharger, étudiez
soigneusement et respectez les instructions de charge du fabricant
de la batterie, particulièrement en ce qui concerne les bouchons
des éléments (à retirer ou non lors de la charge) et le régime de
charge recommandé. Pour les batteries dans lesquelles on peut
ajouter de l'eau distillée, remplissez chaque élément jusqu'au
moment où l'acide atteint le niveau recommandé par le fabricant
de la batterie.
2) Lorsque cela est possible, débranchez toutes les charges raccordées
à la batterie.
3) Réglez le sélecteur "BATTERY TYPE" du chargeur Truecharge
20i / 40i sur le type de batterie que vous voulez recharger. Mettez-
le en position "FLOODED" si votre batterie est dotée de bouchons
de remplissage amovibles (permettant d'ajouter de l'eau distillée)
et en position "GEL" si votre batterie est scellée et n'a pas de
bouchons de remplissage.
4) Réglez le thermostat "BATTERY TEMPERATURE" (température
de la batterie) en fonction du tableau suivant:
5) Mettez le chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i sous tension (courant
alternatif): le voyant jaune "CHARG NG" devrait alors s'allumer.
Le voyant vert "READY" s'allumera lorsque la batterie sera
complètement rechargée et prête à être utilisée.

Fonctionnement - cycle de charge d'égalisation
Si vous utilisez une batterie au plomb, le fabricant recommande
généralement une charge d'égalisation. La charge d'égalisation restaure
la capacité maximum de la batterie et limite les risques de défaillance
prématurée.
Précautions:
Mise en garde: ne procédez à une charge d'égalisation que
sur une batterie au plomb, lorsqu'il est possible d'ajouter de
l'eau distillée dans la batterie. Ne le faites pas plus de deux
fois par mois, et vérifiez toujours le niveau de liquide dans la
batterie avant ET après chaque égalisation. Ne remplissez les
éléments qu'avec de l'eau D ST LLÉE.
Mise en garde: le chargeur Truecharge 20i / 40i n'est pas en
mesure de déterminer automatiquement quand arrêter le
processus d'égalisation. La gravité spécifique de la batterie
doit être contrôlée tout au long du processus d'égalisation afin
de déterminer à quel moment il doit prendre fin.
Mise en garde: débranchez toutes les charges raccordées à la
batterie lorsque vous procédez à une charge d'égalisation, car
la tension à laquelle est soumise la batterie au cours de cette
opération pourrait dépasser certaines limites de sécurité
prescrites.
Égalisation:
1) Respectez les instructions du fabricant de la batterie quant à la
charge d'égalisation (uniquement pour les batteries au plomb où
il est possible d'ajouter de l'eau distillée).
2) Appuyez sur le bouton renfoncé "EQUAL ZE" pour mettre en
route le cycle de charge d'égalisation. Maintenez votre doigt sur
le bouton pendant environ cinq secondes jusqu'à ce que les voyants
"CHARG NG" et "READY" s'allument. Le cycle d'égalisation
commence dès que les deux voyants sont allumés.

