This User Guide has been prepared to assist with the installation of a Traka Touch S System and additional extensions.
2. PRODUCT DETAILS

3. SYSTEM & IFOB DIAGRAM
3.1 SYSTEM DIAGRAM
3.1.1 SYSTEM KEY
1. Receptor Slot
The Receptor Slot holds the iFob in place.
2. Manual Door Release Cam Lock
2 master keys are supplied with your Traka system. The master key can be used for gaining access to the keys in
the system in an emergency situation. It can also be used during servicing and maintenance. We ask that you do
not keep the master keys in the Traka cabinet.
3. Pod Cam Lock
As well as the manual door release, the master key can also be used for gaining access to the system electronics
during servicing and maintenance.
4. Control Pod
Incorporates the touch screen, reader (if applicable) as well as the cam Lock providing access to the systems
electronics.
5. Touch Screen
The Touch sensitive LCD works as a user friendly interface for our embedded application. The numeric keypad,
alphabetic keyboard and receptor buttons are incorporated into this easy to use 7” LCD.
6. Card /Proximity Reader
Traka supports a wide array of access devices. The primary job of any access device is to identify the user to the
Traka system. Once the system knows who you are, it can grant or deny access to specific keys accordingly.

3.2 IFOB (INTELLIGENT FOB) & KEY BUNCH DIAGRAM
3.2.1 IFOB KEY
1. iFob
The iFob is at the heart of any Traka Key Management system. It is a bullet shaped device made from nickel
plated brass. It contains a microchip with a unique identification number allowing the Traka system to
identify the key(s) attached.
2. Identification Tag
The identification tag displays the cabinet slot number to which the iFob belongs. The tags can be provided in
a variety of colours which is useful when managing multiple Traka systems. For example tag “101 yellow”
would belong to position 101 in the “Yellow” cabinet and tag “101 blue” would belong to position 101 in the
“blue” cabinet. This makes it nice and simple for system administrators and users.
3. Security Seal
The Security Seal is used to attach the key(s) to the iFob using the special tools from the kit provided. Once
the seal is locked, the only way to detach the keys from the iFob is to cut the security seal using the special
cutter tool from the supplied kit.

4. EXTENSION SYSTEMS OVERVIEW
If your system does not have extension cabinets you can skip this section.
Additional ‘extension’ systems are installed alongside the main system. Up to three additional extensions can be added
for a total of four systems.
NOTE: Each extension cabinet will be clearly marked to indicate which order they should be located next
to the main system. It is important that the cabinets are located in this order as all DIP switch address
configuration and position numbering will already have been carried out at Traka during test.
Each system will be linked together via a receptor cable that connects to the CAN Interface PCB. The CAN Interface
PCB is secured inside the top of each cabinet.
1. Primary CANbus – through-connection connects to the next extension cabinet in the chain.
2. Secondary CANbus – connects to the receptor strips in the local cabinet.
3. Cabinet Door Solenoid and Switch – connects to the door lock mechanism in the local cabinet. A door
lock extension cable is provided for extension cabinets.
4. Cabinet Address – (0=Off, 1=On) 0000 = Cabinet 1, 1000 = Cabinet 2, 0100 = Cabinet 3, 1100 =
Cabinet 4.
5. Max Receptor Address – must be set to match the bottom (highest address) receptor strip in the local
cabinet.
6. Min Receptor Address – must be set to match the top (lowest address) receptor strip in the local
cabinet.
7. Termination Jumper Links – must be fitted here on the last cabinet in the chain only as show below.
8. Primary CANbus – through-connection connects to the Traka Touch PCB (if it is in the main cabinet) or
the previous extension cabinet (if it is in an extension system).
9. TMPR1 – Connection for the Tamper Switch on the receptor frame (V3.2 and above PCB only).
TMPR 2 – Connection for the Tamper Switch on the rear of the cabinet (V3.2 and above PCB only).

