CHAPTER 1 - SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1 - SCOPE
This tool has been designed to assemble and disassemble screws in wood, metal and plastic materials. No other use will be
permitted. For professional use only.
2 - GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
General safety instructions are collected in the 6159930690 safety booklet.
Specific instructions are given below.

3 - PERSONAL SAFETY
3.1 - Earthing connection
3.2 - Differential circuit-breaker
Always use a differential circuit breaker to protect the operator from electric shock. A differential circuit breaker in the
power supply to the tool detects any insulation defect between the phases of the network and the earth and immediately cuts off
the power supply to the tool.
3.3 - Power supply
Always use the cord supplied with the tool to connect to the mains power supply only. Do not modify the cord or use it for
other purposes. Use only genuine CP replacement parts. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock.
4 - TOOL USE HAZARDS
The selection of the tool takes account of the operating conditions as stated by the user, who shall not exceed the operating limits
as specified by the manufacturer at the time of the selection (see "Max. duty cycle" file on the CDRom supplied).
Any excessive internal temperature of the tool electric motor above 60°C is detected and stops the tool. It can start again only if
the temperature decreases to under 50°C.
Although our cables are designed to work under drastic conditions, we recommend that you check the following points for a
longer service life:
• bending radii should not be lower than 10 times the cable diameter,
• friction with the outer sheath should be restricted,
• any direct pull on the cable should be avoided.
5 - TOOL CARE AND SERVICE
Only experienced and qualified personnel (authorized electricians) are entitled to open and to have access to the inside of
the tool. If in doubt, return the tool to a CP-authorized service centre (contact your local CP Sales for details).
Disconnect from power supply and wait one minute before commencing service operations. Failure to wait one minute may
result in electric shock from undischarged capacitors.
Beware hot components. There is a risk of burning by internal components which can reach 75°C (170°F). Allow to cool before
handling.
To reduce risk of injury, everyone using, installing, repairing, maintaining, changing accessories on, or working
near this tool must read and understand the safety instructions before performing any such task. Failure to follow
all instructions listed below, may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury.
WARNING: this power tool must be earthed.

CHAPTER 2 - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The EAP-TFlex tool is an electric fastening tool directly supplied by mains. It is fitted with a torque transducer for high-precision
torque control. The main regulation parameter is the torque, which can be changed using the display and the 3 programming keys.
There are several options:
1 - MAINS SUPPLY
There are 2 types of tools:
• one tool which works with 230 VAC mains voltage, ± 8%, 50/60Hz
• one tool which works with 115 VAC mains voltage, ± 8%, 50/60Hz
Although the peak power can reach 2 kW during the final speed phase, it is recommended to adjust the power circuits according
to the maximum average power.
The average power input depends on the tool type, the assembly type and the tightening rate. However, for heat dissipation
reasons, the maximum average power should not exceed 0.3 kW.
2 - FEATURES
Values measured in individual work places may be higher than the declared values. The actual exposure values and risk of harm
experienced by an individual user are unique and depend upon the way the user works, the workstation design, as well as upon
the exposure time and the physical condition of the user.
We, CP, cannot be held liable for the consequences of using the declared values, instead of values reflecting the actual exposure,
in an individual risk assessment in a work place situation over which we have no control.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
3 - OPERATING TEMPERATURE
Considering its technology, the temperature of the tool naturally increases during tightening cycles. Best tightening rates are
reached with an ambient temperature of 20°C. The performance of the tool is decreased by approximately 50% for an ambient
temperature of 40°C. The maximum operating temperature is 45°C.
For further information, refer to "Max duty cycle" file on documentation CD-ROM.
4 - DESCRIPTION
4.1 - Report LEDs
The operator is informed at a glance of the tightening results through report LEDs. They can have three colours (green, yellow and
red) and are located on the upper part of the tool and on both sides of the tool. They are off during the tightening and turn on after
the tightening.

