1.PressandveryquicklyreleasetheWLANpairingbuttononthecamera.
2.PresstheWLANpairingbuttononthewirelessaccesspointwithin120secondsfrompushingthebuttononthecamera.
3.MakesuretheLEDindicatorshowssteadygreenfor10seconds,thismeansthatthecameraisconnected.
4.GotoSettings>System>WirelessandturntheWLANpairingbuttonofftopreventunauthorizedWLANpairing.
Ifthewirelessaccesspointdoesnotsupportpush-buttonconguration,youhavetocongurethewirelessnetworkmanually,see

1.Useanetworkcabletoconnectthecameratothenetwork.
2.Makesuretheaccesspointisupandrunning.
3.Logintotheproduct’swebpages,seeFindthedeviceonthenetworkonpage4.
4.GotoSettings>System>Wireless.
5.Inthelist,selectthewirelessnetworkorgotoAddanothernetworkandadditmanuallywiththeSSID.
6.Enterthepasswordfortheaccesspoint.
7.ClickSave.
8.Disconnectthenetworkcablefromthecamera.
9.MakesuretheLEDindicatorshowssteadygreenfor10seconds,thismeansthatthecameraisconnected.
IfthenetworkissetupwithanothersecuritymethodthanWPA2-PSK,seeAdvancedwirelesssettingsonpage13.

Important
Axisdevicessendtheinitiallysetpasswordincleartextoverthenetwork.Toprotectyourdeviceaftertherstlogin,set
upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchangethepassword.
Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforyourdataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasthey
maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations.
Toprotectyourdatawestronglyrecommendthatyou:
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•Changethepasswordatarecurringinterval,atleastonceayear.

Selectexposuremode
Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproveimagequalityfor
specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>mage>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
ExposureSettings
Exposureistheamountoflightthecamera’ssensorcapturesforascene.Toomuchlightresultsinawashedoutimageandtoo
littlelightresultsinadarkimage.
Conguretheexposuresettingstosuittheimagequalityrequirementsinrelationtolighting,framerateandbandwidth
considerations.
Exposurevalue-Clickinthebartone-tunetheexposure.
Exposurecontrol-Selectasuitableoptiontocontrolexposure.
Formostscenes,theAutomaticoptionwillprovidethebestresults.Theshutterspeedisautomaticallysettoproduceoptimum
imagequality.
Fluorescentlampsorotherlightsourcescansometimescauseickeringintheimage.Toreduceickerintheimage,selecttheFlicker
optionthatmatchesthepowerlinefrequency.
TheHoldcurrentoptionlocksthecurrentexposuresettings.
Viewarea
Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.Youcanstreamandstoreviewareasinsteadofthefullviewtominimizebandwidth
andstorageneeds.IfyouenablePTZforaviewarea,youcanpan,tiltandzoomwithinit.Byusingviewareasyoucanremoveparts
ofthefullview,forexample,thesky.

Whenyousetupaviewarea,werecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea
size.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,
whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.
Hidepartsoftheimagewithprivacmasks
Whatisaprivacymask?
Aprivacymaskisauser-denedareathatpreventsusersfromviewingapartofthemonitoredarea.Inthevideostream,privacy
masksappearasblocksofsolidcolor.
You’llseetheprivacymaskonallsnapshots,recordedvideo,andlivestreams.
YoucanusetheVAPIX®applicationprogramminginterface(API)toturnofftheprivacymasks.
Important
Usingmultipleprivacymasksmayaffecttheproduct’sperformance.
Note
IfyouviewthevideostreamoverHDMIandrestarttheproduct,theprivacymaskswilldisappear.Toshowtheprivacy
masksagain,restartthevideostream.
Createaprivacymask
Tocreateaprivacymask,gotoSettings>Privacymask.
Improvefacialrecognition
Tobetterrecognizethefaceofapersonpassingbythecamera,youcansettheoptimalpixelresolutionwiththecamera’spixel
counter.
1.GotoSettings>System>Orientationandclick.
2.Adjustthesizeandplacementoftherectangleinthecamera’sliveviewaroundtheareaofinterest,forexamplewhere
thefacesofpassingpersonsareexpectedtoappear.Youcanthenseethenumberofpixelsrepresentedbythesidesof
therectangle.

Youcanuseanobjectofaknownsizeintheviewasareferencetodecidehowmuchresolutionisneededforrecognition.

1.Dependingonyourdevice,turnthecameraorthe3-axislensinthecamera90°or270°.
2.Ifthedevicedoesn’trotatetheviewautomatically,logintothewebpageandgotoSettings>System>Orientation.
3.Click.

Reducenoiseinlow-lightconditions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:

Increasingthemaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Theshutterspeedshouldbeasslowaspossible,whichmeansyoushouldsetmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblevalue.
•Reducesharpnessintheimage.
Handlesceneswithstrongbacklight
Dynamicrangeisthedifferenceinlightlevelsinanimage.Insomecasesthedifferencebetweenthedarkestandthebrightest
areascanbesignicant.Theresultisoftenanimagewhereeitherthedarkorthebrightareasarevisible.Widedynamicrange
(WDR)makesbothdarkandbrightareasoftheimagevisible.

Choosevideocompressionformat
Decidewhichcompressionmethodtousebasedonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The
availableoptionsare:
MotionJPEG
MotionJPEGorMJPEGisadigitalvideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEGimages.Theseimagesarethen
displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion
videotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage
containedinthestream.
H.264orMPEG-4Part10/AVC
Note
H.264isalicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Installingadditionalunlicensed
copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.
H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.rseenanotherway,highervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
