Switchoff your phone before installingor replacing the battery,SIM
card ormicroSD card* (optional accessory)

slipit intothecardholder.

4.Hold yourmicroSD card(optional)withthemetalcontacts
facingdownand slide itin.
5.Insertthebatterybyaligning thegoldcontacts onthebattery
withthegoldcontacts inthebatterycompartment. Gently
pushdownon thebatteryuntilit clicks intoplace.
6.Press thecover gentlyback intoplaceuntilyouhearaclick.

ChargingtheBattery
Whenyoufirst getyournewphoneyou’ll needtochargethe
battery.
1.Insertthechargerleadcarefully.Ensure thatthe plugis
insertedwiththe correctorientation.Donotforcethe
connectorintothecharger jack.
2.ConnectthechargertoastandardACwall outlet.
3.Disconnectthechargerwhen thebattery is fully charged.
Howmuchchargehave you got?
If thebatteryislow, therewill be apop-upmessageonthe
screen.As youchargeyourphone,the screenwill tellyouthe
exact batteryleveleachtimeyou wakeupyourphone.
Ifthephoneis on, you’llseethechargingicon /
on thestatus
bar.

BatteryandCharging Tips
•OnlyusetheACchargerandUSBlead supplied.Insertthe
chargerleadcarefully.
•
Be carefultoavoidtrippingoverorpullingontheleadwhilst it
ispluggedin.
•Physicaldamagetothechargingport isNOT coveredby
warranty.
•The phonecanalsobecharged by connectingit toa
computerusingtheUSBleadsupplied.
•Avoidhightemperaturesand directsunlight.Thebatterywill
notchargeabove45°C
•Donotleavethe batteryinadischarged state.Chargethe
batterypromptlywhen flat.
•Keepyourhandset cool.Hightemperaturesdegradethe
batterymorequickly.
•Normalchargetimeis3-4hours.Donotleaveonchargefor
morethan24hrs.
•After2-
3charge/dischargecycles thebatterylifewill improve.
Fromthenonusetopupcharging torechargefrequentlyand
always chargepromptlywhen flat.
•Whennotusingthephoneforlongperiodschargetoapprox
40%andremovethebattery.
•Withpoornetworkconditions(less than 2bars)batterylifeis
reduced,turnoffBluetoothandWi-Fiwhen notinuseto
extendbatterylife.

Powering On/Off
MakesuretheSIM cardisinyourdeviceandthebatteryis
charged.
•Press andholdthe Power Key toturnonyourphone.
•Toturnitoff,press andhold the PowerKey toopenthe
options menu.Touch Poweroff and thentouch OK.
SettingUp fortheFirstTime
Whenyoufirst power onyourphoneafterpurchaseoraresetit
factory settings (see Settings–Personal –Backup andReset),
you need toentersomesettingsbefore use.
1.Touchthelanguagefieldtoselectthelanguageyouwant to
useandthentouch Start.
2.Touch Getanaccount tocreateaGoogleAccountortouch
Sign in tosigninyourexistingaccount,or skiptoperform
later.
3.Configurethedateandtimeoptions,andtouch Next.
You canalsotouch Notnow tosetupanaccountlater.
4.ConfiguretheGoogle locationoptionsandtouch Next.
5.Enteryournamewhichthephoneusestopersonalisesome
appsandtouch Next.
6.You will be promptedtoacceptthe terms ofGoogleservice.
Touch Next tocontinue.
7.Touch Finish tocompletethesetup.

Locking/Unlocking yourphone
Yourphone allows you toquicklylockthescreenandkeyswhen
notinuseandtoturnthescreenbackon when youneedit.
To lockthescreenand keys:
Press the PowerKey toturnthescreen offandlockthekeys,
NOTE: Tosavebatterypower,thephoneautomatically turnsoff
thescreenafter acertainperiodoftimewhen you leaveitidle.
Reviewthis settingat Settings–Display–Sleep.
You canstillreceivemessagesandcallswhile thephonescreen
isoff.
To unlock thescreen and keys:
1.Press the PowerKey toturnthescreen on.
2.Press andholdthe unlockbuttontounlock the screen.
3.You canalsopinchoutorslideontheunlock buttontounlock
thehandsetandgo directly tothefunctionsshown:
NOTE: Ifyouhavesetan unlockpattern,
PIN or password foryour phone(see
chapter Settings–Personal–Security),
you’ll needtodrawthe patternorenter the
PIN/password tounlockyourscreen.

Using theTouch Screen
Yourphone’stouchscreenlets youcontrolactionsthrougha
varietyof touchgestures.
•Touch
Whenyouwant totypeusingtheonscreenkeyboard,select
items,orpress onscreenbuttons, simplytouchthemwith
your finger.
•TouchandHold
Toopentheavailableoptions foranitem(forexample,a
messageorlinkinaWebpage),touchandhold theitem.
•Swipe or Slide
Toswipe orslidemeanstoquicklydrag yourfinger vertically
or horizontally across thescreen.
•Drag
Todrag,press andhold your fingerwithsomepressure
before youstarttomoveyourfinger. Whiledragging,do not
releaseyourfingeruntilyouhavereachedthetargetposition.
•Pinch
Insomeapps (suchas Maps,Browser, and Gallery),youcan
zoom inandoutby placingtwofingersonthe screen atonce
and pinchingthemtogether(tozoomout)orspreadingthem
apart(tozoomin).
•Rotatethephonetochangefromportraittolandscape.

