BinMaxx Overview
The BinMaxx Front-End Loader Scale calculates and displays
the bin net (content) weight of any bin, records the lift number
associated with that bin, and displays an accumulated net
weight of all bins lifted. Users can also record the date and time
of each lift using the optional date and time printer (part #
1250). You can print weights of individual lifts immediately, or
all lift weights together at the end of the workday.
You must calibrate your BinMaxx scale before use. Before
starting the calibration process, it’s a good idea to become
familiar with the BinMaxx scale display.
Scale Buttons
To illuminate the display: press any key one time.
To go back: push the ESC key to revert to the previous screen.
Any unsaved changes will be erased if you press ESC.
To select a menu item: use the up or down arrow keys ▲ or ▼
to highlight your chosen menu item. The item will blink when it is
highlighted. Choose OK to select the blinking item.
To save a change: Press the OK key.
Main menu: Throughout this manual, the term “Main Menu”
refers to the top menu. This menu shows PRINT, ERASE /
SETUP / DIAGNOSTICS if you are using the BinMaxx RS-232
port to print, or ERASE / SETUP / DIAGNOSTICS otherwise.

4
Calibration
When you are using a BinMaxx scale, you need to calibrate your
refuse vehicle before it can be placed in service. We suggest
calibrating the scale using 4 cu. yd. bins. Alternately, you can
calibrate the scale using the Air-Weigh calibration tank (part
#1280).
In the event that you calibrate your BinMaxx scale using a
calibration tank, please see Appendix A for instructions.
During the calibration process, you will lift a 4 cu. yd. bin multiple
times. The first time, fill the bin one-half to three-quarters with
gravel or some other medium. The second time, you will weigh
the bin when it is empty. Follow the instructions provided on the
display and in this manual to complete the system calibration.
After you have successfully lifted and dropped each bin five
times, calibration will be complete.
NOTE: It is important that the calibration be completed as
quickly as possible so that the arm temperature does not
vary much during the calibration process.
Preliminary Considerations
In order for BinMaxx to weigh accurately, you must have an
accurate weight for the bins you use to calibrate. If you are not
using the calibration tank, you must weigh the bin you will be
using for your calibration process.
Do not begin calibration until you have performed the sensor
seating process described in the BinMaxx Installation Guide.
NOTE: If you are using an Air-Weigh calibration tank to
perform the calibration, please see Appendix A.

5
Calibration Procedure
The following pages provide a step-by-step procedure for
performing the HEAVY and EMPTY calibrations, respectively.
Equipment Needed
Access to an accurate ground scale
Quantity (2) of 4 cu. yd. refuse bins with similar dimensions
and weight
Approximately 2500 lbs. of material, such as gravel, to load
into one of the 4 cu. yd. bins
NOTE: When you are filling the heavy bin, select a material
that will not shift much during the calibration process.
Entering Empty and Heavy Weights
1. Select one of the bins to be used as your empty calibration
weight.
2. Weigh the bin on the ground scale.
3. Record your empty weight into your BinMaxx scale. To do so,
push ESC until you reach the PRINT, ERASE / SETUP /
DIAGNOSTICS screen, i.e., the main menu. Select SETUP
and push the ▼key repeatedly until you reach CAL WT
SETUP.
4. Select CAL WT SETUP, then select EMPTY WEIGHT. Use
▲or▼ to enter the empty weight and press OK.
5. Remove the empty bin from the ground scale.
6. Place the loaded heavy bin onto the ground scale and record
the heavy weight into the BinMaxx scale.
7. Push ESC to return to the CAL WEIGHTS screen. Select
HEAVY WEIGHT > OK. Use the ▲or▼ to enter the heavy
weight and push OK. Push ESC until you return to the main
menu.
8. Remove the heavy bin from the ground scale.
9. Place the empty and heavy bins near the vehicle to be
calibrated.

