1. Foreword
Avant Tecno Oy would like to thank you for your purchase of this attachment for your Avant loader. It has
been designed and manufactured based on years of experience on product development and manufacturing.
By familiarizing yourself with this manual and following the instructions, you ascertain your safety and ensure
the reliable operation and long service life of the equipment. Read the instructions carefully before starting to
use the equipment or performing maintenance.
The purpose of this manual is to help you to:
operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner
observe and prevent any hazardous situations
keep the equipment intact and ensure a long service life
With these instructions, even an inexperienced user can use the attachment and loader safely. The manual
includes important instructions for experienced AVANT operators as well. Ensure that all persons using the
loader have received proper guidance and familiarised themselves with the manual of the loader, each
attachment that are used, and all safety instructions before using the equipment. Using the equipment for
other purposes or use in any other way than described in this manual is prohibited. Keep this manual at hand
throughout the service life of the equipment. If you sell or transfer the equipment, be sure to hand over this
manual to the new owner. If the manual is lost or damaged, you can request a new one from your Avant
dealer or from the manufacturer.
In addition to the safety instructions included in this manual, you must observe all occupational safety
regulations, local laws, and other regulations concerning the use of the equipment. Particularly the regulations
concerning the use of the equipment on public road areas must be observed. Contact your Avant dealer for
more information about local requirements before you operate the loader on road areas.
Contact your local AVANT dealer for any questions, service, spare parts or about any problems that may
occur with the operation of your machine.

2. Designed purpose of use
The AVANT Backhoe 260 with remote control is an attachment that is intended to be used with AVANT multi
purpose loaders that are listed in Table 1 below. The backhoe is controlled with its independent radio remote
control and proportionally controlled valve system, which ensures smooth movements and precise control.
Attaching the backhoe to a loader is quick and easy and takes only a couple of minutes. In addition to the
quick coupling plate of the loader, a supporting bracket is also connected on the loader boom for greater
stability.
The radio remote control system allows the operator to stand close to the unit when digging and have a
perfect, unrestricted field of vision to the work area. This is very useful for utility jobs, cemeteries and similar
places where space is limited and exceptionally exact digging with total visibility is necessary. User of the
radio control unit must wear the provided shoulder harness for increased ergonomics, to avoid dropping of the
control unit, and to avoid accidental control movements while holding the control unit.
The maximum range of the radio remote control system is up to 100 meters in optimal conditions. The radio
remote control unit is equipped with a rechargeable battery. A fully charged battery will last for approximately
11 hours of work. The battery charging time of the unit is approximately 4 hours. The battery is possible to
recharge with an 80-250 V mains current charger. The charger is included in the system.
The radio remote control system is also possible to use with a cable control. The cable is useful in particular in
conditions where it is not possible to establish a radio link between radio remote control units, or when using
radio frequencies is not allowed or is dangerous, or a fully charged battery is not available. When using the
cable control, all the working and control features remain the same. The length of the control cable is 5
meters.
The standard bucket is a 400 mm bucket with teeth. Several bucket options are available to suit the backhoe
for the digging task. The buckets are coupled with a standard type S30-150 tool-operated quick coupling
system, allowing to change the bucket easily. A tilting bucket adapter is also available. The tilting adapter
includes the same bucket coupling. To make it easy to install the tilting adapter, the backhoe is equipped with
hydraulic quick couplings for the tilting adapter as standard.
Using the digger for other purposes than excavating work with original buckets, tools, or options is prohibited.
Using too large bucket, or handling too heavy loads, cause the risk of tipping the loader-backhoe combination
over. The backhoe must not be used for lifting of objects. The backhoe is not intended for dredging, it must not
be immersed in water.
The basic set-up and use of the remote control system, and most common possible error messages are
covered with this manual. However, more detailed information about maintenance and troubleshoot can be
found in the instructions of the remote control system. Contact your Avant dealer or authorized service if
necessary.
The Backhoe 260 with remote control is not designed for any other use than what is specified in this manual
and must not be used for any other purposes than intended. The Backhoe 260 with remote control is a
product of its own. The control unit and remote-control systems cannot be retrofitted to a standard backhoe
260.
The attachment has been designed to require as little maintenance as possible. The operator can perform
regular maintenance tasks. All repair work can’t be performed by the operator, and demanding repair and
maintenance operations are to be left for professional maintenance. All maintenance work must be done using
proper safety equipment. Spare parts must be identical with original specifications, which can be ensured by
using only original spare parts. A separate spare parts catalogue may be available, consult your Avant dealer.
Familiarise yourself with the manual's instructions regarding service and maintenance. Please contact your
AVANT retailer if you have additional questions about the operation or maintenance of the equipment, or if
you require spare parts or maintenance services.

