WARNINGS
The owner must inform and show the user how to handle the
patient lift detailing the precautions for use and the risks related
to inappropriate use.
Any areas where there is a risk of entrapment should be explained
in detail. The owner should ensure the user perfectly understood
the safety instructions.
When assembling and using the device, it is recommended to
keep hands away from areas where there is a risk of entrapment.
When the patient lift is exposed to heat source (sunlight through
a window or radiator) for a long time, ensure there is no burn risk
before using the patient lift.
The device should be used in an unobstructed area so that
manoeuvres are not disturbed.
Although slings provided by Drive Devilbiss Healthcare are
flame retardant, do not use the device in the vicinity of flames
and do not smoke near the device.
Do not use or store the patient lift in a place that is too damp or
close to splashing water (rain, shower, etc.).
Under certain circumstances the operation of the patient lift can
be aected by radio and electromagnetic waves (proximity of a
radiotelephone antenna, etc.).
In case of malfunction, do not use the patient lift.
The patient lift operation can interfere with sensitive electronic
devices. In this case, do not use the patient lift.
Because of the component weight and dimensions, there are
risks when dismantling and reassembling. Thus, it is highly
recommended to be assisted and to beware of areas where this
is risk of entrapment.
Any serious incident that has occurred in relation to the device
should be reported to the manufacturer and the competent
authority of the Member State in which the user and/or patient
is established.

Certification
The company Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare France ensures
quality of the Samsoft 175 through its compliance with the
requirements of ISO standard 13845:2016 for Medical Devices
- Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Regulatory
Purposes.
Moreover, to ensure safety and performance, the Samsoft 175
meets the safety and performance requirements set out in the
Regulation (EU) 2017/745.
A Declaration of Conformity can be issued on request.
Compliance with standards:
The Samsoft 175 is certified according to:
- ISO 10535:2006 or NF EN ISO 10535:2007 standard for patient
lifts designed to transfer disabled people
- the requirements and test methods and associated standards.
II  INTENDED USE
 This device is intended to transfer mobility-impaired patients;
it can be used in combination with a wheelchair, a shower seat,
a bed, or a toilet seat.
Not suitable for children under 12, for patients with
mental disorders, and for patients whose morphology is
incompatible with this kind of transfer.

III-2) UNBOXING
Make sure all the device elements have not been damaged
during transport. Make sure the accessories are present: the
lifting assembly (box with battery pack, actuator, handset), battery
charger, a user guide, and possibly a sling if it was ordered.
Note: Our device is mounted and tested in our manufacturing
site, but its packaging requires to be folded.
III-3) ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: before using the device, make sure all the
shafts, screws, and pins used during the installation are
perfectly engaged in their respective supports, and they
are correctly locked.
The Samsoft 175 is operational only if you use the sling
compatible with this device and if you respect the maximum
permissible load of 175 kg.
 Remove the structure from the box (possibly by cutting the
box corners), lay the structure on a flat floor, and then lock the
wheel brakes.
 In the lower part of the mast, remove the pin.

 Remove the safety shaft from the first hole of the mast.

 Straighten up the mast.
 Reposition the safety shaft in the second hole of the mast,
and then put the pin back.
 On the handset, press the lifting key to unfold the boom.
The ball joint linking the hanger bar to the mast automatically
disengages.
To avoid any risk of tearing, make sure the hanger bar
and particularly its hooks are clear of the cables and
mast in the vicinity during this unfolding step of the
boom.
 Tighten the adjusting screw (black wing screw).

III-4) FOLDING
The device must be folded to be transported.
The folding method is similar to the assembly method (unfolding),
but must be carried out in reverse order to the steps illustrated
in the previous chapter:
 Loosen the adjusting screw.
 Press the lowering key on the handset to fold the boom until
the hanger bar ball joint is facing the mast clip.
 Snap the ball joint into the mast.
 Remove the pin and the mast safety shaft.
 Remove the mast safety shaft.
 Lower the mast/boom/hanger bar assembly onto the hoist
legs.
CAUTION: entrapment hazard
 Reposition the mast safety shaft in the first hole and put its
pin back.
The device can be vertically transported or stored.
III-5) SEPARATING THE BASE FROM THE
REST OF THE PATIENT LIFT
To easily carry the Samsoft 175, you can disassemble it into 2 parts by
unscrewing the knob completely and by removing the safety shaft.