CHAPTER 3 - START-UP
1 - ON RECEIVING THE TOOL
Check that the following items are included in the kit supplied with the tool:
• the certificate of conformity,
• the safety instructions,
• the CDROM,
• the operator's manual.
On delivery, a separate kit can be provided according to the country of destination. The kit includes the following items:
•themainscord.
2 - INSTALLATION
Install the necessary accessories:
• rotating suspension device
• double safety device
•…
Make sure that the operating voltage specified on the tool corresponds to the voltage of the electric network.
Make sure that the protection devices of the line are appropriate to the tool and that the safety instructions are respected.
The tool is directly connected to the mains. No other connection is required.
Switch the tool on.
To switch the tool on, you must always make the electric connections in the following order:
- connect the mains cord to the tool,
- then connect the mains plug to the electric network.
Similarly, when switching the tool off, you must always:
- disconnect the mains plug from the electric network,
- then disconnect the mains cord from the tool.
Adjust the tool in Easy Programming Mode (quick adjustment):
• set the torque with or ,
• check and validate the adjustment (see “PROGRAMMING”, page 8).
The tool is ready to operate.
Never connect the mains cord to the tool or disconnect the mains cord from the tool, while the mains cord is
connected to the electric network.
The access code is inactivated from factory, by default. If you should change it, using the Advanced Programming
Mode, do memorize or note your code.

CHAPTER 4 - PROGRAMMING
There are 2 ways to program the tool: the Easy Programming mode and the Advanced Programming mode. The Easy
Programming mode allows to change the torque. In the Advanced Programming mode, all parameters can be changed: the torque
preset, the result recording selector, the joint stiffness, the access code and the unit. The Advanced Programming mode also
allows for a calibration.
1 - EASY PROGRAMMING MODE
The torque can be changed in the Easy Programming mode.
By default, if no key is pressed during 60 s, the tool switches back into tightening mode without saving the parameters.
2 - ADVANCED PROGRAMMING MODE
The Advanced Programming mode can be used to change the preset torques, to record the data, to change the joint stiffness, to
activate an access code, to change the unit and to calibrate the tool. It allows for escaping without any change.

Press during 3s to enter the Easy Programming

"Toff" is displayed by default: the Torque Preset mode is

Press to reach the next menu item. 2nd menu item - Data Recording
"Roff" is displayed by default: the torque data will not be
recorded. The "REC" LED lights ON.
Press to reach the next menu item. 3rd menu item - Joint Stiffness
"MED" is displayed by default: medium stiffness is
selected. Other possible values for the joint stiffness are
"HARD" and "SOFT".
Press to reach the next menu item. 4th menu item - Access Code Activation
"---0" is displayed by default: it means that no Access Code
is activated. The "Access Code" LED lights ON.

2.1 - Torque Preset (max. 5 torques)
Up to five torques can be preset, changed and/or activated in the first menu item:

1st menu item - Torque Preset (max. 5 torques):
"Toff" is displayed (no torque is preset, by default). The
"Torque" LED lights ON.
Press to start the Torque Preset features. "Toff" is flashing.
Press or to toggle between "Toff" and "Ton". "Ton" or "Toff" is flashing.
Press when "Toff" is flashing. "Toff" is displayed. Return to the "Torque Preset" menu.
Press when "Ton" is flashing to show the current
preset torque T1.
"-T1-" is displayed for 2 s. Thereafter, the current preset
torque value T1 is displayed ("Tmax" by default).
Press or to reach the new target torque for T1
(torque resolution = 0.1 Nm).
The new target torque T1 is displayed.
Press to validate T1. The new preset torque T1 is validated.
"-T2-" is displayed for 2 s. Thereafter, the current preset
torque value T2 is displayed ("Tmax" by default).
Press or to reach the new target torque for T2
(torque resolution = 0.1 Nm).
The new target torque T2 is displayed.
Press to validate T2. The new preset torque T2 is validated.
"-T3-" is displayed for 2 s, etc.
etc. The new target torque T5 is displayed.
Press to validate T5. The new preset torque T5 is validated.
"Ton" is displayed. The "Torque" LED still lights ON.
Press during 3s to validate the new torque presets
(when needed). The five preset torques are validated. "--" is displayed. The
"Torque" LED lights OFF.

