All caregiver obligations according to Instructions for Use are to be checked when
performing the Qualified personnel Service
WARNING
The points on this checklist are the minimum the manufacturer recommends. In some
cases due to heavy use of the product and exposure to aggressive environment, more
frequent inspections should be carried out. Continuing to use this product without
conducting regular inspections or continuing to use this product when a fault is found
will seriously compromise the user and residents safety. Local regulations and
standards may be higher than the manufacturers. Preventive maintenance specified
in this manual can prevent accidents.

Service Procedures
SP 1. Check that the latest
updates have been
implemented
Check if there are any Field Safety Notices or
Technical Advisory Notices (FSN:s and TAN:s)
that have been published since the last service.
Field Safety Notice: information notice
informing of what actions must be taken in a
Field Safety Corrective Action.
Technical Advisory Notices are divided in three
classes:
•A:Field Safety Corrective Action (FSCA)
Information about what technical
interventions to be made in order to remedy
safety related issues described by the Field
Safety Notice (FSN)
•B: Information about non-safety related
changes
•C: Information about administrative issues
The check must be done to keep the product up
to date according to safety and product
improvements.

SP 2. Check battery
Check the battery
The battery condition tester will load the
battery with a high current for a short time and
this will show the battery condition on a meter.
The battery power tester will load the battery
with up to 10 A depending on battery condition
.
Battery test
1. The battery to be tested must be charged for
at least 12 hours before test!
2. Connect the tester to the battery with
suitable connector (a)
3. Press and hold button (b) for 1-2 seconds
4. The meter (c) will show the battery
condition.
5. Green indication = PASS
Yellow indication= PASS
Red indication = FAIL
6. If the battery is OK, put the tested battery
back in the charger after the test.

WARNING
• The battery power tester will become
hot and there is a potential risk of fire.
• Make sure the battery power tester is
kept away from inflammable material
during tests and for several minutes
following the test.

SP 3. Check all vital parts for
corrosion and damage
Visually check and correct so that the intended
function is not impaired:
•(a) Stretcher with flexible hip part
•(b) Gables
•(c) Chassis covers
•(d) Labels
•(e) Mattress/pillow/wedge pillow
•(f) Side support with handles and cover, note
if bracket on each handle is missing. If
bracket is missing, handle must be replaced.
•(g) Castors
•(h) Brakes
•(i) Drain, drain plug
•(j) Emergency stop
•(k) Adjustable back rest (option)
•(l) Battery, See Instruction For Use
•(m) Control Panels and cabling

Painting
If the painting is damaged (scratches/marks)
add paint in matching colour to prevent future
corrosion. Note! Before applying the paint the
surface must be clean and dry.

NOTE
Screws and bolts attached with Loctite should
not be checked by tools but manually to test if
the jointing/component is securely fitted.
If tightening is needed and Loctite is previously
used new Loctite must be applied. Proceed
according to the Loctite manufactures
instructions.

SP 5.Check the safety stop
function
Check that the microswitch (a) stops the
stretcher from lowering if an object is hit.
If not:
• Check cabling (b) to PCB J3. If the cabling
is shortcut the safety stop will not work. If
the cabling is cut the actuator will not
operate. To replace the microswitch see SP
10 page 17.

SP 6. Perform a safe working
load test (Local Requirement)
Applicable load test:
• Model: Carevo
• SWL: 200 kg (440 lbs)
• Test load: 200 kg (440 lbs)
• Use the ArjoHuntleigh load test equipment
and refer to SP015 for general information
on load testing.
NOTE! Do not make adjustments to
exceed the above limits. See SP 13 page
21.
1. Use eight water barrels from the Load Test
Equipment ST120 or 25 l standard plastic
barrels.
2. Fill eight barrels full with water.
3. Remove the mattress and lower one side
support.
4. To ensure cleanliness, place a suitable
lightweight cover on the stretcher e.g. cloth,
plastic or paper sheet.
5. Lower the stretcher to the lowest level.
6. Load the barrels on the stretcher, start from
the middle.
7. Raise the hoist to apply and sustain the test
load of 200 kg for a period of at least 15
minutes.
8. Lower the stretcher and remove the water
barrels: check for any permanent
deformation or damage. Recommend the
replacement of any defective parts.
9. Clean down the stretcher.
10.Document the test results according to local
routines.
CAUTION
• Obey all relevant safety precautions.
• The Safe Working Load (SWL) is
applicable to the model quoted. Always
refer to the SWL identified on the actual
hoist equipment

