USING THE KEYPAD
The LCD keypad allows an authorised user to enable and disable the system, to check the system status
and manage its general features, to check the event log history and to perform functional tests. A more
complete version of the User manual for Art. VEDOLCD, VEDOLCDPROX is available for download from www.
comelitgroup.com.
Keypad buttons
The keypad is used to operate the system via menu navigation and the entry of numeric and alphanumeric
parameters.
The table of button functions is shown below:

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The modern and functional VEDO system offers the best possible response to the technical and performance-
related demands of modern security systems.
This manual provides information regarding the day-to-day use of the VEDO system. Please refer to the
Glossary if you wish to check the meaning of the terms used in this manual.

Keypad signals
LCD screen
System status display
In standby mode, the time appears on the first line of the display, while the second line is empty and the
LEDs are off.
When a 6-digit user code is entered, the code is validated on the sixth digit; if the user is authorised, the
name associated with that user appears on the first line.
Once a valid user code has been entered, the system switches to 'System Status Display' mode, where
the user can view the status of the Areas on the second line of the display (as described in "Area status
display" see page 8) and the system status is indicated on the LEDs (as described in "Key to the
indicator LEDs" see page 7). The system will remain in System Status Display mode for the period of
time set by the installer during the programming phase; the factory setting is 120 seconds. If the time is set
as unlimited, the code does not need to be entered in order to view the system status on the display and
via the LEDs; it will always be visible.
Until the time has elapsed, the standby screen appears as follows:
Pressing Cagain will return the screen to standby mode, with no indication of the current status of the
areas (immediately hiding the information on display).
Key to the indicator LEDs
The keypad is fitted with 4 indicator LEDs, the meanings of which (working from top to bottom) are
described in the table below.
IMPORTANT: The event log resets every time the system is enabled or disabled.

If an event occurs, the keypad will display it on both lines, with the first line displaying the type of event
(fault, open zone, tampering) and the second displaying a description of the event.
To move from the event display screen to the standby screen and vice-versa, simply press 'C'.
The table below provides a key to characters used in the second line to describe the area status.

< Exit time A theft zone belonging to the area is set with an "exit time" to allow the user time to exit the
building before the alarm is activated.
Buzzer
The buzzer in the keypad beeps when any valid key is pressed. Furthermore, depending on the options
selected during the programming stage, the buzzer can signal:
*The symbol "•” represents a short beep, the symbol “—” represents a long beep. The distance between the “•” symbols
represents the time frequency of the beeps. The size of the symbols represents the relative volume of the beeps “•·”

duration of the Exit time period.

Display last event in Alarm Log, if present. If there are no events recorded in the Alarm Log,
or if the alert has already been displayed, on pressing Enter, the message "FUNCTION NOT
AVAILABLE" will be displayed. It is however still possible to view previously displayed alerts in
Events Log (see complete User Manual).
Unauthenticated users can only use the delete key “C” or the numerical keys. If a key that is not
usable is pressed, the display will show the message "FUNCTION NOT AVAILABLE".
Authenticated users of the keypad who press button C will be returned through the previous menu
until the area status is displayed. If the value of the area status display time for that keypad is not
unlimited, the next press of button C will return the keypad to standby mode, with no indication of
the current status of the areas (immediately hiding the information on the display).

Enter the 6-digit user code followed by the keys corresponding to the required operation. The operations
available are listed below:
Total area activation
This procedure activates all areas enabled for the user and the keypad from which he/she is sending the command.
To carry out total activation:
1. Enter user code and press ‘ON’.
2. Press ‘ENTER’ to confirm activation, or ‘C’ to cancel.
3. If activation is confirmed the following screen will appear, if it is cancelled the display will revert to the
"System status display" see page 7screen.
4. If the operation was completed successfully, an ‘I’ will appear in correspondence with the activated
areas to indicate total activation of the area.

