• Before beginning this or any exercise program, consult a physician. This is especially important for persons
over the age of 35 or persons with pre-existing health conditions.
• Do not block the rear of the equipment. Provide a minimum of 3 1/2 feet clearance between the rear of the
equipment and any xed object.
• Keep hands away from all moving parts.
• Use handrails provided; they are for your safety.
• The pulse sensors are not medical devices. Various factors, including the user’s movement, may affect the
accuracy of heart rate readings. The pulse sensors are intended only as exercise aids in determining heart
rate trends in general.
• Do not attempt to use your equipment for any purpose other than for the purpose it is intended.
• Wear proper shoes. High heels, dress shoes, sandals or bare feet are not suitable for use on your
equipment. Quality athletic shoes are recommended to avoid leg fatigue.

Important Electrical Information
WARNING!
NEVER use a ground fault circuit interrupt (GFCI) wall outlet with this treadmill. As with any appliance with a
large motor, the GFCI will trip often. Route the power cord away from any moving part of the treadmill including
the elevation mechanism and transport wheels.
NEVER remove any cover without rst disconnecting AC power. If voltage varies by ten percent (10%) or more,
the performance of your treadmill may be affected. Such conditions are not covered under your warranty. If
you suspect the voltage is low, contact your local power company or a licensed electrician for proper testing. See
Diagnosis Guide, page 25.
NEVER expose this treadmill to rain or moisture. This product is NOT designed for use outdoors, near a pool or
spa, or in any other high humidity environment. The temperature specication is 40 degrees celsius, and
humidity is 95%, non-condensing (no water drops forming on surfaces).
Circuit breakers: Some circuit breakers used in homes are not rated for high inrush currents that can occur
when a treadmill is rst turned on or even during normal use. If your treadmill is tripping the house circuit breaker
(even though it is the proper current rating) but the circuit breaker on the treadmill itself does not trip, you will
need to replace the home breaker with a high inrush type. This is not a warranty defect. This is a condition we as
a manufacture have no ability to control. This part is available through most electrical supply stores. Examples:
Grainger part # 1D237, or available online at www.squared.com part # QO120HM.
Grounding Instructions
This product must be grounded. If the treadmill’s electrical system should malfunction or breakdown
grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current, reducing the risk of electric shock. This
product is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an
appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
DANGER - Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock.
Check with a qualied electrician or serviceman if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly
grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not t the outlet; have a proper outlet
installed by a qualied electrician.
This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated
below. A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated below may be used to connect this plug to a
2-pole receptacle as shown below if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should
be used only until a properly grounded outlet, (shown below) can be installed by a qualied electrician. The
green colored rigid ear-lug, or the like, extending from the adapter, must be connected to a permanent ground
such as a properly grounded outlet box cover. Whenever the adapter is used, it must be held in place by a metal
screw.

Important Operation Instructions
• NEVER operate this treadmill without reading and completely understanding the results of any
operational change you request from the computer.
• Understand that changes in speed and incline do not occur immediately. Set your desired speed on the
computer console and release the adjustment key. The computer will obey the command gradually.
• NEVER use your treadmill during an electrical storm. Surges may occur in your household power
supply that could damage treadmill components.
• Use caution while participating in other activities while walking on your treadmill; such as watching
television, reading, etc. These distractions may cause you to lose balance or stray from walking in the
center of the belt, which may result in serious injury.
• NEVER mount or dismount the treadmill while the belt is moving. XTERRA Fitness treadmills start with
at a very low speed and it is unnecessary to straddle the belt during start up. Simply standing on the
belt during slow acceleration is proper after you have learned to operate the unit.
• ALWAYS hold on to a handrail or hand bar while making control changes (incline, speed, etc.).
A safety tether cord is provided with this unit. It is a simple magnetic design that should be used at all times. It
is for your safety should you fall or move too far back on the tread-belt. Pulling this safety tether cord will stop
tread-belt movement.
To Use:
1. Place the magnet into position on the round portion of the console control head. Your treadmill will not start
and operate without this. Removing the magnet also secures the treadmill from unauthorized use.
2. Fasten the plastic clip onto your clothing securely to assure good holding power. Note: The magnet has
strong enough power to minimize accidental, unexpected stopping. The clip should be attached
securely to make certain it does not come off. Be familiar with its function and limitations. The
treadmill will stop, depending on speed, with a one to two step coast anytime the magnet is pulled
off the console.
Safety Tether Cord
Remove tether cord after use to prevent unauthorized treadmill operation.

