1.3 Function
1.2 Intended use
The ATMOS patient chair E1 is equipped with an electro-
motive height adjustment for medical examinations. The
height adjustment is in nitely variable. The height is adjusted
by a closed, maintenance-free, electromotive drive. The
height-adjustable headrest is detachable. The arm rests
are separately foldable - synchronously coupling during in-
clination - arm rests remain in horizontal position. The chair
is controlled via foot switch.
Mechanical inclination of the back rest (+5° up to horizontal
position). Foldable foot rest.
Optional:
Moveable base plate left/right or forward/backward.
The ATMOS patient chair E1 is applied in ENT clinics and
practices.
By synchronous coupling of the backrest, arm rests and
foot support the chair can be quickly changed into a long
and solid couch. Comfortable deportment for the patient
at optimum examination position is guaranteed by a foot
support which can be folded up. The head of the patient
is laterally supported by the headrest; microscopic ear
examinations are thus decisively facilitated.
These operating instructions contain important notes on how to operate the
ATMOS Patient chair E1 safely, correctly and effectively. Their reading helps to avoid risks, and
also to reduce repair costs and down-time. That increases, amongst other things, the reliability and
service-life of the device.
These operating instructions serve not only for new operating personnel to be instructed in its use,
but also for use as a reference manual.
These operating instructions must always be kept available near the device.
Care and safety inspections in conjunction with professional execution provide for operational safety
and readiness for use of your ATMOS Patient chair E1 and are therefore a must besides regular
cleaning.
Repair work and safety inspections may be carried out only by expert personnel authorised by
ATMOS. By applying only original spare parts you will have the guarantee that operational safety,
readiness for work and the value of your ATMOS Patient chair E1 will be preserved.
● The product ATMOS Patient chair E1 bears CE marking according to the EC Directive of the
council for medical products 93/42/EEC and meets the basic requirements of annex I of this
directive.
● The patient chair E1 has been desinge in line with the EC Directive 93/42/EEC for medical
products (applied standards: DIN EN 60601-1, EN 60601-2). It is a medical device of class 1
according to the Medical Devices Act.
● Prior to start-up please peruse chapter 2.0 „For your safety“, in order to be prepared for any
possible dangerous situations.

1.0 Introduction
1.4 Scope of supply
●Prior to dispatch, the ATMOS patient chair E1 was subjected to an extensive functional test and has been carefully packed.
Nevertheless, please compare the contents of the shipment on completeness immediately upon receipt (see delivery note).
1.5 Transport and storage
● The transport of the device may be effected only in a dispatch
carton upholstered and offering suf cient protection.
● Please document and report damages in transit immediately.
For complaints or return deliveries, please use the enclosed
form QD 434.
●The unit must be allowed to stand for up to six hours at room
temperature prior to starting up for the  rst time following
transport at temperatures below freezing. The unit may not
be operated if it has not acclimatised as this might damage
the motor.
●Ambient conditions:

2.0 For your safety
• The ATMOS patient chair E1 is designed in accordance
with IEC 601/EN 60601. The chair conforms to VDE
protection class I. It may only be connected to a correctly
installed shockproof socket.
• The chair may only be operated under constant supervision
(IEC 601-1/EN 60601-1).
• Prior to starting the chair for the  rst time, check whether
the supply voltage indicated on the line voltage selector
corresponds to the value of your local mains supply.
• The power cable supplied with the chair (or an equivalent
one) must be used exclusively for connection to the mains
supply.
• Observe correct wiring when installing plugs speci c to
foreign countries:
green/yellow: ground conductor
blue: neutral conductor
black or brown: phase
• Prior to starting the chair, check whether connecting cables
show signs of damages. Damaged cables must be re-
placed.
• For the purpose of separating the chair from the mains, the
mains plug must always be pulled out of the wall socket  rst
before unplugging the power cable from the chair. Never
touch power cord or plugs with wet hands.
• The ambient conditions speci ed in section 9.0 "Technical
speci cations" must be strictly observed.
• The ATMOS patient chair E1 is not intended for operation
in areas of medical rooms subject to danger of explosion.
Areas subject to explosion hazards may be created by the
use of in ammable anaesthetics, skin cleansers and disin-
fectants.
• The user must be familiar with the operation of the chair.
• ATMOS cannot be held liable for injury to persons or
damage to property if
- the parts used are not original ATMOS parts,
- the user instructions given in this manual are dis-
regarded.
• Before using the ATMOS patient chair E1, please
carefully read and observe the safety instructions and
recommendations listed in this manual.
• The electric motor is protected by an integrated thermo
protection switch. After 2,5 minutes of continued opera-
tion, the motor needs a cool down period of approx. 10
minutes. If the thermo protection switch activates, the
motor needs a cool down period of approx. 20 minutes
• The device may not be operated in:
- explosion-hazardous areas
- humid areas.
• In case of malfunction or abnormal noises, please imme-
diately disconnect the chair from the mains supply. Please
contact service technician.
• The device may only be used for the purpose described
in these instructions.

