Cabinet design
The box design with a na ow baffle and cu ved
side -
is not only an aesthetically neat shape, but
also has some advantages in te ms of acoustics,
since nonpa allel walls muffles inte nal esonances
of the cabinet.
Inte nally
the cabinet is physically sepa ated in two
pa ts, one fo the mid ange and tweete , and one
fo the woofe . This makes it possible to optimize
the cabinet volume fo the woofe .
It also lets the mid ange d ive to accomplish the
best possible sound withou
t being inte fe ed f om
the woofe . The inte nal boxes have non-
pa allel
walls.
The cabinet is made in stu dy MDF boa d, which
has good sonic qualities.
The cabinet is fu the st engthened with ba s,
which in total yields a ve y stable const uction
and
to b eak up standing waves.
Both boxes a e filled with a combination of mine al
wool and synthetic damping mate ial, to effectively
educe inte nal esonances in the box.
Tweeter dri er
We have chosen a ibbon tweete which p ovides
supe io t ansient esponse and a ve y flat
f equency esponse The ibbon cone is supe light
and only 18 mic ons thin. It is a sandwich
const uction of osin-aluminium- osin that has
been ha dened at 320 deg ees Celsius.
The magnet system is a 2 ow high-efficient
neodymium magnets in a moulded chassis of
ce amic ca bon steel.
Fishbone shaped contacto s in aluminium, yields a
low connection esistance and good heat
de ivation.
The d ive has high powe du ability and handles
f equencies up to 40000 Hz which makes it DVD-
Audio and SACD- eady.
Woofer/midrange
dri er
Afte evaluating a la ge numbe of d ive s f om
diffe ent manufactu e s we selected one f om Seas,
a company that has a solid eputation in the a ea of
high quality speake d ive s. You find Seas d ive s
in many well-known High End speake s.
Fo woofe /mid ange we decided on a 6,5"
magnesium d ive f om the Seas Excel se ies that
have ext eme pe fo mance. We claim that finding a
bette 6,5" d ive on the ma ket is a ve y difficult
task.
The su face t eated magnesium cone is ext emely
light but still ext emely stiff and effectively educes
esonances.
The ubbe su ound makes su e that no edge
esonances a e p esent.
The moulded metal basket of "high flow" type that
is acoustically t anspa ent and high p ecision since
the basket is shaped exactly due to moulding. This

makes su e that the basket is ve y stable and
efficiently educes esonances. The basket is
absolutely none magnetically, which cont ibutes to
a highe efficiency of the d ive .
A st ong magnet combined with the light cone
yields a high efficiency and a good t ansient
esponse.
Heavy coppe ings mounted above and below the
T-shaped pole piece educes non linea and
modulation disto tion and inc eases the ove load
ma gin.
The coppe plating of the top and bottom plates
along with a solid coppe phase plug imp oves the
heat conduction and thus cont ibutes to the high
powe du ability.
Gold plated te minals educe contact esistance
and se ves as anti-co osion.
La ge windows in the ba
sket both above and below
the spide educes sound eflection, ai flow noise
and cavity esonances.
Woofer dri er
Also fo the bass egiste we selected a SEAS d ive
of the type coated pape , a ve y well-t ied type with
an unbeatable elation between p ice/pe fo mance.
The coated pape cone is ext emely light but still
ext emely stiff and effectively educes esonances.
The ubbe su ound makes su e that no edge
esonances a e p esent.

Binding post
Fo the 99.38, we have chosen to have an exte nal
c oss ove box. Having the c oss ove outside the
box has some benefits.
1. Less affection of mic ophonic in the c oss
ove .
2. Making the assembly easie and
having the oppo tunity to d ive the
speake fully active.
The components being used in the c oss ove , a e
only of high quality, to get as small affection as
possible on the signal

Page: 6
Fo the mid ange and tweete we have chosen a -12
dB c ossove that has a fast t ansient esponse and
a minimum of phase shiftings.
Fo the woofe we have chosen a 24dB c ossove .
The connecto s a e gold-plated and of bi-wi ing
type so that you can connect to the amplifie with
double cables (t i-wi ing), o connect to two
amplifie s (t i-amping) fo fu the imp oving the
sound.
Preparations
Unpackning
Ca efully unpack the speake , and pay attention so
you don't b eak anything. If possible, save the

Practice of sound / Installation and placement tips
This chapte contains common info mation on
loudspeake placement and installation.
This is gene al ules, so the e a e exceptions of
some ules
In which room do
you achie e the best
sound?
No matte how good the equipment is, in the w ong
l
istening envi onment it will inevitably sound bad.
The e a e some basic ules conce ning a p ope
loudspeake installation:
Reflections
Ca pets, cu tains and soft fu nitu e abso b mid
ange and high f equency sound, and this is
p efe able. Big em
pty a ea, on the cont a y, eflects
it and p oduces ha d eflections that may lead to
blu y dialogue. Apa t f om colou ing the sound,
also the pe spective of the sound will dete io ate.
Reflections in the oom can oughly be compa ed to
the eflections th
at yield ghost pictu es on a TV
sc een.
Amplification of bass
frequencies
A loudspeake that is placed nea a wall, ceiling o
floo will amplify lowe f equencies in a sometimes
not desi able way (since it may lead to an indistinct
sound ec eati
on). This amplification becomes even
mo e obvious if the loudspeake is placed nea a
co ne . Thus, fo a sound as clea as possible, the
loudspeake should be placed at least 30 cm (about
12 inch) away f om the wall
Some const uctions a e made to be place
d closed to
a wall.
Furniture
Be awa e that fu nitu e may vib ate and thus c eate
bad sound at loud bass.
Room dimension
Quad atic ooms o ooms whe e the length is
exactly twice as long as the width should be
avoided, since they may c
eate unwanted
esonance.
Placement of the
subwoofer
The placement of the subwoofe in the oom
d amatically affects the ove all f equency esponse
and sound level of the system. At low f equencies
the effect of the oom is st ong. Even a slight
c
hange in the subwoofe 's location can make a
significant diffe ence in the f equency balance.
Patience and methodical expe imentation is needed
to find an optimal placement. The placement
affects the phase diffe ence between the main
loudspeake s and the subwoofe .
One basic ule is to place the subwoofe togethe
with o nea the f ont system (especially impo tant
if the f ont loudspeake also p opagate bass
f equencies) as this will minimize the isk of phase
eliminations in the oom.