Area deactivation
To deactivate the areas, enter the code and press 'OFF'; the following screen signals that the operation
has been completed successfully.
Partial activations P1 and P2
To activate partial scenario P1 or P2:
1. Enter the code then press the key associated with the desired scenario. The screen in the figure
illustrates what happens after P1 is pressed (the same thing will happen for P2).
2. Press ‘ENTER’ to confirm activation, or select a different scenario using the up and down arrow keys,
then press ‘ENTER’.
3. The keypad shows confirmation message “SCENARIO EXECUTED”.
IMPORTANT: the installer can program the P1 and P2 keys to activate scenarios other than partial 1
and 2, selecting other scenarios from the 16 programmable options.
Using the function keys
The function keys F1/F2/F3/F4 can be used to perform various actions, such as: total activation, total
deactivation, reset alarms, stop alarms.
To use them:
1. Enter the 6-digit code.
2. Press the function key associated with the desired action.
3. At this point the activation or command confirmation screen will appear.
When using the function keys, you do not need to press 'ENTER' to confirm the action after pressing the
function key itself.
IMPORTANT: to change the action associated with the key, contact your installer.
Quick activation
Quick activation is used to activate the system without entering the user code.
This type of activation is available for the following keys:
• ON: total activation
• P1, P2, F1, F2, F3, F4 : to perform the action associated with the key
To use it:
press and hold the key corresponding to the desired action for 2 seconds.
IMPORTANT: these activations which do not require the user code are applied to all areas for which the
keypad is enabled.
IMPORTANT: the use of quick keys can be enabled or disabled by the installer during programming.
Activation with zones open
If zones are open during system activation, before confirming the action the keypad will display:
Different methods can be used to continue with activation:
A. (recommended option) Cancel the operation by pressing 'C', close the open zone and retry
activation.
B. Force activation by pressing "ENTER". This method forces activation, generating a fault condition

Activation in presence of faults
If faults are present during system activation, before confirming the action the keypad will display:
To continue with activation if a fault has been detected, you will need to force the procedure.
IMPORTANT: the user may not be authorised to force activation in the presence of certain faults; for
authorisation contact your installer.
From the previous screen (FAULTS! FORCE?):
Use the arrow to view all faults.
Press "ENTER" to force activation.
If the user is not authorised for forced activation, the following screen will appear:
To exclude opened zones, proceed as follows:
2. To confirm exclusion of the zone you are viewing, press ‘ENTER’.
3. For activation to take place, ensure all open zones are excluded, then repeat the process
described in steps 1 and 2 for all open zones.
4. After the exclusion procedure has been completed for all open zones, the following screen will
appear:

Activation in presence of tampering
If tampering is present during system activation, before confirming the action the keypad will display:

If the user is not authorised for forced activation, the following screen will appear:
Alarm lock in progress
There are two ways to lock an alarm in progress:
A. Deactivate the system (with the system activated) (code +OFF)
B. Send the ‘Stop alarms’ command.
There are two ways of sending a 'Stop alarms' command:
A. Enter the user code and then press and hold the 'prog' key for at least two seconds.
B. Alternatively, enter the code to access the user menu; under the "Commands" option, press
'ENTER' when you reach the "STOP ALARMS" command.
An alarm lock causes the outputs (sirens, etc.) to switch off and cuts off any calls which are in progress or
in a queue.
CAUTION: The STOP ALARMS procedure does not deactivate the system. If a system was activated, it
will remain so; only outputs and telephone calls will be blocked for that specific alarm.
User not recognised
If an invalid code is entered, the user unknown message will appear:
If 3 attempts at entering an invalid code are made, the keypad will be locked for two minutes.
IMPORTANT: the "user not recognised" keypad lock can be disabled, plus the number of attempts
and the lock time can also be changed by the installer during programming.
Robbery Code
A robbery code is associated with every user code. The robbery code is the user code + 1.
Example: user code 111111, the corresponding robbery code is 111112. Code 119999, robbery code =
120000. Code 123459, robbery code = 123460. It is not possible to register a user code corresponding to
an existing user code + 1, since this new code corresponds to the robbery code of the existing user. Use
of the robbery code triggers the configured calls without requiring activation/deactivation action, plus the
keypad will not indicate that calls are being made.
This code must only be used in the event of deactivation under duress (burglar present).

