Ball Joint Tool for BMW 3 Series

WARNING
Before starting work under a car always ensure that it is adequately supported by axle stands or
ramps.
Chock wheels and ensure that the hand brake is firmly applied.
Always work in a well ventilated area.

Always use workshop manual for detailed instructions.
Do not over tighten or use undue force as this can cause damage to both tool and component.
Always lubricate screw thread.

Extraction Insertion
A = Bush
1. Securely support the vehicle and follow workshop manual instructions to access the ball joint.
Mark the position of the ball joint to ensure the new ball joint is correctly installed.
2. Ensure that the screw threads (4) are clean, in good condition and freely lubricated each time
before use.
3. To remove the old ball joint assemble the tool as shown, using the bright plated shells (2) &
(7). Note ensure the tool is correctly aligned. Use a 16 mm ring spanner / socket & ratchet to
slowly turn the drive screw (4) to extract the ball joint from the control arm.
4. Clean the lower face & bore of the control arm using a wire brush to remove any rust. Do not
apply any grease to the bore or the ball joint taper.
5. To install the new ball joint assemble the tool as shown, using the shells (8) & (3). Note:
ensure the tool is correctly aligned. Use a 16 mm ring spanner / socket & ratchet to slowly turn
the drive screw (4) to insert the ball joint into the control arm. Always lubricate the screw
threads before using the tool.