2.2 - Data Recording
The recording of the tightening data can be activated/inactivated in the second menu item:

The joint stiffness can be changed in the third menu item: possible values for the joint stiffness are Hard, Medium and Soft.
Action Display / Result
2nd menu item - Data Recording:
"Roff" is displayed (data recording off, by default). The
"REC" LED lights ON.
Press to start the Data Recording features. "Roff" starts flashing.
Press or to toggle between "Roff" and "Ron". "Ron" or "Roff" is flashing.
Press when "Roff" is flashing. "Roff" is displayed. Return to the "Data Recording" menu.
Press when "Ron" is flashing to start the Data
Recording.
"Ron" stops flashing and lights continuously.
Press during 3s to validate. The Data Recording is started. "--" is displayed. The
"REC" LED lights ON.
Ready to tighten (with data recording).
Tighten (up to 30 times). The "REC" LED lights ON until the end of the recording:
- either after 30 tightenings or
- as the tool is switched off or
- as the user unselects the Data Recording in the Advanced
Programming mode.
The CVIPFlex software, available in option, offers the possibility to transfer the recorded data to a PC.

3rd menu item - Joint Stiffness:
"MED", "SOFT" or "HARD" is displayed, depending on
the previous choice. "MED" is selected by default, for
medium joint stiffness. The "Torque" LED lights ON.
Press to change the joint stiffness. The display ("MED", "SOFT" or "HARD") flashes.
Press or to toggle the joint stiffness (several
times, if necessary).
"HARD", "MED" or "SOFT" starts flashing (depending on
the number of pressures).
When the desired joint stiffness is flashing, press
to select it.
"HARD", "MED" or "SOFT" is selected, depending on the
display. The selected joint stiffness stops flashing.
Press during 3s to validate the selected stiffness. The selected joint stiffness is validated. "--" is displayed.
The "Torque" LED lights OFF.
Ready to tighten with the selected joint stiffness: hard,
medium or soft.

2.4 - Access Code Activation
The Access Code can be activated in the fourth menu item::
2.5 - Unit Selection
The selected unit for the torque value display can be changed in the fifth menu item.
Action Display / Result
4th menu item - Access Code Activation:
"---0" is displayed. The "Access Code" LED lights ON.
Press to enter Access Code Activation mode. "---0" is flashing.
Press or to define an Access Code between "-
--0" and "-999".
The displayed number increases or decreases between "---
0" and "-999" flashes.
Press to validate. The Access Code is set to the displayed number "-XXX",
which stops flashing. If the Access Code is set to "0", it
means that the Access Code is inactivated.
Press during 3s to validate the chosen Access
Code.
The "Access Code" LED lights OFF. Next time, the Access
Code will be required to enter any programming mode.
Ready to tighten.
The access code is inactivated from factory, by default. If you should change it, using the Advanced Programming
mode, do memorize or note your code.
Action Display / Result
5th menu item - Unit Selection:
"Nm", "FtLb" or "InLb" is displayed, depending on the
previous choice ("Nm" is selected by default).
The "Torque" LED lights ON.
Press to change the unit for the torque value
display.
The display ("Nm", "FtLb" or "InLb") starts flashing.
Press or to toggle the unit (several times, if
necessary).
"Nm", "FtLb" or "InLb" starts flashing (depending on the
number of pressures).
When the desired unit is flashing, press to select
it.
"Nm", "FtLb" or "InLb" is selected, depending on the
display. The selected unit stops flashing.
Press during 3 s to validate the selected unit. The selected unit is validated. "--" is displayed. The
"Torque" LED lights OFF.
The tool automatically checks the torque values. The tool
modifies those values, if they should be outside of the
boundaries.

2.6 - Calibration
Five torque measures are used to calibrate the tool in the sixth menu item:

"CAL" is displayed. The "C" LED lights ON.

Tighten. The real torque value must be measured by
means of an external measuring system: torque
wrench, CP torque measuring system (Delta,
Sigma)...
The torque value "XX.X" measured by the TFlex tool is
flashing.
Press or to reach the externally measured
torque value.
The torque value "XX.X" equals the externally measured
torque value for C1.
Press to validate. "-C2-" is displayed.
Etc. for the following torque measures. Etc. for the following measures: "C2", "C3", "C4" and,
finally, "-C5-" is displayed.
Tighten. The real torque value is measured by the
external measuring system.
The torque value "XX.X" measured by the TFlex tool is
flashing.
Press or to reach the externally measured
torque value.
The torque value "XX.X" equals the externally measured
torque value for C5.
Press to validate. "END" is displayed. The "C" LED lights OFF.
Press during 3 s to validate the calibration. "--" is displayed.
Ready to tighten.
To save the parameters - Action Display / Result
Press during at least 3 s to save the parameters. The parameters are saved. The tool goes back into
tightening mode. "--" is displayed.
Ready to tighten.
To quit without saving - Action Display / Result
1 From the parameter choice mode, press or
until "ESC" is displayed.
2 Press tovalidate. No parameters are saved. The tool goes back into
tightening mode. "--" is displayed.

