Please Read and Fully Understand the Instructions for Use (IFU) before Using
the Arjo Strap Stretcher
The information in this manual is crucial to the proper operation and maintenance of the Arjo Strap Stretcher.
It will help protect your product as well as make sure that the equipment performs to your satisfaction. Lifting
and transferring a person always presents a potential risk. Some of the information in this manual is important
for your safety and must be read and understood to help prevent injuries.
A service routine must be performed on your Arjo Strap Stretcher by quali¿ed service personnel. This will
ensure the safety and good function of your product. See “Care and Maintenance” section in this manual.
Please contact your local Arjo agent if you need more information, notice any changes in the performance of
your ceiling lift, want to report an unexpected event or need any help in setting up, using or maintaining your
Arjo Strap Stretcher. The agent can offer comprehensive support and service programs to maximize the long-
term reliability, safety and value of the product.

If a serious incident occurs in relation to this medical device, affecting the user, or the resident then the user

6INTENDED USE
Intended Use
The Arjo Strap Stretcher is speci¿cally designed to lift a patient/resident in a supine position in hospital
environments and Long Term Care (LTC). This product is also intended for assisted lateral transfer of patients/
residents between surfaces of bed and stretcher. The Arjo Strap Stretcher should be used together with Arjo
lift devices and Arjo stretcher frames (700-19302, 700-15695 and 700-19522) in accordance with the Allowed
Combinations speci¿ed in the Instruction for Use (IFU).
The Arjo Strap Stretcher allows caregivers to have access to provide wound for inspection and wound care.
The Arjo Strap Stretcher shall only be used by appropriately trained caregivers with adequate knowledge of
the patient/resident medical contraindications of use of this product, and in accordance with the instructions
outlined in the IFU.
The Arjo Strap Stretcher should only be used for the purpose speci¿ed in the IFU. Any other use is prohibited.
Resident Assessment
We recommend that facilities establish regular assessment routines. Caregivers should assess each patient/
resident according to the following criteria prior to use:
• Patient/resident is unable to sit upright or semi-reclined in a standard passive sling
• Might be almost completely bed ridden
• May have stiff, contracted or painful joints preventing them from sitting upright or partially upright
• Totally dependent on the caregiver
• Provision of care and general transfers are physically demanding for the caregiver
The patient/resident should not exceed a maximum weight of 227kg (500 lb). The Arjo Strap Stretcher length
is 1959mm (77 1/8in) and its width at shoulders is 670mm (26 2/5in). The product may be used with patients/
residents taller or wider than the Arjo Strap Stretcher if they are properly assessed prior to use, since use of
the Arjo Strap Stretcher may generate pressure points.
WARNING
To avoid injury, caregivers must continuously attend the patient during ceiling and Àoor lift
usage.
WARNING
To avoid injury, only caregivers can operate this product. It is not intended to be operated by
the patient, as they might become helpless in the unit in an unlikely case of product failure.
WARNING
To avoid injury, do not use this product to transport the patient.
WARNING
To avoid injury, check with patient practitioner/caregiver if patient has any spinal injuries prior
to use.

INTENDED USE
WARNING
To avoid injury, the Arjo Strap Stretcher should only be used after proper assessment of each
patient’s size, condition and the type of lifting situation.
NOTE
If the patient does not meet these criteria, an alternative equipment/system should be used.
Operational Life
The life span of this product is the safe operating time period before an overhaul is required. Age, patient
weight and maintenance frequency are factors that have an impact on the Arjo Strap Stretcher life span.
The expected service life of Stretcher Frame is the maximum period of useful life.
The expected service life of the Side Sections, Strap Guide and Buckles is ten (10) years, subject to
preventive maintenance being carried out in accordance with the instructions for Care and Preventive
Maintenance found in the IFU.
The expected service life of the Cross Straps is ¿ve (5) years, subject to preventive maintenance being carried
out in accordance with the instructions for care and maintenance found in the IFU.
The expected service life of the Dual-Loop Attachment Straps is two (2) years, subject to preventive
maintenance being carried out in accordance with the instructions for care and maintenance found in the IFU.
Important Safety Instructions
The information in this IFU is important for your safety and must be read and understood to help prevent
injuries.If there is anything in the manual that is confusing or hard to understand, call Arjo or their vendor (the
telephone number appears on the last page of this manual).
WARNING
To avoid possible strangulation risks related to the Dual-Loop Attachment Straps, the hand
control cable or the accessories’ cable, check all parts of the product, as well as the lifter, and
always take the precautions described in this IFU.

8SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Safety Instructions
WARNING
To avoid falling, make sure that the resident
is positioned in accordance with this IFU.
WARNING
To avoid injury, make sure that the resident
is not left unattended at any time.
WARNING
To avoid entrapment, make sure to keep the
resident’s hair, arms and feet close to the
body and use designated grab supports
during any movement.
WARNING
To prevent cross-contamination, always
follow the disinfection instructions in this
IFU.
WARNING
To avoid eye and skin damage during the
cleaning and the disinfection process,
always use protective eyewear and
protective gloves. If contact occurs rinse
with plenty of water. If eyes or skin become
irritated, contact a physician. Always
read the material safety data sheet of the
disinfectant.
NOTE
A medical assessment of the patient must
be made to make sure their suitability to use
this product.
WARNING
To avoid patient injury, always inspect
the Arjo Strap Stretcher prior to each use
for any irregularities as per the “Care and
Preventive Maintenance” section of this
manual.

PREPARATIONS
Actions Before First Use
1. Check that all parts of the product are supplied. Compare to section “Parts Designation” on page 10. If
any part is missing or damaged - do NOT use this product.
2. Read the IFU.
3. Disinfect the product according to section “Cleaning and Disinfection” on page 19.
4. Choose a designated area, where the IFU should be kept and easily accessible at all times.
Actions Before Every Use
1. An assessment on the suitability for transferring a patient who is connected to electrodes, catheters or
other medical devices should be conducted by quali¿ed personnel before performing any transfer.
2. The help of a second caregiver has been assessed for each individual case to avoid any violent impact
during transfers.
3. Perform a functionality test according to section ““Care and Preventive Maintenance” on page 20.
4. Make sure the straps are properly fastened.
5. Make sure the transfer procedures outlined in this manual are followed.
6. Make sure the straps used in transfer are cleaned and maintained according to the section “Care and
Preventive Maintenance” on page 20 of this manual.

Attach the Arjo Strap Stretcher to Stretcher Frame
NOTE
The three closely positioned strap buckles should be positioned at the head end of the strap stretcher. They
will be indicated by the head end of the tube.

WARNING
To avoid injury, do not use this product if
any parts are missing.
1. Push each cross strap through each buckle of
one of the two Side Straps.
2. Press the buckle down fully to lock it. Leave a
minimum of 15 cm (6 in) of strap outside the
buckle. See Fig. 2.
3. Place one End Tube above the patient’s head (A)
and one below the feet (B).
4. Place the Side Section (C), without the Cross
Strap, on the patient’s side, buckles facing up.
See Fig. 3.
NOTE
Make sure patient’s head is aligned with
the blue Body Position label on the Side
Section.
5. Connect each End Tube to the corresponding
holes in the Side Section.
6. Hold the “strapped” Side Section with the longer
lengths of the straps hanging toward the patient.
7. Connect both End Tubes to the Side Sections
(A). See Fig. 4.

8. Manually attach the head (3x) and foot (1x) Cross
Straps ¿rst. See Fig. 5
9. Thread the Cross Strap (A) around the Strap
Guide (B). See Fig. 6.
10.
Pass the strap guide under the side section of the
frame and under the patient. See Fig. 7.
Continue the movement until the strap guide
and the cross strap are on the other side of
the patient. If needed, press on the mattress to
facilitate the insertion of the strap guide under the
patient.
11. When the cross strap is on the other side of the
patient, pull the strap from the strap guide and
insert it through the buckle. Remove the strap
guide slowly from under the patient. Repeat the
process for all cross straps.
12. Press each buckle clasp down to make sure that
each strap is pulled tight and in a secure position.

WARNING
To avoid injury, be careful not to trap
any skin while feeding straps under the
patient or under the buttocks. Pay extra
attention on bariatric patients.

1. Before patient is lifted, all the Cross Straps must
be locked into the buckles.
2. Loop all the Dual-Loop straps around the correct
Suspension Points on the stretcher frame.

RAISE THE PATIENT
(6 steps)
1. Bring the lift to the patient. See Fig. 10.
2. Align the center of the frame approximately over
the patient’s navel. See Fig. 11.
3. Lower the stetcher frame over the patient.
See Fig. 12.

Attach all straps to the stretcher frame. Choose
which loop to use (short or long), depending on
the size of the patient. See Fig. 13.
5.
Attach the Dual-Loop Attachment Straps from the
Arjo Strap Stretcher to the stretcher frame.
See Fig. 14.
6. Proceed to raise the patient. See Fig. 15. When
using a ceiling lift, always make sure that the Arjo
Strap Stretcher is in an horizontal position. Refer
to the section “Adjusting Stretcher Frame” on
page 15.
WARNING
To avoid patient injury, make sure any
obstructions are removed from the
intended route of travel. Hold the Arjo
Strap Stretcher with one hand when
transferring for better patient stability.
For transferring, see the appropriate lift IFU.
WARNING
To avoid injury, use only the hooks
identi¿ed by the “SUSPENSION POINT”
labels (see Fig. 13), on the stretcher
frame to attach the Arjo Strap Stretcher
to the frame.
WARNING
To avoid the patient falling, maintain
stability and patient-caregiver contact,
by keeping the patient near the height of
the bed.

