1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1.1 GENERAL PRINCIPLE
AQUILA is a precision measuring instrument. It has been designed and manufactured with
great care. It was developed to fulfil the European Directive EN 14154 (MID approval), the OIML
R49 and ISO 4064 standards, as well as the food grade requirements (ACS). It is a measuring
device approved for invoicing. It must be handled with care.
AQUILA is a single-jet meter. It is made up of a cylindrical body with two nozzles. These nozzles
have thread ends. While unpacking the meter, check the indications on the register to make sure
it is the required product.

1.2 MEASURING PRINCIPLE
Aquila meter uses single-jet meter
technology. Water enters through the
inlet nozzle, drives the turbine at a
speed proportional to flowrate and exits
through the outlet nozzle.
Water enters the measurement chamber
at a tangent through a converging port
(1). The port increases the kinetic energy
of the stream (2) while significantly
limiting head losses. Water enters the
chamber as a converging stream.
The stream applies hydrodynamic
thrust against the turbine blades and
breaks up after impact. The main
stream (3) continues straight on to the
outlet after transferring energy to the
turbine in the "turbine" area of the
meter.
The stream of water and the rotation of the turbine produce the following disturbances that
are dependent on flow velocity and blade position.
A centrifuge effect (4) is caused by ejection of water by the blades towards the periphery of the
chamber.

1.3.1 CALIBRATION CURVE
The meter has been manufactured with care in order to ensure high precision and
reduced standard deviation. The metrology is better than class R=200 (see curves § 5).

1.4 TECHNICAL FEATURES
1.4.1 FROST PROTECTION
When the meter is drained (when the valve before the meter is closed and a drain is opened
after the meter) the measuring chamber is emptied of water, and frost has no impact on the
future characteristics of the meter.
When the meter is not drained, there is a risk of the pressure plate breaking.
1.4.2 FILTRATION
AQUILA meter comes standard with a filter housed in the upstream pipe. A regular maintenance of
the filter will ensure efficient metrology and an optimized lifetime of the measuring mecanism.
1.4.3 NOISE LEVEL
Due to its design and construction, AQUILA is virtually noiseless.

1.4.4 PRESSURE RESISTANCE
Static pressure
AQUILA is designed to operate at a maximum nominal pressure of 16 bars. Its test pressure is 32
bars (as per EN 14154/ISO 4064/OIML R49).
Water hammer effect
AQUILA can withstand 100,000 rapid rises in pressure from 0 to 30 bars in 0.2 second.
Any work or disruption in the supply system must not lead to water hammer effects. While working
on the pipes, carefully bleed the pipes in order to prevent the formation of air bubbles, which could
damage the meter when the water is turned back on.
1.4.5 ACCIDENTAL FLOWRATE
Thanks to its design, AQUILA can withstand one hour at a flowrate triple as high as the maximum
flowrate (Q4).
1.4.6 SAND SIDE-EFFECT
The meter doesn’t undergo significant degradation of its metrological curve after functioning on a
test bench with the following protocol:
•Duration: 21 days
•Sand rate: 0.1 g/litre
•Flowrate: 45 % of the time at Q3, 45 % of the time at Q3/10, 10 % of the time stopped
1.4.7 NON-RETURN VALVE
AQUILA may be equipped with a non-return valve.
1.4.8 REGISTER
All AQUILA meters are fitted as standard with
a plastic register.
The register is compatible with all modular devices
from the “Ti” modularity.
1.4.9 READABILITY
The register withstands prolonged immersion of over 6 months, at a water depth of 1 meter.
1.4.10 INVIOLABILITY
If fraud is attempted by opening the sealed part of a meter, the locking ring will retain a visible trace
of the fraud attempt.
The meter retains a visible trace of fraud attempt on the clamp, by deformation of the plastic
register and the fall of the "G-clamp tamper orange pin".

