Technical Data
Power consumption: 1220 W
Mains voltage: 220 - 240 V
;This appliance complies with the fol-
lowing EU Directives:
– 73/23/EEC dated 19.02.1973 “Low
Voltage Directive”, including
Amending Directive 93/68/EEC
– 89/336/EEC dated 03.05.1989 “EMC
Directive”, including Amending
Directive 92/31/EEC
Prior to Using for the First Time
Before frothing milk for the first time
you should steam through about a
quarter of a tank full of water in order
to clean the heating system. Proceed
exactly as described in the following
section “Frothing Milk” but without
putting milk in the milk container.
Place as large a receptacle as possible
in the middle of the drip grid and
under the milk discharge outlet of the
frothed milk spout (Figure 1/D, J).
Preparation
Warning: only fill the water tank with
cold, clear water. Do not use mineral-
water, distilled water, milk or other liq-
uids!
0Raise the water tank lid (F).
0Remove the water tank (G) by the
lid and fill with cold, clear water
(Figure 1).
0Replace the water tank with its lid and
push down as far as it will go.
Use
You can use the milk frothing machine
to make cappuccino, café au lait and
cocoa or simply to heat up and froth
milk (for example as a drink with
honey when suffering from a cold).
Assembling and attaching the
frothed milk spout
(Figs. 1 and 10)
Important: all parts of the frothed milk
spout (Figure 2) must be firmly con-
nected to avoid additional air or milk
being sucked in.
0Insert the knob for regulating the froth
(Figure 2/Q) into the control valve (Fig-
ure 2/R) and push firmly into place.
0Insert the control valve (Figure 2/R)
into the connector (Figure 2/O), and
connect the milk discharge outlet (Fig-
ure 2/P) to the connector.
0Firmly push the complete frothed
milk spout onto the steam nozzle (Fig-
ure 2/N) until the upper red seal ring
(Figure 7/“arrow”) is no longer visible
and the steam button (Figure 1/B) can
be pushed down fully.
0Join the milk container with lid to the
control valve (Figure 1/K, L).
Note: you can also suck up the milk
directly from the carton using the flex-
ible hose (Figure 2/S). Check that the
milk carton does not exceed the height
of the frothed milk spout. The flexible
hose must be inserted down into the
milk carton.
0To do this, attach the hose to the con-
trol valve and insert the other end of
the hose (cf. Figure 10) into the milk
carton.
Frothing milk
0Place a cup on the drip grid (Figure 1/D)
under the milk discharge outlet
(Figure 2/P).
0Switch the appliance on using the on/
off switch (Figure 1/A). The indicator
(red) is illuminated.
When the ready indicator (orange) is
illuminated the milk frothing machine
is ready for use (Figure 1/H).
0Press the steam button (Figure 1/B)
down fully.
Warning: hot steam will emerge.
Check that the milk container or flexi-
ble hose is attached. If they are missing