Operation of Your Treadmill
TR800 Console
Power the treadmill on by plugging it into an appropriate wall outlet, then turn on the power
switch located at the front of the treadmill below the motor hood. Ensure that the safety key is
installed, as the treadmill will not operate without it.
When the power is turned on, all the lights on the display will light for a short time. Then the
Time and Distance windows will display Odometer readings for a short time. The Time win-
dow will show how many hours the treadmill has been in use and the Distance window will
show how many miles (or Kilometers if the treadmill is set to metric readings) the treadmill
has gone. Then a message will scroll across the message window showing the current soft-
ware version. The treadmill will then enter idle mode, which is the starting point for operation.
Getting Started

12
TR800 Treadmill
1. When the treadmill is running the pause feature may be utilized by pressing the red Stop
key once. This will slowly decelerate the tread-belt to a stop. The incline will go to zero
percent. The Time, Distance and Calorie readings will hold while the unit is in the pause
mode. After 5 minutes the display will reset and return to the start up screen.
2. To resume your exercise, when in Pause mode, press the Start key. The speed and in-
cline will return to their previous settings.
• Pause is executed when the Stop key is pressed once. If the Stop key is pressed a
second time, the program will end and a workout summary will be displayed. If the
Stop key is pressed a third time, the console will return to the idle mode (start up)
screen. If the Stop key is held down for more than three seconds the console
will reset.
Pause/Stop/Reset Feature
Press and release the Start key to wake display up (if not already on).
1. Press and release the Start key to wake display up (if not already on).
Note: Installing the tether key will also wake up the console.
2. Press and release the Start key to begin belt movement, at .5 mph, then adjust to the
desired speed using the Fast / Slow keys (console or hand rail). You may also use the
rapid speed key, then 0 through 9 to adjust the speed.

speed. You may also press the rapid speed key, then 0 through 9 to adjust the speed.
4. To stop the tread-belt press and release red Stop key.
Quick-Start Operation
• Incline may be adjusted anytime after belt movement.
• Press and hold the Adjust 5/6keys (console or hand rail) to achieve desired level of
effort. You may also choose a more rapid increase / decrease by selecting desired key, 0
through 9 to adjust the incline, on left hand side of console (incline) to press, rst.
• The display will indicate incline percent as adjustments are made.
• Incline will remain in it’s position when display is turned off.
Incline Feature
Sixteen rows of yellow “dots”(8 high) indicate each segment of a workout. The dots are only
to show an approximate level (speed/incline) of effort. They do not necessarily indicate a
specic value - only an approximate percent to compare levels of intensity. In Manual Opera-
tion the Speed / Incline dot matrix window will build a prole “picture” as values are changed
during a workout.
Next to the Dot Matrix window are two LEDs labeled: Speed and Incline, along with a Display
button. When the Speed LED is lit the Dot matrix displays the Speed prole and when the
Incline LED is lit the Dot Matrix displays the Incline prole. You may change the Dot Matrix
prole view by pressing the Display button. After scrolling through the two proles, by press-
ing the Display button, the Dot matrix will automatically scroll through the two displays show-
ing each one for ve seconds.
The LED associated with each prole will blink while that view is displayed. One more press
of the Display button will return you to the Speed prole.
Dot Matrix Center Display (Program Operation)

The Pulse (Heart Rate) readout will display your current heart rate in beats per minute
during the workout. You must use both stainless steel sensors on the side hand rails to
display your pulse. Pulse value displays anytime the upper display is receiving a Pulse
signal. You may not use the Grip Pulse feature while in Heart Rate Control.
Pulse Grip Feature
Displays the cumulative calories burned at any given time during your workout.
Note: This is only a rough guide used for comparison of different exercise sessions, which
cannot be used for medical purposes.
Calorie Display
1. Display will automatically turn off (go to sleep) after 30 minutes (no key operations). The
treadmill will draw very little current in sleep mode (about as much as your television when
it is turned off).
2. Remove tether cord.
3. Turn of the main switch on the front of the treadmill, below the motor cover.
You are able to set your speed and incline settings quickly by using the quick keys on the
console. Just press either Speed or Incline, then select 2 or 3 digits, then press Enter and the
treadmill will automatically adjust to that value. This saves time because you don’t have to
press and hold or hold a button down until reaching the desired value. The maximum value
you may input for speed is 12.0 mph and incline level 15. Speed values can be entered in .1
mph increments and Incline in 1.level increments.