Various width options are available to best suite each task and loader model. When choosing a bucket, the
intended use of the bucket, and the model of the loader should be considered, as shown in Table 1. If the
loader is fitted with other than standard tyres, or differs from original specifications, consult your Avant dealer
to choose the best bucket.
It is recommended to use the attachment only with loaders marked with •in Table 1. When using with models
marked with (•), full performance may not be achieved. Additional counterweights may also be required. For
compatibility with a model not shown in table, contact your Avant dealer.

3. Safety instructions for using the attachment
Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly
powerful and improper or careless use or maintenance may cause serious personal injury or property
damage. Due to this, all operators must carefully familiarise themselves about correct use and the operator's
manuals of both the loader and the attachment before starting operation. Do not use the attachment if you
have not completely familiarised yourself with its operation and the related hazards.
DANGER
Misuse, careless use, or using an attachment that is in poor condition, may
cause risk of serious injuries.
Familiarise yourself with the controls of the loader,
correct coupling procedure, and the correct way to operate the attachment at
a safe
area. Study especially how to stop the equipment in a safe manner. Read all safety
precautions carefully.
Read all safety instructions carefully before handling the attachment
WARNING
When attaching an attachment to the loader, ensure that the locking pins of the
loader's quick attach plate are in the lower position and that they have locked
the attachment to the loader. Never lift or move an unlocked attachment.

The Backhoe 260 with remote control is designed to be used by one operator at a
time. Do not let others near the danger area of the equipment when it is in use.

Always transport the attachment as low as possible to keep the centre of gravity low,
and keep the telescopic boom retracted during driving.
Risk of impact and crushing - Stay clear of the work area of the backhoe. Never
stay next or under the moving parts of the backhoe. Stay at a position where you
have good visibility to the work area, and where the backhoe can't reach.
Risk of electric shock - Plan all excavation tasks ahead before you dig! Find out
about the possibility of having any electric cable, gas pipe, water pipe,
communications cable or similar buried in the ground. Consult local authorities,
electric, water, and gas companies, and other relevant sources befo
re starting to use
the equipment. Your area may also have a specific hotline or helpdesk available, or a
special permit may be required. If uncertain in any way, seek for more information
before starting to dig.
Risk of collision - Prevent accidental movements. Turn the auxiliary hydraulics
control lever of the loader to its neutral position immediately after active use of the
backhoe to prevent accidental movements of the backhoe.
Risk of serious injuries - Switch off the radio remote control when not using it.
Always switch off the transmitter when not using the radio remote control to control
the backhoe, or when the work is otherwise interrupted, even for short periods.
Always lower the bucket of the backhoe on the ground and follow the safe stop
ping
procedure, even during short breaks.
Risk of crushing and falling objects - The attachment must not be used for any
other purposes than intended.
Never use the backhoe to lift objects or loads other
than materials that are normally handled with a
bucket. Never suspend any loads or
attach other tools than a bucket to the backhoe.

