andCurrentrelatedranges.
InputsensitivityvariesautomaticallywiththefunctionrangeselectedwhileactivatingtheHz
function.6Vfunctionrangehasthehighestandthe1000Vrangehasthelowest.When
activatedunderDCV,ACVorVFD ACV voltagefunction,thetriggervoltagerangewillbe
displayedrightbeforestartingtheHzreadings.Pressmomentarilythe buttoncan
manually select another trigger voltage range (not available to current ranges). It is
recommendedtofirstmeasurethesignalvoltage(orcurrent)levelandactivateHzfunction
inthatrangetogetthemostappropriatetriggerlevel.IftheHzreadingbecomesunstable,
selectlowersensitivitytoavoidelectricalnoise.Ifthereading showszero,selecthigher
sensitivity.

In function,thenormalforwardvoltagedrop(forwardbiased)foragoodsilicondiode
isbetween0.400Vto0.900V.A readinghigherthanthatindicatesaleakydiode(defective).
A zero reading indicates a shorted diode (defective). An OL indicates an open diode
(defective).Reversethetestleadsconnections(reversebiased)acrossthediode.Thedigital
displayshowsO Lifthediodeisgood.Anyotherreadingsindicatethediodeisresistiveor
shorted(defective).
Usingresistanceandcontinuityfunctioninalivecircuitwillproducefalseresultsandmay
damagetheinstrument.Inmanycasesthesuspectedcom ponentmustbedisconnected
fromthecircuittoobtainanaccuratereading.
Dischargecapacitorsbeforemakinganymeasurement.Largevaluecapacitorsshouldbe
dischargedthroughanappropriateresistanceload.

ProperRotationdetectionreliesonsolidsignalconnectiontoallthreetestleadterminals
simultaneously.Anysingledisconnectionwillleadtodetectionfailureand may produce false
indication.Toverifysignalconnectionandhencepropermeterindication,swapanytwo
connects(tothemeter)tocheckformeterindicationofreversemovement
ConnecttotheMotorasillust rated.Besuretheelectricitysupplyisremoved.Fromthe
perspectiveoflookingdowntheshaftofthemotor,speed spinitclockwisetogenerate
sufficientsignalstrengthforpropermeterdetection.Ifthemeterindicatesaclockwise
movement,themotor leadsconnectedtoL1,L2andL3ofthemeterare L1,L2andL3(also
knownasR,SandT) respectively.Ifthemeterindicatesacounter clockwise movement,
swapanytwoconnectsbetweenthemeterandmotor.Thenretest.
ConnecttotheMAINSasillustrated. Ifthemeterindicatesaclockwisemovement,the
phasesconnectedtoL1,L2andL3ofthemeterareL1,L2andL3(alsoknownasR,Sand
T) respectively. If the meter indicates a counterclockwise movement, swap any two
connectsbetweenthemeterandphases.Thenretest.ConnecttheabovementionedL1,L2
andL3ofaMotorandthatoftheMAINSrespectivelyshould be able to get a clockwise
motormovement.
