The XTZ 80 offers a large amount of possibilities, so in order
to utilize your new loudspeaker in the best way, you should
carefully read through this manual before using the
loudspeaker for the first time. It may take some patience in
order to ha e the loudspeaker to sound optimal. If you ha e
no pre ious experience in these kind of installation, or if you
ha e any questions, feel free to contact our free of charge
support and we will help you. (See further under the heading

Cabinet design
The XTZ 80 CENTER is a loudspeaker designed especially
for using as the centre channel in the XTZ 80 system. It
works howe er fine when used together with other front
speakers.
XTZ 80 Center is magnetically shielded so that you can
place it near a TV set without interference. The shape of the
cabinet is also optimized for placement on a shelf abo e or
below the TV set.
Apart from the shield it works just like any "normal"
loudspeaker, thus it may be used as a satellite/monitor
speaker as well. It works just as fine when standing as when
lying.
The cabinet is built in strong MDF, which pro ides good
sonic qualities.
Tweeter driver
For tweeter we ha e choosen a silk-made soft dome dri er.
This dri er ha e good qualities, such as a fast transient
response and a ery smooth frequency graph. In short: a
ery priceworthy dri er.
Midrange woofer
driver
For midrange/woofer we ha e chosen two 5 1/4” dri ers.
The dri er is in coated paper and glassfibre which yields
good sonic qualities, high strength and low weight. The low
weight of the diaphragm together with the powerful magnet
yields a ery high efficiency. The rubber suspensions along
with the quality damp has the benefit of pro iding good
sonic properties and a long life.
Crossover
We ha e choosen a –12 dB crosso er with good transient
response and a minimum of phase shiftings along with high
quality capacitors and low impedance coils. (Read more
about crosso er choice on the XTZ web page.)

Preparations
Unpacking
Carefully unpack the speaker, and pay attention so you don't
brake anything. If possible, sa e the carton box for future
transportations. If there should be a damage on the
loudspeaker, please contact your retailer.

Practice of sound Installing and placing tips
This chapter contains common information on
loudspeaker placement and installation.
In which
room do you
achieve the
best sound?
No matter how good the equipment is, in the wrong
listening en ironment it will ine itably sound bad.
There are some basic rules concerning a proper
loudspeaker installation:
Reflections
Carpets, curtains and soft furniture absorbs mid
range and high frequency sound, and this is
preferable. Big empty area, on the contrary, reflects
it and produces a hard sound that may lead to a
blurry dialogue. Apart from coloring the sound, also
the perspecti e of the sound will deteriorate.
Reflections in the room can roughly be compared to
the reflections that yield ghost pictures on a TV
screen.
Amplification
of bass
frequencies
A loudspeaker that is placed near a wall, ceiling or
floor will be amplified in the lower frequencies in a
sometimes not desirable way (since it may lead to
an indistinct sound recreation). This amplification
becomes e en more ob ious if the loudspeaker is
placed near a corner. Thus, for a sound as clear as
possible, the loudspeaker should be placed at least
30 cm (about 12 inch) away from the wall.
Furniture
Be aware that furniture may ibrate and thus create
bad sound at loud bass.
Room
dimension
Quadratic rooms or rooms where the length is
exactly twice as long as the width should be
a oided, since they may create unwanted
resonance.
Placement of
the
loudspeakers
How the loudspeakers are placed towards the
listener is of great importance.
The front
speakers
For stereo listening the loudspeakers should be
placed symmetrically in front of the listener. The
distance between the loudspeakers should be about
80% of the distance between the listener and one
loudspeaker, or put in another way: the angle
between the loudspeakers, as seen from the listener,
should be about 45 degrees. This means for
example that if the distance between the
loudspeakers is 2 meters, the listener should be
placed 2,5 meters from the loudspeakers.
Angling?
Either you can ha e the loudspeakers angled in
towards the listener or you can ha e them directed
straight ahead. Some loudspeakers sounds better

Mounting and connecting tips
Mounting
alternatives
The XTZ 80 CENTER can be mounted both on a wall, on
stands or on a shelf.
The bass reflex gate is placed on the rear, so when mounting
the speaker near a wall you should use the two supplied bass
plugs in the bass reflex gates in order to a oid blowing
sound.
Apart from the shield it works just like any "normal"
loudspeaker, thus it may be used as a satellite/monitor
speaker as well. It works just as fine when standing as when
lying down.
Connect using
the correct
phase
Always connect using the correct phase, from the +-pole on
the amplifier to the +-pole on the loudspeaker and
corresponding for minus (-).
If you by accident connect the other way,
there is no risk of damage. Howe er, the
sound will not be correct, especially in the
lower frequencies.
Working range
When connected normally you utilize the whole frequency
range of the loudspeaker. If you wish the bass tones only to
be reproduced by a powered subwoofer, thus that the center
speaker should only reproduce midrange and treble tones,
you should make sure that the amplifier remo es the bass
tones. On modern amplifiers/recei ers you normally ha e
the possibility of setting the loudspeaker as small or big. If
present, you should set them to small.
Overload
At high load during extensi e time periods, there is always
the risk of o erloading the dri er and amplifier.
All loudspeakers ha e a limited patience for
high power, so be careful not to play
extremely loud and not to increase trebble
or bass settings to much.
By increasing the bass or treble from 0 to
max you will increase the power by about 16
times.
The initial
playing time
It takes about 50 to 100 hour of initial playing time, for the
dri er to sound optimal. During this time, the speaker may
be normally used.

Sound settings
Room-Tuning
Unfortunately normal rooms are often not perfect from a
sonic point of iew. This can be heard in the appearance of
"standing wa es" which yields an une en balance in the tone.
This means that the bass may sound ery different from one
room to another.
By using the supplied bass plugs in the bass reflex gates, you
can alter the sonic characteristics of the woofer.
The plugs are mounted in the bass reflex gates.
Without any plugs present:
This mode pro ides a tight bass.
With both plugs in both gates:
This will pro ide a less deep bass with a more mellow tone.
With one plug in any gate:
This will pro ide a deeper bass with a more neutral tone.
You will ha e to be patient when testing out the optimal
adjustments for your own room and taste. Also ha e in mind
that the placement in the room is of great importance.

Service & support
"Do-It-Yourself"-service
We apply "do-it-yourself" ser ice on all XTZ products.
If you by yourself are able to find out what part of the
loudspeaker is defecti e, you are fully allowed to
unmount that part (which would normally be a dri er,
a filter or the amplifier) and send it back to us for
exchange.
Howe er, if you are not certain about how to do it,
please contact us before taking the loudspeaker apart.
We can also help you finding the fault.
You can of course always choose to return the whole
loudspeaker, therefore you should sa e the original
package.
To aid ser ice, XTZ are constructed and
produced using common technology, so
that basically most people are able to
"unscrew" the loudspeaker using
common tools.
If something is broken
If you cause additional defects by yourself when
unmounting the defecti e part, the warranty still
applies if it is ob ious that the part had a
manufacturing defect. In other cases howe er, the
warranty does not apply if you cause other defects on
the loudsspeaker.
