Keypad Functions
Key Description
On/Off Button • Long press the On/Off Button to open or close the phone.
• In standby mode, press the On/Off Button to lock the key.
• Press the On/Off Button to enable/disable the sleep mode.
Call Key
•Make or answer calls.
•In standby mode, press the Call Key to show calls log.
Menu Key
•In standby mode, press the Menu Key to open the main menu.
End Key
•Press the End Key to end or reject a call.
•Press the End Key to cancel dialing.
•Press the End Key to return to the standby mode.
Volume Keys •Press the Volume Keys to adjust the volume.
Camera Key •In standby mode, long press the Camera Key to enter the Camera menu.
•In Camera menu, press the Camera Key to take photo.
Starting Up
Open the Back Cover
Use the thumb catch at the bottom of the handset to open the battery cover as shown below.
Caution: Do not force the battery cover into place by pressing on it. Doing so will damage the
battery cover.

Installing the Battery
Notes:
•The phone automatically switches off if the battery power is too low.
•If you are not going to use the battery for a long time, remove it from the phone and store it in a cool dry
place.
Insert the battery as shown with the contacts located against the gold springs.
Notes:
The battery only fits one way.
Inserting the Memory Card
The external memory card gives your phone a very large memory capacity. This allows you to save
multimedia data, including images, photos, MP3 audio files, and ring tones. You can also use this memory
card to store other files.
Tips:
microSD cards up to 2GB are supported (FAT 16 format).
microSD HC (high capacity) cards up to 16GB are supported (FAT 32 format).

1. Open the cover of the MocroSD Port.
2. Carefully insert the card as shown below and close the cover.

Caution:
Only use approved memory cards for this device. Any use of unapproved memory cards might cause loss
of information or damage to your phone.
Tips:
•Do not remove the memory card while reading or writing to the card. Doing so might corrupt the
information on the card or phone. If possible, insert and remove the memory card while the phone is
turned off.
•If you want to format the memory card on your PC, make sure you select the FAT Formatting type. If
this is not done the memory card might not be identified by your phone.
Power On/Off
Notes:
Do not turn your phone on in areas in which wireless phone use is not permitted, or when it could cause
interference or danger.
Press and hold the ON/OFF Key to turn on or off the phone.
Tips:
fWhen prompted, enter handset code and click the OK Key to confirm.
fWhen the handset code is accepted, the phone automatically searches for the network. After a few
seconds, your phone displays standby mode.
Charging Your Phone
Your phone uses a rechargeable battery. When you first unpack the phone, the battery is not fully charged,
but there might be enough power to turn on the phone. You should flatten the battery by using all of the
available power before charging the battery for the first time.
Insert the USB charger lead into the USB port as shown below.

Notes:
fMake sure that the adapter’s connector is inserted correctly. Do not force the connector into the port.
fThe battery will remain fully charged for 3 to 4 hours.
fOnly use the charger provided by the original provider. Using an unapproved charger might be
dangerous and violate the authorization and warranty rules of the phone.
fIf the phone is used too often when the battery is low or not used for a long time, the screen may not
display the charge indicator until the battery has been continuously charged for 10 to 40 minutes.
fTo get the maximum performance out of your battery, it is recommended that you completely charge the
battery before using the phone for the first time. A new battery’s full performance is only reached after
three complete charge and discharge cycles have been finished.
fWhen the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger and disconnect it from the phone.
fYou can use the provided charger or the USB data cable to charge the battery.
fCharging is only possible within a temperature range of 0°C to 45°C.

Basic Operation
Touch Screen Controls
Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, except that you need to swipe your finger in light, quicker
strokes. This is always in a vertical direction, such as flicking through your contacts list.
Touch or tap
Tap or touch items on the screen to run the application or make a selection. Use the stylus to select with
greater precision and see Section 9.10 to calibrate the touch screen controls.
Swipe
Swipe your finger vertically to scroll through contacts, messages, music, photos, and more.
Slide
Press and hold your finger on the screen to drag. While dragging, do not release your finger until you have
reached the target position.
Flick
Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, except that you need to swipe your finger in light, quicker

Standby Mode
After powering on the phone, when the operator’s name is displayed on the screen, the phone is in the
standby mode and ready for use.
Calls Make a call.
Browser Enter Browser menu.
Contacts View contacts information.
Menu Screen
Press the Menu Key to open main menu screen.
Slide left and right to switch between screens or select using the row of dots along the bottom:

Lock/Unlock Your Phone
1. Lock the phone: Press and release the On/Off Key at the top of the handset to engage the key lock.
2. Unlock the phone: Tap and slide the lock symbol downwards to match the one at the down to unlock.
Notes:
fIf a call comes in when the keypad is locked, you can press the Call Key to answer it. When the call is
ended or rejected, the keypad locks automatically.
fWhen the keypad lock is on, calls might still be possible to the emergency number.

