Well-lit.
Clean and uncluttered.
Before Operating
Before using any tool, any part that appears damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will
operate properly and perform its intended function.
Before operating your Drill Press check for damaged parts.
Make certain that the power is OFF before plugging the tool in.
Make sure all clamps, locks and bolts are tight.
Always check that adjusting keys and wrenches are removed from the machine work surface before plugging
it in.
Use grounded receptacle only for 110 Volt hookup.
Give the Drill Press a test run. If it makes an unfamiliar noise or vibrates irregularly, turn it off, unplug it and
have the problem corrected by a qualified technician.
Make certain to turn off and unplug the Drill Press when doing any maintenance. The tool should always be
turned off and unplugged when not in use.
Keep Guards in place and in working order.
Do not abuse the power cord. Do not yank on cord to disconnect it from outlet. Keep the cord away from
heat, oil and sharp edges.
Note: Performance of this tool may vary depending on variations in local line voltage. Extension
Cord usage may also affect tool performance.
Grounding/Voltage Warning
Common household current is 110-120 volts. As long as the outlet used with the tool is rated from 110-120V
there will be no complications using it with household receptacles. Plug the tool into a 110-120V properly
grounded outlet protected by a 15-amp, dual element time delay or circuit breaker.
NEVER try to plug a 110-120V tool into a 220-240V circuit or serious complications and possible injury to the
operator may occur. The plugs have different shapes to prevent this.
This tool has a three-prong plug. The third (round) prong is the ground. Cutting off the ground will result in a
safety hazard and void the warranty.
If the outlet you are planning to use is the two-prong type, do not remove or alter the grounding prong in any
manner. Use an adapter and always connect the grounding plug to a known grounding source. It is recommended
that you have a qualified electrician replace the two-prong outlet with a properly grounded three- prong outlet.

Extension Cords
Your tool has a three-prong plug, therefore you must use a three-prong extension cord. Only use rounded
jacket extension cords listed by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Improper use of extension cords may
cause inefficient operation of your tool which can result in overheating. Be sure your extension cord is rated to
allow sufficient current flow to the motor.
If you are using the tool outdoors, use an extension cord rated for outdoor use (signified by “WA” on the
jacket).
The extension cord must have a minimum wire size depending on the amperage of the tool and the length of the
extension cord. This size is determined by its AWG (American Wire Gauge) rating. The smaller the gauge, the
greater the cable’s capacity. The amount of cords used does not matter: Total length determines the minimum
AWG rating. Every cord must meet the AWG rating. Use the chart below to determine what AWG rating is required
for your situation. Cord length is rated in feet. Harbor Freight Tools can supply UL listed and outdoor rated
cords in multiple AWG ratings if needed.

Assembly
Your Drill Press will require assembly. To assist you with assembly and operation please refer to the Assembly
Diagram and Parts List located on pages 14, 15, 16 and 17. Lay out all parts onto a clear section of your
workbench prior to assembly.
Mounting Surface: Ideally, the base should be bolted down prior to the assembly of other components. The
mounting surface must be flat, level and capable of supporting the weight of the Drill combined with the
materials to be drilled.
Before assembling, remove all traces of the packing grease from the Drill Press and wipe all parts thoroughly
with a clean dry cloth. Apply a thin coating of light machine oil to the Table, Column, and Base to prevent rust.
Column Assembly to Base
Step 1) With the Base (part #10B) on a flat level surface, bolt on the Column Support (part #3B) using
the four (4) M12 Hex Head Screws (part #9B). Tighten Firmly.
Step 2) Insert the Column (part #11B) into its support and firmly secure this assembly in place with
the Hex Socket grub Screws (part #7B). It may be necessary to unscrew the Hex Socket
Screws (part #7B) slightly to ensure that they do not protrude internally, as this will prevent
the Column from sliding fully into position in the Tube.