CHAPTER 5 - TIGHTENING RESULTS
The tool itself displays information on the tightening results by means of the report LEDs, the buzzer and the display. This allows
for a good control of the real torque.
1 - REPORT LEDS
EAP-TFlex tool - Torque control
The operator is informed at a glance of the tightening
results through report LEDs (green, yellow and red).
LEDs colour Interpretation Action
Green The torque is within the programmed limits. None (correct tightening)
Yel low The minimum torque value has not been exceeded. The screw has
undergone no stress, the tightening operation has been stopped too
soon.
The operator should tighten
again.
The torque is close to the target values. The screw has undergone no
stress.
The operator can unscrew and
then tighten the assembly again.
Red The torque has reached the disassembly limit (assembly damage
limit). The screw has probably undergone permanent strain.

TIGHTENING RESULTS
2 - BUZZER
At the end of each tightening, a sound informs the operator of the tightening result:
• 1 beep -> tightening correct
• 2 beeps -> tightening not correct or faulty operation
3 - DISPLAY
At the end of each tightening, the tightening result and the torque value are displayed, alternatively. In case of faulty operations,
the corresponding error code will also be displayed.

Faulty operations are coded so that the operator can efficiently locate the default. To know the signification of each code, see

CHAPTER 6 - MAINTENANCE
1 - MAINTENANCE LED
The tool is fitted with a maintenance LED that lights as soon as the tool has performed a pro-
grammed number of cycles. This means that it is time to perform maintenance operation. The
number of cycles is set to 500,000.
This alarm does not stop the tool, the operator can go on working, but he/she is to inform the main-
tenance department.
However, you are advised to perform the following operations:

The torque calibration is performed using the tool itself, in the Advanced Programming mode (see “PROGRAMMING”, page 8).

When the maintenance operation is done, the CVIPFlex software, available in option, offers the possibility to reset
the counter. The maintenance LED then goes off.

APPENDIX 1 - ERROR TABLE
Error Description Checking/Actions
Torque low The torque reached is lower than the torque minimum tolerance. The tool
stopping too soon could be due to the operator releasing the throttle too
soon (yellow report) or to the "Max. time" being reached (10s).
Torque high The torque reached is higher than the maximum torque tolerance.
Change the joint stiffness to "HARD" in the Advanced Programming
mode.
Torque > disassembly limit The torque reached is higher than the disassembly limit. The
disassembly limit is positioned by default 20% above the target torque.
That means that the screw has undergone permanent strain and that the
assembly needs to be repaired. Check the assembly (seizing, component
missing / error, screw too long in a blind hole).
Overspeed The tool stopped after detecting a steep rise in the torque that,
considering the speed of the tool, could cause an overtorque beyond the
maximum charge and damage the torque transducer. This can happen
when the speed is much too fast for a hard joint or when the number of
rotations in the approach phase is insufficient. This could be due to a
faulty assembly. Change the joint stiffness to "HARD" in the Advanced
Programming mode. The report LEDs reflect the state of the torque
values.
E1 Overcurrent on the power circuit.
The hardware limit has been
reached. As soon as the fault
appears, the tool stops.
Turn off the tool and turn it on again in order to reset the fault. This
problem can result from programmed power too big for the tool. Try to
reduce the speed to make sure the fault has disappeared. If the fault still
appears when the tool is switched on and without pressing the trigger, the
power stage is faulty => contact our customer service.
E11 Bus voltage fault The bus voltage reflects the mains voltage after rectifying and filtering.
E11 fault means that the mains voltage is not appropriate for the voltage
announced in the tool. Make sure that the tool is adapted for the mains
voltage. Check the mains voltage. Check the mains cord.
E12 Overheating of IGBT The IGBT dissipator temperature is higher than 80°C. Wait for the tool
to cool down. The tool can tighten again when the temperature is lower
than approximately 60°C. Usually this fault is preceded by the E411
fault and only occurs when the IGBT fan is faulty. Check the fan
functioning.
E13 Engine not tuned This error appears after changing the DSP board and after initialising the
EEPROM to download the tool data. The tool does not start, the linearity
table and the engine offsets are not registered in the EEPROM. Tune the
engine using the supervisor mode of the CVIPFlex software. This task
can only be performed by those who have attended the maintenance
training course.
E201 Wrong access code This error appears for a few seconds when an incorrect access code was
entered. The tool returns automatically to control mode. Re-enter the
programming mode and enter the correct access code. Reminder: The
access code is inactivated by default.
E300 Communication error with the
CVIPFlex software - Size of
received data over the maximum
authorized value.
This could be due to a bug or interferences. Switch off the CVIPFlex
software, switch off the tool and re-start.
E301 Communication error with the
CVIPFlex software - No start flag on
the first byte of the frame.
This could be due to a bug or interferences. Switch off the Bluetooth
radio of the CVIPFlex software, switch off the tool and re-start.