1.5 DIMENSIONS
AQUILA DN15 meters are available with 2 nominal flow rates: 15/110 and 15/115.
1.6 MODULAR CONCEPT /COMMUNICATION
AQUILA is a meter of the Diehl Metering modular range. This means that it can be equipped with
additional features at any time:
•Pulse emitter IZAR PULSE i
•Radio IZAR RC i Waterbox R4
•Radio IZAR RC i R4 & G4
•Electronic register with reset IZAR DOSING
Meters are pre-equipped to be fitted (even on site) with
accessories of the same modularity, as indicated on the
register: “Ti”.

2 INSTALLATION
2.1 INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
The meter is to be installed in accordance with the prEN ISO 4064-5:2012 standard.
2.1.1 CLEANING THE PIPE
The AQUILA meter must be installed on a pipe that is clean on the inside and free of solid
impurities. If in doubt, clean out the piping by flushing it under high pressure, taking care to replace
the meter with a bypass sleeve. In case of doubt, install a filter on the pipe before the meter.
2.1.2 PIPE ALIGNEMENT
The pipes must be perfectly aligned in order to minimise the mechanical stresses on the meter’s
body. While fixing the meter on the inlet side, use a pierced nut that will allow the meter sealing.
2.2 INSTALLATION PRINCIPLE

AQUILA is sensitive to the position of installation.
It has to be installed in horizontal position, upper face of the register above.
However, when installed against a wall, it is possible
to tilt the counter, slightly or completely. In this case,
the metrology of the meter becomes class R = 40 .
Check the direction of the water flow, to ensure that it matches the directions of the arrows located
on the meter’s body.

2.2.2 PLACE OF INSTALLATION
The metered water flow must not be in gas phase. Therefore, AQUILA must be placed at a low
point of a pipe in order to prevent the formation of air pockets. The technology used for metering
water does not require the presence of a straight length, either before or after the meter.

2.2.3 INSTALLATION
The body of the meter incorporates two nozzles, each with a standard connection thread. The
gaskets that form the seal between the meter and the connectors are not included.
Do not exceed the maximum tightening torque of 30 Nm.
2.2.4 LIABILITY
If the installation is not carried out in accordance with good workmanship practices, and if the
above mentioned procedures are not followed, the warranty shall be null and void.
If there are additives or additional substances in the water or any process of the
installation, the installer orthe operator has to make sure that the characteristics of
the drinking water and the materials of the installation, meter included, are not altered.
3 PRECAUTIONS OF USE

Do not stack the pallets and do not place loads heavier than 80 kg on the meters
3.2 CLEANING
The body of the meter is made of composite; it can safely be cleaned with slightly acidic water
(vinegar, de-scaling agent) in order to remove any scale deposit.
The register is made of plastic. The use of solvents is prohibited for its care and maintenance.
Only use soapy water. Solvent vapours may diminish the mechanical resistance of the main parts
made of plastic.
The water must be clear and free of suspended solid particles (sand etc.) above 0.1 mm (max.
concentration 0.1 gram/litre); clean the filter periodically to prevent clogging.
3.3 TEMPERATURES
The temperature of the water in the meter must range from +1°C to +50°C (cold water).

3.4 EXTERNAL PRESSURE
Stepping
AQUILA must not be stepped upon. However, with its cover closed, it can withstand the load of a
man weighting 80 kg.
Falls
AQUILA is designed to withstand falls from 1 m onto a hard floor. If the meter does fall or
shows traces of impacts, it should be tested before it is installed.
4 REGULATIONS
AQUILA meter complies with the European Directives as indicated on the EU Declaration of
conformity delivered with the product and available at Diehl Metering. It also meets the food grade
requirements relating to materials in contact with water (ACS).