6
NOTE: An empty four-yard bin should weigh between 400
and 600 lbs.
Heavy Calibration
1. Turn the vehicle on and wait for the scale to power up.
2. Place the filled bin on the forks.
3. From the main menu, select the following options: SETUP >
OK > CALIBRATION > OK > HEAVY WEIGHT > OK.
4. Wait a few seconds after the USE FILLED AIR-WEIGH CAL
WEIGHT screen appears. The display will then show RAISE
WEIGHT UNTIL DISPLAY FLASHES. Begin lifting the bin.
NOTE: On the first lift the low proximity switch does not
cause the display to flash.
5. Lift the filled calibration tank until the display flashes,
indicating that it has reached the high proximity switch. During
the lift, the display will show LIFT #1.
6. After several moments, the display will stop flashing and
change to LOWER WEIGHT UNTIL DISPLAY FLASHES.
Lower the calibration tank again in one motion. While you
lower the tank, the display will show DROP #1. When you
reach the low proximity switch location, the display will flash.
Immediately stop lowering the tank, being careful not to touch
the ground.
7. If you stop or pause at any time while raising or lowering the
calibration tank, before the display flashes, you may receive a
LIFT ERROR. The error message will instruct you to restart
the calibration process.
8. Repeat lifting and lowering the calibration tank until the Heavy
calibration is complete. The scale will repeat the instructions
and show the count of lifts and drops remaining.
After five lifts and drops the heavy calibration is complete. The
scale will show HEAVY WEIGHT CALIBRATION DONE... After
a few seconds, the display will change to show EMPTY CALIB
REQUIRED BEFORE USE.

7
Empty Calibration
1. Remove the filled bin from the forks and replace with the
empty bin.
2. Select the following options from the main menu: SETUP >
OK > CALIBRATION > OK > EMPTY WEIGHT > OK.
3. Wait a few seconds after the USE EMPTY AIR-WEIGH CAL
WEIGHT screen appears. The display will then show RAISE
WEIGHT UNTIL DISPLAY FLASHES.
4. Repeat the above instructions to lift and lower the fork five
times and record five weights. As above, the display will show
the remaining LIFT and DROP numbers, and will flash when it
is time to reverse the arm direction from lift to lower and lower
to lift.
5. If you stop or pause at any time while raising or lowering the
calibration tank, before the display flashes, you may receive a
LIFT ERROR. The error message will instruct you to restart
the calibration process.
When you have completed five empty lifts and drops without an
error, calibration is complete. The scale will show EMPTY
WEIGHT CALIBRATION DONE on the display. After a few
seconds, the display will change to show the Lift Number / Bin
Net Weight display.
Once calibrated, your BinMaxx scale will display weight in 20lb
(10kg) increments, and is ready for use.
NOTE: You can change the empty calibration weight after it
has been entered. Once you enter a new empty calibration
weight, the scale will automatically recalculate the empty
ratio and offset.

8
User Guide
User / System Operation
BinMaxx scale acquires measurements while the bin is in motion.
The scale measures the heavy weight while lifting and the empty
weight while lowering. From those two measurements, the net
weight is calculated and displayed. This measurement area is
called the measurement zone.
The measurement zone is determined based on a fork height,
low proximity switch setting of 48” –52” and a high proximity
switch setting of approximately 98 –102”from the ground. The
distance between these two locations provides a measurement
zone window of approximately 50”.
In order to get the most accurate readings with the least amount
of lift errors, follow these recommended procedures:
Do:
Provide as smooth and consistent a lift and drop as
possible while going through the measurement zone.
Don’t:
Do not pause during a lift or drop in the measurement
zone.
Do not try to arrange or shift the bin load while in the
measurement zone.
Do not exceed 60 seconds above the high proximity switch
when emptying a bin before returning to the measurement
zone.
BinMaxx will update the lift number and net weight soon after the
bin has dropped below the low proximity switch measurement
area.

NO
From this screen, the driver can reset both the lift number and the
total (accumulated net bin weight) value. At the beginning of a
shift the driver may want to zero the lift number and net weight
value before beginning the route. If the vehicle is turned off during
the course of the day, when it is restarted and the system powers
up the BinMaxx screen will ask if the user wants to reset the lift
number and/or the net weightnvalue. The driver can choose to
reset either, both or neither to zero at this time.
RESET LIFT: You can RESET LIFT # by choosing YES or NO.
Use the UP or DOWN arrow to select YES or NO and press OK.
If you select YES, the display will show RESET LIFTS
(ACCEPTED) and the LIFT # will be set to zero. The RESET
WEIGHT screen will display.
If you select NO, the lift number will NOT be reset and will remain
at its last recorded lift number. The RESET WEIGHT screen will
display when you are finished.