E302 No communication with the
Bluetooth module.
The tool does not work. The Bluetooth module is faulty, contact our
customer service.
E404 Exceeding of the current threshold
forced in the power bus. Overcurrent
on the power circuit (software cut).
The power programmed is too large for the tool. For instance you can
reduce the speed. Turn off the tool and turn it on again in order to reset
the fault.
E405 Exceeding of the engine temperature
limit (80°C) - The tool stops
instantaneously.
Wait for the tool to cool down. The tool can tighten again when the
temperature is lower than 55°C. Usually this fault is preceded by the
E411 fault and only occurs when the engine temperature varies from less
than 60°C to more than 80°C in one cycle.
E406 Exceeding of the internal handle
temperature (80°C) - The tool stops
instantaneously.
Wait for the tool cool down. The tool can tighten again when the
temperature is lower than 55°C. Usually this fault is preceded by the
E412 fault. It only occurs when the handle temperature varies from less
than 60°C to more than 80°C in one cycle.
E407 Torque transducer compensation
fault. The measurement is out of
limits.
A torque transducer compensation measurement (offset) is performed at
the beginning of each tightening. This fault means that the compensation
is out of limits by +/- 10% of the nominal load. That shows a torque
transducer zero drift. Make sure the tool is not under stress at the
beginning of the tightening.
E410 ADC reference value measurement
error.
DSP reference voltage is faulty. This leads to errors in the measurement
of engine position, temperature, mains voltage, mains current.
E411 Exceeding of the maximum engine
temperature (60°C); the tool
completes the cycle in progress.
Wait for the tool to cool down. The tool can tighten again when the
temperature is lower than 55°C. This means that the tool tightening rate
is too big or that the ambient temperature is higher than the usual
temperature. Make sure that the tightening rate is adapted to the
maximum tightening rate recommended by the manufacturer. Make sure
that the tightening parameters (final torque, joint stiffness) have been
optimised.
E412 Handle overheating. Never close up ventilation inlet, make sure the fan is in operation (a faint
noise is audible). The tool can tighten again when the temperature is
back to normal.
E416 Engine temperature sensor faulty. The temperature sensor on the hall board registers an abnormal
temperature (T<-10°C; T>110°C). The tool has stopped. Check the hall
board connection / change the hall board / contact our customer service.
E417 DSP board temperature sensor
faulty.
The temperature sensor on the DSP board registers an abnormal
temperature (T<-10°C; T>110°C). The tool has stopped. Change the
DSP board / contact our customer service.
E418 No communication with the torque
transducer.
This error appears when the communication between the torque
transducer and the DSP is interrupted for any reason. It may be a flat
cable fault, a disconnection of the flat cable or a torque transducer
electronic fault.
>E500 EEPROM access error. The tool data are no longer available (EEPROM access faulty, data
partially or totally modified or lost). Contact our customer service.
E501 Error of data size sent to the EEPROM
E502 Reading error of CRC on "Identification - Tool - Calibration" parameters
E503 Reading error of CRC on "Code - Station - Sequence - Cycle" parameters
E504 Reading error of CRC on "Maintenance" parameters

E667 Error seeking zero position. This error can only appear after the second phase of the engine tuning.
This can be a problem with the magnet in the engine shaft extension, or a
problem on the hall board. Contact our customer service.
E668 Error seeking offset evolution
according to speed.
This error can only appear at the end of the third phase of the engine
tuning. This can be a problem with the magnet in the engine shaft
extension, or a problem on the hall board. Contact our customer service.