WARNING
Tipping over hazard - Note that the excavation or trench may suddenly cave in.
Exercise extreme caution when driving near ditches or embankments, and avoid
driving alon
g a ditch or trench, as the machine could suddenly tip over if an edge
caves in. Avoid driving along trenches and keep at least a distance equal to width of
a trench.
Crushing hazard - Make sure that the bucket is securely fitted. Loose or falling
bucket can cause serious injuries.
Risk of crushing - Keep in mind that the loader and backhoe booms can be
lowered or tilted even if the engine has been shut down.
Always lower the bucket
of the backhoe on the ground and follow the safe stopping procedure
before leaving
the driver's seat. Leaving the bucket hanging above the ground can cause risk of
injury if anyone gets near the suspended bucket. Keep hands and feet away from
moving parts.
When using the remote control with a control cable, make sure that the cable of the
transmitting unit and the corresponding connectors are intact. Route the cable in
such a way as to prevent it from being getting squeezed or strained by moving parts
of the backhoe or the loader. Prevent the cable from laying on sharp
edges that can
damage the cable's protective sheath. Allow the cable to lay on the ground, do not
pull it tight. Do not use the cable for lifting the transmitting unit.
The remote control user must wear the radio remote control with an appropriate
sho
ulder harness A426437 to avoid its fall, loss, loss of control, accidental contact
and improper use.
Operate only on well lit areas. If extra caution is required to avoid hitting dangerous
or fragile materials in the ground, have another person nearby
to spot possible buried
items.
Do not use the backhoe on horizontally tilted terrain. Ensure the stability of the loader
and firmness of the ground also on even terrain.
Pay attention to the surroundings and any other persons and machines moving in the
vicinity. Pay attention to the contours of the terrain and other hazards, such as
branches and trees that can reach to the driver's area, loose rocks, and slippery
surfaces.
When removing the backhoe from the loader, ensure that it is secured against
accidental movement. Familiarise yourself with the instructions concerning taking the
digger off from the loader and storage.
Make sure that overhead clearance is sufficient. Hitting an overhead obstacle may
cause the loader to tip over. Keep a safe d
istance from electric cables, lamps, or
other electric systems; hitting live parts may cause electric shock.
Ensure that ventilation is sufficient when operating indoors. Do not operate the loader
in closed spaces regardless of the engine or fuel type.
Exhaust gases may
concentrate to hazardous levels.
Operate the controls of the loader in a slow and calm manner. Be careful when lifting
load to high level or lifting load from high. Avoid sudden changes in speed or
direction to maintain balance of the
loader especially when handling heavy loads.
Drive slowly and carefully especially on inclined terrain or slippery surfaces.
Carrying heavy loads can shift the centre of gravity of the loader and lead to tipping
over of the loader. Always transport the
load as low and close to the machine as
possible with the telescopic boom completely retracted to keep the centre of gravity
low and for the best stability.

WARNING
The stability of the loader may change when leaving the driver’s seat, leading to
tipping over o
f the machine. Always remember that the boom may lower
unexpectedly due to loss of stability, mechanical fault, or if another person operates
the controls of the loader, leading to crushing hazard. The attachment or the loader
are not intended to be left t
o keep a load elevated for longer periods. Lower the
attachment before leaving the driver's seat.
Observe maximum load indicated in the operator’s manual of the loader. Be
especially careful when the load sensor indicator is activated.
Make sure that the surface can bear the total load. Also follow the correct tyre
pressure settings.
Make sure to use only an attachment that is in good condition. Check the attachment
thoroughly in regular intervals. Do not modify the attachment in a manner that woul
d
affect its safety. It is prohibited to drill holes on the attachment, and welding or other
means of fixing hooks or other objects on the attachment is strictly prohibited.
Use the attachment only for its intended purpose. Other use may create unnecessary
safety risks, and the equipment may get damaged.
Make sure that the loader is equipped with necessary safety components, and that
they are in working condition. Seat belt must be used. If there are specific hazards
related to the operating area, use appropriate safety equipment.
Also read the safety instructions and correct use of the loader from the operator's
manual of the loader.
Remember to wear proper personal protective equipment:
The noise level at the driver's seat may exceed 85 dB(A
) depending on loader
model and operating cycle. Extended exposure to loud noise can cause
hearing impairment. Wear hearing protection while working with the loader.
Wear protective gloves.
Wear safety boots whenever working with the loader.
Wear safety glasses e.g. when handling hydraulic components.
When working at construction sites, a safety helmet is recommended and may
be mandatory in addition to the falling objects protective structure (FOPS) on
the loader. Find out about other necessary
safety equipment at your specific
work site.
DANGER
Risk of crushing -
Never allow anyone to get under the raised boom of the backhoe,
bucket, or loader boom.
Keep in mind that the loader and backhoe booms can be
lowered or tilted even if the engine
has been shut down. The loader or the backhoe are not
intended to be left to keep a load elevated for longer periods. Always lower the attachment
to a safe position before leaving the driver's seat. Follow safe stopping procedure.

Safe stopping of the attachment, before going near the attachment:
WARNING
Always stop the attachment following safe stopping procedure before leaving
the driver's seat.
Safe stopping procedure prevents all unintentional movements of
the attachment. Note that the loader boo
m can move down even if the engine of the
loader is turned off. Safe stopping procedure:
1.
Turn the backhoe to its middle position and lower the bucket of the backhoe
flat on the ground.
2. Turn off the auxiliary hydraulic oil flow of the loader. Release auxili
ary
hydraulics control lever of the loader to its neutral position.
3.
Release residual pressure from the hydraulic system; move all hydraulic
control levers to their extreme positions a couple of times. Move the control
joysticks of the backhoe remote control to their extreme positions.
4.
Disable the radio remote control by switching off the radio remote control unit
(transmitter).
5. Switch off power from the backhoe control system (receiving unit).
6. Shut down the loader engine and lock the parking brake.
7. Prevent starting of the machine, remove ignition key.
Special training, license, or permit may be required to operate the equipment at your
area. Depending on area and work site, local requirements may mandate that the
operator has received proper training o
n how to operate the equipment safely and about
safety precautions, including action during emergencies. Find out about possible
requirements before operating the equipment.

