4 Mounting
4.1 General notes
Attention!
The following points must be complied with during the mechanical installation to avoid causing a defect
in the device due to assembly errors or environmental influences:
•Before installation remove the device from the packing and check for any possible shipping
damage!
•Assemble the device on a clean and stable base. Do not distort during assembly! Use the
appropriate mounting devices for proper installation of the unit!
•Do not mount equipment on vibrating base!
•When mounted onto lightweight walls, there must be no impermissibly high vibrations or shock
loads. Any banging shut of doors that are integrated into these lightweight walls, can result in
extremely high shock loads. Therefore, we advise you to decouple the devices from the wall.
•Do not allow drilling chips, screws and other foreign bodies to reach the device interior!
•The device should be installed in a location where it will not be disturbed, but at the same time can
be easily accessed!
•Depending on the housing model use supplied stoppers for cable inlets, cut off necessary cable
inlets respectively to the cable diameter. Or alternative use cable inlet for cable glands. Any cable
ducts openings not used must be sealed!
•Care must be taken to avoid direct radiation from the sun!
•The device is designed for vertical installation (cable inlet down). A horizontal or reclined installation
is only permissible after technical release of the manufacturer!
•Be sure to observe proper heat dissipation (
Technical data, heat dissipation).
4.2 Minimum space requirement
In order to ensure sufficient ventilation of the device, clearance on all sides of at least 50 mm has to
be maintained to the housing walls, switch cabinet doors, wiring ducts, etc. The same clearance
applies to the installation of several devices next to each other.
When installing several devices on top of each other, the danger of reciprocal heating exists. This
layout is only then permissible when the air suctioned from the upper unit does not become warmer
than the permissible ambient temperature (
Technical data). I.e., a correspondingly larger clearance
or thermal shielding is required.

Outdoor installation is possible up to -20 °C when the controller supply is not switched off. Installation
must be protected from the effects of weather as much as possible, including protection from direct
sunlight!
4.4 Installation location for agriculture
When using for animal keeping, do not install the device directly in the stable but in a separate room
with a lower pollutant load. This helps to avoid damages caused by pollutant gases (e.g. ammonia
fumes, hydrogen sulphide fumes).
4.5 Temperature influences during commissioning
Avoid condensation in the controller and functional faults attributable to condensation by storing the
controller at room temperature!
4.6 Mounting the two fresh air temperature sensors type TFR
Please note the following when mounting the two sensors to measure the supply air temperature:
1. Mount the sensors as far apart as possible, whereby the temperature difference between the
two measuring points should be as low as possible.
2. To avoid extreme temperature peaks, these are not mounted outdoors unprotected but in the
ante-room through which the fresh air is usually drawn.
5 Electrical installation

5.9 Alarm signal relay e.g. for telephone dialling device
The ALARMcon has a relay for the fault message via potential-free contacts (max. contact load
Technical data).
•If there is an alarm message, the relay pulls up, i.e. the terminals “11” and “14” are bridged.
•The replay drops out in case of a fault, i.e. the terminals “11” and “12” are bridged.
Information
The delay times set in the “ALARMcon Setup” are taken into consideration in fault indication!
5.10 Connection of data link via interface RS485 BUS 1
The interface RS485 BUS 1 serves to connect the temperature sensor add-on modules of type ZTG-
8L and for ventilation computers type: CTE/AH(X)-L, PTE-6/10AHQ(X)-L, FTET4/6/10AHMQ-L.
The data link is connected to the terminals “D+”, “D-” and “GND”.

Information
Max. 32 ventilation computers (or 16 ventilation computers with 2 sensors each) can be connected to
the ALARMcon via the data bus. The ALARMcon is the “Master”. The “Master” automatically has the
address 1.
In networked ventilation computers the previous Master is reprogrammed to "Master with Gateway
function" (Master mode 2).
The “RS485 BUS 2” interface is designed for the connection of additional devices.

5.11 Control cables
Pay attention to sufficient distance from powerlines and motor wires to prevent interferences. The
control cable may not be longer than 30 m. Screened control cables must be used when the cable
length is longer than 20 m. When using a shielded cable connect the shielding to one side only, i.e.
only to the control unit with the protective ground (keep cable short and with as little inductance as
possible!).
5.12 Potential at control voltage connections
The control voltage connections (< 50 V) relate to the joint GND potential (Exception: Relay contacts
are potential free). There is a potential separation between the control voltage connections and the
protective earth. It must be ensured that the maximum external voltage at the control voltage
connections cannot exceed 50 V (between “GND” terminals and “PE” protective earth). If necessary, a
connection to the protective earth potential can be established, install bridge between “GND” terminal
and the “PE” connection (terminal for screening).
6 The internal accumulator for line substitute supply of the alarm
device
A high quality lead accumulator is installed for the energy supply to the alarm device. This automati-
cally takes over operation of the device without interruption in case of faults in the main supply. This
accumulator enables uninterrupted operation of the alarm device for at least 2 hours.
When mains power is available, the accumulator is charged constantly to keep maximum capacity
available at all times. At the same time the state of the accumulator is monitored and signalled
accordingly in the event of a fault.
In the as-delivered state of the ALARMcon the accumulator is fully charged and has a self-discharge
of only 3 % per month as specified by the manufacturer. To prevent discharging due to own
consumption of the ALARMcon, the accumulator is not switched on in the as-delivered state!
6.1 Switch on the accumulator before start-up
Danger due to electric current
•Do not remove the housing cover under voltage, observe the safety instructions!
•Caution: Never short-circuit the connection terminals of the accumulator!
•Only use accumulators approved by ZIEHL-ABEGG for this device!
Information
•The accumulator must be switched on before starting the device. The switch is accessible after
removing the connection cover.
•Since we have no influence over the storage duration before start-up, a safe mains substitute
supply can only be guaranteed after sufficient supply duration with mains voltage despite the low
self-discharge.
•Caution: Make sure the new accumulator is connected with the correct polarity!

6.2 Replacement of the accumulator, accumulator life and operational reliability
A reliable emergency power supply by the accumulator is very important for the reliability of the alarm
system. To ensure this, it is imperative to replace the accumulator every 2 years.
When starting up the device in the system for the first time, the life of 2 years must be started after
switching on the accumulator. This must be done by an appropriate PIN Code 7071 in the Info menu.
After 2 years, the message “Replace accumulator”appears alternately with the standard display of the
supply air temperature.
Danger due to electric current
•Do not remove the housing cover under voltage, observe the safety instructions!
•Caution: Never short-circuit the connection terminals of the accumulator!
•Only use accumulators approved by ZIEHL-ABEGG for this device!