CAUTION: Partially unscrew the adjusting screw
before separating the mast from the wheel base. after
reassembling, check all the fastening elements and the
safety pin are correctly installed. firmly tighten the knob.
Refer to the specifications for the weight of the two separate
elements.

IV-1) ELECTRIC SYSTEM OPERATION:

IV-1.2) HANDSET
Operating indicator light:
Under normal operating conditions, the indicator light turns
yellow when and while any function is pressed (it briefly
turns red when the key is released, and then goes o).
In the event of a relay fault in the power supply, the light
turns solid red.

Emergency stop push-button
In case of emergency, the central supply can be stopped by
pressing the emergency stop button. All the functions of the
electric system are then deactivated.
The emergency stop button is reset by turning
the button slightly clockwise until it pops out.
The emergency stop button must always be
accessible during operation so that it can be
activated quickly in case of an emergency.
Control panel
The control panel features:
- a battery charge status indicator
- an electric emergency lowering button
- a maintenance indicator
Battery

The battery charge status displays after
pressing one of the functions of the
handset for more than 2 seconds. When
releasing the key, the indicator remains on
for 10 seconds.
Battery level indicators:
Green: the batteries are fully charged.
Green and yellow: the batteries are 75%
charged.
Yellow: the batteries are 50% charged.
Yellow and red: batteries almost totally
depleted.
Charge them.
Red: empty batteries.
They must be charged immediately or their
service life will be shortened.
Note: If several repeated beeps are heard
when the patient lift is rising, this is a
warning indicating the batteries are low.

IV-1.4) CHARGER AND CHARGING
The charger allows the batteries to be recharged when they are
depleted (see previous chapter on the battery charge status) by
two methods:
Direct charge: by connecting the charger directly to the patient
lift without removing the battery pack.
Please note that it is not possible to operate the actuators with
the remote control during direct charging.
Indirect charge: by removing the battery pack from the patient
lift to connect it to the charger (with this method, you do not have
to move the patient lift closer to a mains socket).

Indirect charge:
Press the battery pack release button
Separate the battery pack from the control box by pulling
upwards
Connect the charger plug to the battery pack
The charger is equipped with a battery charge indicator light.
When the charger is connected to the mains and its plug is
connected to the batteries in direct or indirect charge:
 The green light flashes when the batteries are charging.
 When the green light is permanently on, the batteries are
fully charged. Charging is complete: the charger can now
be disconnected from the mains. If charging indirectly, the
battery pack must be disconnected from the charger and then
reassembled on the patient lift to be ready for use again.
Note: When the charger plug is not connected to the batteries:
 The green light is permanently on if the charger is connected
to the mains.
 The green light is o if the charger is not connected to the mains.
When not in use, the battery charger can be stored on the
dedicated stand to this purpose attached to the patient lift mast.
The batteries must be charged every night.
This operation should be performed in a well-ventilated room.
Check the condition of the charger cable before plugging it in.