Table to Column
Step 1) Locate the Elevation Worm Gear Shaft (part #19B), the Crank Handle (part #5B) and the
Table Crank (part #4B). Insert the Elevation Worm Gear Shaft into the Table Support and
extend the Shaft through the opening as far as possible.
Step 2) Locate the Table Crank (part #4B). The Crank is to be installed on the Elevation Worm Gear
Shaft (part #19B). A Set Screw (part #7B) is to be aligned with the flat portion of the Shaft.
Get the Crank as close as possible to the Support, and then tighten the Set Screw.
(See Figure 1).
Step 3) Screw the Crank handle into the Table Crank. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the Crank
Handle securely.
Step 4) Loosen the Set Screw (part #2B) in the Column Collar (part #1B) with the 3mm Hex wrench
and remove the Collar and Rack from the Column.
Step 5) Locate the Rack (part #6B) and with the smooth end of the Rack pointing upward, slide it
down through the large, round opening in the Table Support (part #3B). Engage the Rack into
the Gear Mechanism found on the inside opening of the Table Support (See Figure 2 below).
Step 6) While holding the Rack and the Table Support as assembled, slide both down over the Col-
umn. Slide the Rack down until the Rack is positioned against the lower Column Support.
Step 7) Replace the Collar (part #1B), with the bevel side down, which was removed in Step 4.
Tighten it with the Hex wrench used in Step 4.
Note: In order for the Rack to slide when the Table is swung to the left or right on the Column, the
Collar must sit loosely over the Rack. Only tighten the Set Screw enough to keep the Collar
in place. Over tightening the Set Screw may result in breaking of the Collar.
Step 8) Check the Column Collar for proper adjustment. The Collar should sit evenly on the Column
and the Rack should slide freely when the Table is rotated 360 degrees.

Step 9) Locate the Column Clamp (part #17B) and insert it into the Table Support. Once inserted,
tighten it by hand. Once this is done, rotate the Worm clockwise with the Crank. If necessary,
loosen the Set Screw in the Crank and reposition the Crank as close to the Table Support as
possible. Tighten the Set Screw.
Step 10) Check the “gap”, i.e., the clearance between the Table Crank and the Table Support. If the
gap is larger than 1/32”, crank backlash will be minimized.
Head to Column
Step 1) With assistance, slide the Head (part #45A) onto the Column as shown in the Assembly
Diagram. It may be necessary to unscrew the Head Lock Set Screws (part #15A) slightly to
ensure that they do not protrude internally, as this will prevent the head from sliding fully into
position. Align the Head with the Base (#10B) and firmly secure it into position with the Set
Screws. Screw the three (3) Rods (part #19A) firmly into the Hub (part #20A).
Chuck
Step 1) The Chuck (part #30) is to be assembled to the Spindle (part #32) according to the follow-
ing instructions. Loosely slide the Chuck onto the Spindle. Make certain that the teeth of the
Chuck are not exposed. Put a piece of scrap wood on the table to protect the Chuck nose.
Pull the Spindle down using the Handle. Press the Chuck nose hard against the scrap wood
on the table until the Chuck is forced into a solid fit. The Chuck is pressure fitted.
Pulley Cover Knob
Step 1) Locate the Knob (part #21) and the pan head screw (part #7). Slide the Knob into the hole in
the front of the Pulley Cover. Twist the screw into the knob from the underside of the Pulley
Cover. Screw on tightly.
Oiler System
Step 1) Use four M5x0.8-8 Screws (#51A) to fasten the two Oil Brackets (#50A). Insert the Oil Bottle
with Spigot Assembly (#52A and #53A) into the Oil Brackets.

Light Bulb
Screw a light bulb (not more than 60 Watt) into the Socket (part #48A) inside the Head.

Operation
To assist you with operation of your Drill Press, please refer to the instructions below and to the Parts Listings
and Assembly Diagrams on pages 14 through 17 of this manual.
Never force the tool or attachment to do the work of a larger industrial tool. It is designed to do the job better
and more safely at the rate for which it was intended.
Settings and Adjustments
Before adjustments are made, ensure that the machine is SWITCHED OFF AND UNPLUGGED. Also make
sure all locking handles and securing screws are fully tightened when adjustments are complete.
Changing the Pulley Speeds
The Drill Press has twelve (12) different pulley speeds: 180 RPM, 310 RPM, 320 RPM, 500 RPM, 540 RPM,
570 RPM, 1180 RPM, 1565 RPM, 1805 RPM, 2190 RPM, 2795 RPM, and 3865 RPM. A full chart of belt
arrangements for each drill speed is located on the inside of the Pulley Cover.
Step 1) Undo the Belt Tension Lock Knobs (please refer to Know Your Drill Press on page 8 of this
manual) on both sides of the head. Turn the Belt Tension Handle (14A) clockwise to bring the
Motor Pulley close to the Spindle Pulley which will allow the belts to be moved easily.
Note: Please refer to the Pulley and Spindle Diagram with regard to the following steps.
Step 2) Lubricate the Idler Pivot Shaft (part #4) and the Pulley Idler with light grease, and install it in
its mounting place between the motor and spindle pulleys.
Step 3) To change the speed of the Drill, you will need to move the belt to the appropriate place on
each pulley. Hold the Lifting knob (part #21) and lift up on the Pulley Cover (part #13). Manu-
ally move the belt into the appropriate grooves on the pulleys which correspond to the speed
desired. Consult the chart inside the pulley cover and position the belts on the pulleys ac-
cording to the drill speed required.
Step 4) Turn the Belt Tension Lever counterclockwise so that tension is applied to the belts. Tension
is correct when the belts deflect by approximately 1/2” at their centers of run when using rea-
sonable thumb pressure. Lock the motor in this position with the Locking Knob.