Page: 8
Cables
T
y to keep them as sho t as possible. By its
elect ical pa amete s, a long conducto will have a
bigge influence on the sound than a sho t one. It
may also wo k as an antenna and thus eceive
va ious signals that may become a constant noise in
an active subwoofe .
Make su e that all connections a e clean and not
oxidized. All connections should be mechanically
stable, both powe , signal and loudspeake cables.
Signal cables should be sepa ated f om othe
cables.
Front speakers
To get the best esu
lt the f ont speake s should be
placed symmet ical in f ont of the listene . The
distance between the f ont speake s should be
a ound 80% of the distance to the listene . In othe
wo ds, the ecommended angle between the f ont
speake s should be 45°.
Why use 2
Subwoofer
The e a e mo e then one
benefits of having 2
subwoofe s instead of one.
The sound p essu e level will be highe .
Less dips and standing waves in the oom and a
bette f equency esponse in the oom (and on
sweet spot)
The need of
powe is less, to each the same SPL as
with one subwoofe
Finally
Please emembe that good sound is a matte of
taste, so you have to expe iment to obtain you
favou ite one.
We wish you best of luck!

Mounting and Connecting tips
Mounting
alternati es
No mally the XTZ 99.38
is placed standing by a
wall. The wall
behind and besides the loudspeake
have influence both on the
bass level and the bass
cha acte istics, so please be patient and
t y
diffe ent distances to the ea and side walls.
Connect using the
correct phase
Always connect using the co ect phase, f om the
+-pole on the amplifie to the +-
pole on the
loudspeake and co esponding fo minus (-).
If you by accident connect the othe way,
the e is no isk of damage.
Howeve , the
sound will not be co ect, especially in the
lowe f equencies.
O erload
At high load du ing extensive time pe iods, the e is
always the isk of ove loading the d ive and
amplifie .
All loudspeake s have a limited patience
fo high po
we , so be ca eful not to play
ext emely loud and not to inc ease t eble
o bass settings to much.
By inc easing the bass o t eble f om 0 to
max you will inc ease the powe by about
16 times.
The initial playing
time
It takes about 50 to 100 hou of
initial playing time,
fo the d ive to sound optimal. Du ing this time,
the speake may be used no mally.

Room Tuning -
Mechanical
adjustment of the
boundary frequency
By using the supplied bass plugs in the bass eflex
gates, you can alte the lowe bounda y f equency
on the XTZ 99.38
The level can be adjusted in 6 diffe ent levels in the
bass ange.
Also the t eble level may be adjusted, which allows
you to pe fectly alte the sonic to fit the oom,
equipment and you own taste.
The speake is pa ted in two bass eflex chambe s,
one fo the mid ange / woofe d ive and one fo
the woofe . The uppe most gate is fo the
mid ange/woofe while the two lowe most gates
a e fo the woofe .
The figu e below illust ates th ee basic settings.
Deep bass
With one bass plugs in lowe of the two lowe gates
you have the deepest possible bass, which may be
suitable fo smalle ooms.
This is unde the condition that the bass level is set
at mode 2 (+3dB)
"Quick" bass
Without bass eflex plugs in the gates, you have a
"quick" bass which is especially suitable fo la ge
ooms whe e the lowe f equencies often a e
amplified by the oom.
Neutral bass
With two plugs in two gates you have a flat
f equency esponse.
This is unde the condition that the bass level is set
at mode 1 (0dB)
This setting also depends on the size and
shape of the oom, and also on you own
taste, so please has patience when t ying
out you p efe ed setting.
This schematic pictu e (which does not shown actual measu ed cu ves) elucidates the diffe ent sonic cha acte istics of the bass f equencies.

Page: 11
Basic setting for
neutral bass
reproduction
Since the acoustics is dete mined by a wide ange
of exte nal facto s the e exists no single neut al
setting that will wo k p ope ly fo all cases.
Exte nal facto s that have influence on the sound
include the oom, the placing, output levels etc.
One basic neut al setting fo an ave age oom of
20m
2
is:
Two bass plugs in two of the two lowe most gates
and one plug in the gate fo mid ange.
Bass level set at mode 1 (0dB)
T eble level set at mode 1 (0dB)
Le el adjustment in
the treble range
In the t e
ble ange the level is adjustable in fou
diffe ent modes using the supplied loop connecto .
Level adjustment in the t eble ange:
Mode 1/ 0dB
In this mode the sound is neut al with a
flat f equency esponse.
Mode 2/ +3dB
In this mode the t eble level is inc ease by 3dB.
Mode 3/ -2dB
In this mode the t eble level is dec eased by 2dB.
Mode 4/ -4dB
In this mode the t eble level is dec eased by 4dB.
In the bass ange the level is adjustable in fou
diffe ent modes using the supplied loop connecto .
Level adjustment in the bass ange:
Mode 1/ 0dB
In this mode the sound is neut al with a flat
f equency esponse.
Mode 2/ +3dB
In this mode the bass level is inc ease by 3dB