IV-1.5) BATTERY PACK
The 2 batteries included in the battery pack do not require any
special maintenance. Though, they must be charged regularly
to preserve their service life (minimum charge every 3 months).
With a second battery pack (available as an option on request),
the device can work 24 hours a day.
IV-2) MANUAL FUNCTIONS:
IV-2.1) MANUAL EMERGENCY LOWERING OF
THE LIFT ACTUATOR
The lift actuator has a manual emergency lowering system that
allows the boom to be lowered manually in the event of a power
failure.
This system consists of a red ring at the end of the cylinder rod
that must be lowered to disengage and turned to lower the
boom.
Caution: Remember to return the ring to the up (engaged)
position after the manual emergency lowering is completed.
IV-2.2) MANUAL OPERATION OF THE HOIST LEGS
Press the spacing pedal to open or close the Samsoft 175
base.
As standard, the patient lift is equipped with an automatic locking
system for the hoist legs in the closed position (toggle lock).
If required, an additional system for locking the hoist legs in
the open position can be integrated as an option (see relevant
chapter).
IV-2.3) HANGER BAR HOOKS
This patient lift is equipped with a hanger bar with non-return
hooks.
Before transferring the patient, check each loop of the sling is
inside the hooks.
IV-3) CONDITIONS FOR USE
WARNING: The Samsoft 175 must only be used indoors on a
level, stable and adherent floor; it must be handled by competent
personnel trained in the use of this type of equipment.
When all the connections are made:
● Make sure the actuator(s) respond correctly to the commands
from the remote control.
● Make sure the batteries are charged enough (see colour code,
chap. IV. 1-c).
If these conditions are met, the device is ready for use.
CAUTION: The actuators should only be used
intermittently: 2 minutes on, and then 18 minutes o.
Do not exceed 2 minutes continuous operation.
Any usage frequency exceeding the above cycle may damage
the lift assembly (actuator/control box). This damage is excluded
from the warranty.

V  TRANSFERRING THE PATIENT
Before positioning and transferring the patient, make sure:
 The patient’s weight is compatible with the maximum
permissible load of the patient lift - 175 kg max.
 The batteries are charged and the patient lift is fully operational.
 The floor is flat and stable.
 The patient lift brakes are functional.
 The sling is compatible with the Samsoft 175 (sling from Drive
Devilbiss Healthcare Ltd).
- The sling attachments and the patient support elements are in
perfect condition.
 Regular maintenance is carried out at least once a year (see
maintenance manual included in this user guide).
 If the patient is agitated, an accompanying person should
secure the patient’s movement.
Once these checks have been made, you can transfer the
patient.
CAUTION: Move the patient lift base as far away as
possible before lifting or moving the patient.
Do not engage the brakes.
Do not continue to lift or lower the patient if the 4 castors
are not on the floor. Lifting should be done very gradually,
checking the patient is well positioned in the sling and
there is no risk of tipping due to excessive overhang.
IV-1) TRANSFERRING THE PATIENT FROM
A BED TO AN ARMCHAIR
 Position the patient on their side.
 Place the sling under the patient.
 Check the back part of the sling is correctly positioned (from
shoulders to tail bone).
 Lay the patient on their back.
 Pass each leg support under each thigh.
 Position the patient lift at the patient’s level.
 Hang each loop of the sling to the hanger bar hooks.
 The patient can now be transferred from a bed to an armchair.
IV-2) TRANSFERRING THE PATIENT FROM
AN ARMCHAIR TO A BED
 Lean the patient forward while holding him/her.
 Slide the sling behind the patient’s back up to the tail bone.
 Pass each leg support under each thigh.
 Position the patient lift at the patient’s level.
 Hang each loop of the sling to the hanger bar hooks.
 The patient can now be transferred from an armchair to a bed.
Particular points:
 When positioning the sling, make sure it does not wrinkle at
the leg level to prevent injury to the patient.
 Do not apply the brakes when lifting so that the patient lift can
be positioned correctly in relation to the patient.
CAUTION
In case of power supply problem, you can manually
lower or lift the boom by pressing and turning the red
ring at the end of the cylinder rod.
IV-3) TRANSFERRING A PATIENT LYING
ON THE FLOOR
The patient’s weight must not exceed 175kg and the patient
lift should be placed so that the patient’s head and chest are
located inside the hoist legs. Perform the lift gradually, ensuring
that the patient remains well positioned inside the sling.
IV-4) MOVING
Although we do not recommend moving the patient whilst in
the patient lift, it is possible to use the patient lift to make a very
short trip with the patient suspended (e.g. from bed to shower).
Use the handles to move and guide the patient lift. Another
person should secure the patient.
 Do not push or pull the slings or the hanger bar to
move the patient lift.
 Do not move a patient if agitated.
VI  OPTION: 2-POINT HANGER
BAR
Available as an accessory or as a replacement option for the
standard 4-point hanger bar.
VII  SLING RANGE FOR THE
Samsoft 175
A full range of slings are available to use with the Samsoft
hoist. Please contact your local distributor for full details.
Only use the slings provided by Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd.
Do not exceed the maximum load of the patient lift.
VII-1) CONTROLS
(To be performed by a competent person)
Before each use, check the condition of the slings: no loose
seams, the fabric and slings must not be frayed, no tears or
traces of wear (transparent fabric weave).
VII-2) CLEANING
(Whenever necessary; to be performed by a competent person)
 Please refer to the cleaning instructions included with the
sling.