1 DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT
1.1 PRINCIPE GENERAL
AQUILA est un instrument de mesure de précision. Il a fait l'objet de tous nos soins lors de sa
fabrication. Pour ses qualités, il a été approuvé suivant les normes EN 14154 (MID), OIML R49 et
ISO 4064. Il dispose également des attestations de conformité sanitaire (ACS). C’est un appareil
de mesure agréé pour la facturation qui doit être manipulé avec soin.
Le compteur AQUILA est un compteur à jet unique de petit calibre. Il se compose d'un corps
cylindrique équipé de deux tubulures. Ces tubulures sont munies de filetage. Lors du
déballage, vérifier que les indications portées sur le totalisateur correspondent au produit désiré.
1.2 PRINCIPE DE MESURE
L'eau pénètre tangentiellement dans la chambre de
mesure à travers un filtre et un ajutage convergent (1).
Cet ajutage permet d'augmenter l'énergie cinétique du
flux (2) tout en limitant sensiblement la perte de charge.
L'eau entre donc sous la forme d'un jet cohérent.
Le flux de l'eau applique sur une pale une
poussée hydrodynamique et se décompose sous
l'impact. Le flux principal (3) poursuit son cheminement
vers la sortie en cédant de l'énergie à la turbine formant la
"zone turbine" du compteur.
Le passage de l'eau ainsi que la rotation de la turbine
génèrent différentes perturbations suivant la vitesse et la
position des pales.

Un effet centrifuge (4) résulte de l'éjection de l'eau par les pales vers la paroi du compteur.

1.3 CARACTERISTIQUES METROLOGIQUES
1.3.1 COURBE D’ETALONNAGE
Le soin apporté lors de la production permet de garantir un niveau de précision élevé et un écart
type réduit, conférant ainsi une métrologie largement supérieure à la classe R=200.

1.4 CARACTERISTIQUES TECHNIQUES
1.4.1 MISE HORS GEL
Lorsque le compteur est purgé (fermeture de la vanne amont et ouverture d’une purge à l'aval), la
chambre de mesure est vide d'eau et le gel n'a aucune incidence sur les caractéristiques futures
du compteur. Lorsque le compteur n'est pas purgé, il y a risque de rupture du plateau pression.
1.4.2 FILTRATION
Le compteur AQUILA est livré avec un filtre logé dans la tubulure amont. Veiller à
l’entretien régulier du filtre pour une métrologie performante et une longévité optimale du
mécanisme de mesure.
1.4.3 NIVEAU DE BRUIT
De par sa construction, AQUILA est pratiquement inaudible.

1.4.4 TENUE A LA PRESSION
Pression statique
AQUILA est prévu pour fonctionner sous une pression nominale maximale de 16 bars. La
pression d'épreuve est portée à 32 bars (suivant EN 14154/ISO 4064/OIML R49).
Coup de bélier
AQUILA résiste à 100 000 montées en pression rapide de 0 à 30 bars en 0,2 seconde.
Les manipulations et perturbations dans le réseau ne doivent pas provoquer de coup de bélier.
Lors de travaux sur les canalisations, purger soigneusement afin d'interdire la formation de bulles
d'air dont le passage risque d'endommager le compteur lors de la remise en eau.
1.4.5 TENUE AU SUR-DEBIT
De par sa conception, AQUILA est prévu pour résister une heure au triple du débit maximal (Q4).
1.4.6 ENSABLAGE
Le compteur ne subit pas de dégradation notable de sa signature métrologique après
fonctionnement sur banc d’ensablage, suivant le protocole suivant :
•Durée : 21 jours
•Taux de sable : 0.1 g/l
•Débit : 45 % du temps à Q3, 45 % du temps à Q3/10, 10 % du temps à l’arrêt
1.4.7 CLAPET ANTI-RETOUR
Le compteur AQUILA peut recevoir dans sa tubulure de sortie un clapet anti-retour incorporable NF.
1.4.8 TOTALISATEUR
Les AQUILA sont équipés en standard d’un
totalisateur plastique. Ce totalisateur est
compatible avec tous les éléments de
la modularité inductive « Ti ».

1.4.9 LISIBILITE
Le totalisateur supporte une immersion prolongée de plus de 6 mois sous 1 mètre d'eau.
1.4.10 INVIOLABILITE
En cas de tentative de fraude par ouverture de la partie scellée d'un compteur, la bague de
fermeture garde une trace visible de la tentative de la fraude.
En cas de tentative de fraude au serre-joint, le témoin de fraude (de couleur orange)
intégré dans le totalisateur disparaît, mettant ainsi la fraude (ou la tentative de fraude) en
évidence.

