Why Your Physician Prescribed Oxygen
Manypeoplesufferfrom avarietyofheart,lung, andotherrespiratorydiseases. Asignificantnumberofthesepatients
canbenefit fromsupplemental oxygentherapyat home, whentraveling, orwhile participatingindaily activitiesaway
fromhome.
Oxygenis a gas that makesup 21% of the roomair we breathe. Our bodies dependon a steady supply tofunction
properly. Yourphysician has prescribed supplemental oxygen therapy because your body is not able to get enough
oxygenfromroom air. Oxygenisanon-addictivedrug,and yourphysicianprescribedaflowsufficienttoimproveyour
condition.
Pleasekeep in mind that unauthorized oxygen therapycanbedangerous. Youmustseekmedical advice before you
usethisoxygenconcentrator. TheEquipmentProviderwhosupplies youroxygenequipmentwilldemonstrate howto
settheprescribedflowrate.
It is very important to select the prescribed level of oxygen flow. Do not increase or decrease the flow

What Is the FreeStyle Portable Oxygen Concentrator?
Oxygenconcentrators were introduced in themid-1970sandhavebecome the most convenient, reliablesourceof
supplementaloxygen available today.Oxygenconcentratorsare the cost-effective,efficient,and safe alternativeto
usinghigh-pressure oxygen cylinders orliquidoxygen. Anoxygen concentrator provides all theoxygenyou need
withno cylinderorbottle deliveriesrequired.
Theair we breathe contains approximately 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen,and1%othergases.In the FreeStyle unit,
roomairpasses through a regenerative, adsorbent material called "molecular sieve." This materialseparatesthe
oxygenfrom thenitrogen. The resultisa flowofhigh concentrationoxygendelivered tothepatient.
Thesize and weight of traditionaloxygenconcentratorshave limited their portability.Apersonwho needs oxygen
awayfrom home or a hospital has used high-pressure oxygencylindersand/orliquidoxygen.Oxygen conserving
devices(OCDs) have been used to increase the length oftimethatcylinderslast.OCDs deliver oxygen only at the
beginningofinhalation,whenoxygenis mostbeneficial. Using thistechnique, OCDsconserveoxygen.
FreeStyleusestraditionaloxygenconcentrationtechnologyandcombinesitwithoxygenconservingtechnology.This
combinationenablesasignificantreductioninthesizeoftheoxygen concentratorandmakesFreeStyleultra-portable.
Atypical oxygen concentrator weighs more than 50pounds.Incontrast,your FreeStyle concentrator weighs only
4.4lbs (2kg).

FreeStyledelivers aflowofoxygen uptoan equivalent flowof3 LPM (litersperminute) in thislightweightpackage
thatcanbe easily carried and used away from home.
FreeStyleoperates from four different power sources. (RefertothePower Supplies section of this manual.)