5. BEFORE YOU START
5.1 MOUNTING INFO & SAFETY TIPS
Traka systems contain delicate electronic components which may be damaged if Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD) control measures are not correctly adhered to.
Traka systems must be securely fastened to a wall to eliminate the potential of the system being
pulled over and causing damage or injury.
Traka systems can be heavy and may require 2 persons to lift.
The wall (and any wall covering) to which the Traka System is fixed must be made of low
flammability material (at least 94 UL-5V flammability class equivalent).
Traka Touch systems can be heavy and therefore require a strong wall to fix to. Fixings are not
included and so when selecting the appropriate fixings it is essential they are strong enough to
retain the system and not pull out from the wall.

5.2 WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE
Once you receive your Traka Touch system, please open the box and check you have the following…
If you are missing any of the above please contact Traka immediately.
In addition to the above, if you are adding an extension cabinet to an existing system you should also have the
following items:
•CAN Interface PCB
•Door Lock Extension Cable
•Ribbon Cable(s) (Cabinet to Cabinet connection)
NOTE: Traka do not provide wall fixings for your system. Please ensure you source appropriate fixings for
the type of wall you are fixing to.

5.3 TOOLS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION
Traka does not provide tools and certain materials for the installation of the Traka Touch, you will need to source the
following…
•Drill
•Wall Fixings (appropriate for the type of wall you are fixing to)
•Large Flat Headed Screwdriver
•Hammer
•20mm Grommet/Cable Gland
•20mm Conduit (if needed)
•4mm T-bar / Allen Key
•7mm Nut Spinner/7mm Wrench
•T30 Torx Pin Screwdriver
5.4 WALL PREPARATION
Using the below dimensioned drawings, ensure the area of wall is large enough to fit the system(s) and clear from any
obstructions. The chosen location for the main cabinet should be no further than 1 Metre from the mains spur.

NOTE: Extension cabinets are the same dimensions as the main cabinet excluding the Pod.

NOTE: Traka systems can be quite heavy and therefore need a strong wall to fix to. Fixings are not
included and so when selecting the appropriate fixings it is essential they are strong enough to retain the
Traka System and not pull out from the wall.

6. INSTALLING THE SYSTEM
Before installing your Traka Touch System you must ensure the following…
•The system is switched off and not yet connected to the mains.
•The fused mains spur (if applicable) is safe and ready for use with the Traka Touch system.
6.1 REMOVING THE RECEPTOR STRIP FRAME
To enable the cabinet to be fitted to the wall you must first remove the Receptor Strip Frame. If your system has
extension cabinets, the Receptor Strip Frame must be removed from these too.
1. Using one of the door master keys, manually release the door of the main system using the CAM lock on top of
the system.
2. The door will now pop open giving you access to the strip frame. Remove the 2 Torx Pin screws from the right
hand side of the receptor strip frame.
3. The strip frame will now pivot open to 90°. Ensure the system is supported at this point as the weight of the strip
frame will cause the system to lean forward.

4. Carefully disconnect the earth cable that links the strip frame to the cabinet at the bottom.
5. The receptor cable connects all the strips in the system to the Traka Touch PCB in the pod. There is a split in the
cable that is terminated at the top of the strip frame. Disconnect the receptor cable as shown below.
NOTE: If the cabinet is part of a system with extension cabinets, then the Receptor Cable will be connected
to the CAN Interface PCB located in the top of the cabinet. Disconnect the cable from the connector marked
‘RECEPTORS’ as shown in the image below.
6. The strip frame is held in the cabinet by two plungers, one at the top of the frame and the other at the bottom. To
remove the strip frame you must release both plungers and gently pull the strip frame forward. Please see the
section diagram below.
NOTE: The strip frame can be quite heavy, take care when removing it from the cabinet.
NOTE: Once you have removed the strip frame you will notice a washer placed over the bottom plunger.
Be sure not to lose or break the washer.