3.0 Setting up and starting up
3.1 Setting up
 Set up the device on a level,  rm surface.
Mains voltage and fuses:
Mains voltage: 230V / 50Hz (120V/60Hz)
Fuses: Thermal fuse: 3 A (230V)
Thermal fuse: 6 A (120V)
3.2 Starting up
● Place the chair in its designated position. Make sure,  oor
is level and even.
●Check the upper part on free rotation.
● The base plate should be  xed to the  oor with suitable
screws.
● Prior to  rst operation, pay attention to the safety informa-
tion in chapter 2.0.
●The auto circuit brake on the connection board must be
pressed in.
●Connect the foot switch to the socket provided for this
purpose. The design of the socket rules out a mix up of
connections.
●Finally, connect power cord.

3.3 Fastening the chair
Fix the chair to the  oor with the enclosed fastening set. First,
remove the plastic covering from the base plate and fasten the
bottom plate with the dowels and screws.
The fastening set comprises:
– 4 Fischer dowels S 10
– 4 Screws RS 100 Z
Necessary drills:
– ø 10 mm
– depth 100 mm
3.4 Power connection
The patient chair E1 is delivered with an IEC power connector.
It is inserted into the IEC power socket on the rear of the base
and linked with a properly installed earthing contact socket.
The electrical connection values (voltage and frequency) and
the value for the melting fuses are indicated on the data plate
above the connection socket.
The chair can only be separated from the mains supply by
disconnecting the mains plug from the wall socket.
The chair is not destined for use in explosion-
hazardous areas.

There is no visual indication that the chair is
mains-supplied!
During non-usage, service or repair work and
during cleaning procedures, the chair must be
separated from the mains supply by disconnecting
the mains plug from the wall socket.


3.0 Installation and start-up

4.0 Operating
Chair height adjustment is controlled by the foot switch.
Foot switch: left button - chair up
right button- chair down.
The arm rests are foldable. This facilitates, for example, handicapped
people to change from the wheelchair to the examination chair.
The back rest inclination can be operated by the later operating elements
at the back rest.
The foot rest is synchronously coupled with the arm rest up to hori-
zontal position.
The electric motor is protected by an integrated thermo protection switch.
After 2,5 minutes of continued operation, the motor needs a cool down
period of approx. 10 minutes. If the thermo protection switch activates,
the motor needs a cool down period of approx. 20 minutes.

4.1 Adjusting the seat height
The seat height is adjusted with the foot switch ( g. 1.):
operating lever to the right = upwards
operating lever to the left = downwards
The Patient chair E1 is additionally equipped with an "automa-
tic down"-function so that the upper part of the chair can be
adjusted to its lowest position by a short movement with the
pedal regulator ( g. 1). To do so, move the pedal regulator to
the left (for not more than 0.5 seconds). If you want to interrupt
the downward movement slightly shift the pedal regulator to
any direction.