SP 7. Inspect Castors
Do a a validation concerning wear, movement
of every swivel/ wheel and appearance as
follows.
1. Lay the product down onto a flat surface.
Protect areas in contact with the ground so
you avoid damage to sensitive components.
Place in a position that will allow all of the
castors to rotate freely without obstructions
(this may require repositioning of the prod-
uct during checks)
2. Check ease of swivel action by rotating the
castor upwards (a) and let it fall by
gravitational force from both sides: There
must be no resistance during full motion
and the end position must be down.
3. Check ease of motion of wheel by slightly
rotating the wheel: The wheel must
continue to rotate when released and
without excessive bearing noise. (b)
4. Check the wheel tread: Check for splits/
cracks, flat spots, missing sections or any
visible damage. Replace if any of the
before mentioned is found.
5. Place the product upright for further testing.
6. Check function of brakes by applying the
brakes and push the product forward: The
brakes must lock the wheels and the
brake lever must function on/off
7. With applied brakes check swivel lock:
Castors shall not swivel.
8. Apply load to the product (approx. 80 kg)
and carry out a manoeuver ability test:
It must be possible to manoeuver in all
directions requiring little effort.
If any of these criteria are not met the
complete castor/s must be replaced.
The decision must be made by the service
technician as to the replacement of the castors.
NOTE
The castors must be properly cleaned according
to the customer obligations before starting.

When replacement is not carried out the
technician must state in the service notes that
the castors will remain safe until the next
scheduled service.
Replacement
Castor with brake
1. Unscrew the locking nut (a) pull off the cas-
tor and slide out old screw
2. Assemble the new castor kit for brake with
screw (b), thick washer (c) and tighten with
washer (d) and locking nut (a) (torque see
page 23).
3. Check the function of the new castor
Straight steering
1. Unscrew the locking nut (a) pull off the cas-
tor and slide out the old screw
2. Use the castor kit for the brake and the
straight steering kit
3. Remove plastic cap (b) from castor
4. Note position of straight steering on castor
(A)
5. Assemble the new castor with screw (c),
thick washer (d), toothed washer (e), straight
steering (f), washer (e), and tighten with
washer (h) and locking nut (a) (torque see
page 23)
6. Check the function of the new castor with
straight steering
NOTE
If it is a single replacement and without straight
steering on Carevo: reuse thin washer as
position (c)

SP 8. Inspect handles of
safety side
Perform the visual inspection in case of any
potential wear or damage to handles, which are
used to lock or unlock safety sides. Pay
attention to the areas indicated by the arrows
below. If there is any visible deformation or
crack on the surface, the handle needs to be
replaced with a new one.
CAUTION
All four handles need to be working properly to
ensure correct and safe function of the device.

SP 10. Replace the control
panel
1. Remove the battery
2. Remove membrane on control panel
3. Remove battery box cover (a) with 3 screws
4. Disconnect the control panel cable from the
connection board (b) and release it from the
strain relief (c)
Control panel head gable:
Removal
5. Remove the battery box with 4 screws (d),
support the battery box
6. Remove the gable; 4 screws with washers (e)
is holding the gable, 4 locking nuts are
located in the stretcher head plate
7. Insert a suitable tool in the slots (f) to snap
off the control panel
Assembly
8. Push the new cable through the hole in the
gable and insert the new control panel. Be
sure to use the correct panel as the panel only
can be used once.
9. Reassemble gable; 4 screws with washers (e)
use Loctite and torque see page 24
10.Stretch the cable and place the cable in the
slots on top of the battery box
11.Place box in position and reassemble using 4
screws (d)
12.Connect cable to the connection board (b)
and refit in the strain relief (c)
13.Refit battery box cover (a) with 3 screws
14.Insert battery and check function

