at a 90-degree angle with chair. Fig. 5
6. Grasp handle, place foot on the frame’s lower support tube, and pull
upward on chair until the red safety lock clicks into place. Fig. 6

Fitting Guide
Correct seati ng and posi ti oni ng encourages good posture, whi ch i n
turn ai ds ci rculati on, breathi ng and di gesti on. Please take the ti me
to properly adjust the cha i r to fi t the user. If the user i s not correctly
posi ti oned, check the accessori es secti on of thi s manual to see i f one
or more of our accessories would help to facilitate posture or consult
a physical therapist. Improper seating can cause problems. Please
consult a physical therapist or doctor for additional guidance.
When properly fi tted, Convai d chai rs wi ll provi de years of comfort-
able use. As the user grows, refer back to thi s Fi tti ng Gui de to
adjust the dimensions of the chair.
Seat Back Height
Seat back height varies according to chair size. Headrest
exten si on s a r e a va i la ble w hen extra hei ght i s n eeded to
support the head.
To determi ne the seat back hei ght, measure from the seat
to the upper part of the head. Fig. 19

Sea t back hei ght
Proper seat wi dth enables the user to si t comfortably and
prevents problems from developi ng. Whi le user i s seated
on a flat surface, measure from hip to hip. Fig. 20
The user should have enough room to prevent hi ps and
thi ghs from rubbi ng agai nst the frame. However, the
chai r should not be too wi de or the user wi ll sli de around
and posture could be affected.

Seat Depth
Seat Depth Adjustment:
1. Remove bolts located on the front of
seat frame. Fig. 23
2. Adjust seat to desi red posi ti on and
reinsert bolts.
Measure from the most posteri or porti on of the buttocks
to the ba ck of the knee. Su btr a ct from tha t m ea su r emen t
1-2” to allow adequate clearance between the seat and

Depth Adjustable Crotch Strap
The depth adjustable crotch
strap prevents the user from
sliding out of the chair. It
connects to the posi ti oni ng
belt vi a the qui ck-release
buckle, and can be adjusted
by threadi ng the strap
through desi red slot on the
seat upholstery.

Two-piece Seat
The lower seat panel has a
double Velcro® attachment
for adjusti ng the seat. To
adjust the tautness of the
seat, pull apart the double
Velcro flap at the rear under-
si de of the seat. Place the
Velcro i n the desi red posi -

H-harness shoulder straps
help the user retain upright
trunk posi ti on. To adjust
the hei ght, i nsert the bolt at
the en d of the str a p thr ough
the grommet hole i n the seat
back, and secure wi th the
threaded knob. Grommet
choi ce should be level wi th
or hi gher tha n the top of the
shoulders - thi s wi ll keep
the user secure, wi thout the
strap rubbing against the

Footplate Adjustment
To determi ne the correct
seat-to-footplate hei ght,
measured from the back
of the knee to the bottom
of the heel.
All Convaid footplates are

Height Adjustment:
The soles of the feet or heels
should rest comfortably on top
of the footplates. To achi eve
thi s, remove detent pi ns on
the front of the leg tubes, sli de
the footplate to the desi red
hei ght and rei nsert the pi ns.

excess materi al of the calf flap
may be wrapped under the
footplate and attached with

Angle Adjustment:
To adjust the footplate angle,
loosen the four bolts on the
ou ter edge of the legr est w her e
the footplate tubes are located.
Adjust the footplate to desi red
angle, and ti ghten the bolts.

To adjust the depth of the footplate,
loosen the two bolts on ea ch si de of
the footpla te. Sli de the footpla te

Adjustable foot posi ti oners hold

The foot posi ti oners may be
criss-crossed over the top of the
foot to secure the enti re foot, or
ca n be converted i nto a si mple
ankle strap by wrappi ng the
right strap around the ankle and

Folding Lateral Supports:
The lateral supports help mai ntai n mi dli ne posi ti oni ng of the trunk.
To adjust the lateral supports:
1. Release the velcro upholstery straps on the back si de of the chai r.
2. Loosen the knobs on the lateral mounti ng bracket.
3. Reposi ti on laterals to the desi red locati on.
4. Ti ghten the knobs and replace the upholstery. Fig. 36

Note: Convaid’s chairs provide a semi-contour fit around the body. The user must
be fitted correctly into the chair to achieve optimal posture and comfort.

To fold laterals, squeeze the latch located at
the bottom of Lateral Support Bar, and fold

the user’s thi ghs from i nsi de to

2. Buckle the straps around
the seat tube or armrest, and

ied.

The Calf Panel provi des support for the lower legs. To
attach, wrap Calf Panel around legrests and velcro.

Adjustable support vest posi ti ons user comfortably
and securely, maintains midline-seating position,
and prevents forward slumpi ng.
The vests attaches to the chai r wi th straps that wrap
around the seat back and connect with Velcro, and
shou lder stra ps tha t a r e i n ser ted thr ough hori zonta l

The hei ght adjustable fli p-up armrests provi de added support and
posi ti oni ng. Armrests “fli p-up” out of the wa y for easy access i nto
the chai r, and adjust i n hei ght for added comfort.
To attach or a djust the hei ght of the armrests, rem ove the two
screws from ea ch bracket, adjust bracket to the desi red hei ght, and

The si de panels are desi gned to keep the occupants arms i nsi de the chai r
and to provi de added securi ty. The si de panels are attached to the chai r
wi th 1 screw at the top and 2 Velcro straps at the bottom.
The si de panels wi ll adjust to accommodate varyi ng degrees of recli ne. To
adjust: loosen the Velcro strap on the front/outsi de of the panel, recli ne the
chai r to desi red posi ti on and re-ti ghten the Velcro strap. Fig. 54a
