Installation notes
Compact person detector, PIR switch
COPD COPD XPH
DANLERS Compact Person Detector can be surface mounted onto an
external wall. It incorporates a passive infra-red quad sensor to detect
movement of a warm body within the detection zone (diagram A) and
the COPD includes a photocell to monitor the ambient light level.
The detection range is about 10 metres over 120 degrees, the range
reduces to about 8m at the extremes to prevent nuisance switching.
On detecting movement, if the ambient light is dark enough, the
COPD will switch the load on. The ambient threshold can be set by
the user to between approximately 20 and 1000 lux via the external
LUX adjuster (diagram B). The COPD XPH version which does not
include a photocell or LUX adjuster will switch the load on regardless
of the ambient light level.
If no more movement is detected within a certain time, then the PIR
will switch off the load. The time can be set via the internal TIME
adjuster to between 2 and 20 minutes (diagram C).
Loading
The COPD should only be connected to a 230V 50Hz ac supply.
It can switch the following type of loads:
• 6 amps (1500W)
Incandescent or mains halogen lamps
(recommended with integral safety fuse)
• 4 amps (1000W)
Electronic or wire wound transformers.
Fluorescent lamps (high frequency or soft start)
• 2 amps (500W)
  CompactuorescentorLEDlamps(about50lamps)
• 1 amp (250W)
Metal halide discharge lamps or fans.

Variants
As DANLERS design and manufacture in the UK, variants can be supplied,
codedbythefollowingsufxes,appliedinthisorder:
• 12V or 24V 12V or 24V (ac or dc) operation
• VF Volt Free contacts
• NC or CO Normally Closed or Change Over contacts
• G or LG Gold or Logic Gold contacts
The details of these variants are covered by an enclosed addendum
installation note if applicable.
Trouble shooting
The COPD cannot be made to switch on during bright days
• The COPD XPH (no photocell) should be used.
The PIR does not detect
• Person is too far from the COPD switch, see detection diagram.
• Person is moving unusually slowly (perhaps when testing).
The PIR stops working
• Ensure the unit is mounted correctly so that no water can enter.
• If mounted on porch ceiling, ensure adjustment spindle point inwards.
The PIR False triggers
• Detector is exposed to air movement on breezy days.
Installation procedure
1. Please read these notes carefully before commencing work.
Incaseofdoubtpleaseconsultaqualiedelectrician.
2. The detector should be sited so that it is not shaded from daylight
3. The detector should be mounted between 1 and 2.2 metres high,
via any of the four pre-drilled mounting holes only.
4. It must be mounted with the cable entering from below.
5. Make sure the power is isolated from the circuit.
6. The detector should be connected as shown in diagram D

Lux and Time set-up
For convenience, ensure that the TIME is set to minimum when setting
up the LUX level. Afterwards set the TIME to a value suitable for the
application.
The LUX is best set up when the ambient light is at approximately the
minimum desired level. With the external LUX adjuster set fully clockwise
(Dark) wait for the PIR to switch off. Rotate the LUX adjuster slowly
anticlockwise (Dark to Light), whilst waving your hand about 1 metre
in front of the detector, until the load switches on.
The detector will turn on the lights for between 2 (anti-clockwise) and
20 minutes (clockwise) according to the setting of the vertical adjuster
spindleinsidethehousing.Thissettingshould be made duringinstallation
but can be adjusted afterwards if necessary.
Whenever a person is detected, the time lag will start again and the
load will stay switched on.
