1.0 Introduction
1.1 Audience
This manual provides information related to
the installation, operation, and maintenance of
the Medical Vacuum (MV) Filter Modules manu-
factured by BeaconMedæs. Service information
contained in this manual is intended for use by
technicians or personnel qualied to repair and
servicemedicalequipment.
1.2 Denition of Statements

1.3 Product Description
TheMVFilterModulesaredesignedtobealter
for the central vacuum system in hospitals and
surgerycentersandarelocatedintheplantroom
(orbasement)ofthesefacilities.
Theltersaredesignedtoprotectthevacuumsys-
temfromliquid,solid,orbacterialcontamination.
Thereisatransparentdrainaskonthebottom
ofeachlterthatcollectsliquidsandcanbeeas-
ilyremovedforsterilization.Theltersareplaced
beforethe vacuum system.Byltering bacterial
contaminationbeforethevacuumsystem,thel-
tersnotonlyprotectthevacuumsystem,butalso
themenandwomenwhoservicethevacuumsys-
tem.Themovingaircreatedbythevacuumsys-
tem eventually gets exhausted into the outside
air.Theltersalsoprotectpeopleinthecommu-
nitywheretheexhaustgasesarebeingreleased
intotheoutsideair.
1.4 Environmental Considerations
TheMVFilterModulesaretobeinstalledinaccor-
dance with requirements stated by NFPA 99, ISO
7396-1,HTM02-01,andallapplicablelocalcodes.
1.5 Environmental Declarations
Disposal
General

Recycling and disposal policies are part of the

requirements.

bility,thedisassemblypossibilitiesandthesepa-
rabilityofthematerialsandassembliesarecon-
sidered as well as the environmental perils and
dangers to health during the recycling and dis-
posal of the unavoidable rates of non-recycable
materials.
BeaconMedæs products for the most part con-
sistofmetallicmaterialsthatcanberemeltedin
steelworksandsmeltingworksandthatisthere-
forealmostinnitelyrecyclable.Theplasticuseis
labeled; sorting and fractioning of the materials
forrecyclinginthefutureisforeseen.

2.0 Installation
2.1 Inspection Upon Receiving
TheconditionoftheMVFilterModuleshouldbe
carefullyinspectedupondelivery.Anyindication
of damage by the carrier should be noted on
the delivery receipt, especially if the system
will not be immediately uncrated and installed.
The MV Filter Modules may remain in their
shipping containers until ready for installation.
If the MV Filter Modules are to be stored prior
to installation, they must be protected from
the elements to prevent rust and deterioration.
NOTE:
Do not remove the protective covers from the
inlet and discharge connection ports of the
unit until they are ready for connecting to the
hospital’s pipeline distribution system.
2.2 Handling
WARNING:
Use appropriate load rated lifting equipment
and observe safe lifting procedures during all
moves.
2.3 Location
TheMVFilterModulesshouldbeinstalledindoors
inaclean,well-ventilatedenvironment.Areasof
excessivedust,dirtorotherair-borneparticulate
shouldbeavoided.
2.4 Space Requirements
TheMVFilterModulesshouldbeplacedtoensure
easy access to perform maintenance and high
visibility of gauges. It is recommended that a
minimumspaceof24”beallowedonallsides.
2.5 Inlet and Outlet Piping
All pipe must be either seamless copper tubing
or other corrosion resistant metallic tubing, as
detailedinNFPA99.
2.6 Floor Mounting Instructions

supplement to this Operation and Maintenance

2.7 Drain Flask Installation In-
structions
1. Locate the box with the label “ADDITIONAL
 PARTS INSIDE”. Contents of the box should
 include a cap with integrated tting,
 glass ask, two sealing washers, biohazard
 decal,andtwoarrowdecals.

3. Place one sealing washer over tting. The
secondsealingwasherisanextra.
4. The nished assembly is now ready to be
installed.Thetwoarrowdecalspicturedabove
mayornotbeincluded.Ifso,discard.Theyare
notrequiredforthisapplication.
5. Lastly,installthedrainaskbyscrewingitonto
the ball valve located on the bottom of the
lter. Open the ball valve (handle in vertical
position)beforestartupandduringoperation.

Procedure
InordertocomplywithNFPAcode,oneltermust
beinreserveatalltimes.Thismeansthatthebut-
teryvalves onbothsidesof oneltermust be
closedatalltimes.
3.3 ISO 7396-1: 2016 Operational
Procedure
InordertocomplywithISOcode,oneltermust
beinreserveatalltimes.Thismeansthatthebut-
teryvalves onbothsidesof oneltermust be
closedatalltimes.
3.4 HTM 02-01: 2006 Operational
Procedure
InordertocomplywithHTMcode,halfofthe
lters must be in reserve at all times. This
meansthatthebutteryvalvesonbothsides
ofhalftheltersmustbeclosedatalltimes.
WARNING:
Do not put MV Filter Module into operation until
veried by a qualied person per NFPA 99, ISO
7396-1, or HTM 02-01.

5.0 Maintenance
5.1 Maintenance Procedures
A PPE kit is available through BeaconMedæs.
The kit includes a XL disposable coverall,
N100 disposable respirator, wrap-around
safety glasses, and two heavy-duty 30-gallon
biohazard waste bags. The P/N for the kit is
4107 4018 65. More information can be found
by referencing the Parts List. Please contact

handled with proper care.

Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
must be worn when servicing this equipment.

2. Close the ball valve on the bottom of the
drain ask, unscrew the drain ask, and
dispose of using hospital procedure for
biohazardwaste.
 It is recommended to replace the drain ask
with every lter element change. The drain
ask is available through BeaconMedæs.
The P/N for the ask is 4107 6558 95. More
information can be found by referencing the
Parts List. Please contact BeaconMedæs to

 The drain ask is also suitable for steam
sterilizationupto273°F(134°C)usinghospital
equipmentandprocedures.

thelterassemblyandeaseinremovingthe
lterhousing.
4. Unscrewthelterhousing.Astrapwrenchwill
easeinlooseningthelterhousing.Afterthe
lterhousingisloosened,itcanbeunscrewed
byhand.

9. PurchaselterservicekitfromBeaconMedæs.
The kit will come with the lter element
(including double O-rings preinstalled) and
lter housing O-ring. Each lter housing has
a label specifying MV80 or MV160. For an
MV80 lter, the kit P/N is 4107 4018 70. For
anMV160 lter,the kitP/Nis 41074018 71.

6. The picture above shows the lter housing
removedandthelterelementexposed.
7. Remove the lter element by giving a gentle
pulldownwardsanddisposeofthelterusing
hospitalprocedureforbiohazardwaste.
8. Disposeofgloves.Putonanewpairofgloves
beforeproceedingfurther.

10. Installnewlterbypressingrmlyupwards
 intothelterheaduntilthelterisseated.
11. Install new lter housing O-ring that is
 provided with kit and re-install housing by
 fullytighteningthehousingontothehead.
12. Re-installthedrainaskbyscrewingitonto
 theballvalvelocatedonthe bottom ofthe
 lter and re-open the buttery valves on
 bothsidesofthelter.
13. Lastly,disposeofallcontaminatedPPE.