VIII  MAINTENANCE OF THE

Unplug the power cable and remove the battery pack before
servicing.
VIII-1) GENERAL CLEANING
Monthly or as required; to be carried out by competent personnel.
 Wipe down with a clean cloth moistened with a mild detergent
and dilute with warm water.
 Wipe surfaces with cold, clean water and a clean cloth, and allow
to fully dry before use.
 Do not use too aggressive detergents and do not clean under
running water.
VIII-2) DECONTAMINATION
(Whenever necessary; to be performed by a competent person).
 Mop up any fluid with paper towels.
 Wipe surfaces using cold clean water.
 Wipe down with a 0.1% Chlorine solution (1,000ppm) in cold
water.
 Wipe surfaces with cold clean water and a clean cloth and allow
to fully dry before use.
In cases of blood spills or other bodily fluids it is recommended that
a 1% Chlorine solution (10,000ppm) is used instead.
Suitable protective clothing must be worn when handling chlorine
solutions.
VIII-3) DAILY MAINTENANCE
Charge the battery pack every night.
VIII-4) ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
(Monthly or as required; to be carried out by a competent person).
Routine maintenance consists of checking the patient lift functionality:
 With the patient lift on level ground, check the 4 castors are
touching the floor.
 When the brakes are engaged, it must not be possible to move
the patient lift (level and stable floor).
 Check the handles on the mast to ensure the boom and hoist
legs move smoothly and without noise.
 Handle the handles on the mast and check there is no play
between the boom and the mast and between the mast and the
hoist legs.
 Check the plastic covers and protective housings are not broken
and there are no cracks or missing parts.
 Check the condition of the connecting cables: power cable,
handset, and actuator. If a cable shows the slightest trace of
burning, wear, cut or if the wires are visible, quarantine the patient
lift immediately and have the cables replaced by the technical
service.
 The slings must be checked at least once a month, or more
regularly if used intensively, to ensure the seams are not undone,
the weft of the upholstery and slings is not visible and there are
no torn parts.
Never use a defective sling.
Only authorised service personnel or Drive DeVilbiss Sidhil
Service Technicians should carry out repairs or service
activities.
Failure to do so may result in the manufacturer’s warranty
becoming void.
Worn or malfunctioning parts must be replaced with original
parts manufactured by Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd.
Complete a load test before putting patient lift back into service.
VIII-5) PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Annually or as required; to be carried out by an authorised person
or Drive Devilbiss Sidhil Service Technicians according with
paragraphs 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3 below.
 It is a requirement to carry out preventative maintenance
annually.
 Battery pack to be changed approximately every 18 months,
depending on use.
 Only authorised service personnel or Drive Devilbiss Sidhil
Service Technicians should carry out annual preventative
maintenance. No special tools are required to carry out annual
maintenance, but tools used must be adequate and fit for purpose.
All maintenance activties must be carried out according to this
manual and LOLER requirements.
VIII-5.1) MECHANICAL CONTROL
 Remove the cover from the hanger bar and observe the axle and
hanger bar assembly for wear:
Compliant assembly: the flange of the axle does not touch the
crossbar of the hanger bar.
Axle flange
Hanger bar socket
Hanger bar crossbar
Non compliant assembly: the flange of the axle touches the
crossbar of the hanger bar.

