Distance to back
and side walls
If a loudspeaker is pla ed near a wall, eiling or floor the lower frequen ies will be amplified by the room.
Sometimes this is desirable, sometimes not (it may lead to indistin t bass reprodu tion).
The bass amplifi ation be omes more obvious if the speaker is pla ed near a orner. Thus, for a lear
sound the speaker should be pla ed at least 20 m (about 8 in hes) away from the wall. However, there are
ex eptions room this rule. For some types of walls/rooms it may be an advantage pla ing the loudspeaker
loser to the wall. The Spirit 2 is designed to work hanging on a wall.
Room and furniture
influence
The sound quality of any loudspeaker is influen ed by the furniture, wall materials and other obje ts in the
listening room. For example, large rooms without mu h furniture and many lean, hard wall surfa es an
give a bright and diffuse sound with diverse e hoing frequen ies. A room with thi k arpet, urtains and soft
furniture surfa es will give a warmer and darker sound.
Multi-Channel
Setup
XTZ loudspeakers are designed to offer the most advan ed performan e in both stereo and multi- hannel
appli ations. When onne ting a loudspeaker to a multi- hannel setup, in general the same guidelines as
mentioned in the text above will apply.
Note When setting up a home theatre system, the loudspeakers should reate a realisti sound stage with similar
sound hara teristi s on ea h hannel. It is therefore important that all speakers should mat h the same
quality level. This is espe ially important with regards to the enter hannel loudspeaker, as this is the most
riti al aspe t of any multi hannel sound stage.
Loudspeakers for
multi-channel
setups
For a multi- hannel setup, in addition to the two main (stereo) loudspeakers, additional hannels (speakers)
may be added to reprodu e dialogue and surround effe ts. With the enter hannel and ompa t models, it
is possible to a hieve the same high level of performan e and sound on every hannel.
Center speaker The enter speaker is responsible for the information dire ted from the middle of the s reen and should
be positioned between the right and left main loudspeakers. In a home theater/surround setup, the enter
supports the images and should be pla ed lose to the s reen.
