is correct. The Dension Gateway Lite is available in
several versions for different vehicle types, therefore
operation and installation may differ accordingly.
Warning!
During the installation always make sure that the
ignition key is removed from the car, the radio is
switched off and that you have the security code of
the head unit (radio) at hand (if applicable).
3.
H
W T REM VE THE HEAD UNIT
First, carefully remove your vehicle's existing factory
fit head unit as per the factory instructions and using
the correct tools.
In some cases, removing the head unit will require
removing panels so we recommend to contact your
vehicle's dealer or installation supplier for more
information.

When the main harness is removed, connect the
Dension supplied cable to the original factory cable
harness.
In some cases there may be an add-in connector.
Remove the CD changer section and replace with the
loom supplied with the Gateway Lite. For further
details please go to section 6.
Please note: The free brown lead on the Gateway car
harness does not need to be connected.
Important installation note for Volkswagen and
Audi owners:
The free black lead on the Gateway harness must be
grounded/connected to the chassis. (You don’t need
to connect this lead on a MW.)

Sources to be connected to the Gateway Lite:
Connect the round iPod connector (requires an
optional iPod connection cable – IPDC1GW) and the
USB to the Gateway and feed them through the
dashboard to the desired place.
Warning! Do not trap the cables, or locate them in a
position where they may become trapped after
refitting the head unit.
Make sure that the device is correctly fitted before
running the cable. Then, reconnect the Dension
supplied harness to the rear of the head unit.
Connect the 12 way micro-fit (12 pin molex) to the
Car side of the Gateway Lite module.
5.
T
EST AND REFIT
efore you refit the head unit, test the Gateway Lite
with your car audio, making sure all connections are
correct and that you have full functionality.
Note: If during testing you notice any changes or
inconsistencies in the way the car's electrical system
operates, disconnect the Gateway product immedi-
ately and consult your dealer.
After having tested all functions, refit your head unit.
Take care not to trap any wires or the Dension
product. We supply cable ties to mount the Gateway.
Please mount the module away from heat or damp

ETTING STARTED

Switch ON your car radio and select the ‘CD changer’
source. This is usually done by pressing the CDC or CD
button, or pressing the CD button twice. If in doubt
consult the audio section of your car’s manual.
Connect your iPod or US drive to the Gateway. The
first file on the device starts to play. If the Gateway
has been used earlier, music will play from your iPod
or US from the point last played. If both are con-
nected, the last used source will continue to play.
Switching off the radio (or the ignition) will stop
playback and put the devices connected to standby.
If neither the iPod nor a US drive is connected
‘CD5/Track99’ is displayed with the counter running.

Two operation modes are available:
iPod User Interface (iPod UI
iPod Gateway Interface (iPod GW
In iPod UI mode the original user interface of the
iPod remains active (i.e. the click wheel still works) so
you can use it for browsing normally.
During playback the Radio displays CD5. The shown
track numbers and time counter are not synchro-
nized with the iPod. We recommend the use of this
mode if you want original iPod functionality.
In iPod GW mode the click wheel or the touch screen
is disabled

, the iPod displays the currently played
song information. (On iPod touch and iPhone the
‘Accessory attached’ message will be displayed only.)
iPod playback control is possible only from the car
stereo (Head Unit or steering wheel). In this mode
the track number and the time is displayed on the
radio display (Radio dependent).
2Please note that on iPod touch and iPhone running iOS 6 or
newer the ‘GW mode’ does not disable U control or normal
display.

If a US drive is connected, the Gateway will start
playing back in ‘Play All’ mode. If the Gateway has
been used earlier, music will play from your US

During playback the Radio displays ‘CD’ and the track
number with the time elapsed of the current track
(Radio dependent). When CD1 through CD4 is select-
ed, you can jump to the next or previous subfolder
using the FF/REW ( / ) buttons. In ‘Play All’ mode
all Folders/Subfolders can be reached and selected
using the FF or REW function buttons.
Tips and Tricks:
You can easily define how the CD selection buttons
are assigned by naming the Folders as: 1-Rock, 2-
Blues, 3-Pop, etc. as shown below:
Depending on the capacity of the US drive building
the database may take some time. During this pro-
cess you may not have access to your music, so we
recommend the Gateway Indexer Software to speed
up the indexing procedure. It can be downloaded
from
http://www.dension.com/sites/default/ files/windows-
utility/gatewayindexer.zip
When changing the music content on your US
drive, it is highly recommended to delete the index
files (GW_D x. IN) from the root folder.

– except for compatible MW and Toyota models.
When installing the device in a MW, the text (song

wait until ‘Disc 1/Track99’ appears

turns to ‘Disc 1/Track 01’ within 3 seconds (Text
selector mode)
•Press the Next track button ( ) to toggle Tracks
02 through 04 to set the screen mode
•Please note: Track 01 is the non-Text Mode