Caution: the axle and the hanger bar must be replaced
immediately. The patient lift must not be used until all
worn parts have been replaced and a verification has been
carried out before putting it back into service.
 If the assembly is compliant, disassemble the axle from the
hanger bar and clean any grease, debris or dust from the axle and
hanger bar.
 Inspect the axle, flange, and cross hole for signs of damage,
unacceptable wear or deformation.
A small amount of wear and tear may be seen on the inside of the
flange in contact with the lifting beam socket. This small amount
of wear is acceptable as long as the assembly is compliant (see
above); if in doubt, replace the axle immediately.
 Repeat the inspection on the hanger bar paying particular
attention to the condition of the socket and welds.
 Grease the axle and the socket of the hanger bar, taking care to
grease the flange part and the socket.
Note: Use a suitable metal-to-metal grease or contact Drive
DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd for any request.
 Carefully reassemble the assembly, ensuring everything is
secure and the hanger bar rotates correctly around the axle.
Caution: The axle and hanger bar must be replaced every 5
years or when the above mentioned wear occurs, whichever
comes first.
 Disassembly, cleaning and lubrication of front and rear castors.
 Disassembly, cleaning and lubrication of the mast hinge.
 Check the fastening, wheel play, and eciency of the brakes.
 Check the welds. Visual inspection.
 Check the alignments. Visual inspection.
 Check and lubricate after dismantling the mast and hanger bar
pivots.
 Check and grease the actuator fasteners.
 Re-tighten all parts.
Mechanical parts showing cracks, signs of wear or geometric
defects must be replaced with original components supplied by
Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd.
VIII-5.2) ELECTRICAL INSPECTION
 Check the handset.
 Check the charger.
 Check the remote control box and the actuator.
 Check the lifting/lowering speed.
 Check the emergency stop and lowering.
 Condition of the electric cables (change the cables if in doubt).
Replace the electric cables, and/or the components to which they
are connected, if they show signs of wear, sheathing cuts, plug
degradation or blackening of the plastics and sheathing around the
connection areas. Replace defective components with original ones.
Never disassemble the protective covers of the actuator, battery
pack, handset, control box and battery charger.
VIII-5.3) CHARGING TEST
 Charge the battery pack.
 Check the power and autonomy of the battery pack.
 Test of the patient when fully loaded at 175 Kg and check the cut
threshold (230 Kg ± 10 Kg).
VIII-5.4) MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Every maintenance operation or intervention must be recorded in the
maintenance manual attached to these instructions.
VIII-5.5) LIST OF SPARE PARTS
A list of spare parts is available on request.
IX  SHIPPING, STORAGE, AND
DISPOSAL
 The patient lift must be returned or transported in its original
packaging.
 Before storing the patient lift, clean it thoroughly and check its
operation; store it in a dry room away from dust and moisture. The
batteries must be fully charged every 3 months.
 When commissioning after storage, charge the battery pack, and
check the operation before further use.

 Defective parts, packaging, and battery packs must be disposed
of at authorised waste treatment centres.
 The device in question must not be disposed of with household
waste, and must be handed in to an appropriate waste collection
point or a distributor. The patient lift is subject to Directive 2002/96/
EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and
marketed after 13 August 2015.
 By following these guidelines, you are doing your bit for the
environment by helping to preserve natural resources and protect
human health.

X  WARRANTY CONDITIONS AND
LIABILITY
The Samsoft 175 is guaranteed for 5 years on structure, actuator,
and control box, in normal use according to the instructions
given in this manual. Negligence, handling errors or accidents
are excluded from the warranty. The handset and battery are
guaranteed for 24 months.
 Any modification or addition of accessories without written
consent from Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd, will de facto
exclude the patient lift from the warranty and from Drive DeVilbiss
Healthcare UK’s liability. In particular, we cannot be held liable
for the use of slings not marketed by Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare
Ltd for this patient lift.
 The periodic checks and inspections mentioned in the
previous paragraph must be carried out by an authorised person
and recorded in the maintenance manual.
Out of the warranty period, we cannot be held responsible if
these checks and inspections are not carried out. Only spare
parts and components supplied by Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare
Ltd can be used for repairs.
 Any serious incident occurring in connection with this patient
lift must be notified to the manufacturer and to the competent
authority of the Member State in which the user and/or patient
is established.

XII  MAINTENANCE BOOK

technician every time the patient lift is serviced.
In case of incident, the liability can only be determined if all the
sheets of this book are completed.