4.1 Information about Radio remote control
This attachment is equipped with a radio remote control system working in the frequency range 863-870 MHz.
It can be used within the member countries of the EU (European Union) and the EFTA (European Free Trade
Association). If you are unsure about the model of the backhoe, check on the technical data plate of the unit in
which markets the radio remote control can be used.
Unauthorized modifications of the frequency or other parameters of the radio transmitter are prohibited.
Modified or faulty radio equipment can cause the system to not comply with local regulations.
This model of the backhoe must not be exported to or operated outside of EU and EFTA area. Other Backhoe
models may be available for different market areas, contact your Avant dealer for more information.
The operating frequency of the radio remote control system is regulated by local or
market area specific laws and standards. In order for the entire control system to be
compliant with laws and regulations, the system must be used only in the area that is
d
esignated in the technical information of the Backhoe and its control system. The
system must not be used if it does not comply with local laws, regulations, or standards.
Avant Tecno Oy cannot be held responsible if the radio remote control is set with
frequencies that are forbidden in the country of use.
4.2 Safety labels and main components of the attachment
Listed below are the labels and markings on the attachment. They must be visible and readable on the
equipment. Replace any unclear or missing label. New labels are available via your retailer or contact
information provided on the cover.
WARNING
Make sure all warning decals are readable.
The warning labels contain important
safety information and they help to identify and remember the hazards rel
ated to the
equipment. Replace damaged or missing warning labels with new ones.

To apply a new label: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove all grease. Allow it to dry completely. Peel off

5. Attaching the attachment
The backhoe 260 is delivered with a 400 mm bucket fitted and it is ready for use as delivered. When coupling
the backhoe onto the loader, in addition to the quick coupling and connecting the hydraulic fittings, the
supporting bracket (also called the top link) must also be mounted.
5.1 Attaching the backhoe to the loader
Attaching the backhoe to the loader is quick and easy, but it must be done carefully. The backhoe can easily
tip over on the loader or the operator, if it has not been properly attached. To prevent hazardous situations,
always follow the attachment mounting instructions provided in the following pages. Also remember the safety
instructions listed in Chapter 3.
WARNING
Crushing risk - Make sure that an unlocked attachment will not move or fall over.
D
o not stay in the area between the attachment and the loader. Mount the attachment
only on level surface.
Never move or lift an attachment that has not been locked.
Avant quick coupling system:
Step 1:
Lift the quick attach plate locking pins up and
turn them backwards into the slot
so that they are locked in the upper position.

If your loader is equipped with a hydraulic attachment locking system, see
additional instructions about the use of the locking system from the relevant
manuals.
Ensure that
the hydraulic hoses and the electric harness are not in the way
during installation.
Step 2:
Turn the quick attach plate hydraulically to an obliquely forward position.

Drive the loader onto the attachment. If your loader is equipped with a
telescopic boom, you can utilise this.

Align the upper pins of the loader’s quick coupling plate so that they are under
the corresponding brackets of the attachment.
Step 3:
Lift the boom slightly –
pull the boom control lever backward to raise the
attachment off the ground.

Turn the boom control lever left to turn the bottom section of the quick attach
plate onto the attachment.
Lock the locking pins manually or lock the hydraulic locking.
Always check the locking of both locking pins.

Step 4:
After the locking pins are positively locked, lock the support bracket (top link)


Secure the pin
with the cotter
pin.
Always connect the support bar before using the backhoe. The support bar stabilizes the
attachment and prevents the backhoe from tilting forward during its use.
WARNING
Risk of crushing - Avoid tipping over the attachment. Excessive tilt
ing or lifting of an
unlocked attachment increases the risk of tipping the attachment over. Do not use the
automatic locking of the locking pins when the attachment is lifted more than one meter
from the ground. If the locking pins do not return to the nor
mal position when tilting, do
not tilt or raise the attachment any more. Lower the attachment on the ground and
secure the locking manually.

