THE 30A SHOWROOM CHARGER
The REDARC Showroom Charger by DEFA is based on modern switch-mode technology and
galvanic isolation. This charger represents the latest technology in long term battery maintenance
charging and will maximise the lifespan of your battery. The unit has been designed to charge
Lead Acid, AGM, EFB and GEL batteries up to approximately 250Ah and can maintain battery
charge continuously. The 30A Showroom Charger withstands parallel loads up to 30A while
charging the battery.

1. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS - THIS MANUAL CONTAINS IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE
30A SHOWROOM CHARGER.
2. RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES - PREVENT FLAMES AND SPARKS. WORKING IN THE VICINITY OF A LEAD-ACID
BATTERY IS DANGEROUS. BATTERIES GENERATE EXPLOSIVE GASES DURING NORMAL OPERATION.
3. DISCONNECT MAINS SUPPLY BEFORE MAKING OR BREAKING CONNECTIONS TO THE BATTERY.
4. DO NOT OPERATE THE SYSTEM UNLESS YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS MANUAL AND THE
CHARGER IS SETUP AS PER THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.
1. The system should not be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are supervised or have been instructed on how
to use the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that
they do not play with the system.
2. This charger is designed for use with 12V LEAD ACID type batteries only, including AGM, EFB and GEL. The
charger should not be used for other battery types or for charging damaged or non-rechargeable batteries.
3. Do NOT alter or disassemble the system under any circumstances. All services or repairs must be returned
to REDARC for repair. Incorrect handling or reassembly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire and may
void the unit warranty.
4. Lead and other chemicals used in batteries are toxic. Wash skin and hands thoroughly after working with
batteries.
5. The acid in the battery is corrosive and harmful. It damages clothes, metal and varnish. In case of spillage and
contact with skin, wash and rinse thoroughly with water and consult a doctor.
1. Do not connect cables in reverse polarity (e.g. RED clamp to B- and BLACK clamp to B+) even though the charge
output is protected against shortcircuiting and wrong connections.
2. To make sure the correct charging voltages are applied to the battery, the charging cables must not be
shortened or made longer.

1 PRODUCT FUNCTION
1.1 Charging Process
The Showroom Charger uses a 7 step charging process to optimise battery performance and
longevity. Figure 1 illustrates the charge process in a graph with voltage (V) and current (A)
over time (t). The charging process includes Step 1: Pre-charge analysis, Step 2: Main charge,
Step 3: Maximum charge, Step 4: Battery error detection, Step 5: Float charge, Step 6: Sleep,
Step 7: Wake up.

1 PRODUCT FUNCTION
1.2 Pre-Charge Analysis
The Showroom Charger initially checks if the battery is connected correctly. The battery’s
charge level (V) and total capacity (Ah) are then measured to determine the correct settings for
charging. Battery status is indicated by the number of segments illuminated on the LED Battery
Level Indicator.

1.3 Main Charge
The Showroom Charger starts charging the battery with a constant current up to 14.4V (at 25°C).
The charge voltage is then held constant at 14.4V and the charging current is reduced until below
a defined level. Charge voltage then drops to 13.6V, before the long-term charging phase starts.
During charging, battery charge is shown by the number of LEDs illuminated. The blinking
segment above these LEDs indicates active charging. Once full battery charge is reached, all 5
LED segments remain illuminated. If the measured battery voltage is below 2.0V, the charger will
enter Error Mode, and the Warning Triangle above the Battery Level Indicator will begin to flash.
1.4 Post-Charge Analysis
The Showroom Charger analyses the battery again after the charging phase. Post-charge
analysis can detect batteries with a short circuit in individual cells. This cannot be detected in
the Pre-Charge Analysis. If the battery voltage drops below 12V within 2 minutes, the charger
will go into Error Mode, the red Warning Triangle will start to flash and the charging sequence
will stop.
1.5 Long-Term Charging
After the battery is fully charged, the Showroom Charger 30A will deliver 13.6V with a maximum
of 32A. This is indicated by all Battery Level Indicator LEDs slowly pulsing.

2 OPERATION
2.1 Setup
This charger is intended for use with Lead Acid, AGM, EFB and GEL batteries. The battery
manufacturer’s recommendations shall always be taken into consideration. Before use, read
this instruction manual carefully. If there are any uncertainties, please contact REDARC.
First, connect the Showroom Charger RED clamp to battery positive (B+) and BLACK clamp to
battery negative (B-). Then connect the AC mains cable to the charger. Push the Power Button
once, as shown in Figure 2, Page 3. The charger will start up and initialise the Pre-Charge
analysis process. To turn off the charger, push the Power Button again.
Disconnect the charger from mains power before disconnecting the negative and positive
terminals from the battery. When the mains power is disconnected, the charger will not draw
current from the battery.
• Risk of explosive gases - Prevent flames and sparks. Working in the vicinity of a Lead-Acid battery is
dangerous. Batteries generate explosive gases during normal operation.
• Disconnect mains supply before making or breaking connections to the battery.
• Do not connect cables in reverse polarity (e.g. RED clamp to B- and BLACK clamp to B+) even though the
charge output is protected against shortcircuting and wrong connections.
• To make sure the correct charging voltages are applied to the battery, the charging cables must not be
shortened or made longer.
2.2 Maintenance
Hardware
Make sure the connector on both charger and cables, as highlighted in Figure 3, are free from
moisture and dirt before using the charger. All batteries should be inspected monthly as a
minimum to achieve the best possible safety. The Showroom Charger maintains battery charge
without further battery water consumption than normal evaporation.

Software
If the charger requires a software update, it can be done through the micro-USB port at the end
of the charger seen in Figure 4. Necessary information will be given along with the software.