6.2 REMOVING THE CONTROL PANEL
1. Using one of the Master keys, open the control pod by turning the key 90° clockwise.
2. The pod front can now be leaned forward onto its restraining cable.
3. The following cables must be disconnected before the Control Panel can be removed:
1. Receptor Cable
2. Power, Battery, Door, Tamper Switch 2 and 3 cables and Reader cable (if applicable)
3. Speaker, Network and USB cables (if applicable)
4. Earth Cable
The images below show the locations of the cables that must be disconnected.

NOTE: If your system has extension cabinets, the door lock cable will be connected to the CAN Interface
PCB inside the cabinet and therefore will not need to be disconnected.
4. Once all of the relevant cables have been disconnected, the Control Panel can be removed by disengaging the 2
spring hinges.
5. Place the Control Panel to one side and move onto the next section.

6.3 REMOVING THE CABLE ACCESS PANELS (EXT. CABINETS ONLY)
If your system does not have extension cabinets you can skip this section.
Before you secure your cabinets to the wall you will need to remove the panel on the left hand side of each cabinet
except for the one that will be on the very end on the left. This is to allow a cable to run between each system.
1. Using a 7mm socket or equivalent, remove the four nuts on the inside of the system.
2. The panel can then be removed from the cabinet.

6.4 FIXING TO THE WALL
NOTE: Traka Systems can be heavy. The Touch system must be secured to the wall, as described in this
section, to eliminate risk of injury or damage. The system may also require two persons to lift it.
1. Locate the desired position on the wall you wish the Touch system and any extension cabinets (if applicable) to
go. The main cabinet should be no further than 1 Meter from the mains spur.
2. Mark and drill the centre hanging fixing point. To do this, either hold the system up against the wall in the desired
position and mark the wall through the hole, or measure to the hanging point using the system drawing in the
‘Wall Preparation’ section of this document.
3. Screw a fixing into the wall leaving slightly loose to enable the system to hang from it.
4. Hang the system on the fixing and whilst levelling with a spirit level, mark the wall at the remaining 6 fixing positions
in both the Cabinet and the Pod.
5. Place the system to one side and drill the marked fixing points.
6. Hang the system back on the hanging fixing point and secure to the wall with the remaining fixings.
7. If your system has extension cabinets, continue to fix these to the wall using the same method. Ensure the cabinets
are located in the correct order. For more information please refer to the ‘Extension Systems Overview’ section.

6.5 INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERIES
If your Traka Touch S system has been supplied in the UK it will already have 2 backup batteries fitted and connected,
in which case you can skip this section. If your system has been supplied outside of the UK it is likely that you will need
to install the backup batteries.
NOTE: For more information including battery specification please refer to the ‘Backup Battery’ section later
in this document.
1. The battery cables can be found coiled up in the base of the main cabinet. Connect the batteries as shown in the
diagram below.
NOTE: Ensure that the spade connectors are pushed fully onto the battery terminals. It is recommended
that insulation tape is wrapped around the battery to fully cover any exposed parts of the battery terminals.
2. The backup batteries can be secured in place using the 2 fitted brackets in the bottom of the cabinet. The red (+)
terminals should be positioned to the right of the cabinet. Remove the brackets, place the batteries in position and
then refit the brackets.

6.6 CONNECTING EXTENSION CABINETS
If your system does not have extension cabinets you can skip this section.
Within each system the Receptor link cable will be coiled up with the Interface PCB.
NOTE: If you are adding extension cabinets to an existing system, an Interface PCB will have been
provided for the existing system and must be fitted to the standoffs in the top of the cabinet as shown in
the image below.
1. If not already connected, connect the Receptor Cable to the Interface PCB in the main cabinet as shown below.
2. Thread the other end of the Receptor Cable through the cut-out in the left hand side of the cabinet.
3. Connect it to the neighbouring Interface PCB.
