1.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
E1000 PRO is an automatic personalization system for
plastic cards designed to emboss, codify the barcode
and colouring the characters, either embossed (Tipper)
or indented (Infiller).
E1000 PRO, thanks to the MSPTM system (Multi Smart
Processing), is able to process 3 different cards
simultaneously.
The CIMTHERM module stores all the necessary
information on a Flash memory, it is to say a memory
which can be written without an external programming
device.
This allows to store the encoding (machine FW) and
resident data (logos, fonts) directly on the card via a
serial communication.
The E1000 PRO machine works connected to a PC
which sends the personalization data using the serial
CIM protocol CHIP 10.
The machine is equipped with an upper cover (2) with
locking key, a push-to-open discharge unit (1) and front
panel (3). To open the front panel (3) it is necessary to
open the upper cover (2) first, then press where
indicated by the label. To close it again, push until it
engages.
a1.2 PRODUCTION CYCLE
The machine production cycle can be divided up into the
following phases.
1.CARD LOAD: The card is taken and moved to the
encoding unit.
2.MAGNETIC ENCODING AND CHIP (OPTIONAL):
The card is encoded and read in only 2 steps on the 3
tracks in LO-CO (low coercivity) or HI-CO (high
coercivity) according to ISO 7811.
3.EMBOSSING: This can be done either by embossing
or indenting. During the indenting the Infiller will be
activated in order to ink the characters at room
temperature.
4.TIPPING: When the card has been released by the
clamp the Tipper is activated and the embossed
characters are coloured.
5. UNLOADING: The card is stacked in the unloading
tray or passed on to the next PRO machine. If any error
occurs during the production phase, the card is
discarded in the negative unloading tray and the
machine stops indicating the error.

1.3 LOADING AND ENCODING UNIT
The loading unit (1) allows to store vertically 200 cards
0,76 mm thick. The card at the bottom of the pile is
picked up and moved to the working units. The bar code
encoding function can be integrated in the unit, in
accordance with the standards ISO and JIS (Japan). It
is possible to place here the chip contactor which allows
to read and write “contact” cards which comply with the
ISO 7816 standard.
1.4 EMBOSSING UNIT
The embossing unit (1) consists of a rotating drum on
which various punches corresponding to a single
character are placed.
The punches are pressed over and under the card to
print the characters. It is possible to print indented
characters (when the counter punch is flat) or
embossed (when the counter-punch is concave).
The standard drums can print 60, 90 and 105 characters
These include all alphanumeric characters (OCR-A,
OCR-B and 7B fonts), punctuation and special
characters; some additional characters for asiatic
oriental languages are included.

1.5 INFILLER
The infiller is the device which inks the indent characters
(OCRB1, OCRA1, MASTERCARD etc.).
This device contains a coloured ribbon which is placed
between the punch and dye during the Indent cycle and
inks the Indent character. There are 2 different versions
of the Infiller:
The Mobile Top Infiller: If the machine is equipped with
2 series of characters, one for embossing and the other
for Indenting.
The Mobile Top Infiller is used for Indent characters on
the Front of the card such as the font OCRB 1.
The Mobile Bottom Infiller: If the machine is equipped
with 2 series of characters, one for embossing and the
other for punching. The Mobile Bottom Infiller: is used
for Indent characters on the Back of the card such as
the font OCRA1, Master Card.
1.6 TIPPER
The Tipper is a device which inks the embossed
characters.
The Tipper Unit has a Hot Silicon Blanket (160°-170° C)
which, when pressed on the inked ribbon placed
between the card and the Silicon Blanket, transfers the
ink onto the embossed characters.
The working temperature can be set by turning the
graded knob which is located on the left of the ribbon.
On switching on the machine it is necessary to wait at
least 5 minutes so that the Tipper can heat up and reach
the working temperature. Any calls for the Tipper before
it is ready will generate an error message: “E-19
TIPPER NOT READY-PLEASE WAIT” to signal that the
system is not ready to ink.
When the Tipper has reached the working temperature
it will produce the card without needing any input from
the operator.
The maintenance instructions should be carefully noted
in order to obtain the correct functioning of the Tipper .

1.7 UNLOADING UNIT
The unloading unit (3), with removable cover (1), allows
to extract the cards.
The cards successfully produced are stored in the upper
part (2) of the unit, while the defective ones are placed
in the lower part (4).
The moving guide allows to store the cards without
jamming. To function correctly, it must always be put in
position “fully forward”. On the contrary, the alarm
“unloading not ready” would be generated.
The unloading unit is equipped with sensors which
detect if it is full or empty (negative and positive
unloader), generating the respective alarms.