System Management Menu
To access the user menu, enter the code and press the 'prog' key, whether the system is activated or
deactivated.
The user menu consists of a certain number of options, divided into sub-menus.
IMPORTANT: When the product leaves the factory, only User 1 is available and enabled with the code 111111.
N.B.: user menu presentation is dynamic. Menu options are only displayed if the user logged in to the
control panel possesses the required authorisation. The menu tree is shown in full below.
Modifying a numerical value
To modify a numerical value, type in the desired value, following the format shown on the display, omitting
non-numerical characters, but filling in all the numerical characters of the proposed format.
e.g. date DD-MM-YY must be entered as DDMMYY; 2 September 2015 will become 020915, without
dashes but with a zero at the beginning to fill the tens digit for the days.
e.g. Setpoint 1.14 is entered as 114, without the decimal point.
Modifying an alphanumerical value
Once you have selected the string you wish to change (for example, the description of a zone) the first
character available for editing will start to flash. At this point characters can be entered or replaced using
the same technique as used in mobile telephones with a pushbutton keypad. Press the same key several
times to change the suggested character in accordance with a set sequence. The table below shows the
sequence of characters available for each key.
Press the C key when the first character is flashing to exit the string without saving any changes.
To move around within the string, use the right and left navigation keys.
Pressing the C key while inside the string deletes the character to the left of the flashing character.
The new character, when necessary, will be entered to the left of the flashing character.
Press Confirm to save the changes.
The table below lists the character sequence for each key.

Activations
All the considerations described in the previous paragraphs relating to activation apply, even if open zones,
faults or tampering events are detected.

Single area activation
This option can be used to activate a single area.
From the following screen:
Press 'ENTER' to access the screen ACTIVATION/Area 1
At this point, use the arrows (up and down) to select the area to be activated.
Press ‘ENTER’ to activate an area.
Now use the Up and Down arrows to select the type of activation (total, P1...) you wish to apply to the
area, then press 'ENTER' to activate the selected type.
IMPORTANT: the various activation types for a single area are also present with a variant without an
exit time. If you select: "TOTAL DEL. OFF" the area will be activated in TOTAL mode without any exit
time.
If the exit time has not been configured there is no difference between "TOTAL" and "TOTAL DEL. OFF
Quick Alarms
This option can be used to cause one of the following types of alarm event:
• Theft (Activate theft alarm?)
• H24 (Activate H24 alarm?)
• Fire (Activate fire alarm?)
• Panic (Activate panic alarm?)

Output activation
This option can be used to work on the system outputs.
This option can be used to carry out one of the following commands:
Press the arrows to select the output you wish to work on.
To activate the output press 'ENTER' or 'ON', you will see the confirmation:

To deactivate the output press 'OFF'.
Then press 'ENTER' and use the up and down arrows to scroll through the available activation options

Event key 1 (or 2)
This option generates the event configured for key 1 on the keypad.
The same applies for event key 2.
IMPORTANT: these commands can be associated to the function keys on the keypad to control
outputs or to generate telephone alerts (telephone calls or SMS).
Overtime
This option can be used to delay timed activation procedures.
The default delay time is 60 minutes, and 3 postpone requests can be made.
IMPORTANT: the delay time and the number of requests are parameters which can be changed by
the installer during programming.
IMPORTANT: if timed activations are not enabled, the request will still be completed successfully
even though it will have no effect.
Stop Alarms
This option generates a Stop alarms event. This allows the stoppage of a current alarm by deactivating any
active outputs (sirens, flashing lights, etc.) and blocking any telephone calls in progress or in the queue.
IMPORTANT: This command is implicitly carried out with each deactivation.
Reset Alarms
This command generates a Reset alarms event, which resets everything to do with the alarm condition.
Execution of the command leads to the resetting of alarm cycles, alarm conditions and alarm memory, and
ends any calls in progress.
IMPORTANT: This command is implicitly carried out with each activation.
Stop telephone calls
If the control unit has been programmed to make calls when certain events (alarms, tampering) occur, when
these conditions arise the control unit will call the programmed numbers.
This option can be used to block all calls in progress (including silent calls) and cancel any queued calls.

Reset control unit
This option can be used to cause a control unit reset.
This command is only available to authorised users.
IMPORTANT: standard users, by default, are not authorised to execute this command, which is
restricted to Installers.

This option gives the user control unit access authorisation.
This option (only available for the installer) enablesthe manufacturer code. This operation is essential for
the purposes of system updating.
After execution of the command the installer remains authorised for 4 hours; once this time has elapsed the
authorisation command must be executed again.

elapsed the authorisation command must be repeated.