The homescreenisthe startingpointforyourphone’s
applications,functions, andmenus.You cancustomizeyour
homescreenbyaddingapplicationicons,shortcuts, folders,
widgets,andmore.Yourhomescreenextendsbeyondtheinitial
screen.Swipe thescreenleftorrighttodisplayadditional
screens.

Yourhomescreenextendsbeyondthe initial screen,providing
more spacetoaddicons, widgets, and more.Simplyswipe left or
rightonthescreentoseetheextended HomeScreens.
To add or removeanextendedHome Screen:
1.Touchthe HomeKey toreturn totheHomeScreen.
2.Touchthe Menu Key >Personalisation >Screen edit.
3.Touch toaddmoreextendedHomeScreens.
Touch onathumbnail toremoveascreen.
To adjust theplaceofanextendedHome Screen:
1.Touchthe HomeKey toreturn totheHomeScreen.
2.Touchthe Menu Key >Personalization >Screen edit.
3.Touchandholdathumbnailanddragittotheplaceyou
need.

Language& input>Language.

2.Clearthe Automaticdate&time and Automatictimezone
checkboxes ifyou wanttosetthedate,timeandtimezone
yourself.
3.Setthedate,time,timezone,anddate/timeformat.
ChangingRingtoneand Notification
Sounds
You cancustomisetheringtonefor incoming callsanddefault
notificationsoundquickly.
1.Touchthe HomeKey >Menu Key>Personalisation.
2.Scroll downfor Phoneringtone or Notification ringtone.
3.Scroll throughtheringtone list andselect theringtoneyou
want touse.
4.Touch OK.
NOTE: Toadjustthe ringtone for anindividualcaller, goto
thatperson'scontact card inthe People app,touchthe
Menu
Key>Set ringtone for thatcard.

Adjusting Volumes
1.Touchthe HomeKey >Menu Key>Systemsettings>
Sound >Volumes.
2.Adjust thevolumeformusic, video,games, andothermedia,
theringtone andnotificationvolume,and thealarmvolume.
3.Touch OK tosave.
TIP: Youcanadjustthe mediavolumewhen amedia
applicationis inusebypressing the VolumeKeys. If no
mediaapplicationisactive,pressthe VolumeKeys toadjust
ringtone volume(or the earpiecevolumeduring acall).
EnableSilentorVibratemodeinthefollowing ways:
•Press andholdthe Power Key andthentouch
toenable
silent mode,touchtoenablevibratemode,ortouch
todisablesilent mode.
•Withnomediaapplicationrunningpressingthevolumekeys
will controltheRingvolume.Whenthe icon appears in
thestatus bar, thephoneisset tothevibrate
mode.Whenthe
iconappearsinthe statusbar,the phoneisin thesilent
mode.
•Touchthe HomeKey >Menu Key>Systemsettings>
Sound >Silentmode,andtouch Off, Vibrate or Mute.

Applying New Wallpapers
You can change the HomeScreenor LockScreen wallpaper
1.Touchthe HomeKey>Menu Key>Wallpaper.
2.TouchHomeorLockscreen.
3.Selectawallpaper fromGallery, LiveWallpapers, or
Wallpapersandchoosetheimageoranimationyouwant to
use.Somecroppingmay be needed forGalleryimages.
4.TouchCROPatthetopofthescreen(forGallery images)
or Setwallpaper.
NOTE: LiveWallpapers arenotavailablefor theLock Screen.
ChangingScreen Brightness
1.Touchthe HomeKey>Menu Key>Systemsettings>
Display>Brightness.
2.
TicktheAutomaticbrightness box tomakethephoneadjust
thescreenbrightnessautomatically, or clearthetick boxto
adjustthebrightness manually.
3.TouchOK.
ProtectYourPhoneWith Screen Locks
Youcanprotect yourphonebycreating ascreenlock.
Thephone
supports facerecognition,pattern,anumericPINorpassword to
unlock thescreenandkeys.

3.Select fromLongPress, FaceUnlock,Pattern,PINor
Password.
•If youtouch Pattern
, you’reguidedtocreateapatternyou
must drawtounlock thescreen.Thefirst timeyoudo this,
ashorttutorialabout creatinganunlockpattern appears.
Then you’repromptedtodrawand redrawyour own
pattern.
•IfyoutouchPINorPassword, you’re promptedtoseta
numericPINorapassword you mustenter tounlockyour
screen.
•
Ifyouselect FaceUnlock youareguidedthroughtheface
recognitionapplicationtolock andunlock yourhandset.
The nexttimeyou turnonyourphoneor
wakeup thescreen,you
must drawyour unlockpattern or enter yourPINorpassword to
unlockit.
IMPORTANT: Screenlockoptionsare listedintheapproximate
orderofthestrengthoftheirsecurity,startingwith None and
Long Press,whichprovidenosec
urity. Pattern provides minimal
security, althoughit canbemoreconvenient thanthestronger
options.
Ifyouforgetyourunlock pattern,PINorpassword you haveto
hardreset yourdevice.Fromthe lockedscreen,touch
Emergencycall, thenenterthecode*983*987 andfollowthe
instructions. All dataiserased.
