INTRODUCTION
Warning

orreinforcedinsulation.Useonlyspeciedreplacementparts
whenservicingtheinstrument.
This symbol on the instrument indicates a WARNING and that
the operator must refer to the user manual for instructions
before operating the instrument. In this manual, the symbol
preceding instructions indicates that if the instructions are not
followed,bodilyinjury,installation/sampleandproductdamage
may result.

2.3.2 Disable Auto-off Function
• TurnrotaryswitchtotheOFFposition
• Pressandholddownthe button,thenpowerthemeter
ON by selecting a range.
• Upon the next power ON, the auto-off function will be
reactivated.

OPERATION
4.1 AC Current Measurement
• Turntherotaryrangeswitchtothe range.
• Pressthelevertoopenthejaws.
• Clampthejawsaroundtheconductortobemeasured.
• Immediately unclamp the meter from the conductor under test if
overload" "isdisplayed.
• If reading is unstable and is hard to read, push the HOLD button
and read the measurement.
WARNING: Remove test leads before measuring current.

4.4 Continuity Test

• Bringthetestprobetipsintocontactwiththesampleundertest.
• Iftheresistanceislessthan35Ω, the beeper emits a continuous
sound.
• Ifoverload" "isdisplayed,theresistanceexceedsthemeasure-
ment range or the circuit is open.
WARNING: When testing continuity, make sure that there
 isnopowerinthetestedsampleorcircuit(deadcircuit).
This may be checked by using the voltage functions.

MAINTENANCE
5.1 Warning!
• Removethetestleadsonanyinputbeforeopeningthecase.
• Donotoperatetheclamp-onprobewithoutabatterycasecover.
• Toavoidelectricalshock,donotattempttoperformanyservicing
unlessyouarequaliedtodoso.
• Toavoidelectricalshockand/ordamagetotheinstrument,donot
getwaterorotherforeignagentsintotheprobe.
5.2 Cleaning
• Tocleantheprobe,wipethecasewithadampclothandmilddeter-
gent.
• Donotuseabrasivesorsolvents.
• Donotgetwaterinsidethecase.Thismayleadtoelectricalshock
or damage to the instrument.

5.3 Battery Replacement
The clamp-on meter Model 500 is powered by twoAA 1.5V batter-
ies. The symbolwillappearontheLCDdisplaywhenthesupply
voltagedrops belowproperoperatingrange.This indicatesthatthe
batteries need to be changed. It is recommended to replace both bat-
teries at the same time.
• The meter must be in the OFF position and disconnected from
any circuit or input.
• Placethemeterfacedownandloosenthebatterycoverscrew
withaatheadscrewdriver.
• Replacetheoldbatterieswithtwofresh1.5VAAAsizebatteries.
• Replacethebatterycompartmentcoverandtightendownthe
screw.

TheModel500iswarrantedtotheownerforaperiodofoneyearfromthedateof
originalpurchaseagainstdefectsinmanufacture.Thislimitedwarrantyisgiven
by AEMC®Instruments,notbythedistributorfromwhomitwaspurchased.This
warrantyisvoidiftheunithasbeentamperedwith,abusedorifthedefectis
related to service not performed by AEMC®Instruments.

year period, you may return the instrument to us for repair or replacement