Text Input
Text Input Method
S550 supports three language — English, Simple Chinese and Spanish.
S550 provides the following input methods: Word, ABC, abc, Abc, number input and handwriting.
When you are in a field that allows characters to be entered, the text input mode indicator is shown in the
soft keypad of the display.
•To insert a space tap the Space Key on the keypad. To delete tap Delete Key .
•Tap the on the keypad for common punctuation marks. Tap the for special characters.
•ABC, Abc, abc are multi-tap modes. Tap the key once for the first letter, twice for the second letter etc.

2 Tap once, input“,”;tap twice, input“.”.
3 Tap to change to number key.

Special Characters and SMS Message Length
Tap the for special characters:
€ \ │[ ] { } Each time one of these symbols is used 2 standard SMS characters are transmitted.
This symbol (underlined above) is not part of the standard SMS character set. Each time
one of these symbols is used the entire message is converted to Unicode. The maximum
number of Unicode characters per SMS is 70.

Contacts
Start the Contacts ( ) application.
You can store contacts with a variety of phone and fax numbers as well as additional address details.
The phone can store up to 500 items. The capacity of a phone book in your (U)SIM card depends on the
type of (U)SIM card provided by your service provider. The saved location can be identified by the icon
before the contacts.
Show the contacts that are none of groups are stored in your phone memory.
Show the contacts that are stored in your SIM card.
Adding a Contact
1. Enter Contacts.
2. Tap Add to create a New Contact.
3. Tap each field in turn to enter the name, number and other details as required
4. Tap on Save when done
Searching a Contact
1. Enter Contacts.
2. Tap Search. Enter the letters of the name you are searching for
Tips:
To find John’ press the 5 key once for ‘J’. All names starting with ‘J’ are displayed.

Dial
Making a Call
1. Start the Dial ( ) application.
2. Tap the number pad to enter the required phone number.
3. Tap to erase a digit.
4. Tap the Dial ( )to make a call.
Making a Speed Dial Call
Start Dial ( ) application, tap and hold the corresponding number key (1~9) set in the speed dial list to
make the call.
Speed Dial Settings
1. Open Contacts and tap the required contact to add the speed dial.
2. Tap Option > Set Speed Dial Number to set speed dial.
3. Tap a number on the keypad to assign the speed dial.
4. Tap Back to exit when finished.

Messaging
Sending a New SMS
1. Enter new SMS editing interface as shown below.
2. Tap to enter the recipient’s(s’) phone number with using soft keypad.
Tap to enter Favorite Contacts, tap to enter recent calls or tap to enter Contact.
3. Tap the message area to enter text using the soft keypad.
4. Tap Send to send the SMS.
Sending a New MMS
1. Enter MMS editing interface as shown below.
2. Tap to enter the recipient’s(s’) phone number with using soft keypad.
Tap to enter Favorite Contacts, tap to enter recent calls or tap to enter Contact.
3. Tap the Title field to enter a title if required.
4. Tap the TEXT area to enter text using the soft keypad.
5. Tap the Attachments filed to insert attachments if required.
6. Tap Send to send the MMS.

Start the RecentCall application ( ) to check the calls log.

1. Launch the Browser ( ) to surfing the internet.

File Manager and External Memory
File Manager
You can create a new folder, rename a folder, check folder attributes and delete unnecessary folders.
1. Tap Folder to view Music, Image, Videos, Ebook, User, Brew and Others as shown:

Bluetooth
Your phone includes Bluetooth used to connect your handset to wireless headsets and hands free car kits.
You can also transfer files between your phone and other Bluetooth devices such as another phone or a
laptop. Not all applications or devices can be supported as Bluetooth is an open forum and different
manufacturers adopt different standards and implementation.
Connect to a Bluetooth Device
1. In standby mode, press the Menu Key to enter the main menu.
2. Tap Bluetooth.
3. Tap Bluetooth Switch to switch Bluetooth on. Tap Visibility On.
4. Tap Search to look for Bluetooth devices nearby.
Notes:
The chosen device must be switched on and in pairing mode.
6. Available devices are listed in the device list. Tap the required device and tap Yes to pair.
7. Enter the Passward for your device.
8. Once the password has been shared and accepted by both devices they are paired.
Use Bluetooth to send files to another device
1. Browse through the folders to find the file(s) you want to send. E.g. My Photos
2. Tap Options > Send via Bluetooth.
3. Check the file(s) you wish to send and tap OK
4. Select the device you wish to send to or press Search to find a new device
5. Enter a Password and use the same Password on the other device (e.g. 0000) if required
Receive files from another device
1. When another device sends you a file tap Yes to authorise the connection
2. Tap Yes to accept the file