WARNING
Risk of falling objects -
Prevent dropping of
attachment.
An attachment that has not been completely locked to the
loader may fall on the boom or towards the operator, or
fall under the loader during driving, causing loss of
control of the loader. Never move or lift an attachment
that has not been locked. Before moving or lifting the
attachment, ma
ke sure that the locking pins are in the
lower position and come through the fasteners on the
attachment on both sides.
5.2 Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic hoses
On Avant loaders the hydraulic hoses are connected using the multi connector system. If you have an Avant
300-700 series loader with the conventional quick couplers and wish to change to the multi connector system,
contact your Avant dealer or service point for instructions or installation services.
WARNING
Risk of movement of the attachment and ejection of hydraulic oil -
Never connect
or disconnect quick couplings or other hydraulic components while the control

pressurized. Connecting or disconnect
ing the hydraulic couplings while the system is
pressurized may lead to unintended movements of the attachment, or ejection of high-
pressure fluid, which can cause serious injuries or burns. Follow safe stopping procedure
before disconnecting hydraulics.
Keep all fittings as clean as possible; use the protective caps on both the attachment and
the loader. Dirt, ice, etc. may make using the fittings significantly more difficult. Never
leave the hoses hanging on the ground; place the couplings onto the
holder on the
attachment.
Connecting the multiconnector system:
1.
Align the pins of the attachment connector with corresponding
holes of the loader connector. The multiconnector will not connect
if the attachment connector is upside down.
2. Connect and
lock the multiconnector by turning the lever towards
the loader.
The lever should move easily all the way to its locking position. If the lever does not slide smoothly, check the
alignment and position of the connector and clean the connectors. Also shut down the loader and release the
residual hydraulic pressure.

To disconnect the multiconnector system:
Before disconnecting put the attachment down on a solid and even
surface.
1. Switch off the auxiliary hydraulics of the loader.
2. While pushing unlock b
utton, turn the lever to disconnect the
connector.
3.
After ending operation put the multiconnector on its holder on the
attachment.
Disconnecting hydraulic hoses:
Before disconnecting the fittings, lower the attachment to safe position on solid and level surface. Turn the
control lever of the auxiliary hydraulics to its neutral position.
When uncoupling the attachment, always disconnect the hydraulic couplings before
unlocking the quick attach plate, to prevent hose damage and any oil spills. Reinstal
l the
protective caps on the fittings to prevent impurities from entering the hydraulic system.
Releasing residual hydraulic pressure:
In case residual pressure is left in the hydraulic system of the attachment, it is often possible to disconnect the
hydraulic couplings, but it may be difficult to connect them the next time. If the fittings will not connect, the
residual pressure must be released by turning the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader, when the
engine is turned off. To make sure that there will not be residual pressure in the hydraulic system of the
attachment, shut down the loader engine and move the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader back
and forth before disconnecting the couplings.

5.3 Electric connection
Electric functions of the attachment:
The receiving unit of the backhoe, including the radio receiver and electrically controlled hydraulic valves,
need electric supply from the loader in order to operate. Electric power to the receiver can be supplied with the
Attachment control switch pack of the loader, or with the standard electric harness that is supplied with the
attachment.
5.3.1 To connect the electric harness of the attachment to the loader
Starting form year 2016, there is an integrated electric plug in the multiconnector of the attachment. However,
a separate electric harness is also supplied with the attachment, to make it possible to connect and use the
attachment with loaders that are not equipped with Attachment control switch pack.
There are three ways to connect the electric connector, depending on the equipment on the loader and the
attachment:
1. If your loader is not equipped with the
attachment control switch pack:
Use the separate cable kit with a switch that is
supplied with the attachment. Connect th
is cable to
the 12 V electric socket near the operator's seat of
the loader, and to the electric plug of the
attachment.

manual of the loader.
2. ON-OFF switch
Select the location of the switch in the cab so
that it is easily accessible but will not be used
inadvertently.
This cable with a switch can be used only to
control the rotation of the chute.
3.
Connect to the electric plug of the
attachment.
If the attachment is equipped with an electric
plug that is integrated to the multiconnector
of the attachment, disconnect the electric
cable from the multiconnector.

2. If your loader is

equipped with the attachment control switch
pack, and
the loader is manufactured after 2016:
If the loader is equipped with the attachment
control switch pack, and the electric socket
integrated in the multiconnector, the electric

arness of the attachment is connected when the
multiconnector is coupled. Clean both
multiconnectors before connecting the
multiconnector.
The separate cable harness A34731 is not needed
when the loader is equipped with the Attachment
control switch pack.

equipment moves.
With the help of the attachment control switch pack av
ailable for the loader, the
attachment control switches are easily accessible at the end of the boom control lever.