To Adjust the Table
The table rotates 360 degrees and tilts 45 degrees right and left. The table is capable of being raised, lowered
and swiveled about the column.
1) Raise or lower the Table by slackening off the Arm Locking Handle and turning the crank clockwise to
raise it and counterclockwise to lower it.
2) The Table can be swiveled about the Column by loosening the Arm Locking Handle. The Table
assembly and Rack move as one around the Table.
3) You can tilt the Table by loosening the Bevel Table Locking Screw (part #12B and 14B) and tilting the
Table to the desired angle.
The Table is fitted with an Angle Scale to determine the degree of slant. For all normal operations the Table
should be set at 0 degrees. To ensure that the drill is entirely perpendicular to the table, insert a piece of
straight round bar in the chuck, place a Square on the Table and bring it up to the round bar. Adjust the Table
tilt if necessary so that the Table is correctly aligned.
Setting the Drilling Depth
Located near the Spindle Feed Shaft is a Depth Stop Collar (A) (See Figure below) which contains a
graduated scale. The collar is capable of turning around the Shaft, and may be locked in place by a Locking
Screw (B-below). Degrees are measured in both inches and metric.
Step 1) With power OFF, lower the Chuck until the drill contacts the surface of the work piece. Hold it
in that position.
Step 2) Loosen the Locking Screw and turn the collar so that the measurement for the depth of the
hole required is in line with the Pointer (C).
Step 3) Lock the Collar in position using the Locking Screw.
The Drill is now set to drill holes to your predetermined depth from that particular starting point.

Running the Drill Press
Step 1) Insert the drill into the jaws of the chuck approximately 1”, ensuring that the jaws do not touch
the flutes of the drill. Before tightening the Chuck, ensure that the drill is centered within the
jaws.
Step 2) Make certain that the Table height and position is set so that the drill travel range is sufficient
for the material to be drilled.
Step 3) Make certain that the work piece is securely clamped. It should be held in a drill vise or
bolted to the table. Never hold the material with your bare hands while drilling as this may
result in severe personal injury.
Step 4) If the material is irregularly shaped and can not be laid flat on the table, it should be securely
blocked and clamped. Any tilting, twisting or shifting will result not only in a roughly drilled
hole but also increases the chances of damage to the drill.
Step 5) FOR FLAT WORK, lay the piece onto a wooden base and clamp it down firmly against the
table to prevent it from turning.
Step 6) FOR SMALL MATERIALS that cannot be clamped to the table, use a drill press vise. Make
sure that the vice is clamped or bolted to the table.
Step 7) WHEN DRILLING COMPLETELY THROUGH WOOD, always position a piece of scrap wood
between the material and the table to prevent splintering on the underside of the material as
the drill breaks through. The scrap piece of wood must make contact with the left side of the
column. Also, set the depth of the drill so that the drill will not come in contact with the table
or align the table so that the hole in its center is in line with the drill bit.
Step 8) Once the instructions above have been followed, make certain guards are in place and turn
the machine ON.
Cutting Speeds
Factors which determine the best speed to use in the drill press operation are:
1) Type of material to be drilled
2) Size of hole
3) Type of drill bit
4) Quality of the hole or cut desired.
Generally, the SMALLER THE DRILL BIT the GREATER THE REQUIRED RPM. In soft material, the speed
should be higher than for hard metals. As a guide, the drill speed for a given drill bit size is listed in the chart
below.

After Operation-Maintenance
CLEANING: Regularly clean the work surface with a dry brush or clean cloth. Keep machined
parts of the Drill Press lightly greased. Always keep the motor and chuck clean. Prevent metal, wood, dust
and debris from accumulating in the Motor and Chuck areas.
If the jaws do not operate smoothly, have the chuck serviced by a qualified technician.
Lubrication: For average use, lubricate twice a year with a 20 to 30 weight household oil Lubricate more
frequently with increased use.
STORAGE: Remove drill bits and store them in a safe place.
Child-proof the machine and work area. Make sure to use padlocks, master switches and remove the safety
Lock Key.

dise. If our inspection verifies the defect, we will either repair or replace the product at our election or we may
elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot readily and quickly provide you with a replacement. We will
return repaired products at our expense, but if we determine there is no defect, or that the defect resulted from
causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the cost of returning the product.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights which vary from state
to state.
