1 PAPER HOLD DOWN ROLLER REPLACEMENT
1.1 Safety Precautions
•Ensure that the power is completely disconnected from the scanner unit.
•Ensure the scanner is positioned on its Colortrac stand, or a stable maintenance platform.
1.2 Tools
•Medium pozi-drive screwdriver.
•1.5mm Allen Key

1.4 Procedure
1. Open the paper guide
assembly by depressing
both release buttons at
either end of the scanner.
2. Remove the 2 x screws
from the left hand end of
the Top Lid Cover.

3. Remove the 2 x screws
from the right hand end of
the Top Lid Cover.
4. Carefully lift the Top Lid
Cover off from the paper
guide assembly, and store
in a safe place until
needed to refit.
5. Undo (but do not
completely remove) the
screw holding the Pressure
Roller Shaft Assembly in
place until it is clear of the
paper guide end plate.

6. Loosen, but do NOT
remove, the 2 x screws
holding the Left Hand
release button in place....
..... until the end of the screws
are level with the inside edge
of the paper guide plate to
allow the plate to be lifted up.
7. Cut the 2 x tie wraps
holding the sensor cable to
the Pinch Roller Cover
Unit.

8. Disconnect the sensor
cable to allow the Pinch
Roller Cover Unit to be
removed from the paper
guide assembly.
9. Remove the 14 x screws
holding the Pinch Roller
Cover Unit to the paper
guide assembly.
10. Remove the blanking plate
from the right hand end of
the paper guide assembly.

11. Push the cable grommet
back through the hole in
the paper guide end plate.
12. Lift the left hand end of the
cover out of the paper
guide assembly pass the
previously loosened
screws....
.... then lift the right hand end
making sure the Pressure
Roller Shaft Assembly is free
from the paper guide end plate,
and the cable through the
paper guide end plate is not
damaged.

13. Remove 2 x screws from
both the left hand and right
hand paper hold down
spring brackets, and
remove the bracket and
spring.
14. Remove the 3 x M4 screws
holding the gas piston on
to the left hand side of the
paper guide assembly,
remembering that once the
3
rd
screw is released the
paper guide assembly will
drop slightly.*
WARNING: Do not allow the screws
and/or washers to drop as it will go into
the chassis. Dropped screws can be
retreived by opening the access panel
following instructions in chapter 11.3
“Opening / Closing The Rear Access
Panel”.
15. The gas piston will stay
expanded after being
released.*
*Photo for illistration purposes only, as lid has already been removed at this point of the process.

16. Remove the 3 x screws
from the right hand gas
piston. As the last screw is
being removed, hold the
paper guide assembly with
your free hand to prevent it
dropping shut and causing
damage. Fully open the
Paper Guide Assembly at
this point.
17. Lifting the paper guide
assembly, while holding
the roller support bracket
with one hand to stop the
rollers falling from the
paper guide assembly,
remove the 4 x screws to
release the roller bracket.
18. Close the paper guide
assembly again, and
remove the left hand roller
support bracket. Make sure
the gas pistons don't catch
on the pillors on either end
of the lid assembly.

19. Remove the 22 x plungers,
springs and caps which
hold the Pinch Roller
Assemblies in place.
20. Lift the paper hold down
roller and Pinch Roller
Assembly, which are joined
together by the spacing bar
and belt, letting the right
hand ends out of the
bearings in the right hand
support bracket.
21. Placing the paper hold
down roller and Pinch
Roller Assembly on a desk,
use a small flat screwdriver
to prise the circlip off the
left hand end which holds
the spacing bar on.
NOTE:
Later releases of Gx+ scanner
do not have this Circlip fitted

22. Remove the paper hold
down roller from the
spacing bar, and using an
allen key, remove the cog
from the shaft.
23. Fit the cog onto the
replacement paper hold
down roller, and tighten
with the allen key. Fit the
belt over the cog, and put
the shaft into the bearing
and then the spacing bar.
24. Refit the paper hold down
roller and the Pinch Roller
Assemblies into the right
hand roller support
bracket, making sure the
bearings are on the shafts
and go into the roller
support bracket. Lower the
left hand end down into
position, making sure the
Pinch Roller Assemblies
go into the plunger posts.

25. Make sure the bearing is
pushed fully towards the
paper hold down shoulder
on the shaft.
26. Fit the left hand roller
support bracket over the
paper hold down roller and
Pinch Roller Assembly,
making sure the bracket is
the correct way round.
27. Open the paper guide
assembly, while holding
the roller support bracket it
one hand, and fit the 4 x
screws to the support
bracket.

28. Refit the left hand spring
bracket and spring, making
sure the bracket has the
edge with the pin for the
spring towards the end of
the paper guide assembly
end plate.
29. Refit the right hand spring
bracket and spring, making
sure the bracket has the
edge with the pin for the
spring towards the end of
the paper guide assembly
end plate.

30. For raising Paper Guide
Assembly models, make
sure the height sensor
switch is above the Pinch
Roller Assembly shaft
31. To get the sensor switch
above the Pinch Roller
Assembly shaft, loosen the
2 x screws under the paper
guide assembly to allow
movement of the sensor
bracket.
32. To close the paper guide
assembly, reattach the gas
pistons. Holding the Paper
Guide Assembly half
closed, insert the 3 x M4
screws to hold the gas
piston bracket in place on
both ends of the paper
guide assembly.
NOTE: Some older models of scanner
had a 4
th
screw fitted, if this was the
case, please disregard this screw as it
will foul on the piston casing.

33. Replace the 22 x plungers,
springs and caps which
hold the Pinch Roller
Assemblies in place.
34. Refit the Pinch Roller
Cover Unit by putting the
right hand end in place
first, making sure the
disconnected paper sensor
cable is not trapped under
the plate as it is lifted into
place, and the Pressure
Roller Shaft Assembly is
located in the slot in the
right hand paper guide end
plate.
35. Push the cable grommet
back into the hole in the
right hand end of the paper
guide end plate.

36. Replace the 14 x screws to
hold the Pinch Roller
Cover Unit to the paper
guide assembly.
37. Reconnect the 2 parts of
the paper sensor cable
together.
38. Replace the 2 x tie wraps
to hold the sensor cable to
the Pinch Roller Cover
Unit.

39. Screw the Pressure Roller
Shaft Assembly back in
place.
40. Refit the blanking plate in
the right hand end of the
paper guide plate. Make
sure it is the right way
round and pushed fully
down.
41. Tighten the 2 x screws on
the left hand release
button, while pushing down
on the button.

42. Carefully fit the Top Lid
Cover onto the paper guide
assembly, making sure the
release buttons appear
through the appropriate
holes without catching or
being damaged.
43. Replace the 2 x screws in
the left hand end of the
Top Lid Cover.
44. Replace the 2 x screws in
the right hand end of the
Top Lid Cover.

45. Push down on the paper
guide assembly until both
ends lock in place.
46. Run a full Normalisation and autostitch as described in the user manual.
