1. Manual Information
The purpose of this manual is to provide information on the operation and usage
instructions of the Virtual Memory Switch Manager Utility for the Impact or the Inkjet
Printers of the BIXOLON.
We at BIXOLON maintain ongoing efforts to enhance and upgrade the functions and
quality of all our products. In following, product specifications and/or user manual content
may be changed without prior notice.
2. Usage Environment
2-1 Operating System
Following operating systems are supported for usage.
- Microsoft Windows XP (32bit/64bit)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (32bit/64bit)
- Microsoft Windows Vista (32bit/64bit)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32bit/64bit)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008R2 (64bit)

3. Ready to VMSM
VMSM is included in the enclosed CD, and Latest file versions can be downloaded from
the BIXOLON website.

4. Usage of VMSM
4-1 Printer Communication Setting
To use the VMSM (Virtual Memory Switch Manager), It is necessary to set status of
communication between Printer and PC.
1) Run the “SRP_275II_275III _500VMSM(V3.0.x).exe” file.
2) After double-clicking “SRP_275II_275III_500 VMSM (Ver3.0.x).exe”, you will see this
dialog.
3) Select the Interface Type.
- SERIAL
- PARALLEL
- USB
- ETHERNET
In the Serial Interface, match the communication setting (COM Port Number and Baud
Rate) to those of the Printer.

4) Click “Connect” button to check communication status.
If communication status is okay, you will see this message box.
* If you don’t see this dialog, please turn off printer and program.
Check cable or interface type then turn on printer and program.
5) “Self Test1”, “Self Test2”, and “Run Manager” buttons are active.
[Self Test 1]: Print self test first page
[Self Test 2]: Print self test second page
[Run Manager]: Run VMSM

4-2 Getting the Memory Switch Status of the Printer
1) If the Communication Setting is OK, click the “Run Manager” button.
2) Click the “Get Status” button. It gets the status of Printer Setting.

3) If it is successful, you will see this message box.
4) You can see the status of each memory switch.
* Status Information varies with the Printer Model SRP-275II, SRP-275III and SRP-500.
SRP-500 Printer Model is activated “Switch 1 Status” and “Switch 5 Status” button.

4-3 Setting the memory switch status of the Printer
After getting the memory switch status of the Printer, the status of the Printer can be
modified.
1) “Get Status”
Pressing this button displays the current memory switch settings read from the printer.
2) “Set Status”
Pressing this button allows the user to designate switch settings of the printer.
4-3-1 Setting “Switch 1”
1) Click the “Switch 1 Status” button.
2) Select the code page in the red box to change the “Default Code Page”.

4-3-2 Setting “Switch 2”
1) Click the “Switch 2 Status” button.
2) Select the one to change the status in the “Virtual Memory Switch Status” box.

3) Each function of the Memory Switch is the same as the following list.
(1) External Buzzer
You can select buzzer-mode as “Buzzer Off” or ”Buzzer On”.
The external buzzer such as a melody box sounds depending on the printer's
status
(2) Internal Buzzer
you can select buzzer-mode as “Buzzer Off” or ”Buzzer On”.
The internal buzzer sounds depending on the printer's status.
(3) Upside-down Printing
The user can select “Upside-down Printing” or “Normal Printing”.
(4) Select Character Font
Select one of the font types. “7X9” or “9X9”.
(5) Buzzer when paper out
When paper finishes, you can select buzzer-mode as “Buzzer On” or “Buzzer Off”.
(6) Paper End Signal
When paper finishes, you can select signal-mode as “Signal Off” or “Signal On”.
It is only applied when NearEnd Sensor dip-switch is turned on.
(7) Select Cover Open Status
When cover is opened, you can select detect-mode as “Paper-out” or “Cover
open”.
(8) Bufferfull Release
When printer-buffer is full, select recover-speed as “Normal” or “Fast”.
(9) Buffer Size
The user can select Buffer Size of the printer.
(10) Cover is opened while printing
When cover is opened while printing, you can select recover-mode as
“Automatically recoverable” or “Recoverable by command”.
* Memory Switch 2 is only applied in SRP-275II and SRP-275III Printer Model.

4-3-3 Setting “Switch 5”
1) Click the “Switch 5 Status” button.
2) Select the function in “Special F/W” combo box.
* Memory Switch 5 is only applied in SRP-500 Printer Model.

4-4 Setting the Serial (RS-232) Communication
1) The user can set the serial communication setting in the “Communication Setting” box.
If “Memory Switch On” box is checked, communication setting of Serial applies when
the “Set Status” button is clicked.
* Communication Setting is only applied in SRP-275II and SRP-275III Printer Model.
* Communication Status is only applied when 1-5 dip-switch is turn on.

4-5 Other Function
1) The “Save Status” and the “Load Status” button in the blue box saves the current status
of memory switch by file format or load status of memory switch form file.
2) The “Initialize Status” button in the “User Status Setting” box initializes value of all. After
pressing the “Initialize Status” button, click the “Set Status” button to apply the setting.

4-6 SRP-500 Vertical Alignment
The ink cartridge can be aligned properly using this software to yield best quality printing.
This software should be used to align ink cartridges when newly installing and/or replacing
them. Use of this software will facilitate the proper placement of both black and white and
color printing when contained in the same line and/or image.
1) Click the “Vertical Alignment Tool” button to execute the Tool.
2) Click the “Pattern Print” Button to print out the Pattern.

3) To align the ink cartridge, the print out of a pattern must be examined to select the best
print result in accordance. Selecting the Pattern Print button results in the printing of
four patterns from A to D. Each pattern is printed vertically according to a number
range from –3 to +3. Printed patterns are shown below.
4) Based on the printed patterns, the radio buttons should be set after selecting the values
corresponding to the straightest vertical line per each pattern. Taking the previous
patterns image for example, the best settings would consist of -1 for Pattern A, -1 for
Pattern B, 0 for Pattern C, and 0 for Pattern D.

5) After selecting the radio buttons, click the Save Setting button to save the current
configuration in the printer.
6) After saving the settings as in the previous section, select the Verify Setting button to
confirm that the cartridge’s vertical alignment is set properly. Clicking this button
results in the printing of the pattern according to the currently saved settings.
* Vertical Alignment is only applied in SRP-500 Printer Model.