TR800 Treadmill

The Heart Rate Programs use your treadmill’s incline system to adjust your heart rate. Increases and decreases
in elevation affect heart rate much more efciently than changes in speed. Additionally, changes in incline keep
you in control of the machine’s speed instead of the machine controlling you.
Selecting A Heart Rate Program
Both programs operate the same, the only difference is that HR1 is set to 60% and HR2 is set to 80% of the
maximum heart rate. They both are programmed the same way.
To start a HR program follow the instructions below or just select the HR1 or HR2 program, then the Enter button
and follow the directions in the Message Center.
After selecting your heart rate target, the program will attempt to keep you at or within 3 – 5 heart beats per min-
ute of this value. Follow the prompts in the Message Center to maintain your selected heart rate value.
CAUTION!
The target value used in HR-1 and HR-2 programs is a suggestion only for normal, healthy
individuals. Do not exceed your limits! You may not be able to obtain your chosen target. If
in question, enter a higher age value that will set a lower target goal.
1. Press the HRC 1-2 key once for HRC 1 (60% of max heart rate default) or twice for HRC 2
(60% of max heart rate default) then press Enter button.
2. The Message Center will ask you to enter your Age. You may enter your age, using the
Speed + / - keys, then press the Enter key to accept the new value and proceed on to the
next screen. Adjusting Age will change the Target HR value.
3. You are now asked to enter your weight. You may adjust the weight value using the
Speed + / - keys, then press Enter to continue.
4. Now you are asked to adjust the Heart Rate Target. This is the heart rate level you will
strive to maintain during the program. Adjust the level using the Speed + / - keys, then
press Enter.
5. Next is Time. You may adjust the time using the Speed + / - keys and press Enter to con-
tinue.
6. Now you are nished editing the settings and can begin your workout by pressing the
Start key. You can also go back and modify your settings by pressing the Stop key.
** Remember that you must maintain contact with the sensors or wear the chest strap for the
program to work.
Heart Rate Program Operation
NOTE: It is recommended that you use the telemetric chest strap to achieve the best results
with the heart rate programs.

TR800 Treadmill
The old motto, “no pain, no gain”, is a myth that has been overpowered by the benets of
exercising comfortably. A great deal of this success has been promoted by the use of heart rate
monitors. With the proper use of a heart rate monitor, many people nd that their usual choice of
exercise intensity was either too high or too low and exercise is much more enjoyable by
maintaining their heart rate in the desired benet range.
To determine the benet range in which you wish to train, you must rst determine your predicted
Maximum Heart Rate. This can be accomplished by using the following formula: 220 minus your
age. This will give you the predicted Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) for someone of your age. To de-
termine the effective heart rate range for specic goals you simply calculate a percentage of your
MHR. Your heart rate training zone is 50% to 90% of your maximum heart rate. Training at 60% of
your maximum heart rate is recommended for burning fat, while training at 80% of your maximum
heart rate is recommended for strengthening your cardiovascular system.
For someone who is 40 years old their
predicted target heart rate zone is calculated:
220 – 40 = 180 (maximum heart rate)
180 x .6 = 108 beats per minute
(60% of maximum)
180 X .8 = 144 beats per minute
(80% of maximum)
So for a 40 year old the training zone would be
108 to 144 beats per minute.
If you enter your age during programming the
console will perform this calculation automatically.
After calculating your MHR you can decide upon
which goal you would like to pursue.
The two most popular reasons for exercise are cardiovascular tness (training for the heart and
lungs) and weight control. The black columns on the chart above represent the MHR for a person
whose age is listed at the bottom of each column. The training heart rate, for either cardiovascular
tness or weight loss, is represented by two lines that cut diagonally through the chart. A denition
of the lines’ goal is in the bottom left-hand corner of the chart. Whether your goal is weight loss or
cardiovascular tness, it can be achieved by training between 60% and 80% of your MHR. Con-
sult your physician before participating in any exercise program.