3) Utilisez un aréomètre pour contrôler la densité spécifique de la
batterie au cours du cycle d'égalisation. L'égalisation n'est terminée
que lorsque la densité spécifique de la batterie reste constante
pendant trois heures. Lorsque le cycle est arrivé à son terme,
mettez fin à la charge d'égalisation en appuyant brièvement sur
le bouton "EQUAL ZE".
1) Garantie limitée
1.1 Que couvre cette garantie et combien de temps dure-t-elle ?
Cette garantie limitée prévue par Xantrex Technology, nc. (« Xantrex ») couvre les pièces
défectueuses et les défauts de fabrication de votre Xantrex Truecharge 20i/40i Multistage
Battery Charger pour une durée de 12 mois à compter de la date à laquelle vous, client
utilisateur final initial, avez acheté le produit au point de vente.
Cette garantie limitée est transférable aux propriétaires ultérieurs, mais uniquement pour
la période de la garantie dorigine restant à courir.
1.2 Que fera Xantrex ?
Xantrex décidera au choix de réparer ou de remplacer le produit défectueux, et ce gratuitement,
sous réserve que vous avisiez Xantrex de la défaillance du produit dans les délais stipulés
par la garantie, quil y ait confirmation de la part de Xantrex du défaut constaté lors dun
examen et que le défaut soit couvert par la présente garantie limitée.
Xantrex pourra, à son gré, utiliser des pièces neuves et/ou remises à neuf dans lexécution
des travaux de garantie ou dans la fabrication de produits de remplacement. Xantrex se
réserve le droit davoir recours à des pièces ou produits de conception dorigine ou améliorée
lors des tâches de réparation ou de remplacement. Tout produit réparé ou remplacé par
Xantrex sera garanti pour la période de la garantie dorigine restant à courir, ou pendant
90 jours à compter de la date du retour chez le client au cas où cette dernière période serait
plus longue. Tous les produits remplacés et toutes les pièces retirées des produits réparés
deviennent la propriété de Xantrex.
Xantrex couvre à la fois les pièces et la main-duvre nécessaires pour réparer le produit,
ainsi que le retour de ce dernier chez le client acheminé par voie de surface en transport
non rapide sélectionné par Xantrex dans les limites des États-Unis et du Canada, à lexclusion
de lAlaska et de Hawaii. Veuillez contacter le service clientèle de Xantrex pour plus de
détails sur la politique de transport pour les expéditions en retour en dehors des États-Unis
et du Canada.
1.3 Comment obtient-on le service ?
Si votre produit nécessite un dépannage ou un entretien en vertu de la garantie, veuillez

Les retours directs sont permis conformément à la politique dautorisation de retour de
Xantrex décrite dans le manuel de votre produit. Concernant certains produits, Xantrex
maintient un réseau de centres de services autorisés régionaux. Appelez Xantrex ou consultez
notre site Web pour voir si vous pouvez porter votre produit à faire réparer dans lun de
ces lieux.
Pour toute réclamation sous couvert de la garantie, il convient de fournir un justificatif
dachat daté et de ne pas avoir démonté ni modifié le produit sans la permission préalable
de Xantrex.
Les diverses formes de justificatif dachat sont comme suit :
·Ticket de caisse daté obtenu lors de lachat initial du produit au point de vente par
lutilisateur final
· Facture datée du revendeur ou ticket de caisse indiquant létat du constructeur OEM
· Facture datée ou ticket de caisse indiquant le produit échangé en vertu de la garantie
1.4 Quest-ce que cette garantie ne couvre pas ?
Cette garantie limitée ne couvre pas les cas dusure normale du produit ni les coûts relevant
du déplacement, de linstallation ou du dépannage du système électrique du client. Cette
garantie ne sappliquera pas et Xantrex ne sera nullement tenu responsable dans les cas de
défaillance ou dendommagement suivants :
a) Le produit a été employé à mauvais escient, négligé, mal installé, endommagé
physiquement ou modifié, de façon interne ou externe, ou endommagé par suite davoir été
mal employé ou de lavoir été dans un endroit pour lequel il nest pas fait.
b) Le produit a été lobjet dun incendie, de dégâts des eaux, dune corrosion généralisée,
dinfestations biologiques ou dune tension dentrée à lorigine de conditions de fonctionnement
dépassant les limites maximale ou minimale répertoriées dans la liste des caractéristiques
techniques du produit Xantrex, y compris la tension dentrée élevée provoquée par des
générateurs et la foudre.
c) Le produit a subi des réparations effectuées par quelquun dautre que Xantrex ou
ses antennes après-vente (ci-après « ASC »).
d) Le produit fait partie intégrante dun produit expressément garanti par un autre
fabricant.
e) Les marquages didentification dorigine du produit (marque déposée, numéro de
série) ont été effacés, altérés ou supprimés.