g
11
the knob for regulating the froth must
be closed (Figure 5), or else hot steam
can escape from the side of the con-
trol valve.
The milk will be sucked out of the con-
tainer. Inside the frothed milk spout it
is mixed with steam and frothed up.
The frothed milk flows through the
milk discharge outlet into the waiting
cup.
Milk will continue to flow through for
about 2 to 8 seconds after the steam
button has been released until the
steam pressure in the system has been
reduced.
Important: using the knob for regulat-
ing the froth (Figure 2/Q) you can set
the amount of froth (more or less
added air) and the temperature of the
milk to your taste (Figures 4 to 6). To
do this turn the knob slowly to the
right or to the left until you achieve
the desired result.
Figure 4: maximum froth/
warm milk
Figure 5: no froth
Figure 6: less froth/
hot milk
0After making the frothed milk switch
the appliance off (red indicator goes
off).
Important! It is essential to clean the
frothed milk spout thoroughly each
time you use it to froth milk as
described in the section on cleaning.
Preparing cappuccino
For one serving of cappuccino, half or
two thirds fill a large cup with espresso
and then top up with frothed milk.
Preparing cocoa
0Put cocoa powder, together with milk,
into the container (Figure 1/L) and mix
together well.
0Attach the container to the control
valve (Figure 1/J, K).
0Now proceed as for frothing milk.
Cleaning
Always unplug the appliance from the
mains and allow it to cool down before
cleaning.
Clean the appliance casing with a
damp cloth but never immerse it in
water!
Cleaning the water tank
(Figure 1/G)
0Dispose of any water remaining in the
water tank and clean it if necessary in
ordinary washing-up water.
Cleaning the frothed milk spout
(Figure 11)
Warning: clean all parts that have
come into contact with milk (frothed
milk spout, container including lid, seal
and suction tube or flexible hose,
steam nozzle, drip tray and drip grid)
immediately after use in ordinary
washing-up water!
Check that you not only thoroughly
wash all individual parts of the
frothed milk spout (Figure 2/N, O,
P, R), but especially that you wash
the knob for regulating the froth
(Figure 11).
During the frothing procedure milk
deposits can form in the crevice of
the knob for regulating the froth (Fig-
ure 11/“arrow”). As these deposits can
impair the frothing result, we recom-
mend that the part indicated in the
figure with an arrow should be cleaned
particularly thoroughly. Finally, rinse
the parts with clear water and dry
them.
Do not wash these parts in a dish-
washer as the seals can be damaged.
Cleaning the drip grid and drip
tray
The drip tray can easily be removed for
cleaning. You can wash the drip tray
and drip grid in ordinary washing-up
water.

g

Descaling – to keep your milk
frothing machine in good
condition for longer
The service life of your milk frothing
machine can be lengthened with regu-
lar descaling. As a precaution we rec-
ommend descaling every three months.
For areas with hard water more fre-
quent descaling is required. If a water
filter is used the appliance needs to be
descaled less often.
For descaling use a liquid, environmen-
tally-friendly descaling agent availa-
ble generally at retail outlets. Only use
it in accordance with the manufac-
turer's instructions. Do not use a for-
mic acid based descaler.
0Unplug the appliance from the mains
and allow it to cool.
0Unscrew the steam nozzle (Figure 2/N)
using the descaling nozzle supplied
(turn anti-clockwise) and replace it by
screwing on the descaling nozzle (Fig-
ures 8 and 9).
0Place as large a receptacle as possible
in the middle of the drip grid and
beneath the descaling nozzle.
Warning: first fill the water tank with
water and then add the appropriate
amount of descaling agent as recom-
mended by the manufacturer. Never do
this the other way round!
0Insert the mains plug into the socket,
switch on the appliance using the on/
off switch (Figure 1/A) and wait until
the ready indicator (orange) is illumi-
nated.
0Press the steam button for approx. 30
to 45 seconds and allow the descaling
solution to run through the system.
0Switch off the appliance using the on/
off switch and leave the remaining
descaling solution to take effect for
approx. 10 minutes.
0Repeat the procedure.
The water tank must be cleaned thor-
oughly to remove all traces of the des-
caling agent.
0Fill the water tank with fresh water.
0Allow half of the water to flow
through as described above.
If there is heavy scaling repeat the des-
caling procedure.
0Leave the appliance to cool after des-
caling has been completed.
0Replace the descaling nozzle with the
steam nozzle.
Check that the steam nozzle is fully
screwed in place.
What do I do if ...
... the rate of flow is conspicuously
reduced?
• Descale the appliance.
... no milk is sucked up or too little
froth is produced?
• Always use cool, fresh (low fat!) milk.
• Use a suitable container (e.g., a jug).
• Check whether the knob for regulating
the steam is fully open (cf. Figure 4).
• Check whether all parts of the frothed
milk spout are completely free of
deposits and if any are present remove
them (see also Figure 11).
... loud crackling sounds are pro-
duced when the steam button is
pressed?
• There is no water in the water tank. Fill
with water.
• The water tank is not correctly posi-
tioned. Push the water tank into the
appliance as far as it will go.
2For the Sake of the
Environment
Do not simply throw packaging mate-
rial away.
• The cardboard box can be taken for
recycling or deposited in the relevant
refuse collection system.
• Deposit plastic bags made from poly-
ethylene (PE) at a PE collection point
for recycling.
• Padding materials made of expanded
polystyrene (PS) are CFC-free.
Please inquire with your local authority
about your local recycling centre.