4.3 Adjusting the arm rests
The arm rests ( g. 3) can be individually swivelled off
backwards.

4.2 Adjusting the backrest
– Press lever element (,  g. 2) downwards,
– adjust backrest to the desired position,
– release lever element which will then return to its initial
position,
– backrest and foot support are arrested.
Arm rests, foot section and backrest are coupled and change
their positions synchronously.

4.4 Adjusting the head rest
The headrest can be adjusted to a lower position by simply
pulling out the retaining band; a higher position is reached by
pushing the band in. For removing the headrest, pull the retaining
band completely out of the backrest.

If required, the foot rest can be folded down ( g. 5).

Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents. For the upholstery usual dry foam may be used.
Suitable for disinfection is, for example, Biguamed - a product from Desomed AG - Dr. Trippen GmbH Freiburg/Germany.

5.2 Cleaning the unit's surfaces
If liquid has penetrated the unit, it may not be operated again until it has been checked by the authorised customer service centre.
●The surfaces of the ATMOS patient chair E1 are resistant against all the surface disinfectants. Nevertheless after any length
of time discolourations could possibly develop.
Prior to cleaning and surface disinfection, please disconnect the chair from the mains supply.
●The unit itself can be wiped off with a moist (not wet) cloth.

The described measures to clean and to disinfect or
sterilize do not rule out regulations valid for the
particular company!
In chapter 5.3 Recommended disinfectants“ all surface and
instrument disintectants are stated which are suitable for
disinfection.
 Always observe the concentration speci cations
and instructions by the respective manufacturer
Do NOT use
- disinfectants containing concentrated organic
or anorganic acids or bases, since these may cause
corrosion damages.
- disinfectants containing chloramides, phenol
derivatives or anionic tensides, since these may
cause stress cracks in the plastics used.

■ Discolouration may result if disinfectants containing aldehydes and amines are used on the same object.

6.0 Maintenance and service
Except the possible exchange of fuses, the ATMOS patient
chair E1 is maintenance-free (see chapter 6.1).
Nevertheless, if a functional defect should appear, please inform
the authorised ATMOS service.
It is absolutely necessary to disconnect the chair from
the mains supply prior to exchanging the fuse!

6.1 Fuse exchange
●Open the fuse support (,  g. 6) by turning it anti-
clockwise,
●exchange the fuse,
●close the fuse support again by turning it clockwise.


● The ATMOS patient chair E1 does not contain any hazardous materials.
● The housing is recyclable.
● Device and accessories must be decontaminated prior to disposal.
● Please take care on a careful separation of the different materials.
● Please observe national disposal regulations (e.g. waste incineration).
Disposal within the EC
The device described above is a high-quality medical product with a long service life. After its life cycle it must be disposed
of professional. According to the EC directives (WEEE and RoHS) the device may not be disposed of in domestic waste.
Please observe existing national laws and rules for disposal of old devices.
Disposal within the Federal Republic of Germany
In the Federal Republic of Germany the law for electrical devices (ElektroG) rules the disposal of electrical devices. In order
to guarantee a proper disposal of your old device, please either pass on your old device to your specialised dealer or send
it directly to ATMOS MedizinTechnik for a professional disposal.
Before disposal respectively before transport all parts, which came into contact with the patient must be thoroughly cleaned,
disinfected/sterilised. The device surface must be disinfected.

user of the ATMOS Patient chair E1 should ensure that it is used in such an environment.

a The eld strength of stationary transmitters, such as base stations of cellular phones and mobile terrain radio
equipment, amateur radio transmitters, cbm broadcast and TV stations cannot be predestined exactly.
To determine the electromagnetic environment in regard to stationary transmitters, a study of the location is to
be considered. If the measured eld strength at the location where the ATMOS Patient chair E1 is used
exceeds the above compliance level, the ATMOS Patient chair E1 is to be observed to verify the intended use.
If abnormal performance characteristics are noted, additional measures might be necessary, e. g. a changed
arrangement or another location for the device.
b Within the frequency range of 150 kHz to 80 MHz the eld strength is to be below 3 V/m.
