Introduction
Security is about safeguarding communication and data and keeping our online society and
economy secure. It is critical for our customer’s business and we take it seriously at Canon
Production Printing. Security is incorporated in the early stages of our product development
process. Our hardware and software products are developed according to industry security
standard working methods, and equipped with the required features to protect our printing
products and PRISMA workflow and application software against cyber security threats.
Policy / Guidelines / Rules
Canon's Secure Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process is an agile based development process
that also models itself comparing with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
and Open Web Application Security Project (aka OWASP).
It uses the practice of sprints to take advantage of the continuous delivery and flexibility that an
agile process enables.
Our back office support program (development of service tools and online services) is ISO/IEC
27001:2013 certified.

Source code
Introduction
The listed open source components are governed by different licenses. Some of the licenses
contain regulations regarding the provision of the pertaining source code.
Policy / Guidelines / Rules
If you would like to obtain a machine-readable copy of the source code of an open source
component, which is made available under applicable license terms, you may request such copy
of the source code by sending an e-mail to [email protected] indicating the following:
1. Name and version of the Canon Production Printing software you licensed.
2. Name and version of open source software modules contained in the above identified Canon
Production Printing software of which you legitimately would like to obtain the source code.
We will provide you with a find place where you can obtain a machine-readable copy of the
source code or we will deliver a complete machine-readable copy of the corresponding source
code of the respective open source software component, as available and as is, on a medium of
our choice which can be customarily used for software interchange. You may be required to pay
the cost incurred for the source code distribution, however, the cost will in no event excess the
cost incurred for physically performing the source code distribution.

About the users
Introduction
There are various types of users who can use the Colorado M-series each with its own role in the
complete workflow.
The various roles can be filled in by the same person or by multiple people. This manual is
mainly written for the Printer operator.
Prepress operator
• Receives and prepares job
• Uses design suites and RIP front ends to prepare the specific jobs
• Delivers 'ready to print jobs' to the printer operator
Media specialist
• Creates media profiles for new media or applications
• Manages media types and media profiles
Printer operator
• Operates the RIP to process and print jobs
• Manages the jobs, such as pausing, resuming and deleting jobs, loading, winding and cutting
media etc.
• Operates the printer and takes care of the daily use
• Maintains the printer, such as cleaning the matrix plate, maintenance station, refilling ink etc.
System administrator
• Configures and manages the network
• Configures and manages the security settings
• Keeps the system up-to-date and secure
• Controls access

About the Colorado M-series
Introduction
The Colorado M-series is a 1.6 m (64 inch) roll to roll printer, based on the patented UVgel
technology. The Colorado M-series has a modular design, so there are numerous configurations
possible.
There are 4 basic configurations:
• Colorado M3
• Colorado M3W
• Colorado M5
• Colorado M5W
On the operator panel, the configuration type is displayed at the top right-hand side of the screen.

Introduction
When you operate the Colorado M-series you have to take note of the safety precautions and
follow the guidelines.

Stickers

Working with UVgel ink
The Colorado M-series UVgel ink needs to be handled with care. Follow the instructions in this
manual to work with ink safely and read all the warnings before you start the procedure. When
you have to clean ink protect yourself and follow the prescribed procedure. For more information,

Optional features
Introduction
Software licenses provide extra options for the Colorado M-series. Depending on the printer type,
licenses are standard or optional.
Available options (licenses)
1. FLXfinish+
With this license, the operator is allowed to use the matte print modes and the mixed matte/
gloss print mode; otherwise only glossy print modes are available.
This license is also required to print in Backlit mode.
2. Print inside and double sided
The license allows:
• printing on the inner side of the media
• winding the media with the printed side to the inside
This makes double sided prints possible.
Double-sided printing is only guaranteed in Matte modes, otherwise the printed side will stick
to the print surface. So for double-sided printing, it is also required to have a FLXfinish+
license.
3. Second roll in the drawer
Without the license, media can only be loaded into position 1 in the drawer. For inside
printing, the media is still allowed into position 2, since the media is still fed through the slot
for position 1.
4. White ink
With this license, the operator is allowed to use white ink print modes.
For installed Colorado M-series configurations this upgrade requires:
1. The license for white ink
2. A printhead for white ink
3. A service visit for installation and calibration of the printhead
You can downgrade the license for white ink. This is non-reversible.
5. Temporary speed license M5
You can temporarily upgrade a Colorado M-series M3/M3W configuration to M5/M5W. The
temporary speed license is available per month and only allows use of 700 ml ink bottles.
6. Colorado M-series speed license M5
You can upgrade a Colorado M-series M3/M3W configuration to M5/M5W. This gives you
access to the M5/M5W print modes. An M5/M5W configuration can use both 700 ml and 1000
ml ink bottles.

Interface kit to enable jumbo roll feeding for an M5/M5W configuration.
2. Colorado M-series magnetic media kit
Hardware kit to enable use of magnetic media.