Adjusting Stretcher Frame
(Ceiling Lifts only)
(3 steps)
1. To adjust the spreader bar frame, pull out/push in
the knobs. See. Fig. 16.
2. Rotate knob. See Fig. 17.
3. Move the support bracket towards the heavier
end (downward pointing) when stretcher frame is
hanging horizontally. See Fig. 18.

Removing a Strap While Raised
(2 steps)
Individual patient support Cross Straps can be
loosened and removed for access to any part of the
patient while they are raised.
1.
Raise and move the patient away from the bed.
See Fig. 19.
2.
Unfasten the Cross Strap from one side only. It is
recommended to not unfasten both sides, which
will facilitate the reinstallation of the cross strap, if
needed. See Fig. 20.
WARNING
To avoid injury, remove no more than
one strap.
WARNING
To avoid injury, Cross Straps behind the
head and neck should not be removed
during use.

LOWER THE PATIENT
Lower the Patient
(3 steps)
1.
When the transfer is complete, align the patient
over bed and lower patient. See Fig. 21.
2. Once lowered, remove the Dual-Loop
Attachment Straps from both the stretcher frame
and the Arjo Strap Stretcher. See Fig. 22.
3. Raise the spreader bar. Move the Àoor lift away
from the patient. See Fig. 23.
WARNING
To avoid injury, make sure that both the
patient’s or attendant’s legs and feet are
clear of the moving mast when lowering
the Arjo Strap Stretcher frame.

18 REMOVE THE ARJO STRAP STRETCHER
(3 steps)
1. Once the patient is lowered onto the bed, open all
of the buckles on both Side Sections.
See Fig. 24.
2. Remove the Cross Straps by pulling from one
side. Once the Cross Straps are removed,
proceed to remove all other Arjo Strap Stretcher
parts, including the two End Tubes and Side
Sections. See Fig. 25.
3. Store the Arjo Strap Stretcher in its bag in a safe
and appropriate place.
NOTE
The Arjo Strap Stretcher should be cleaned
and disinfected between each patient use.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
Cleaning and Disinfection
Cleaning and Disinfection Instructions
Thorough disinfection routines are necessary to stop the bacterial growth on the equipment. Effective
disinfection as outlined below reduces the risk of cross-contamination between residents.
WARNING
To prevent injuries, always wear protection for eye, hand and clothing when handling cleaning
products. Cleaning products must be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Disinfection methods should comply with local or national guidelines (Decontamination of Medical Devices),
depending on Healthcare Facility or country of use. If uncertain, consult local Infection Control specialist.

Always Follow These Steps for Cleaning and Disinfection
Side Sections, End Tubes, Buckles & Strap Guide
(6 steps)
1. Detach the Arjo Strap Stretcher from the lift.
2. Rinse to remove any deposits or visible dirt from
the Strap Stretcher, if needed.
3. Wipe the parts using a solution containing one of
the compatible disinfectants listed under “Allowed
Disinfectants” on page 19.
4. Allow contact time according to the cleaning
agent manufacturer’s IFU.
5. Rinse to remove chemical residue, if stated in the
cleaning agent manufacturer’s IFU.
6. Air dry at room temperature.
Cross Straps and Dual-Loop Straps
(3 steps)
1. Detach the Arjo Strap Stretcher from the lift.
2. Rinse to remove any deposits or visible dirt from
the Strap Stretcher, if needed.
3. Launder the Dual-Loop Straps and Cross Straps
as per the following care instructions:
• Washing temperature must not exceed 80°C
(176°F)
• Always use mild detergents
• Never wring, press or iron
• Never bleach
• Rinse thoroughly
• Never tumble dry or dry clean
• Never place in contact with a heat source

20 CARE AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Care and Preventive Maintenance
Mandatory Checks before Every Use
(3 steps)
1. Carefully inspect all parts, in particular where there is close contact with the patient’s body. Make sure that
no cracks or sharp edges have developed, which could injure the patient’s skin or become unhygienic.
2. Check that all external ¿ttings are secure and that all screws and nuts are tight.
3. Make sure that all the instruction labels are ¿rmly attached and in a readable condition.
The Arjo Strap Stretcher, as well as the Dual-Loop Attachment Straps are subject to wear and tear, and the
following actions must be performed to make sure that the product remains within its original manufacturing
speci¿cation.
WARNING
To avoid malfunction, resulting in injury, make sure to conduct regular inspections and follow
the recommended maintenance schedule. In some cases, due to heavy product use and
exposure to aggressive environments, frequent inspections should be made. Local regulations
and standards may be more stringent than the recommended maintenance schedule.