2 INSTALLATION
2.1 PRECAUTIONS DE POSE
La pose est à réaliser suivant la norme prEN ISO 4064-5:2012.
2.1.1 NETTOYAGE DE LA CANALISATION
Il est nécessaire d'installer le compteur AQUILA sur une canalisation intérieurement propre et
exempte d'impuretés. Dans le doute, il faut procéder à un nettoyage de la tuyauterie par une
chasse d'eau à fort débit en ayant pris soin de mettre une manchette (by-pass) à la place du
compteur.

2.1.2 ALIGNEMENT DES CANALISATIONS
Afin de réduire au maximum les contraintes mécaniques sur le corps du compteur, les
canalisations doivent être parfaitement alignées. Pour la fixation du compteur coté entrée, utiliser
un écrou percé permettant le plombage du compteur.

2.2 PRINCIPE D’INSTALLATION
2.2.1 POSITION D'INSTALLATION
Le compteur AQUILA est sensible à la position de montage. Pour respecter ses qualités
métrologiques, installer de préférence le compteur en position horizontale (face supérieure du
totalisateur dirigée vers le haut et horizontale).
Vérifier que le sens d'écoulement de l'eau corresponde au sens des flèches situées sur le corps du
compteur.

Cependant, en cas d’installation contre un mur, il est
possible d’incliner le compteur, soit légèrement,
soit complètement. Dans ce cas, la métrologie du
compteur devient classe R = 40.

2.2.2 LIEU DE POSE
L'eau mesurée doit être sans phase gazeuse. Il faut donc placer AQUILA en un point bas d'une
canalisation pour interdire la formation de poches d'air. La technologie employée pour la mesure
du volume d'eau n'impose pas de longueur droite en amont ou en aval du compteur.

2.2.3 POSE
Le corps du compteur est muni de deux tubulures ayant chacune un filetage de raccordement
normalisé. Les joints assurant l'étanchéité entre le compteur et les raccords ne sont pas
fournis. Ne pas dépasser le couple de serrage maximal de 30 Nm.
2.2.4 RESPONSABILITE
Si l'installation n'est pas réalisée dans les "Règles de l'art" et si les opérations précédemment
décrites ne sont pas respectées, la clause de garantie ne pourra s'appliquer.
Dans le cas d'ajout de substances dans l'eau ou de traitement de l'installation, l'installateur
ou l'exploitant doit s'assurer que les caractéristiques de l'eau potable et des matériaux de
l'installation,dont le compteur,ne sont pas altérées.
3 PRECAUTIONS D’USAGE
3.1 STOCKAGE
Ne pas stocker les compteurs plus de 3 mois.
Ne pas gerber les palettes et ne pas entreposer sur le compteur des charges supérieures à 80 kg.
3.2 ENTRETIEN
Le corps du compteur est réalisé en matériaux composite; il peut être nettoyé sans danger avec
de l'eau légèrement acide (vinaigre, agent détartrant) afin d'éliminer toute trace de calcaire.
Le totalisateur est en plastique. Utiliser exclusivement de l'eau savonneuse. Les vapeurs de
solvant peuvent dégrader la tenue mécanique des pièces de résistance en plastique et la lisibilité.
L'eau doit être limpide et exempte de particules solides en suspension (sable...) supérieures à 0,1
mm (concentration maximale: 0,1 gramme/litre); procéder au nettoyage périodique du filtre
afin d'empêcher tout colmatage.
3.3 TEMPERATURES
La température de l'eau dans le compteur doit être comprise entre +1°C et +50°C (eau froide).
3.4 PRESSION EXTERIEURE
Marchepied
AQUILA ne doit pas servir de marchepied.
Néanmoins, muni du couvercle en position fermée, il résiste au poids d'un homme de 80 kg.
Chute
AQUILA est étudié pour résister à une chute de 1 m sur un sol dur. En cas de chute, ou si le
compteur porte des traces d'impacts, nous recommandons de le tester avant installation.

4 REGLEMENTATION
Le compteur AQUILA est conforme aux Directives Européennes selon la Déclaration UE de
conformité livrée avec le produit et disponible auprès de Diehl Metering. Il répond également aux
exigences d’alimentarité (ACS).