Control panel side support:
The cables from the side supports are strapped
(g) together with a grey cable cover in the side
support and then attached with a clamp, the rest
of the cable is attached with 2 straps up to the
battery box
Removal
5. Remove the 2 screws on each side holding
the side support cover (h) but do not remove
the cover
6. Lower side support, cut all ties
7. Remove 2 screws with washers holding
each handle (i) and remove both handles
8. Now remove the side support cover and
release the cable from the side support
9. Insert a suitable tool in the slots (f) to snap
off the control panel
Assembly
10.Push the new cable through the hole in the
gable and insert the new control panel. Be
sure to use the correct panel as the panel
only can be used once.
11.Refit cable to the side support and stretcher
using grey cover and straps (g) Be sure to
leave enough cable for side support
movement
12.Strap the cable up to the battery box from
the side supports, use locking nut and
washer for clamp (k) and attach strain relief
(c) on battery box.
13.Fit the side support cover (i) with 4 screws
and washers
14.Fit both handles with 2 screws and washers.
Note position of clip (j) on each handle,
towards middle of stretcher. Use Loctite and
torque see page 24
15.Connect cable to the connection board (b)
and refit the strain relief (c)
16.Refit battery box cover with 3 screws (a)
17.Insert battery and check function

Straps must be replaced and fitted correctly

SP 11. Replace the micro
switch
1. Raise the stretcher to top position to get bet-
ter access
2. Remove 2 screws with washers on each side
holding the top cover (a) and lower both
parts as a unit, there is no need to divide
them
3. Remove the battery cover with 3 screws (b)
and unplug the cable from PCB J3 (c),
release the cabling from the strain relief with
2 screws (d)
4. Cut the straps for the cable
5. Pull out the cotter pin (e) from the actuator
6. Remove the 2 screws (f) and 2 washers (g)
for one screw holding the microswitch to the
pin (h)
Assembly
1. Attach the new microswitch with 2 screws
and 2 washers to the pin, use Loctite (see
page 24)
2. Attach pin and lock with cotter pin
3. Connect cable to PCB J3
4. Strap up the cabling to the battery box
5. Attach strain relief
6. Test function. See “SP 5. Check the safety
stop function” on page 9
7. Attach battery cover with screws
8. Attach top cover with 4 screws and washers,
use torque (see page 24)
To protect the PCB from static
electricity (ESD); Ground yourself
before proceeding.

SP 12. Replace the lift
actuator
Locking and torque see page 23-24
1. If possible position actuator in mid-position
2. Remove outer cover; unsnap from chassis
and divide
3. Remove 2 screws with washers (a) on each
side holding the top cover and divide them.
4. Pull out the cotter pin (b) from the actuator
5. Let the stretcher rest on its side
6. Remove the battery cover with 3 screws (c)
and unplug the cable from PCB J4 (d),
release the cabling from the strain relief with
2 screws (e)
7. Remove pin with microswitch (f)
Only if actuator is stuck in top position:
• Remove 2 screws with washers and nut (g)
holding the upper bearings and press up the
bearings 2,5 cm
• Pull apart stretcher and chassis enough to be
able to pull out the actuator from the
microswitch bearing (h)
8. Remove screw (i) holding the actuator in the
bottom and pull it out.
Note. The screw can be impossible to
remove from the actuator and instead the
piston on the actuator rotates. If this is the
case continue to rotate the screw until the
piston is free from the actuator. Then its
possible to hold the piston and remove the
screw. Note, if the piston on the actuator
rotates the actuator is damaged and must not
be used.
To protect the PCB from static
electricity (ESD); Ground yourself
before proceeding.

Assembly
1. Attach actuator in chassis with screw (i), use
Loctite
2. If applicable: Slide down and attach
bearings with 2 screws, washers and new
locknut (g), use torque
3. Run actuator to fit in the microswitch
bearing
4. Attach pin with microswitch to the actuator
and lock with cotter pin (b)
5. Attach cable to PCB J4
6. Attach the cabling with the strain relief (e)
7. Check function.
8. Raise the stretcher
9. Attach the battery cover with screws (c)
10.Attach covers with screws and washers (a),
use torque

SP 13. Replace the bearings
for side support
1. Cut the straps (a) holding the cable to the
control panel and remove the cable clamp
2. Fold down the side support
3. Remove the top part of both bearings (b)
cutting through the material
4. Lift off the side support. Be careful with the
cable and support it from below
5. Remove lower parts of bearing (c)
Assembly
1. Attach new lower part bearings (c) and let
attach the side support
2. Slide in the top part of the bearing (b), only
possible in one position, until the wings snap
to the stretcher frame
3. Strap cabling with grey cover (a) and attach
clamp for cable with new locknut
4. Check function
